SOLUTION! TO ACTIVATION NIGHTMARE

The guy who posted the reboot thread on here was correct. It worked!
Here's what we did:
1. Unplug phone from dock and turn it completely off (hold dn power button on top, & slide red slider).
2.Unplug dock from computer.
3. Quit iTunes, shut computer down.
4. Reboot computer
5. Turn on phone, plug it into dock, then LAST, plug USB from dock into computer.
2 minutes & it was working ! After 18 hours waiting !
(I think the original guy who posted this was named Frank - not trying to steal thunder- just want to help)

I am an existing Cingular customer. I've been waiting for activiation since 7am this morning.
I've spoke to both cingular and Apple and they say it is because of computer overload and that phones are getting activated as fast as they are able to.
I believe that this is out of mine (and everyone else's control) and when the Cingular system is able to process the activation, it will happen.
I'm disappointed but not surprised that there's a glitch. i'm sure it'll get worked out in the next day or so.
I just want to play with my iPHONE!
Imagine the poor suckers who stood in line for 3 days and aren't able to activate there phones??!!

  • IPhone 4S activation NIGHTMARE, Apple problem, not AT&T

Got new iPhone 4S delivered on release day (Friday, Oct 14).  Activated without problem.  On Sunday, it quit working except when connected to wall charger.
On Monday, called AppleCare, hardware failure was problem.  Had choice to pay $29 for them to immediately send me another one, or, they would send me a box to mail in my broken iPhone, then they would send me a repaired or replacement iPhone 4S.  Opted for latter.  Drove 40 miles to AT&T store to get new SIM card for old iPhone 3GS, activated it in store.  Got shipping box for 1st iPhone 4S on Tuesday, mailed on Tuesday.  Got replacement iPhone 4S on Thursday, late in day.  Replacement was quick, no complaints.
Nightmare Friday:  ready to activate replacement iPhone 4S, about 5:00 PM called AT&T Business from my office phone to activate, had obtained IMEI & SIM card nos. from screen on new iPhone 4S.  I noticed, however, that the IMEI no. on the phone was different from the IMEI no. shown on the shipping box that replacement iPhone 4S came in.  Initially, the process went smooth until the time came for phone to actually activate.  It wouldn't.
After going through initial menu on iPhone to activate, I end up with message:  Device unknown   This iPhone is not recognized and cannot be activated for service.  Please visit your nearest Apple Store for more information.  The closest Apple Store for me is over 110 miles away.
Connected replacement iPhone 4S to MacBook Pro.  In iTunes, I get the following message:  There is a problem with your iPhone.  We're sorry, the iPhone you connected is not recognized and cannot be activated for service.  We recommend you visit your nearest Apple Store for more information.  To find your nearest Apple Store, click here.
I'm still on the call with AT&T.  They transfer call to AppleCare tech support.  Verified IMEI no. and SIM card no. off of the SIM card tray.  Technician advises that the IMEI no. is not in his system.  We figured out that this IMEI no. did not match the number on my shipping box.  Verified the serial no. from the SIM card tray, technician never advised me whether that number was in his system, but it also did not match the serial no. shown on shipping box.  We tried the hard reset procedure twice, same results and messages.  We tried to get it to work with the old SIM card from my 1st iPhone 4S, same results and messages.  Technician brought AT&T guy into the phone call.  Verified and re-verified all of these nos. several times, from the iPhone 4S screen and from the bottom of the SIM card tray, although I had to find a magnifying glass to see the numbers clearly, they are very small.  The AT&T guy repeatedly related that there appeared to be no problems on his end.  I was getting a cellular signal with 3G, which apparently was able to attempt activation over cellular airwaves.  Also tried activation over my wi-fi network and through iTunes.  We were on hold for what seemed forever while technician tried to figure out the problem.
During the call, I received several calls from family wondering what in the he[ck] I was doing and why I wasn't home yet to grill steaks!  This procedure should not have taken longer than 10-15 minutes, but it ended up lasting 3 hours and 10 minutes.  The call ended when I got another call from home and I forgot to hit the HOLD button for the call to AT&T/AppleCare tech when I answered the other line.  I opted to go home.  Steaks are still marinating, we ate McDonalds.  Had an e-mail from the technician, left him a voice mail, I think he went home.
Later this evening, logged onto my Apple account which showed my registered products by serial no.  They have listed my initial iPhone 4S which I sent in.  They also have listed another iPhone 4S with the serial no. shown on the shipping box, which is inconsistent with the serial no. shown on the bottom of the SIM card tray of the replacement iPhone 4S.  I initially tried to create a Support Case No. online using the serial no. from the iPhone, not the box.  Was quickly given message that that serial no. was not valid.
So, I find myself again with an inoperable iPhone 4S on a weekend and the only option to get my old iPhone 3GS activated again is to drive 40 miles to the AT&T store to get another SIM card.  With no prospects for getting an operable iPhone 4S any time soon, the nightmare continues.
I have been a dedicated user of Apple computers and products (iPods, iPhone, iPads et al as they came out) for over 20 years.  Never have I experienced a nightmare of this magnitude until now.  Up until today, I would never have considered the thought of being on the negative side of Apple's top-rated customer satisfaction.
One can only hope that someone in AppleCare Tech Support with the authority to resolve such problems reads these boards AND is willing to look into this without delay (like before our steak dinner Saturday evening).  Are you listening (reading)???

