Solaris 10 rebooting / resetting loop after recent patchset install

I installed the latest patchset the other day and everything looked like it installed correctly, I received no errors. Afterwards and going to reboot, the system now is in a constant reboot loop.
Rebooting with command: boot / pci@0,6000000/pci@0/pci@8/pci@0/scsi@1/disk@0,0:a
The / file system (dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0) is being checked
Syncing file systems . . . Done
rebooting . . .
Restting . . .
I can get the machine to boot into failsafe, and I have backed out the last two kernel patches, because my support tech told me too to see if that was the cause of the problem, however that didn't really do anything it's still in this reboot loop.
If I try and get it too boot to single usermode, I get the same results of the constant reboots. Support really doesn't seem to know what else to do, so what I'm wondering is, if I boot to CD-Rom and do a reinstall of Solaris, will that keep all my data or will that format the drives? I'm wondering because we have a ton of data on it and I really don't want to lose it all.

Matty79 wrote:
Therein lies the problem. The machine is on a disconnected network, so while I have no problem typing, it would require that I do exactly that. Type everything out to them as they can't pull data off of it remotely.Explorer is a software application you install to the box.
You run its script and it takes all that information for you, then saves everything in a single output file.
Even if it's a deprecated tool, it would still be good enough.
I'm wondering if this could be a firmware problem on the machine itself? As I tried to say in my first reply...
Yes, software patch bundles do need specific minimum OBP patch levels on certain systems. You haven't yet told anyone here what model your system actually is but when glancing at your device path to the disk drive, I made a guess.
As I also mentioned in my first reply, newer software patch levels can also effect how other hardware components like RAM might work and can suddenly reveal marginal DIMMs that used to work but aren't good enough any more.

  • Need to reboot CM server after Device Package install (suppport new phone)

hi! we have 4.1(3)SR7 but does NOT have support for new phone model 7925G. As a result, we need to install CallManager Device Package 4.1(89.0).
But I am getting conflicting message about the need to reboot CallManager server after installation.
if yes, reboot all CM servers in the cluster or just the PUB?
    readme says:
"When applying this Device Package to enable new device support, a cluster-wide reboot is required for those devices to register successfully.
A clusterwide reboot IS NOT required when running to update existing firmware/support."

A device pack does two things for you.
    1) It adds new phone models to your CUCM deployment, i.e, adding support for 7925G.
    2) Updates the firmware for phone models which are already supported in your CUCM depoyment, e.g., 7941G
If you are performing option 1 (which you are, by adding support for 7925G phones) you must reboot the cluster (all servers). This is so that the web page will start displaying the new phone models for you.
If you are only performing option 2, then you only need to reset the phones. At which point they will download the new firmware from the TFTP directory as instructed by their config xml file they download upon reset.

  • Computer will not boot up after recent software install

I recently tried to install a series of software updates. Not all were successful. Soon therafter the computer froze up while in safari. I turned it off and the computer would not boot up on restart, and instead sent me to the darwin login screen. I rebooted in safe mode per these forums, and turned off an itunes startup function, and then rebooted. That seemed to do the trick as I could now get back into the OS, but the computer was dreadfully slow. It froze up again in Safari and I turned it off again, and this time it would not go past the grey startup screen with the apple. I tried safe mode again, but the computer would shut down around 30 seconds after the wheel below the grey apple started turning. I Was able to get my Tiger Install DVD in the drive, and turned the computer back on, but now just get the grey apple screen and the wheel spinning indefinitely. I cannot do an erase and install because my photos are not backed up. Please help!
    Thanks

Hi, Deaton41. Welcome to the Discussions.
You wrote: "I recently tried to install a series of software updates. Not all were successful."I suspect the only way you are going to resolve this is by performing an Archive and Install. For important tips on this process, see my "General advice on performing an Archive and Install" FAQ. Perform the steps therein in the specified order. If you follow my FAQ's steps to the letter, then your photos should be AOK, assuming directory corruption hasn't damaged them. I suspect directory corruption is the root cause of the unsuccessful software updates, which that then led to your current problem re: start up.
Before installing future software updates, you may wish to consider the advice in my "Installing Software Updates" FAQ. Taking the steps therein before installing an update often helps avert problems and gives you a fallback position in case trouble arises.

