Windows Intune Software Assurance

One of the major selling points of Windows Intune is the Software Assurance rights. However, how does it work exactly? Do Wintune admins have a link to download Windows 7 Enterprise and do they have access to the corresponding serial number?
As a Microsoft authorized reseller, I don't see any place to download the software, but our subscription is probably different than the end-users subscriptions because our's are just a Trial subscription with an extra long expiry term.
Thanks for your help

  • How to activate Windows To Go from Intune Software Assurance

We recently decided on using Windows Intune with Software Assurance to create Windows To Go drives for some of our employees as they would like to work from home on computers running Windows XP and Windows Vista.
We are using the PowerShell option and the Install.WIM file from the Enterprise ISO available on the Windows Intune Software Assurance download page.
We are running into a problem when activating Windows To Go. We receive an error "DNS name does not exist" when trying to activate. We are building this off of an installation of Windows 8 Enterprise that was received thru Windows Intune Software
Assurance. Additionally, we are using the Dism.exe for imaging the drives.
    What are we doing wrong?
It's important that I note, the machine we are building the Windows To Go images from does not have an internet connection and therefore has not been activated. I was thinking this may be related to our problem but I figured I would as to see if there
may be some other condition we are missing.
Furthermore, I should mention, we are not taking a snapshot of the machine to create a custom WIM file. We are using the raw WIM from the Enterprise ISO. Could this be the cause as well?
I also thought that perhaps we needed to activate the machine we are building from first, then create a custom WIM image of that activated machine and use an activated WIM image file for the Dism process, but then I also considered that if I do that, I have
to run Sysprep which would reset activation, correct?
The Windows To Go image already has Windows Intune installed prior to attempts for activation so I know it's not that.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I know this is very old but I’m trying to clean up old posts. Did you ever solve this? If so it would be good if you could post the solution to assist others. If not, at this
stage, as nobody has answered, I would recommend that you call Intune support.

  • Windows Intunes software inventory with product keys or without product keys

Its sounds good to manage and work faster but it would also save more time If Windows intune can also retrieve the product key information from all the clients machines. So my question is can windows intune retrieve the product keys of any programs installed.
    or only few if any??

There's no standard way to store product keys though so there's no way for a management tool like Intune to know how to retrieve them. If you can first get all software vendors to store their product keys, in a readable format, in a common way and place,
then this would be easy. Until then though, Intune is not magic and can not figure out where the thousands of software vendors are storing their keys let alone be able to unencrypt/unencode them if they are stored using some secure format.

  • How does the "Windows 10 is free for its 1st year" offering affect licensing for enterprise customers paying Software Assurance?

At the keynote on 21 January 2015, there was an announcement that Windows 10 was going to be a free upgrade for the first year of its release.
As an enterprise customer,  I'd like to know about the impact of this announcement on Software Assurance. How is the cost of Windows changing for the enterprise?

You are entitled to your opinion, that doesn't make it correct.

  • Boot Camp Assistant fails on Windows 7 Enterprise software assurance DVD

I've been struggling all morning with this and thought I'd post to help others that might encounter this problem. I'm trying to use Boot Camp Assistant 3.0.1 on an Early 2009 20" iMac to install Windows 7 Enterprise. The disc I was using was a genuine Microsoft DVD sent to us through our Software Assurance program. For the life of me I could not get Boot Camp Assistant to recognize that the disc was inserted into the drive. I didn't find an answer to this problem, but I did find that downloading an ISO of the Windows 7 Enterprise installer from Microsoft's Volume License Service Center site and burning it with Disk Utility to a DVD-R was immediately recognized by Boot Camp Assistant and the install proceeded normally.
The disc that didn't work is labeled:
    Microsoft Windows 7 Enterprise
    32-bit x86 Upgrade: Pre-existing OS License Required
    (Volume License Product Key Required)
    DVD
    September 2009
    Software Assurance
    Windows
    End Item Part No.
    FYC-00127
    (barcode)
    X15-72936
If you're unable to get Boot Camp Assistant to recognize a DVD that you received from Software Assurance, you might have better luck burning your own DVD-R from an ISO downloaded from Microsoft.