NIGHTMARE Finally Ends, after nearly two weeks.
After trying for over a week trying to get my replacement iPhone 4S to activate, I ended up driving 110+ miles to an Apple Store to get a second replacement, which had been specially shipped there for me.  Popped in the SIM card, went through the setup and I finally have an iPhone 4S that works, at least for the time being.
Advice to others who find themselves in this situation:
         1)     If you get these messages (see original post), the phone is bad.  Demand a replacement.
         2)     If the AppleCare tech advises that the Apple Agreement Administration team is investigating, you'll be waiting for a week or more for them to complete it.  Demand a replacement immediately, don't let them put you off indefinitely.
After the initial phone call documented in my original post, I was in daily contact, phone & e-mail, with the AppleCare tech trying to figure out the problem, and we tried everything, from forced restore's to switching SIM cards, conferencing w/ AT&T, etc.  It seems that this was a case of first impression to Apple, but if it wasn't, then the problem is not well documented or known by those who should know, and for that, the blame should be on Apple, not the AppleCare tech who worked tirelessly trying to figure out a solution--I'd send him a case of beer if I knew where to send it.

  • BT Activation Nightmare...

First time poster to one of these forums as I have just about exhausted all other possibilties of getting my broadband turned on and have no hope that the issue is going to be solved.
So I signed up for BT broadband on the 2nd December and was set an activation date of the 10th and that this could be any time up until midnight on that day. My wireless hub arrived first thing that morning and I set it up and set about waiting. About 2.30pm the internet came on whilst I was upstairs on my computer and I proceeded to surf the web and test the speed. About 20-30 minutes later the internet suddenly cut off and I assumed that this was the 'speed testing' I had read about and BT were just testing the line to see what was the maximum it could take. Little did I know that I would still have no internet access almost three weeks later.
I waited until the next morning to phone BT and was put through to a call centre (in India) where I was informed that there was a problem at the local exchange and I would be without internet until the 17th (my new activation date) when the problem would be solved. I tried to explain that I did have internet for a short period of time but the lady wasn't interested in this and seemed very confident that I would have to wait until the 17th for the issue to be rectified. I was obviously annoyed at this but since I was going on holiday for the rest of that week I wasn't too bothered and expected to come back home to an internet connection.
When I arrived back on Wednesday 19th I was shocked to find that the internet was still not working despite this new activation date having passed. I called BT and was told that my internet would '100% be on the next day' and a poor 'you can't possibly understand what we're doing' type answer when I asked what the problem was. What really dissapointed me about this conversation was that there was no reference to the fact it was meant to be turned on on Monday and no mention of them giving me a call to give me a status update. This is when I started to get suspicious and what do you know Thursday comes and goes with no internet and no phone call/email from BT to tell me what went wrong.
I phoned again and was given a new date of the 23rd. Again no success. Phoned again and this time it's the 28th. I even drove past the exchange which is just down the road from us and saw a BT van parked up there and the gates open so I knew someone was working there- come the 28th, no internet. During this time I've been through the complaints department, evaluation team...you name it, and probably up to four hours on the phone. Still no resolution and no real explanation as to what is going on, what's the problem, if and when it can actually be fixed. I've had the phone put down on me several times whilst asking for employees names/reference number for conversations. The customer service here has been absolutely awful and I just do not know what to do anymore. I feel every time I get set a new date I'll just wait the whole day again only to find that there is still no internet. I've spoken to people who have told me they'd call me back/in the morning to let me know what's happening- evey time so far I've been let down. I've been given hotspot access but I'm not in a hotspot, I've been sent dongles that need me to pay to top them up! It's absolutely unbelievable and a complete and utter disgrace. The current update is that it's being looked at again on the 31st (New Years Eve)! I tried explaining to the guy on the phone that not much gets done in the UK on this date but there were having none of it.
