Software Installer and wireless internet problems after upgrade from Leopard to Lion.

Last weekend I upgraded the OS on my MacBook Pro from Leopard to Snow Leopard, and then from Snow Leopard to Lion. I'm having a couple of problems.
First, I cannot get the wireless internet to work. My internet connection is fine, I can plug the ethernet cord in and all is well. But I cannot get wireless signals to work. Have tried both my Airport Express and an old linksys router, and neither seem to work. They both worked just fine before the update. I had very fast wireless internet, and now nothing.  With the Airport Express, when I plug it in iti'll just continuously blink orange, and the Airport Utility refuses to recognize it. The linksys router seems to work, because it puts off a signal and my iPhone connects to it. My computer recognizes the signal, but it won't open any internet pages, says I'm not connected.
Today I tried to install Apple's Migration Assistant software to help with my first problem.  But a funny thing happened.  The software installer says I don't have enough space. But I have plenty- I have almost 200 GB, and I only need 5 MB for the program.  I've never seen this happen before, it's so odd.  Any suggestions?
I really appreciate any assistance/suggestions!
Thanks,
Ellen

How do I purchase "Snow Leopard" from Mac App Store?
Please give me the link to "purchase  and download the Snow Leopard" in Apple Online Store.]
You can't purchase Snow Leopard from the Mac App Store.  Or "download" it.  That will be possible for Lion.
For the Apple Online store, why can't you just look for yourself?

I've installed Lion over Snow Leopard and all my non Apple software is still here - you may want to check if your software will work with Lion and I would definately recommend having a bootable backup in case anything goes wrong

  • Is there a step by step guide on upgrading from leopard to lion inlcuding data backup and migration?

is there a step by step guide on upgrading from leopard to lion inlcuding data backup and migration?

Let me just give you the breakdown:
Snow Leopard (10.6) needs to be purchased. You need Snow Leopard because it has the Mac App StoreAlternatively, you could get the Lion USB drive, but much more expensive
Once you have installed Snow Leopard, open the Mac App Store and find OS X Lion. This downloads OS X Lion Installer. After the download finishes, click on it, follow the steps and the installation begins!
No data will be lost during any of the upgrades
Let me know if you have any further questions.

  • I upgraded from leopard to lion and my epson printer will not work. I get a communication error

I upgraded from leopard to lion and my Epson printer will not work. I get a error message comunication error. What can Ido to fix this I bought a new USB cord and it did no good.

I suddenly had the same thing happen. I've had my new iMac for 3 months and at first my Epson Artisan 50 worked okay then yesterday I started getting the same error message other people on this support site have gotten. I tried ALL the advice given (deleating the Epson files from the library folder, etc. reinstalling older software) and nothing worked. With the newest iMac (and operating system) you cannot pick and choose which version of Epson software you want. You must use the 10.8 version or it simply will not open when you've downloaded it. Finally I found the comment above by den.thed and tried the OS X Mountain Lion: Reset the printing system suggested. As much as I hated to lose all my printing presets that took a lot of expiermentation to set up, I was desperate. I tried it and it worked. Now I just have to consult my old computer and try to recreate all my printing set ups.  So to others with Epson / Apple 10.8 issues this may help when everything else fails. Thanks den.thed for your advice.

  • Disk Utility and repair permissions problem after upgrade 10.5.1

*Problem with Disk Utility* - +repair permissions don't work anymore+
After upgrading to OS X 10.5.1 tried to correct permissions with Disk utility. But I'm not able to repair permissions, because I get this message every time "fault: The underlying task reported a fault at concluding." and permissions repair stops. Has anyone else had this problem and does anyone have any idea how to get this working again?

Will try installing OS X 10.5.1 again from the downkoad that you recommended. Won't be able to do this untill after the New Year but I'll let you know if this helped. I had another problem after he 10.5.1 upgrade and that was that the Security update 2007-009 also refused to install. Could this be related too the problems with Disk utility and the permissions problems.

  • Crazy problems after upgrading to Leopard.  Can you help?