  • Tungsten E2 Reset Loop After Applying Security Panel Update and Daylight Savings Updates

I applied the Security Panel and Daylight Savings updates to my Tungsten E2 handheld.  The hotsync operation required me to press reset. Now my handheld loops on the Palm Powered screen.  Subsequent attempts to reset have the same result or ask me to delete all data.
Does anyone have a solution for this?

    Post relates to: Tungsten E2

If you have the data current in Palm desktop, do the hard reset. Do another sync to see if the E2 starts looping.
If it does, you will need to rename the backup folder in the username folder and then sync again.
Here is a link to an article regarding the location of the username folder on the PC http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/common/article/37326_en.html
Try installing one update at a time to see if one of the updates are causing the issue.

  • Reset router after new clean install of vista?

I had to do a clean re-install of Vista. How do I get my router working again? I have the WRT54G. Do I reinstall the software and
go thru the whole set-up process again? I can get online with my laptop so I know it still works, but not my desktop which is
where the router is set up. Thanks for help.

Make sure that your Vista Desktop is connected to the router on Ethernet Port and the Port light should be lid. Also Check if the driver for the NIC on your computer is installed properly.
Check the IP address on the computer..Click Start >> All Programs >> Accessories >> Command Prompt...A black box will appear(Command Prompt)...In the Command Prompt window type ipconfig and press 'Enter'...Look for Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection IP Address , Subnet Mask and Default Gateway...
IPV4 Address should be 192.168.1.x, Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway : 192.168.1.1 (assuming your router is 192.168.1.1)...
If you get the above mentioned IP Address, Subnet and Gateway Address then you should ping the Gateway, type ping 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...If it gives you request timed out then disable any firewalls, security softwares on the computer...
If you get 4 replies then type ping 4.2.2.2 and press Enter, if you get request timed out, then you need to upgrade your router's firmware...If you get 4 replies then type ping yahoo.com and press Enter...If you get replies for Yahoo then you should get the Internet after adjusting the browser settings...
Adjusting Browser Settings : Open an IE, click Tools >> Internet Options, then delete all files, cookies, history, forms...Goto "Connections", make sure Never Dial a Connection is checked, click on LAN Settings and make sure all the options are unchecked...Once you are done click on O.k...Close the IE and re-open it...
If yahoo times out then provide static DNS on your LAN Connection...
Click on the Start button >>> Settings >>> Control Panel >>>Network Connections- Right click on the icon for Local Area Connection and go to properties- On the 'General' tab select 'Internet Protocol TCP/IP V4' and click on the Properties button- Select 'Use the Following DNS Settings' Preferred DNS 4.2.2.2 Alternate DNS - 192.168.1.1>>Click on Ok button to Save and Click on "Close" on main Properties window...You should be able to go online...
If you are getting the IPV4 address as 169.254.x.x then, reduce the card speed...Click on the Start button >>> Control Panel >> Network and Sharing center >>Left hand side under task Click on manage wireless network >> Right click on the ""Local Area Connection"" icon and select properties-Here click on the "Configure" button- Click on the "Advanced" tab- In the "Property" box highlight Link speed and duplex/Connection type/Network or Media type- And in the "Value" box select 10 Mbps half duplex/ 10 base T/10 base half mode and click on OK..

  • Modem reboots/resets itself after 5-10 min movie stream

I have an Apple TV 2 and a 2Wire 2701HG-T Gateway. The problem is like this:
    1. I start to stream an HD movie (2 to 4 GBs) from my PC (Windows 7) to ATV2
    2. After 5-10 min my router/modem reboots itself and all devices lose connection to internet
    3. When my router/modem is back up (after 2-3 min) all devices regain connection to internet
    4. I start the movie where I left it and it happens again after a random amount of time. (Sometimes it doesn't happen again and I can finish watching my movie)
    Importat notes:
    * My router/modem ONLY does this when I stream large HD movies from my PC, if my ATV2 is off and I'm downloading stuff, browsing, etc. It works like a charm, this just happens ONLY when I use my ATV2.
    * I don't lose connection with iTunes (Home Sharing). My problem completly shuts down my whole network and as soon as it is back up ATV2 finds iTunes with no problem and I can resume my movie. So it's not a Home Sharing/iTunes issue.
So that's it, any ideas what the problem might be?

