Solaris 8 on this config?

I'd like to install Solaris 8 on a new pc configuration that I just put together. The system is stable with correct BIOS settings. The machine consists of:
1. ASUS A7V-133 motherboard.
2. AMD Thunderbird [266] 1.2 ghz processor. A Promise HD controller is
present which controls the ATA100 HD mentioned below.
3. 256mb of PC133 memory.
4. ASUS V7100 Pure 32mb GeForce video card.
5. Western Digital 40 gig [7200 rpm] ATA100 hard drive.
6. Creative SoundBlaster Live MP3 sound card.
7. I have Windows 98 SE loaded as the primary OS. I'd like to dual boot
Solaris 8 as the secondary OS.
8. ACER 50x max CD-Rom drive.
9. LG 12x-8x-32x CDRW drive.
Can I purchase and sucessfully install Solaris 8 on the configuration
posted above? Thanks in advance.

Solaris does not support the promise (raid) controller. Move the
HD (and all the other ide devices you want to access from solaris)
to the VIA PCI-IDE controller.
The IDE disk is >32GB, so make sure you use the latest solaris 8
release or boot using the 110202-01 ata driver patch diskette.
Solaris driver patches
I'm not sure solaris will support your video card. You can skip
the video card/monitor/mouse setup during installation and install
in text mode. Once the system is installed, have a look at patch
109401-06, the solaris 8 x86 video driver patch. If this patch
does not add support for your video card, you either have to
install the xfree86 X11-Server or exchange the video card to one
that is supported by solaris.
The Soundblaster Live audio card is not supported by solaris 8.
You may have luck with the OSS (OpenSoundSystem) audio drivers.

  • What is going wrong with this config ??

    Hello guys,
I am busting my head to find out what is going wrong with this config and cant figure it out since i am not an advanced cisco technician.
Problem is that i cant access the 94.70.142.127 server that is supposed to be in a DMZ zone.
I know it is a bit chaotic but would really appreciate any help since i am running on a deadline.
I am building the config step by step and although it seems to be working access to the server all of the sudden is denied.
No idea if its a NAT issue a firewall issue or a security audit issue.
    There are 3 vlans.
Vlan 1 is the inside network.
Vlan 2 is the DMZ server
Vlan 3 is the Management Network.
    thanks in advance

    Hello karolos,
    Here is the thing.
You said you are trying to access 94.70.142.113 and that is a server on the DMZ but based in your configuration that is not true
ip nat inside source static 192.168.0.101 94.70.142.113
So 192.168.0.101 is on Vlan 1 witch is the in-zone
    interface Vlan1
    description $FW_INSIDE$
    ip address 192.168.0.1 255.255.255.0
    security in-zone
If you got confused with  the security zone that the host is assigned to then just add the following and it should work
    ip access-list extended WebServer
    permit ip any host 192.168.0.101

  • Modifying Solaris 10 perl Config.pm values

    Numerous perl packages won't
build on my Solaris 10 systems
    because the Solaris 10 perl's
    Config.pm packages identifies
    $Config{'cc'} as "cc" and not
    "gcc".
I'd like to just update Config.pm
to just point to gcc and not cc.
Is there a better way to
do this with the Config module,
    other than just editing Config.pm?
    Thanks --w

    /usr/perl5/bin/perlgcc -MCPAN -e shell
    (blah blah blah...)
This will set things so that for that invocation of perl, it will prefer to use 'gcc' and gcc appropriate flags. If you look at what it does, it just uses an alternate 'Config.pm' and sticks it in the perl environment ahead of the default one.

  • Solaris 10 zone config for JES

Setup a zone to install JES - Web servers, but when I launch the installer I get the following:
    WARNING: Unsupported non-global zone

Something in the zone setup is incorrect, but not sure what.
Anyone else out running JES in Solaris 10 zones?

    From docs.sun.com -
The following Java ES and zones scenarios are supported in this release of Java ES:
    * Installing Java ES in a non-global zone that uses the whole root file system (Using the default sparse root file system is not supported.)
    * Installing Java ES in the global zone with no non-global zones
Zone can be 2 type - sparse root and whole root . sparse root model has following folders inherited - /lib, /platform, /sbin and /usr.
If a non-global zone doesn't have any inherit-pkg-dir resources, such a zone is said to be a whole root one
If you want to create a whole root zone but default shared file systems resources have been added by using inherit-pkg-dir, you must remove these default inherit-pkg-dir resources using zonecfg before you install the zone:
    zonecfg:my-zone> remove inherit-pkg-dir dir=/lib
    zonecfg:my-zone> remove inherit-pkg-dir dir=/platform
    zonecfg:my-zone> remove inherit-pkg-dir dir=/sbin
    zonecfg:my-zone> remove inherit-pkg-dir dir=/usr