The worst thing is that it's costing me time in phoning them up and really having the drag the information out of them each time I do so. At this rate I'm going to be sitting here in February with no internet whilst still listening to the same excuses from them on the phone. What's more alarming is that the day before we moved in to this new house the previous owners still had an active BT broadband connection. Everyone else in our street is also with BT, it's just our house they can't seem to get working!

  • Possible solution to activation: what worked for me after 24 hrs of waiting

So I was in the same boat as everyone else thats waiting.
Let me describe my account and if it sounds like you, this will probably work for you as well.
I am an existing Cingular customer with an old Cingular plan. I also had a corporate discount which made my account a "business" account.
I went thru the activation and got the "more time is needed" screen everyone is staring at.
I then called the phone # thats listed in the big thread (the iphone activation #) and got them to cancel my activation. I went to the AT&T store and picked up a new sim card. I also called AT&T and switched my plan to a normal AT&T plan and had them remove the corporate discount (since it doesn't work on iPhones anyway) and also made them change the account into an individual account and completely remove all association with a business account.
After all this was finished, I tried to activate again and got an error saying my new plan isn't valid for an iPhone (not verbatim) it listed two #s to calls, 1 is for business customers and 1 is for regular iPhone activation. If you get this message, it means your previous rep that you told to remove the business account failed to do his job. Call the business line(866-907-3484), explain your situation and that you want the "BMG" association removed and you're stuck on it saying you don't have a valid plan for an iPhone. They know the issue, there is no run around with them. They will fix your account and stay on the phone with you as you go past that step, get to the end of your activation and your phone WILL be activated within that 3 minutes.
Getting a new SIM card isn't necessary as long as you cancel the current activation. That is a MUST! You will get an e-mail letting you know your activation is canceled.
Good luck! Wish I wouldve known this information from the beginning it would've saved me a day!

Thank you so much for sharing this. I have tried for 24 hours to get my iPand was told by ATT that there was just no way that my business account could be changed until Monday. I followed your instructions, called the business line(866-907-3484) and got it to work last night.
    Thank you again!

  • Activation Nightmare

I have Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro after I had issues with Adobe acrobat 8 Pro not working right with Vista. I have installed 9 onto my work laptop and PC. Last month i closed down the business and sold off the work computers. Prior to doing so I deleted all the software and brought the harddrives back to factory condition. I just installed 9 on my home computer and it tells me that I didn't deactivate my other versions.
I tried calling customer service and was on hold for about 80 minutes before i gave up.
I have 30 days to deactivate the 2 installs which will be impossible to do as the computers are wiped clean. I can't even seem to email customer support. What do i do now?   I never heard of a software company not giving you the freedom to use your own product. Should i try to find a torrent copy? I have always had legal copies of my software and NEVER abuse the licenses.
Hopefully adobe will see this and figure out a way to help. I might have to rethink my purchase decision when I buy dreamweaver, photoshop, etc for my websites as frontpage is getting a little outdated.
    Can someone please help!!