Our Cisco Linksys WRT610N did this too. Every few days it would crash and reboot itself while we were watching Netflix on the AppleTV. I bought an AirPort Extreme a few days ago and it hasn't happened again yet. Too soon to know for sure but my hunch is it isn't going to crash like the Linksys did.
Sorry I don't have a solution for you. I think it boils down to most consumer routers being junk.

  • HT6114 Reboot loop after 10.9.2 upgrade

My 2009 (dual-quad) Mac Pro 4,1 is now stuck in a reboot loop after upgrading from 10.9.1 to 10.9.2.
//edit: I realized there wasn't a question: What is wrong with my computer and how do I fix it?
    So far I have tried:
    * Repairing the disk
    * Repairing permissions
    * Zapping the NVRAM/PRAM
    * Resetting SMC
    * Copying BootCache.playlist from a backup to /var/db
Other things to note about my setup:
In addition to the original hard drive, I installed a 4tb drive from which I have been working with since June. It is the 4tb drive that has 10.9.2 installed. The original 650gb still has 10.8.4 installed and all my original data pre-June.
Also installed is a VisionTek Radeon 7870 video card which powers my numerous monitors. I do not recall having to install anything extra, or modify any settings to get it to work. The only downside is you can't really see anything when booting.
In addition to the VisionTek card I also have one of the factory Geforce 120 cards installed. Using another monitor attached to that card I've been able to monitor the boot process using the command-v verbose output.
Of notable interest I get the dreaded "BootCache: unable to open /var/db/BootCache.playlist : 2" error, along with a few SMC errors. If these are important I can attach pictures taken of the boot process.
I am able to zap the NVRAM and boot the old 10.8.4 650gb drive. It loads fine. 10.9.2 will not boot into safe mode, but will boot into recovery mode.
As a final attempt to fix the BootCache error I copied it from a Time Machine backup into /var/db/ ensuring the correct permissions were set. After rebooting the file is deleted again.
I would greatly appreciate any help on this issue as this is my work computer. I do have full backups via Time Machine so I can reinstall, but I'm hoping there's another solution.

I just started a discussiion related to this topic in "Mac Pro."

I could log in remotely from my laptop. I then attached the 30" Cinema Display into the DVI port and the Mac booted normally."

  • Looping Restart in Early Intel iMac after recent 10.5 update

My friend's iMac is stuck in a restart loop after downloading the latest update for her 10.5 system. She hadn't installed an update for about 4 months so I am not sure what update would have caused the loop. Her computer was working fine before the update so I am picking it is a software issue.
Having searched the forums I haven't come up with people experiencing a similar problem.
    _*What is happening:*_
Hit the startup button, it hangs in the white Apple logo screen with the spinning icon for five to ten minutes ... then it automatically restarts itself returning to the same loop over and over again.
    _*What I have done:*_
    1. Tried a PRAM reset ... no change
    2. Tried an Install Disc restart with the 'C' key ... it starts alright but then says this is the wrong disc for the computer. I can't find my Leopard install disc. I will have a better look for it soon.
    3. Tried connecting it as a target drive ... I just get a blank white screen
    _*A further problem:*_
I was going to reset her computer off her Time-machine backup but when I checked it out it would not allow me into it saying I did not have permissions ... which means any reinstall of the system will not be able to access her time-machine.
Any ideas of what I should try? I will try to find my Leopard install disc and do the reboot off it. I think that is my best bet at the moment.