  • Solaris 10 zone config for one application

I have a Solaris 10 x86 server with 48GB of memory and 8 CPUs (although I believe hyperthreading is turned on because prsinfo shows 16 CPUs). The server is dedicated to one big application which spawns many processes/threads. Performance is extremely important for this application so I need to give it all of the resources possible.
I tried just allowing the application to run in the global zone because there's nothing else it will interfere with (aside from the OS) but I couldn't get it to utilize all of the CPUs this server has. My guess is the global zone is only designed for running the OS and playing traffic cop for the other zones, so it's not suited for running applications. Is that correct?
So my question is, assuming I do need to setup a dedicated zone for this monster application, how do I configure it to dedicate all CPUs and all memory (or as close to all of it as I can get)?
Also, is there some default limit on how much CPU % a process can have? Because I have tried getting one process to utilize 100% of a CPU and can't get anywhere near that... unless prstat doesn't display per CPU utilization information.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Is that correct? No. Unless you have dedicated CPUs to zones (so they are not available to the global zone), or unless you're running under a project which restricts CPU usage, the global zone has access to all virtual CPUs.
Can you see your process spawning threads? How much CPU is it able to use?

So you'd either need to run 16 single threaded processes, or your process would need to spawn 16 threads that were CPU-heavy. No, there's no default limit on a process.

  • Can a RVL200 connect to BEEVPN with this config?

    Hi all,
Hope someone can help me get clear on this. I'm in doubt whether I should buy a RVL200. I'm no expert in VPN or routers.
I would like to know whether or not I can use a RVL200 to establish an Ipsec tunnel to BEEVPN-service (beevpn.com).
They themselves use cisco equipment to connect to their customers.
They request the following configuration of me:
    Server: use "*****.beevpn.com"
    Account/Login/Username: Use your beevpn username.
    Password: Use your beevpn password.
    Group/Groupname: use "*******"
    Shared key/Shared secret: use "*******"
Can I config the RVL200 to those requirements? Then i'll happily buy one
    Regards
    Kaspermathias

I checked my 4 extremes and found that the 3 mac mini's, 2 powerbook's, 1 imac, and 1 xserve do connect to the closest extreme.
I have 1 extreme in the middle of the 2nd floor as the gateway. An extreme on the third floor for 2 mac mini's, an extreme on the far end of the second floor for an imac and a powerbook, and extreme on the 1st floor for a mac mini, powerbook, and xserve.
One item for consideration to help control access is by manipulating the min connect speed dialog box. The default is 1 mb. Up that number until your clients become ineligble to connect to distant routers. As cleints move away from routers, their connection speed reduces.

  • Getting FTP to work in Solaris 10, RE: config vs. firewall

We've recently migrated from a clustered Solaris 9 environment to Solaris 10 zones.
One issue that keeps coming up is the inability to ftp anywhere except within zones running on the same server. I can ftp between those zones without any problem.
Trying to ftp anywhere else, i.e. to a zone on another server node or to any other ftp server, I encounter one of two problems, either I don't get a login prompt at all, which leads me to think there's a firewall issue, or I can login fine, but when I issue any command, nothing happens, and upon ctrl-x'ing out I see:
"421 Service not available, remote server has closed connection"
I've seen a lot of totally useless stuff on the web that doesn't seem to apply to Solaris 10. I know there's a bunch of ftp configuration files, but we haven't touched them.
ftpd is running with the -a switch, but TCP Wrappers is set to false. I can ftp TO this server from a remote server as long as the firewall has been configured for the IP.
    To summarize.
    Zone A on Server A > Zone B on Server A : No problem
    Zone A on Server A > Zone B on Server B: Problem
If anyone can shed any light on this problem, that would be great.

Does perl work for ~/andrew?  You have ExecCGI set for /home/andrew/public_html and not /home/*/public_html:
    <Directory "/home/andrew/public_html">
            Options Indexes FollowSymLinks ExecCGI
            AllowOverride None
            Order allow,deny
            Allow from all
    </Directory>
Are permissions set to 755 so that the http user can run them?  Have you checked apache's error log?

  • Org Unit inheritance link to Parent Cost Center - is this Config?

    Hi
We started at a new client and have difficulty maintaining the Org Structure A 011 relationships to child Org Units. The system undoes our implicit links. We want the implicit links to be there and not inherited. Is it possible to switch off the inheritance in config?
    Please assist/advise.
    Thank you, Adrian

what do you mean when you say the system 'undoes' your implicit links? Did you mean the system undoes the inherited cc value by using the explicit cc-assignment done at an org unit level? if yes that is how sap works,...  the options are
    a. do not do explicit creation of cost center to org unit . that way assigning a cost center at the top org unit will suffice as that will be inherited to all org units down the structure. But this is not a workable business scenario at all.
    b. determine the explicit cost center assignments at each org unit level and do the assignment accordingly.
lastly : I dont think inheritence of cost center is something you can deactivate in img.
    cheers

Oracle Financials: Constant and High "Read" I/O:
    Problem Description:
Most of the I/O on all of our 3 Oracle Financial 11.5.9 servers is read intensive and they are all going against 2 “HOT” applsys database files causing constant high I/O even when the application is not in use.

