Hi all,
What is the procedure to set alias in Solaris 10, i edited .profile file with the alias command but its not working, is there any other file need to be edited. I want to set alias permanently.

  • Uifonts.ali/barcode font aliasing on Solaris

    Hello folks..
I'm running Oracle Reports 10g on a Solaris box. I am needing to print barcodes on PDF reports I generate. I have installed a TrueType font on my Windows box called Code39Azalea.ttf and did the same thing on the Solaris box.
On the Solaris side the font was installed using font administrator and the font works fine, same goes on the Windows side.
I created a plain jane report with some text in it "*12345*" and used the Code39Azalea.ttf font. In preview it looks like a barcode as it should. When I run the report on the web I just see the text "*12345*" and not the barcode.
In uifonts.ali located in /export/home/10gproduct/guicommon/tk/admin, in the PDF section I created the following:
    Code39Azalea = code39azalea
No barcode. I even changed it to equal times and various other fonts and it seems as though its not picking up the change. Yes I did restart the jobs to make sure the alias file is being picked up.
What should I set the alias to?
    Code39Azalea = ?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
What is the font name used in the PDF file ?
(Search for /BaseFont in the PDf file
    Example :
    /BaseFont /Helvetica-BoldOblique
The font name specified at the left of the equal sign must be the font name after the font aliasing. To find this font name, generate a HTML output (DESTYPE=FILE DESNAME=/tmp/fontname.html DESFORMAT=HTML) and check the font name used in the HTML output

  • Help!!!  Error while installing Oracle9i Application Server on Solaris 5.8

I have installed oracle 9i on sun solaris 5.8. it has the original seed database provided by oracle.
I am doing runinstall from disk1 directory of 9iAS and trying to install Oracle 9iApplication Server 9.0.2.0.0
after this I get a screen with Installation types where option A is selected by default (which installs J2EE, Webcache, HTTP server)when I press next it does setting up install types and displays the following message
" Your local host name database file(typically /etc/hosts) is not configured properly. This file should have and entry of the form:
    <IP_ADDRESS><FULLY_QUALIFIED_HOSTNAME><ALIASES>
on solaris systems, the following files should also contain the fully qualified hostname, including the domain name:
/etc/nodename, /etc/net/ticlts/hosts, /etc/net/ticots/hosts,/etc/net/ticotsord/hosts and any files in /etc whose name begin with 'hostname'
Failure to properly configure this file may result in product runtime issues regarding proper hostname resolution."
the /etc/host file has two entries one for loopback and other hostname which are in proper format except there is no alias for loopback.
Am I doing something wrong or was the oracle installation not proper.
I logged in as 'oracle' and changed all files. Next time when i tried to login using oracle acct and tried to open a terminal the screen went black.
    How do I install Oracle9iAS.

I am having a similar problem with an Oracle 8i install. It seems that the 9i install
heads off this same problem before running into it. There must be a file it sees
as not being properly updated with the host information. I checked all of the
host* files that I could find and they seem to be correct.
Please let me know when someone answers the question at both addresses
    below:

Did you watch the movie on your computer?
You have 30 days from the time of rental to watch your movie, and 24 hours (in the US) or 48 hours (elsewhere) after you've started viewing to finish it. Once the rental period expires, the movie will disappear from your iTunes library.

  • How to mount USB & CDROM drives from single user mode - Solaris boot disk?

