[SOLVED] Bug with GTK apps - Icons didn't render correctly

Hello.
I had been experiencing a strange behaviour of GTK apps at one of my arch systems lately - Icons didn't render correctly (screens attached).
It was not critical for work but frustrating enough. Especially in firefox (notice the half-rendered formulas).
It took me quite some time to figure out that this behaviour was caused by a line
"Xft.rgba:1 "
in my .Xdefaults config. After I commented it out the bug disappeared.
Qt apps were not affected by this.
Besides, on my second arch system it didn't cause any trouble.
So, I'm not sure whether it is a bug or not.
If it is, I'm not sure whether the problem is on my side, in package or upstream.
I've decided to post it just in case somebody experience something similar.
Libs versions are:
gtk2 2.24.22-1
gtk3 3.10.6-1
gtkmm 2.24.4-1
gtkmm3 3.10.0-1
The bug was also present in:
gtk2 2.24.20-1
gtk3 3.8.2-1
gtkmm 2.24.4-1
gtkmm3 3.8.1-1

Thanks for the replies guys! For the record it's when I click a window in say lxterminal or pidgin it opens in firefox. I'll take a look through the links you posted and see if I can get it working!

I've a "bug" with the apps downloading. This one stops at the end and stays like that infinite. The app doesn't appears normally on the homescreen. The app is on the home screen, and its downloading is blocked at its end, without showing the app like it should when it's finished downloadung. Does someone can help me and fix this please?

    Hi Tom
    Thanks for replying!
I had heard that these switches didn't stack unless everything was identical.
I only tried it at all out of pure desperation.
I've applied and tested every version 3 firmware in standalone mode via a console cable and xmodem.
They either never come up properly receiving decompression errors and reboot constantly in a loop.
Occasionally they stall / jam and stay there displaying the same error with no rebooting.
And twice out of 80-100 times I got it to boot to the username and password screen in standalone mode.
But as soon as I made a change it crashed and started the rebooting cycle again.

My in app purchase didn't work and i didn't get my uberstrike credits. I still got subtracted though. does anyone know a solution to this problem? it happens a lot.

Just contact itunes store support and let them know what happened. They will refund the in-app charges for the items you did not receive and may give you a link to conatct the developers as well.

  • How I solved issues with Mail.app and Spotlight

Even though my upgrade from Tiger 10.4.10 to Leopard was painless, the new OS X did have a few issues that had bothered me:
*Mail.app: * Every now and then, the app would behave like on its first startup, saying it needs to import my mail before I can work with it. What's more, at times I've had the phenomen that messages would appear empty on the preview pane and sometimes even when being opened.
*Spotlight: * Even though I let the indexing finish on the first day of working under Leopard, every now and then it seemed to start all over. First, I thought it's the NAS being indexed but it just went on to restart indexing each time I thought I had let it finish.
*Free disk space: * I tried to bring the usage of my homedirectory down so I would have enough free disk space to switch FileVault off and then back on so I could start using TimeMachine. But whatever I did, the free disk space just wouuldn't inrease - it just stayed the same (yes, I did let the system recover space on shutdown).
The *free disk space* issue made me think there was a problem with my disk but repeated runs with the Disk Utility yielded nothing...not for about a month. Yesterday I got some warnings about 'damaged but not repaired' but according to an Apple doc those could be safely ignored.
Somebody suggested to apply the combo update for 10.5.1 as that could solve some issues so I went ahead - after all, the update had already been applied earlier so just re-installing wouldn't hurt much, right?
    Wrong.
The install of the combo update went smoothly, FileVault recovered some space on shutdown but upon restart I couldn't log in anymore: My homedirectory was damaged. The friendly OS X Leopard offered to repair it but soon later reported back that it failed doing so.
Now, to cut a long story short - deleting the affected user's account and using a different user on the same machine (without FileVault) solved any issues I've had. Mail now works like a charm (despite 40k+ messages with attachments), spotlight doesn't restart all it's indexing and disk space is shown correctly again. Also the odd corrupt file copy I had experienced occasionally (especially with large files) was gone.
My advise to anyone who didn't de-activate FileVault under Tiger to make the switch to Leopard: Even if you think it worked, switch it off and let Leopard set it up again. You may think things went right...but the above shows that there may be issues with it that you may blame other apps for...but they're probably not guilty at all.
I don't think the combo update actually caused FileVault to turn corrupt, it was just what broke the camel's neck. While it's no fun to lose your homedirectory, I'm glad the underlying issue finally came to light.

Thanks to this thread, it's been solved.

  • Bug with "updates available" icon

For most of today iTunes has been displaying "you have 3 updates available" in the apps section, with the little "3" on the left taskbar. Every time I click the arrow it would bring me to a page that says "there are no updates available". Doing a check on available downloads brings a window that says all items have been downloaded, and the update notice will not go away if I close and re-open iTunes. I have the latest iTunes (8.1.1.10). Any way to find out which apps need updating, or if it's a bug simply?

You can find some solutions to this problem here:
    http://www.macyourself.com/2008/09/08/get-rid-of-false-itunes-application-update -icon-that-wont-go-away/
If you right-click on an app in iTunes, it will tell you the full username it is associated with; you can click the "Next" button at the bottom of the window to cycle through all your apps.
In short, verify your username is correct, try signing out and signing in again, try syncing all apps to your device and then deleting them from within iTunes (but not on your device!) and then sync them back to iTunes. Hopefully one of these steps will fix the problem!