The buffer_cache_lookups & buffer_cache_hits numbers are very close - OK
    Question:
I am pretty sure distributing the applsys tablespace and across six file systems will help?
What is the best way to do this in Oracle Financials?

    Hi
I'm not exactly clear on what you are attemting to do. However you first need to have at least one storage enabled configuration and then you need to have a backing map.
So your configuration should look somthing like this:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <!DOCTYPE cache-config SYSTEM "cache-config.dtd">
    <cache-config>
    <caching-scheme-mapping>

    <!--

    <param-value system-property="front.size.limit">2097152</param-value>

  • Looking for this config file that I can specify language to show on trace panel

Basically, I'm using a Window where the language(Control panel >Regional) is set to KOREAN so, in trace panel, the error message shows up in Korean but, I know in somehwere in Flex application application folder that there is a some type of config file that I can modify to something else like... EN for english.
Does anyone know where that is  in both Mac & Win?
    Thanks,
    BaBo,

You can right click the tab and choose "Close Tab" to close a tab.
Some menu entries are hidden by default and only appear if you use the keyboard to open the menu.
You can see the difference if you use Alt+F or Alt+B to open the "File" and "Bookmarks" menu and compare that to what you see if you use the mouse to open the menu after you have made the menu bar visible by pressing Alt or by pressing F10.
Press F10 or press and hold the Alt key down to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily.

  • Reccommended power supply for this config...

I am looking to install a couple SATA HDs in my rig. I currently have just the PS that came with my case, 420W. This is what my system will look like with the two new HDs:
    MSI Neo2 LS mobo
    2.4C P4
    1 GB Corsair PC3200
    Pioneer DVD Rom
    Sony 52x CD burner
    Floppy drive
    WD 120GB IDE HD
    Maxtor 160 GB IDE HD
Hitachi 160 GB SATA HD (x2)
Radeon 9800 128 MB (non pro)
    Thermaltake HSF
    80mm case fans (x2)
These are all the things that I can think of that will draw power off the PS. What wattage should I have and what kind of amperage would I want on the 12v rails to get the most stable machine?

sgweber, Not to be funny but as much as you can get
What are you planing to do with your machine ?
Are you going to overclock it?
What is your current PSU specs?
With my system I feel that the power supply unit I have is marginal at best
( see my signature for specs) because
1- I have a prescott (some guys just like punishment )
2- I am overclocking the heck out of it
3- I have more fans running in this thing trying to keep it cool than I do in my home
4- Two optical Drives (CDR and DVD)
    5-Two hard drives
6- My memeory volts pushed up to 2.7( not sure if this puts any kind of strain on the unit)
7- some other stuff that I can't remember

  • How to fix this Config ADS Connection ???

    Dear all,
I testing ADS connection, (login transaction SM59, create ADS connection, and test it.  I check the pasword of ADSUer in SU01 and in logon&Security in SM59 is the same).
    - It display a dialog box: "Respose from Web Server contains cookies. Accept ?"
    - I check Accept all further cookies. and click YES.
    - Then a login dialog box appear, request to enter UserName, Password .  Which account I should use to login ?
    - Sometimes it go directly to the result ( login diaglog does not appear ), but the Result is:   ~status_reason: Forbidden.
What is going on here? How can I fix this?

Did you activate the services in SICF?

  • What would this config actually do (srr-queue)

I have seen this interface configuration around on a few switches in my network.
    interface GigabitEthernet1/0/10
    switchport access vlan 2
    srr-queue bandwidth shape 0 0 0 0
What would the srr-queue command do here?  there is nothing else on the interface.
I think it pretty much does nothing, but just not 100% sure.
    thanks

    Hi,
This command is used for shaping the traffic. Do you have QOS enabled on the switch?
Issue show mls qos, to check if you have enabled it.
Here you have SRR shape weight to zero for all queues so effectively no shaping is applied. For example if you had something like srr-queue bandwidth shape 30 0 0 0, it would have restricted the first queue to “1/30” of the interface bandwidth (which is approximately 3.3Mbps for 100Mbps interface and approximately 330Kbps for a 10Mbps interface) and rest of the queues would have shared rest of the interface bandwidth.
For more details you may go through the following:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3750/software/release/12.2_50_se/configuration/guide/swqos.html#wp1163879