    Hi All,
I need to carry out ufsrestore on a single newly replaced system disk (no redundancy / mirroring) from either USB or CDROM drives from the following steps:
    ( i ) GRUB => e, e, cdrom –s, Enter, b (boot from Solaris 10 x86 media).
( ii ) Choose menu 1 for Install Solaris Interactive Mode to reach single user mode.Below are the commands that I have tried in single user mode without success:
mount –r –F pcfs /dev/dsk/c1t0d0p0 /cdrom (after unmount Solaris CD)
mount: /dev/dsk/c1t0d0p0 is not a DOS filesystem.
    svcadm –v enable smserver
svcadm: Pattern ‘smserver’ doesn’t match any instances
    svcadm enable autofs
svcadm: Pattern ‘autofs’ doesn’t match any instances
    devfsadm
devfsadm: mkdir failed for /dev 0s1ed: Read-only file system
    mkdir /mnt
mkdir: Failed to make directory “/mnt”; Read-only file systemPart of the problem is due to the current READ ONLY filesystems which does not allow the creation of mount point such as /mnt.
I have been able to create both / root (/dev/dsk/c1t0d0s0) and /export/home (/dev/dsk/c1t0d0s0) filesystems with newfs that are awaiting for restore using ufsrestore.
The only option I am left with is to attach a secondary disk to install Solaris 10 on either of them before bring the system to multi-user mode so that service such as volmgt, autofs, volfs are available to access USB & CDROM drives.
Any suggestion on how to resolve this issue?
    Many thanks,
    Jack

    Hi JKGN,
Is the directory a located under the root filesystem. ie /a? Are there any other mount point for say USB drive as well? I am not in a position to try it out right now but will get back
to you soon on whether /a exist or not.
Btw, the last thing I managed to do on this system at the time was added a secondary 1TB internal disk with the intention to restore both / and /export/home data onto this disk while
making use of all the disk device management services such as the following services only available in a fully installed Solaris system (both single & multi-user modes) installed on the
    primary disk:

As a result, I am left with no option but the need to rebuild this system with only a single primary disk while in single user mode. However, the single user mode that I am in is the
one from Solaris installation disk with restrictive (_cannot create folder for mount point or running disk management utilities_) capability such as those services just covered, compared to one from a completed Solaris installation system with full access to all filesystems and utilities / commands in general.
I would very much value your assistance on how to mount both CD & USB in this restrictive limited Read Only OS (assume that it is running from memory) in order to get complete access to
the blank primary disk so that full restore with ufsrestore could take place.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jack

  • Large page sizes on Solaris 9

I am trying (and failing) to utilize large page sizes on a Solaris 9 machine.
    # uname -a
    SunOS machinename.lucent.com 5.9 Generic_112233-11 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Blade-1000
I am using as my reference "Supporting Multiple Page Sizes in the Solaris Operating System" http://www.sun.com/blueprints/0304/817-6242.pdf
    and
"Taming Your Emu to Improve Application Performance (February 2004)"
    http://www.sun.com/blueprints/0204/817-5489.pdf
The machine claims it supports 4M page sizes:
    # pagesize -a
    8192
    65536
    524288
    4194304
I've written a very simple program:
    main()
    int sz = 10*1024*1024;
    int x = (int)malloc(sz);
    print_info((void**)&x, 1);
    while (1) {
    int i = 0;
    while (i < (sz/sizeof(int))) {
    x[i++]++;
I run it specifying a 4M heap size:
    # ppgsz -o heap=4M ./malloc_and_sleep
address 0x21260 is backed by physical page 0x300f5260 of size 8192
pmap also shows it has an 8K page:
    pmap -sx `pgrep malloc` | more
    10394: ./malloc_and_sleep
Address Kbytes RSS Anon Locked Pgsz Mode Mapped File

    00400000 6288 6288 6288 - 8K rwx-- [ heap ]
(The last 2 lines above show about 10M of heap, with a pgsz of 8K.)
    I'm running this as root.
In addition to the ppgsz approach, I have also tried using memcntl and mmap'ing ANON memory (and others). Memcntl gives an error for 2MB page sizes, but reports success with a 4MB page size - but still, pmap reports the memcntl'd memory as using an 8K page size.