"The disc that didn't work is labeled:
    Microsoft Windows 7 Enterprise
    32-bit x86 Upgrade: Pre-existing OS License Required
    (Volume License Product Key Required)"
It appears you were attempting to install an upgrade version. Did you have a previous version of Windows installed and were you upgrading, or were you trying a new install using an upgrade dvd?

  • How to mass deploy Windows InTune client software with GPO

I have been looking for mass deploy Windows InTune client software. The only option that I had was with GPO. As we know the exe is not possible to deploy with GPO. Ok, we can play arouund with ZAP files or tranform exe to msi. In my opinion this is
rather »walk-around« the »enginering aproach. So, how can we mass deploy InTune client with GPO. We need to extract the msi from exe. The command is »Windows_Intune_Setup.exe /Extract <destination-directory> ». The command extracts exe to x86 and x64
client msi install. Then we can deploy throw GPO. The »WindowsIntune.accountcert« file must be in the same folder share as described in document http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj676611.aspx.
I have tested the deployment, and works good.

  • Does Windows Intune come with a Windows License

Does a Windows Intune subscription still come with a Windows Enterprise upgrade license?
We've got some Windows 7 Professional PC's and some Windows 8.1 PC's and we require two things: -
      1: BitLocker
      2: Windows Intune
I don't want to have to pay to upgrade ALL of the PC's to Windows 8.1 Professional in order to get BitLocker and then roll out Windows Intune. I am hoping I can buy a Windows Intune subscription for each user, and be given a licence to upgrade their
primary PC to Windows 8.1 Enterprise - therefore allowing me to enable BitLocker on each PC.
I would really like an answer about the "Enterprise Licence" for Windows Intune.
    Regards,
Mark G Briggs - technology is a passion

    Hello,
if you wants to have Windows 8.1 Enterprise (includes BitLocker) than you need to purchase Windows Intune subscription with Software assurance for Windows for each device with Windows 7 professional.
Note:The Windows operating system upgrade included with Windows Intune with Software Assurance for Windows can only be used on the licensed user’s primary PC. However,
you can manage an additional four (4) devices.

  • WS 2012 R2 Software Assurance with OEM

If I purchase an OEM version of Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard (from Amazon), can I purchase and apply Software Assurance to it?
This blog post seems to suggest I can:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/mssmallbiz/archive/2006/02/27/539953.aspx
However, this page seems to suggest that it is only available through Volume Licensing:
    http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/software-assurance/#tab=2
Additionally, through the Microsoft License Advisor I can only select to purchase SA if I use a volume licensing program.  I was under the impression that if you use a volume license program that the copy is no longer OEM.
Can anyone clarify how and if I can add SA to an OEM version (purchased through amazon)?  Thank you!

Remember that licensing is a legal agreement between you and Microsoft.  Your lawyers most likely will not accept answers provided by technical resources on a technical forum.  Your best recourse to get licensing questions answered is to contact
Microsoft (www.microsoft.com/licensing) or to talk to a licensing specialist at the vendor from whom you purchase the server.
A couple of points.  You mention purchasing an OEM license from Amazon.  You cannot purchase an OEM license without purchasing the associated server.  If someone is offering an OEM license without a server, I would question that they are selling
you a legal copy.  So let's assume you are also purchasing the server through Amazon.  I do not believe Amazon is a server OEM, so they are most likely working on behalf of some server OEM.  That server OEM would be the one to contact with your
    question.
In that first video you reference, it does speak of the ability to add SA to an OEM license.  But if you listen, you will hear the narrator say that adding SA grants full volume licensing rights.  Though not stated explicitly, that implies the
requirement of having a volume licensing agreement in place in order to be able to add SA to an OEM license.  Therefore, that then jives with the second link.

  • Windows Intune Fails to update.

