Solaris/setuid root/LD_LIBRARY_PATH/ORACLE_HOME/lib*.so

We are running Solaris 2.7 and have about 20 programs which use Embedded SQL. A few of these programs are setuid to root. We have LD_LIBRARY_PATH set to $ORACLE_HOME/lib.
This turns out to be a security problem for Solaris. i.e., it will only locate .so files needed for a setuid program if those objects are in /usr/lib.
Short of static linking, can someone tell me if there's a way to get around this problem? Also, if we link statically, is there a way of knowing if the particular revision of Oracle on the runtime machine is compatible with the machine that the machine that the code was linked on?
Please reply by email. I need this info ASAP.
Many TIA

The LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable fits into this as the means to find and resolve the shared lib reference for loading of shared libraries. The load library call (whether called statically by the kernel when loading your executable, or called dynamically from within your loaded executable) needs to find the relevant shared lib on disk. And this environment variable determines where to look on disk for the physical library module to load.
Whether LD_LIBRARY_PATH is needed or not depends on how the dynamic link loader of the kernel works ito determing where to look for a shared lib.
The Windows dynamic link loader uses the PATH variable (after checking the current dir first). It seems from the test below that Linux needs the LD_LIBRARY_PATH set

What is LD_LIBRARY_PATH env variable for?

    Hi,
After changing the database to the ARCHIVELOG mode, I tried to restart the database instance using the web-based Enterprise Manager Database Controle, the following error message was displayed:
RemoteOperationException: ERROR: NMO not setuid-root (Unix-only)
    Could someone please help me?
    Thanks

    Was the root.sh script ran?
Check the permission of the nmo and nmb executable found in $ORACLE_HOME/bin or $AGENT_OH/bin. Both should have the following permissions
    ls -al nmo
    ls -al nmb
    -rwsr-s--- 1 root dba 22465 Apr 13 17:53 nmo
    -rwsr-s--- 1 root dba 18055 Apr 13 17:53 nmb
If not, change the permissions to match the above.

  • Using XSLProcessor in $ORACLE_HOME/lib/xmlparserv2.jar giving error in 10g

Being absolutely frustrated with the generic FOTY 001 fault for any mapping failure I tried looking for different solution in web.I did actually find out some interesting soutions which is to use XSLProcessor class $ORACLE_HOME/lib/xmlparserv2.jar for parsing XML to a partcular XSLT file.It is giving me the actual error with the proper line number for simple XSLT files. But when I try to use one of the PIP transformations it is still throwing errors for aia and xpath functions. For aia:getServiceProperty it can find out the proper attribute from AIAConfigurationProperties.xml and for xref:lookupXREF it is giving class initializer error.I have added both the jar aia.jar and bpm-services.jar to do that.I have also tried to use oraxsl command line utility which comes with oracle xdk but no luck there also.
In case anyone have been able to use them succesfully please help me out.

you have to do the migration one time. Better now than in the future. One day a forms patch will say: Graphics is now obsolete, please migrate.
To run a 6i graphics service on a 10g platform is (please believe me) the badest way to run your old graphics in the new world.

To check the permission for that file please see the below command
    *# ls -l <filename>*

  • Solaris 10 root RAID-1 support totally broken!

I have been configuring Sun Blade 1500 with two IDE drives (each on their own IDE bus) as RAID-1 for the /, swap and /export/home partitions. This has worked well and I have always been able to test the RAID-1 recovery ability of such a configuration. However I am very unhappy to report that this functionality to totally broken in Solaris 10. For example, if you disconnect the second IDE drive of the RAID and reboot, the machine kernel panics as expected. However unlikeSolaris 9, which still allows you to login for maintanence and to delete the metastat database entries for the missing drive (thus making the machine bootable without a kernel panic), under Solaris 10 the system simply restarts immediately upon the kernel panic, This makes the RAID-1 system more than just useless but actually dangerous since it now doubles the probabity that you will had a drive failure and end up with an unbootable machine. I am very glad I tested the RAID-1 recovery ability before I installed this machine. Back to Solaris 9 for me!

Perhaps the problem is the mount at boot flag set to no for the /devel /prod and /export/home filesystems? If your system is up try mounting these filesystems, if that works, set the mount at boot flag to yes.

I didn't started any component as root, but I can't finish installing AS 10.1.4.0.1 on Solaris 10 (x86). Tried many times, reinstalling everything, including the OS.
When I change the log level from 4 to 9, I can see the exact same error messages as you do.
But the only failing component to me is HTTP_Server.
No logs under $OH/opmn/log or $OH/Apache/Apache/logs.
OID and OC4J_SECURITY components are just fine.

    Thanks in advance...

Make sure to use oraenv so that it modifies current shell environment. In Bourne/Korn shell or bash you need to use the . command:
    . oraenv

If you still need help after that, you might want to post your question in the Database Installation forum. Once you have your environment setup, you should be able to compile your form(s).