  • PDF font problem on Solaris (Reports9i)

    Hi.
We are recently moving our application from 9ias Release 1 to 9ias Relese 2. After several configuration problems I was managet to get most of it to running, but encountered big problem with Reports. In Reports6i we used font aliasing, and included several modified fonts with AcrobatReader3. With AcrobatReader5 it's not posible because of more strict checking of PDF standard.
Then of course with Reports9i we start using PDF font subsetting. After added several ttf's (Arial, Courier New, Times New Roman) it started working fine with one exception. Report created with plain Courier New 10pts is not subsetted - in pdf i receive fixed-bold 12 pts.
It happening only with this one size of font. Courier New with size 10 pts and bold or italic looks good. When I change size to 9 or 11 pts - it's ok. I've checked if fonts existed in Xserver - they are.
I double checked uifont.ali - it's ok. I've temporarily solved the problem by changing font in builder on Windows from Courier New to Courier (same size), and then everything works ok. Of course it might be solving - but for the amount of work (about 200 reports) I'm looking for more 'normal' solution.
    Any ideas?
Reports server working on Sun Sparc Solaris 5.8, 9ias Release 2 (Patch 2).
Builder works on WindowsXP, 9ids Release 2 (Patch2).
    Czesiek.

Reports 6 or Reports 9? Note that Reports 6 does not generate
syntactically correct RTF for Unicode characters.
We've been running with a postprocessor to correct the RTF and
to change the Oracle-set font to Arial; I'll be watching to see if
there's a better way since our postprocessor shouldn't be needed.

  • Solaris 10 x86 NetVista A40i 6578PBU

I've installed Solaris 10 6 times now, each with a different set of error situations. I'm requesting a new/overwrite install each time. The machine is in the hcl. My major problems:
    1) Network connected ... occasionally: iprb0
The network sometimes works, sometimes not. In my first install, I manually configured /etc/ files to make it work. dhcp does not seem to help; manual config seems to skip over or omit key prompts (like domain name).
During some install options, I get messages like:
    unable to run /usr/sbin/sysidput
    see /var/sadm/system/logs
    unable to configure iprb0
If I unplug/replug the network cable, the kernel recognizes these changes, but I can't even ping my own IP address. localhost pings fine.
    2) X refuses to start. I don't understand this one. X was configured and working properly during install, then fails on reboot with messages like:
    agp gart support not available
How would I resolve that? This is Intel i815 with Compaq TFT5000 (CPQ1341).
    3) Screwy colors during install. turquoise on violet?
It made me think my video was not recognized, but eventually reverted to "normal" colors.
    4) Do not try to install using a KVM switch.
Tried this ... keyboard and mouse were not picked up correctly, so X refused to start. But the X installer worked fine.
    5) X installer. Why don't you auto focus the cursor.
The window starts, without a mouse cursor in the window, so keyboard isn't recognized. This is a single user install program ... just move the focus.
    6) "Error has occurred during configuration, backup"
When I do that on the network config screens, Java blows up.
    7) The transition from CD to CD is flawed. The pop-up window telling you to change CD's obscures the progress window. There is plenty of screen real estate ... don't cover things up.
    8) During one install, the gui wasn't chosen, and the character prompt program did not recognize any of the CD's. It would be helpful to use the same external description of the CD's that the internal programs are requesting. I had to cancel the install, and start again.
    9) During one install, the auto-eject of CD's following disc1 somehow got confused, the machine rebooted, and got an error "cannot read fdisk table".
I powered off/on, and the install proceeded correctly.

Part of the problem of documenting these failures is the lack of network support. I don't know how to transfer config and log information back to my machine for analysis.
    - How do I write this info to a floppy disk?
Here are the relevant files for the X startup failure that I was able to capture when the network was working.