I've ran into an issue that I never encountered before recently. We are a small business with Intune deployed on all machines to keep things in order and uniform. However, a few days ago we had to format one of the machines and reinstall Windows
8 on it. Since then, Intune has been struggling to update. The machine showed a bunch of updates but always fails from the first one, with the update client shutting down immediately. Most updates were installed through Windows Update manually but the
one update that always fails is the Windows Intune Client Service update. I've traced the logs and the "ClientNotificationUI" log is the only one receiving an error code, with that being 0x80010108 " Failed to change the client state".
I've tried most things with nothing actually working. What I thought would do the trick was to remove intune completely and then reinstall using the latest client from the admin console. Still, that didn't do it as apparently that is not the latest version
of the client. The machine is stuck in an endless update loop, with nothing actually installing.  If you have any ideas I'd greatly appreciate your help!

We found no solution to this issue unfortunately. The only workaround was to manually "push" the updates that Intune was downloading. For some inexplicable reason, the client could not update itself or things related to it, on its own. It was just downloading
the updates and then nothing. After lots of efforts, windows is up to date now. However, a different issue entirely has appeared. There are no details for the machine on the Administration page of Intune and the managed software does not reach the client.
I used to get the Agent not installed error before but now nothing. From the client's side of things, everything appears to be ok. For the main purposes of Intune, not so. Any ideas why this is happening?

  • AD synced with Windows Intune, workspace join required??

is workplace join required for managing devices? i'm not getting around this question.
When i install the windows intune client software with, the workspace join is not required. However, when i enroll from the company portal it seems the workspace join is required.
    How is this designed actually?

No, workplace join is about single sign-on and access control to internal resources. It has nothing to do with managing devices other than providing some limited visibility of them.
    Intune requires Azure Active Directory.

  • License mobility through software assurance clarityHi

    Hi,
we have bunch of licencing available in the MSDN subscription, we are planning to use these licence in Azure VM, My question is
    1. currently Azure change per VM based on the OS, If we use our won licence then how it will be charged ?
    2. All the OS upgrades are taken care by the Azure team or we need to take care ?

    Hi sharan,
    Thanks for posting!
Base on my understanding, Azure charged by the number of azure virtual core, RAM size and OS and so on. And Windows prices below include Windows Server licensing cost. If you have License Mobility with this Software Assurance benefit, there is no need
to purchase new licenses and no associated mobility fees so, you can easily deploy existing licenses on the Azure cloud platform. I recommend you could refer to the
    azure VM pricing page
    and License Mobility pricing page.
Also, you could try the azure support channel via

  • Windows intune message are you the primary users of this computer?

When logged in with a adminstrative account, we successfully installed the Windows Intune client with the login crecentials that are specific for one user.
When this user is logged in to his Windows desktop and he wants to start the Company Portal, he receives a message after using his Intune account credentials:
"Are you the primary users of this computer? To take full advantage of the Windows Intune Portal, and to able to install apps on this computer, it has to be linked to you. If you aren't linked as the primary user of this computer, you will not be able
to install apps from this portal.
You have the option Yes or No.
When selecting Yes, you will receive an error: Oops... an error occured! Link was not successful. An error occured when we tried to link you to this device. You will not be able to install apps onto this device from Windows Intune Portal before you are linked
to the device. For assistance Contact IT.
More information will show you an Activity ID code.
When you continue you can install apps from the Portal, but each time you connect to the Portal you will receive this message.
    Is this a bug?

Depending on how you plan on using Intune this may not apply but for us, it provided a "decent" work around for windows 8.1 devices.
During our initial testing of Intune, we got around this "error" message on Windows 8.1 devices by installing the Company Portal app.  It required a separate Windows Store account to successfully install the app as none of my corporate test accounts
were linked to Microsoft accounts, which you had the option to do.
Once the App was installed I was finally able to log into our Company Store with the test Intune account that was linked to the Windows 8.1 tablet.  Our published LOB apps were listed along with the linked device too.
You could definitely deploy or sideload the Company Portal app, but for my testing purposes installing from the Store was sufficient.  Unfortunately, logging in from the website or the Applications link located in the Windows Intune Center
still will not work.  A solution would be greatly appreciated as we were hoping to deploy to Windows 7 devices also.