  • Random iPhone crashes and reboot loop after iOS 7 upgrade

    Hi all
Since I upgraded my iPhone to iOS 7, I suffer from random crashes/resets, where my iPhone reboots and enters a reboot loop (Apple logo, black screen, reboot, Apple logo, black screen, reboot, etc) that I can only exit by restoring the device (resetting doesn't help).
    Some more information
    a) The device: iPhone 4, 32 GB, has never been jailbroken, and has never shown any similar issues before.
    b) The crashes/reboots: I haven't been able yet to find a pattern when and why they happen. I had reboots when searching for an app, when pluging in the wall charger, when entering the access code, and even when doing nothing at all (iPhone in my pocket). The only constant is the reboot loop after the crash.
    c) What I tried so far: I restored the device several times, using normal restore (with the iTunes logo) and DFU mode (black screen). After that, I recovered from a recent backup (takes some hours), and everything is ok again - for some hours, until the next crash and reboot loop. I also set up the device as a new phone, and there it seems stable, so I exclude a hardware issue. I tried quite a few of the advices that I found when googling for reboot loops: reset all settings (this led to an another immediate crash and reboot loop), disable app background refresh, etc.
I've been using this device for my daily business. With the current instability (and the couple of hours it takes to bring it back to life again), it became more or less useless. I wish I could downgrade again (I know that I can't). My assumption is that either iOS 7, or some incompatible app or some corrupt setting is causing this situation. But I don't know how to proceed to isolate and eliminate the issue. I really would like to avoid setting up everything from scratch again.
    Any advice is greatly appreciated!

    All,
First of all, sorry for my half-finished post above. While typing, I was interrupted, and by reflex I hit CMD-S. Unfortunately, the stupid interface of Apple's support website interpreted that as a submit command. I tried to complete my text with the update function, but when finally hitting the submit button, I got an error message, and all my updated text was gone... No way to bring it back, and also no way to delete the half-baked posting. Quite frustrating.
Now, to complete what I started above:
In my case, the problem definitely had something to do with the springboard process (an iOS system 'app' that manages the iOS homescreens) and the watchdog process (another iOS system 'app' that monitors certain things on your phone and that can initiate a restart when it thinks the phone is frozen). In the folder '/Users/<your account>/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/<your phone>' I could see what caused my crashes; they were all 'stack+SpringBoard' and the reason in these crash log files was 'Watchdog timeout'.
The following two forum posts helped me:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1676330?start=30&tstart=0
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/20794982#20794982
I'm quite sure that my issues had to do with the 'application map' that is mentioned in the above posts. So far, Ive been thinking that it was just too large (as in the case of Andi1996 [second link above]), but jmbladen's observation seems not to support this. So, the absolute number might not the source of the problem, but I still assume that something went wrong with my application map during the upgrade from iOS6 to iOS7. I remember having stability problems before, as soon as all my 10 home screens were full of apps and newly downloaded apps would generate additional pages (only visible via iTunes). Considering that there are some fundamental changes to how we can organize apps within folders in iOS 7, it can well be that the springboard process just wasn't able to cope with my application map correctly within the 120 seconds before the watchdog process restarts the phone. My massive cleanup action must have fixed this somehow.
@jmbladen: I'm only using iCloud for the 'find my phone' functionality, so all the backup & recovery was done via iTunes from my local harddisk. And there was no temporal pattern for my crashes before. You might suffer from the same symptoms, but probably not because of the same cause.
My advice for anyone affected by random crashes and a reboot loop is to check out the directory with the CrashReporter logs mentioned above to find out what app or process causes the crash. If it's the springboard and watchdog problem, then you should try to clean up your home screens (from iTunes). Maybe the absolute number of apps is not that important, but make sure that you reduce the number of screens. And then sync and backup before you start using the phone again. In my case it helped.
Hope this helps someone else too.
P.S. Once you know the right keywords to search for, you find forum postings back to 2008 / iOS 2 describing exactly the same problem. This reboot loop is a very nasty issue, and it is hard to understand that Apple still hasn't been able to address this, or at least provide some better help on how to get out of it again.

  • Windows 10 Upgrade infinite boot loop after reset

I did a Windows 10 upgrade on an old computer with these specs:-Windows 7 Pro- 64 bit-Dell Optiplex 755-4 GB RAM-Intel Core2 Duo processor Everything ran fine after the upgrade. However I wanted to do a clean install. So I did so and chose the option to not keep any files or programs. It went through the process and was stalled at 99% for some time. I let it run over night. I came back and looked at it about 16 hours later and the 99% was gone, but the "hourglass" was still going. I pressed Escape and then CTRL+ALT+Delete to try to get it to respond. Now it is stuck in an infinite boot loop. It will reboot and then after several minutes it brings up an error message of "Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart...- Inaccessible boot device." Then it restarts and the loop starts over.I've tried booting into safe mode using F8, but...