  • Sendmail broken from Solaris 10 11/06 to Solaris 10 8/07 - port 25 broken

I am in the process of building a new solaris 10 8/07 server to replace a solaris 10 11/06 server. Both are running.
Sendmail on both has changes limited to:
correcting /etc/hosts to include mailhost entry
dns server pointing to localhost as mailhost
    local-host-names set on each
aliases set up and newaliases run
Otherwise, the configuration files are standard and both are running the as shipped main.cf.
svcadm enable -r network/smtp seems to work fine and the services show as enabled
The 11/06 server has run fine for close to a year.
The 8/07 server has mconnect work fine to localhost but I get connection denied when I try to come in via the ip number.
TCP Wrappers are not running, but even then I have hosts.allow set with lots of variations of ALL: ALL.
    No errors in /var/log/syslog.
How do I figure out what is happening on the port and why it is not connecting?
    # mconnect localhost
connecting to host localhost (127.0.0.1), port 25
    connection open
    220 mailhost.molten-rock.com ESMTP Sendmail 8.13.8+Sun/8.13.8; Sun, 4 Nov 2007 16:44:25 +1300 (NZDT)
    # mconnect magma
connecting to host magma (192.168.25.250), port 25
    connect: Connection refused
    # uname -a
    SunOS magma 5.10 Generic_127112-02 i86pc i386 i86pc
    # svcs | grep smtp
    online 15:45:50 svc:/network/smtp:sendmail

Thanks, but had found a previous discussion with this hint and applied it.
svccfg -s sendmail listprop shows config /local_only = false
Yes, I would really love to fix the fault, but what I would really like is some hints as to how to debug ports under svc control.

  • Sendmail MTA on Solaris 10

I have been banging my head against the wall with this for several weeks now. I am trying to setup Solaris 10 mail clients and server. What I would like to do is have all my Solaris (10) systems send to one Solaris 10 mailhost (alias is mailsrv). That host will then resolve local addresses or send to other destinations (to the outside world or our Barracuda and on to Exchange) via definitions in the local aliases file or just pass it on if it can not determine it.
I have the clients working with the following cf file:
    OSTYPE(`solaris8')
    DOMAIN(`solaris-generic')
    DAEMON_OPTIONS(`Port=smtp,Addr=127.0.0.1, Name=MTA')
    FEATURE(`msp', `[mailsrv]')
However, the MTA will not allow the mail to come in. I have set the local_only property via:
    svccfg -s svc:/network/smtp:sendmail setprop config/local_only=false
    My MC file contains this:
    OSTYPE(`solaris8')
    DOMAIN(`solaris-generic')
    DAEMON_OPTIONS(`Port=smtp, Name=MTA')
    CwMyDomain.com
    MASQUERADE_AS(`MyDomain.com')
    FEATURE(`masquerade_envelope')
    FEATURE(`masquerade_entire_domain')
    FEATURE(`always_add_domain')
    FEATURE(`relay_entire_domain')
    FEATURE(`allmasquerade')
    MASQUERADE_DOMAIN(`MyDomain.com')
    define(`LUSER_RELAY', `mailfilter.MyDomain.com')
    MAILER(`local')
    MAILER(`smtp')
This config works perfectly to deliver mail to the local user or pass it on to the outside world or Barracuda/Exchange. However, it will not accept mail from another Solaris host. SMTP is running:
    %netstat -a | grep smt
    *.smtp *.* 0 0 49152 0 LISTEN
I can telnet to port 25 from another machine and actually send a valid email via SMTP commands. I can even send to it from my Exchange server. It just won't allow sendmail to talk to it from another host. The mail just sits in the queue:
    %mailq
    /var/spool/clientmqueue (1 request)
    -----Q-ID----- Size -----Q-Time----- ------------Sender/Recipient-----------
    o5FHjjBL004148 5 Tue Jun 15 13:45 root
    (Deferred: Connection refused by mailsrv.MyDomain.com.)
    MyEmailAddress
    Total requests: 1
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Jim

So far it is happening for root. What do you suggest I do to fix it?
Below is an example of what I have been seeing. If you look at "To", you will see where the problem is..."relay" should not be there. The host name should not be there either as the masquerading configuration is set up. Something is causing "relay" to appear and I cant seem to find what it is.