Unfortunately no one here can help with activation issues. You'll need to be persistent with customer service.
If it's any consolation, Adobe realizes that they have CS issues and the VP of Technical Services has issued a statement.

  • Activation nightmare - SIM card mess

I just purchased 2 new phones for a family plan. Activating the first was a snap. When I tried to activate the second, I get a rather vague message that itunes cannot activate and I must call ATT. After 2 hours on the phone (rep says it is the longest activation call he's ever had to deal with) I finally get through the activation process.
Now I get the dreaded "bad SIM card" message. Rep says to take it to an ATT store and get another card. Now I can't wait to get interrogated about hacking the new phone.
Finally I pop out the SIM card and +*IT HAS A SMUDGE ON IT*+. There is some kind of gunk on the "brand new" SIM card. I remove it with some saliva and my shirt and the phone now works!
Used card? Some dolt at the factory spilled some coffee? Who knows. Of course I'm probably the only one this happens to.

As this is a user technical support forum, do you have a question for us?

  • Activation Nightmare, new(ish) Sim, Someone elses phone number

First of all, I love my phone. I hope I love it as much after using it. After over 30 hours of phone time with ATT and APPLE, and a phone that would not restore factory settings after so many attempts to activate, an Apple employee put a Sim card in my phone that he referred to as coming from a phone that was DOA. hmmm. Well 4 hours later, the phone finally did work, but now ATT said the number that they assigned me, belongs to someone else!! I don't even know if this phone will work proper or not. I have tried a few things, but my biggest problem right now besides exhaustion, is how to back out of the internet. I don't seem to be able to sign off once I'm in. I have to turn the phone off to get out. Any suggestions?

    Hi Bex303

  • More than one solution active ?

    Hello Everyone,
I have some enhancements to Opportunity, Accounts and Activity. These enhancements are part of different solutions. That is, Opportunity Extensions are part of one solution, Accounts extensions are part of another and activity in another. When I log-in to the UI, I only see extensions related the last activated solution all other extensions from other solutions are not visible. Can only one solution be active at a time or is there a way I can make all enhancements made in all solutions visible.

  • Any one with solution ipad 3 not activating

solution to activation error ipad 3 not activating

    Howdy petndemi,
It sounds like you are unable to activate your iPad after updating it. I recommend the troubleshooting steps in the followng article, named:
    Get help activating your iPhone
If your carrier provided a SIM card, make sure it's in your iPhone.
    Restart the iPhone.
Try to reach the activation server another way, then try to activate.
Try connecting to a known-good Wi-Fi network if you can't activate using a cellular data connection.
Try connecting to iTunes if you can't activate using Wi-Fi.
    Restore the iPhone.
Check the system status for iOS Device Activation. If the iOS Device Activation status isn't green, try activating your iPhone later.
If you receive an alert message when you try to activate your iPhone, place the iPhone in recovery mode and perform a restore. If you still can't complete the setup assistant due to an activation error, contact Apple for assistance.
If you're asked to enter a password to proceed with activating the iPhone, Activation Lock might be enabled as part of Find my iPhone.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • Is SSAS the right tool for my active data monitoring?

I'm looking for a solution for actively monitoring many millions of records for abnormalities in data trends.  I'm familiar with warehouses, star and snowflake schemas, all of that good stuff.  I'm really interested in SSAS as the front end tool
or any other Microsoft tool that may lay on top of it.
I have a ton of client databases, all with nearly identical structure, which have data loaded to them weekly or monthly.  I want to automatically monitor this data when it's loaded (when new records are added to the database, basically).  I would
assume that this would be done through processing a cube periodically - I can trigger a reprocessing of the cube programmatically or whatever. I want to automatically get some kind of alerts when individual metrics that I have defined are outside of a threshold
that I have defined (one field as a percentage of another, a standard deviation range as compared to previous months, etc).
I have something like this in place already, but it's all home grown and becoming a maintenance nightmare.  We want to expand it to other areas, add more metrics to monitor, etc etc.  If there's a product out there (ideally SSAS which I already
own a license for) that makes this more manageable that would be fantastic.
Any other information you might be able to provide - articles, other product information, companion products, other tools, whatever - would be greatly appreciated also!  Thanks!