  • [Solved] Problem with GTK+ themes (some of the applications look ugly)

Another possibility is that you have the correct theme but don't have the associated theme engine installed.  Poke around the themes a bit:
For a GTK2 theme: in the "theme/gtk-2.0/gtkrc" file look for the line that says "engine" and a name.  Make sure you have that name installed.
For a GTK3 theme: in the "theme/gtk-3.0/gtk.css" file also look for "engine" and the name.  Also make sure that engine is installed.
Themes are almost always in "/usr/share/themes/theme_name"
The files you look for to see which engine a theme uses may be in different files than the ones specified above, poke around in the files.  The file that specifies the engine will be a text file so you can look at them using "less" or an alternative.

  • WiFi bug with phone app.

I searched the board, didn't see anything about this. I've verified that this happens on 2 different Pre's, and also numerous times on both.
If I am on call and connected via WiFi to my router, then a 2nd call beeps in, when I disconnect from all calls, the phone will not hang up. Ever. You can wait hours. You'll still be able to hear your voice echo in the phone as if you're connected to a dead line. The only solution for this bug I've found is to restart the phone, and then it lags on shutting down, and eventually you hear the "click" of the call disconnecting.
Has this been reported? Is this the best place to report a software bug?
    Thanks!
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

i have learned that turning on airplane mode will end the call without a full blown restart. once you turn off airplane mode, you can make calls/send texts/use the web again.

  • What do I do when AppleTV is stuck on screen with iTunes app icon showing with a white connector cable pictured underneath?

I just did the Software Update and now it sits with the white connector cable pictured below the iTunes icon... I've tried unplugging both the power cord and the HDMI cord connecting AppleTV to the tv, and then plug them both in... Same thing though. Won't move past that screen and I'm not sure what its trying to tell me. The light on the box itself is blinking quickly and stops blinking when I push buttons on the remote, but the screen doesn't change. Eventually it just goes into standby mode.

If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Source list, and then click Restore.

  • Hover bug with Javascript apps?

I have an HTML/Javascript AIR app that uses the hover event
on certain elements to show/hide them. I've noticed that if the
mouse moves out of the *app window* quickly, the app will not
register the movement and will continue to show the element rather
than hiding it. I'm using JQuery, but I experienced this behavior
even when I wasn't using JQuery.
I've also noticed this behavior on text links where you
specify a different look in CSS depending on whether the mouse is
hovering over the link or not. In this case, there is no
Javascript, just CSS and the behavior is the same. For example, if
you have the following CSS rules:
    #myLink { text-decoration: none; }
    #myLink:hover { text-decoration: underline; }
The link will have an underline when you hover over it.
However, a quick move off the link and out of the app window will
    leave the underline in place.
Is this a known issue and is there a workaround or fix on the
    way?

I've had the same issue (if the mouse leaves the application too quickly mouseout events aren't triggered).
In one of my apps I display custom tooltips and it's super annoying to have them laying around.
I use a timer to test for their presence (triggered on mouseover) and remove them after a bit if a mouseout hasn't been triggered.   Fine for my purposes but weird for a lot of other things.
    I think it's worth reporting here: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform

  • Mail & Exchange Server - app icon says there's unread mail, but there isn't

    Hi folks,
I upgraded to Snow Leopard a while ago and dragged along my hosted Exchange account (myhostedsolution.com) which I used to access via my iPhone & Entourage. With 10.6 I naturally switched over to Mail.app.
Now sometimes I get this odd bug: The Mail.App icon in the docks says there's one unread message (indicated by a red circle and the number one in it) however there is no new email in any of my folders. I checked everything Spam, Trash...
    - I have no rules or smart folders set up
    - my iPhone correctly states that there's no new mail on that account
My life may not depend on it but it's just one huge annoyance..
    Help anyone?
    S.

I can corroborate this. Fully updated snow leopard, with an Exchange 2007 account. Office and home machines configured alike. After a day at work, receiving, reading, deleting mail, and leaving no unread messages in the inbox, the home machine shows unread messages next to the Exchange inbox, and on its dock icon, but there are no unread messages in the inbox. Quitting and relaunching mail causes it to show no unread messages.
As the previous poster noted, this is a real annoyance.

  • Grey App Icon Appears.  Reboot and apps appear on different screens

I've noticed a strange thing happening on my home screen.  Sometimes, and it seems when apps are automatically being updated, a gray app icon with a circle and an 'x' appears on my home screen.  It will not go away and you cannot select it.
My home screen consists of 14 app icons, the rest of the screen is empty.  I do this to declutter my home screen.
When I reboot my phone, the grey icon is gone, but it fills up my home screen with other app icons from a different page.  When I move them back over to the second page so that only 14 apps appear again and the rest is empty space, I reboot my phone again, and it fills up the home page with more apps (different ones).
Is anybody else experiencing this issue?  I tried to take a screen print of the grey icon to post here on my iphone, but when I looked at the photo, it wasn't there (very strange).
What does this grey app icon represent?
Is this a bug in the software?