I have a PowerMac G5, 1.8 dual processors. It came with 256MB of RAM, which I removed and replaced with 2GB of Crucial RAM soon after purchasing the computer nearly four years ago. I added a 250GB Maxtor hard drive to the 60GB original two years ago. I used the Maxtor drive for storage. Everything ran perfectly before Leopard and iLife ’08 installation.
Prior to installation, I cleaned off the 250GB Maxtor hard drive, and then installed Leopard to it using only the installation instructions on the disk. (FYI, I bought both programs from a local Apple store.) When prompted, I had it bring over the software and files from the original hard drive. My idea was to clean off the original, 60GB hard drive, and use it for storage. Due to problems galore, I have not done that.
When I waken my computer from an all-night Sleep mode, the following happens:
iWeb ’08 will load, but I cannot save anything to it.
Safari will load and immediately freeze.
Firefox will not load because it reports that it is already open.
Entourage will open initially, but then report it cannot open virtually any functions.
Word for Mac will open, but nothing can be saved.
iPhoto will open, but it cannot be used.
This is how it goes for every program—none are useable.
Though I attempt to use the Force Quit option, programs will not close. I am forced to do a hard quit—holding down the power button until the computer powers off. Upon reboot, all programs work fine. The trouble seems to occur after going into Sleep mode.
Just now I used the Disk Utility program, which upon completion, reported the following:
Verify permissions for “Whopper” (the name of the 250GB hard drive)
ACL found but not expected on “Library.”
    Permissions verification complete
    Repairing permissions for “Whopper”
ACL found but not expected on “Library.”
    Permissions repair complete
I am now running a test on the RAM, using Rember, as suggested in another thread. –All tests passed.
    So, there you have it.
    Suggestions?

You're not kidding, are you? Can I choose door number 2? To say that I'm disappointed and disillusioned would be insufficient. I've done precisely what I learned at a local Apple Store.
Sorry, I'm not kidding. But it isn't that big a deal. You are probably just frustrated and disillusioned based on your experiences with your flaky install. Try to remember how you felt about upgrading to Leopard before. That optimism is still warranted, with a little effort.
I'm sure Apple's official instructions work fine 99% of the time, but there is no way that Apple or anyone can guarantee an automatic upgrade. That is why Apple always says to have a good backup before any upgrade.
Would you translate what you instructed me to do? I don't know how to re-partition my original drive, nor do I know how to do a default MacOS X installation. It reads like I'm going to get a virtually naked machine, with none of the settings or files from before. Is that correct?
Yes. That is correct. You start with a naked drive and install everything from scratch. Your machine will be "as if" it came from the factory with Leopard installed.
You can boot off of the Leopard install DVD and run Disk Utility from the Tools? menu and delete partition on your "Whopper" drive. Then, return to the installer and just accept all the defaults. You don't have to worry about "upgrade install" vs. "archive & install". This will give you a fresh system.
Is it possible to wipe-out what I have done on the newer hard drive (250GB), and go back to the original 60GB drive? Is it possible to start again, or are the files on that drive now converted to the new? Does that make sense?
It would be ideal if you could throw away everything on the new drive. You can always copy off any new or modified files and restore those later. It sounds like you haven't been able to do much on Leopard anyway. It also sounds like you still have your 60 GB original, pre-leopard backup, which is a very good thing.
There may be some people who will tell you to do an "Archive and Install" to install a new 10.5. That will probably work too. You will have to resist the temptation to go into the archived area and just start copying files back. That would likely put you right back where you started. The same goes for any of the "migration" tools. For all I know, they work great 99% of the time. I've never tried them and I've had problems 0% of the time. The reason I always recommend a re-partition is because it guarantees you have a factory install. It makes restoring more difficult, but I consider that to be a good thing.
    Here is my recommendation:
    1) Make sure you have a backup of your current boot drive
    2) Boot from from install DVD
    3) Use Disk Utility to re-partition boot drive
    4) Reinstall MacOS X using default options
    5) Reinstall any applications
    6) Setup user environment the way you want
    7) Copy over your old user and data files into a quarantined location.
    8) While maintaining backups of your new preferences and settings files, selectively restore your old files. These are things like your old Address book, your old Mail folder, and 3rd party application preferences files that contain license codes, etc.
Step 1-5 will take a couple of hours. Step 6, 7, and 8 may take a few days to get sorted out the way you want.

  • Search Service Application problems after upgrading from Foundation to Enterprise edition of SharePoint 2013

Hi all. I have been searching for days for a solution to a problem I am having with SP2013 Enterprise edition.
We recently upgraded from SP2013 Foundation to SP2013 Enterprise. After the upgrade, the search services are no longer working and we are receiving many application log entries indicating the following:
Application Server Administration job failed for service instance Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.SearchServiceInstance (ea2019ef-bb9e-4efe-85ee-5d2307406f31).
Reason: Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))

    as well as:
Application Server Administration job failed for service instance Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.SearchServiceInstance (ea2019ef-bb9e-4efe-85ee-5d2307406f31).
Reason: The object you are trying to create already exists. Try again using a different name.

       at Microsoft.Office.Server.Administration.ApplicationServerJob.ProvisionLocalSharedServiceInstances(Boolean isAdministrationServiceJob)
I have tried to remove the search service application and recreate it, and even though the SharePoint Central Administration states that it was created successfully, I am still getting the same errors in the log. If I go to the Search Service Application
Search Administration page, the "System Status" shows the following message:
The search service is not able to connect to the machine that hosts the administration component. Verify that the administration component '0359af35-0982-4ede-8838-b1d390e915bf' in search application 'Search Service Application' is in a good state and
    try again
Additionally, under the "Search Application Topology" section, it states "Unable to retrieve topology component health states. This may be because the admin component is not up and running" which I assume is normal if the admin is not
    running.
Does anyone know how I can resolve this problem?
    Thanks!