    Hi Mateoc,
In your scenario, you said that you have a ton of client databases, all with nearly identical structure,
so you can use SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) to load the data to Data Warehouse. Then create a SQL Server Analysis Services Multidimensional database using this data warehouse as the data source.
SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) Multidimensional model is used when having large amount of data with complex requirements. In order to improve query performance, there will be a cube doing heavy time-consuming processing and then synchronize it
    to query cubes.

  • Loading a solution from 365 to 2013 doesn't work

    Hello,
I'm facing a strange issue here. I have a site in sharepoint 365 and I wanted to load it on a local sharepoint 2013.
So I've saved the site as template, saved it on my computer, loaded it to the solution gallery, activated it and... nothing.
When I've tried to create a new site - I didn't get the custom tab with the solution name in it.
I've tried it on a different machine with sharepoint 2013 - and after activating the solution I DID see the custom tab with my solution when I tried to create a new site.
The 2 major differences between the machines that I've spotted were:
    1. Both the sharepoint 365 and the working sharepoint 2013 were in Hebrew. The one that didn't work was in English.
    2. The sharepoint 2013 that did work had a license, the one that didn't work is an evaluation version.
Does anyone have a clue why can't I see my solution on my evaluation sharepoint 2013?
    Thanks in advance,
    Barak

    That's strange.
I WAS able to see my solution, and to activate it (on the licensed version).
When I tried to create the subsite I did encounter some problems regarding the features that were not activated, but when I googled  - I came across this article -
    http://sharepoint-community.net/profiles/blogs/office-365-on-premise-sharepoint-2013-web-templates-and-features
Which refers to the problem I was facing and explained how to solve it (I didn't pursue it because I didn't need the solution to work on this env. but on the second one).

  • ThinkVantage Active Protection System Dissapeared after Win 8.1 Upgrade

The ThinkVantage Active Protection System dissapeared from my ThinkPads after upgrading to Win 8.1.
I was going to reinstall it from the Lenovo ThinkVantage page but the Win 8 64bit version is not available for download.
Oddly enough, the 32bit version is available.
Is this a temporary situation?  Will there be a Win 8.1 version?
Can someone from Lenovo explain what to expect?

  • Two earlywatch reports for same instance in one Solution manager

    Hi
i am trying to create two solutons for early watch reports for same instance. let me explain here.
In SAP Solution Manager: Active Solutions  >>> i have two solutions like this
    Solution                                                          Early Watch Alert Reports
Avnet Global Solutions         >>>> here i have configured the PR1, PB1 PCB instances
    PR1                                      >>>>>here i configured the only PR1 instance.
so i have configured the same instance in two solutions.
i am not gettting the early watch report automatically  after after configuring like this . but manually working fine.
when i kick of the report manually working fine.
here my question is ... do i can create two early watch reports in one solution manage for same instance or not.  if yes then why i am not getting report automatically.
    Thank you
    Vish

    Dear Paul,
    Thank you for your response
this is what i got from SAP.
    Hello Vish,
You can have the same system in different solutions. With regards
to why the report is not generating automatically, please review
    SDCCN on the satellite system.
I dialed into the system and found that the SDCCN for PB1 is not
downloading the sessions from Solution Manager.
I would recommend that you deactivate and then activate SDCCN.
Tcode SDCCN -> GoTo - Settings - Task Processor - Deactivate
    Tcode SDCCN ->Utilities -> Activate
Then create a Refresh Session task and verify if the upcoming sessions
are getting pulled down to PB1.
If you need help with this, please let me know if it is fine with you
if I make the necessary changes to get the system working.
Thank you in advance and best regards,