I am using Solaris 10 . rmformat output is:

I could not mount my pendrive. Please give any solution

    Hi
I would first make sure pen drive is not formatted NTFS (if you are normally a Windows person) as you will not get anywhere with that. If you format FAT32 (OK for 4GB sticks) I have found it to work on SPARC, don't use Intel so don't know in that case.

  • DNS and Static IP Address Question on Solaris v10 X86

Ive recently installed Solaris v10 X86 and have two questions. The system is a Dell E521 with 4GB RAM and 1GB SysKonnect NIC, and internet is provided via a cable modem, thats plugged into a Netgear router, and the Solaris 10 box is plugged into the Netgear router via a CAT5 ethernet cable.
    1. I can connect to my router login page using the following URL:
http://192.168.1.1/start.htm and I can also connect to various web pages such as yahoo, if I first "ping yahoo.com" (on another machine thats internet enabled) and then plug the web sites ip address into the Solaris/Mozilla browser. So it appears that I havent been successful at pointing the Solaris x86 at a DNS server to resolve the DNS name.
    2. I've purchased a commercially available software package and it requires a static ip address for this Solaris x86 server. If the ip address changes, itll stop working by design and require that I reacquire the license file. When connecting through this Netgear router, how do I lock this Solaris v10 x86 server into a specific ip address? (the ip address floats presently when cycling my PCs on/off) presently, and assume the Solaris box will too, usually through an ip range of 192.168.1.<1 through 5>

    pci1022,1100
The NIC is a SysKonnect 9821 1GB Ethernet card. The drivers in Solaris 10 were apparently very old and didn't install drivers or configure/plumb when I installed Solaris 10, so I downloaded the
latest drivers (hard to find!), followed the instructions and got the NIC drivers installed and then plumbed.
My router's ip address appears to be 192.168.1.1 and in one of the articles I've read, there is a recommendation to create a file (touch) within /etc named defaultrouter and enter the router's ip address. I did this, and the file now contains:
    192.168.1.1
I also read where another file called resolv.conf needed to be pointed to a DNS server, which in this case, according to my Netgear router, and according to ipconfig/all on another WinBox on the same network, also shows the same 192.168.1.1 address for the DNS, so I created that file too (wasn't there) and it contains:
    nameserver 192.168.1.1
There is a host name file called hostname.skge0 and it contains one line:
    INTHOST
There is a hosts file, and it contains:
    127.0.0.1 localhost loghost homex86
    192.168.1.3 INTHOST
There is a netmasks file, and other than the commented out lines, it appears to contain one relevant line:
    192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0
There is a nsswitch.conf file and other than the commented out lines, it contains:
    passwd: files
    group: files
    hosts: files
    ipnodes: files
    networks: files
    protocols: files
    rpc: files

    printers: user files
    auth_attr: files
    prof_attr: files
    project: files
    tnrhtp: files
    tnrhdb: files
    There is an nsswitch.dns file:
    passwd: files
    group: files
    ipnodes: files dns
    networks: files
    protocols: files
    rpc: files
    ethers: files
    netmasks: files
    bootparams: files

    auth_attr: files
    prof_attr: files

    tnrhdb: files
Finally, I've also seen some advice using the folling command (and I tried it):
"route add default 192.168.1.1" as an alternative method of setting up route table
The only other command I've tried is:
"ifconfig skge0 192.168.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 up" but I suspect that was redundant as the plumb command I used to get the NIC functioning earlier probably already provided what was needed.
Finally, on this small network, I ran an ipconfig/all on a Windows based PC, to see what network settings were reported through the wireless connection, and this is an excerpt of that information:
    C:\Documents and Settings\mark_burke>ipconfig/all