    Hi Joaquin,
According to your description, the error occurred when you re-created the Search Service Application.
Based on the error message, I recommend to verify the things below:
       1. Check if the association between the Search Service Application proxy and the web application is configured.
Please go to Central Administration > Application Management > Configured service application associations > Click Default to see if the Search Service application is checked.
       2. Change the app pool for the Search Service Application to SharePoint Web Services Default in the properties of the Search Service Application.
Please go to Central Administration > Application Management > Manage service applications > Highlight the Search Service Application > Click Properties in the ribbon > Change
the two app pool to SharePoint Web Services Default: App Pool For Search Admin Web Service and Application Pool for Search Query and Site Settings Web Service.
        3. Run PS command to check if the search admin timer job is enabled: Get-SPTimerJob
job-application-server-admin-service | fl. If it is not enabled, use PS command to enabled it and then reset Internet Information Services: Enable-SPTimerJob job-application-server-admin-service.
    Best regards.

  • Mail problems after upgrading to Leopard 10.5.6

To day I upgraded my daughter's MacBook to Leopard 10.5.6 (from about 10.3 ?)
During the install the only problem was at the very end, the configuration wizard failed to make connection with the internet because Airport had lost the password for my wireless router. Once this had been reinserted we had instant internet connection, but by then I had closed the wizard.
Everything else went well except for Mail, the most important application!
When you click on Mail in the docking area it appears in the bar at the top of the screen but no window opens. To get one open we had to click on file> new viewer window. But this window was blank. Clicking on get new mail did nothing. No emails of any kind were visible. Checking the account details showed that they had transferred correctly, and the diagnostic window showed that it was connecting to the server and logging into the IMAP mail account OK.
Rebooting the Mac did not help.
The Mail program has to be forced to shut down, it won't exit gracefully.
I could not get it to send a message either, click "send" and it just sat there spinning its wheels.
At no point did we get any error messages.
We took a backup of the entire system to an external USB drive before the upgrade and all the files associated with Mail appear to be in the same place as before. There still seem to be hundreds of emails on file, we just can't see them. Clicking on one of there email files does nothing.
Is this a known problem? Is there some new feature of Mail we are not using? Has Mail failed to upgrade correctly? Any ideas how to fix this?
I've just found a note on theappleblog.com that suggests that Mailbox > Rebuild will solve this problem, but on this machine "Rebuild" is greyed out.

    Hi,
Please note that this upgrade related problem would very likely be what has been covered by the support document at the link below:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2537
If you also find any files named to include MessageSorting (which would mean you once have upgraded from a version of OSX earlier than 10.4, which is clearly the case for you), remove those, also, but never restore those.
Often this is all that needs to be done, but you might then need to force an overall reindexing via the removal of the Envelope Index. Note the special instructions when forcing the reindexing of IMAP or Exchange accounts in the following:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mail/3.0/en/14019.html
This will force the reindexing of all the POP mailboxes and all On My Mac mailboxes. With regard to any IMAP accounts if you have any, the practical result of this action of removing the account folder, is that with the IMAP account still set up in the Preferences, Mail will connect to the IMAP server and create a new account folder, and while doing so will index the messages in the mailbox folders of the IMAP accounts on the server.
    Keep me posted.
    Ernie

  • No internet connection after upgrade from windows 8 to windows 8.1

I have upgraded my operating system from windows 8 to windows 8.1, I also updated windows 8.1 after the system upgrated. I found there is no access to internet, although I have full wifi signal. I tried to conncet to the router via ethnet cable, but it still has no internet connection. However, I can see other computers at homenet via wifi.  I have seen some questions in the Forum regarding wifi failure after upgrating to windows 8.1, and I tried to uninstall all my drivers (LAN and wireless) of network adapter, and re-install the latest drivers from HP website at http://support.hp.com/gb-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-Sleekbook-15-b000/5296234/model/5311051#Z7_3054ICK0KGTE30AQO5O3KA30R1(I tried the Ralink ones as I remembered the old drivers are Ralink), but it does not work.  Please could you help?

Hi @Koala76 , Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome! I have read your post on your HP Pavilion Sleekbook 15-b052ea and Windows 8.1 causing issues for you when trying to connect to the wireless. Try opening Device Manager, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Device Manager. In Device Manager, locate the network adapter, and then double-click the device name. Click the Driver tab, and then uninstall everything in the list except the Realtek and the Ralink. Remove any USB devices and Ethernet cables that are connected. Restart the computer. After you restart the computer, please use the HP Support Assistant. The HP Support Assistant has a wireless connectivity troubleshooting tool inside. Here is a screen shot of the Internet and Security tool that will help you diagnose Internet Connectivity.  I hope this helps! Thanks.