Ive recently installed Solaris v10 X86 and have two
questions. The system is a Dell E521 with 4GB RAM
and 1GB SysKonnect NIC, and internet is provided via
a cable modem, thats plugged into a Netgear router,
and the Solaris 10 box is plugged into the Netgear
router via a CAT5 ethernet cable.
    1. I can connect to my router login page using the
    following URL:
http://192.168.1.1/start.htm and I can also connect
to various web pages such as yahoo, if I first "ping
yahoo.com" (on another machine thats internet
enabled) and then plug the web sites ip address into
the Solaris/Mozilla browser. So it appears that I
havent been successful at pointing the Solaris x86
at a DNS server to resolve the DNS name. You can either copy nsswitch.dns to nsswitch.conf, or you can modify nsswitch.conf so that 'dns' is used for hostname lookups.
    2. I've purchased a commercially available software
package and it requires a static ip address for this
Solaris x86 server. If the ip address changes, itll
stop working by design and require that I reacquire
the license file. When connecting through this
Netgear router, how do I lock this Solaris v10 x86
server into a specific ip address? (the ip address
floats presently when cycling my PCs on/off)
presently, and assume the Solaris box will too,
usually through an ip range of 192.168.1.<1 through
5>One method is setting the router so that the server's MAC address is tied to a specific IP.
Otherwise you can edit /etc/hostname.<interface> and place a static address there, forgoing DHCP services from the router. You may want the address to appear outside the router's DHCP range.

  • ~/.forward problem on Solaris 2.5.1

I've developed a program that is kicked off by receiving an e-mail from another system and am using the ~/.forward file to start my program.
    My ~/.forward file looks like:
    \jtw, "| /apps/tpg/bin/parse_mail"
When I received mail from the system that is supposed to start my program, I get the message in my mail reader, but my program is not started. If I create a new message and send it to myself with the contents of the original message, it works!
I'm using Solaris 2.5.1. When I issue the '/usr/lib/sendmail -d0.1 -bt </dev/null' command I get the following output:
    Version 8.8.8+Sun
Compiled with LOG MATCHGECOS MIME7TO8 MIME8TO7 NAMED_BIND NDBM NETINIT NETUNIX NIS NISPLUS QUEUE SCANF SMTP XDEBUG
    ===========SYSTEM IDENTITY (after readcf)========
    (short domain name) $w=ultra-05
    (canonical domain name) $s=ultra-05
    (subdomain name) $m=<null>
    (node name) $k=ultra-05
Also, the system that is sending the e-mail to me is addressing me as: ULTRA-05@<IPAddress>
I've created the /etc/mail/sendmail.cw file with the entry for <IP Address> and added an entry in /etc/mail/aliases of 'ultra-05:jtw' so that it gets to my actual user account "jtw".
I've been struggling with this for weeks and figure out why I I can send the message to myself, but can't receive it from the other system (BTW: the other system is Win2k, if that makes a difference).
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. If you need more info, I'll be glad to provide it, just tell me what you want.
    Thanks,
    Tim Anderson

    Follow on Information:
I looked in /var/spool/mqueue and found several qf and df files. One of the df files contained the following:
    This is a MIME-encapsulated message
    --PAA16295.1027204109/ultra-05
The original message was received (date & time omitted) from [transmitter's IP address]
---The following addresses had permanent fatal errors-----
    "| /apps/tpg/bin/parse_mail"
    (expanded from: jtw)
    ----Transcript of session follows-------
    sh: /apps/tpg/bin/parse_mail : cannot execute

    --PAA16295.1027204109/ultra-05

I have already tested that I can run the parse_mail program from sh and it works fine.

    Hi All,
Looks like it was a driver / incompatibility / unsupported issue since 2 other much smaller USB keys (Lexar USB Flash Drive – 32GB, SanDisk Cruzer Colors – 4GB) were successfully mounted automatically by volfs service as follows:
    # df -h
Filesystem             size   used  avail capacity  Mounted on
    /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s0      5.1G   4.0G   1.1G    78%    /

/vol/dev/dsk/c2t0d0/unnamed_rmdisk:c    29G    96K    29G     1%    /rmdisk/unnamed_rmdiskIt also appears that the Device status of Not Ready from “iostat –En” below may not be correct either since both smaller drives are working fine:

It is necessary to install additional driver that came with the disk on Windows XP platform. However,
