[Solved] cannot access ttys (Ctrl + Alt + F1-F7)

When I press Ctrl + Alt + F1 I just get this error (Ctrl + Alt + F2 brings me back):
:: Loading Initramfs
commandline read: splashy
commandline read: boot
waiting 90 seconds for device /dev/disk/by-uuid/e289..[numbers]..311 ...
... When pressing Ctrl + Alt + F3-F7 I just get blank screen.
Here's the output of ps a:
[det@myhost ~]$ ps a
PID TTY STAT TIME COMMAND

Ii guess that is.. . See my both (/etc/)inittab(.pacsave) files look exactly the same:
# /etc/inittab
# Runlevels:
# 0 Halt
# 1(S) Single-user
# 2 Not used
# 3 Multi-user
# 4 Not used
# 5 X11
# 6 Reboot

#x:5:respawn:/usr/bin/kdm -nodaemon
#x:5:respawn:/usr/bin/slim >& /dev/null
# End of file
I guess I need to change the vc/s to ttys?
Like this?:
c1:2345:respawn:/sbin/agetty -8 38400 tty1 linux
c2:2345:respawn:/sbin/agetty -8 38400 tty2 linux
c3:2345:respawn:/sbin/agetty -8 38400 tty3 linux
c4:2345:respawn:/sbin/agetty -8 38400 tty4 linux
c5:2345:respawn:/sbin/agetty -8 38400 tty5 linux
c6:2345:respawn:/sbin/agetty -8 38400 tty6 linux
Edit: Yeah, thanks man.
Edit 2: Later on I also edited /etc/rc.sysinit the same way

  • [Solved] Cannot access non-executable directories

After I copied some folders and files from CD I had permission denied trying to access as a normal user.
    So I did
    sudo chown -R doctor:users folder
    sudo chmod -R 777 folder
After that, the folder and files became executable.
So, in directory Music/ I had some executable folders and files.
I thought I can make it all non-executable recursively...
    sudo chmod -R -x Music/
    And now it's non-executable.
    But wait
    [doctor@doctor ~]$ cd Music/
    bash: cd: Music/: Permission denied
I cannot access non executable folders?!
After I make them executable again, I can access.
    [doctor@doctor ~]$ chmod -R +x Music/
    [doctor@doctor ~]$ cd Music/
    [doctor@doctor Music]$
    wtf?

Didn't get how it works though..
But a way to solve is
    chmod -R 775 Music
    And for files...
    find ./Music/ -type f -exec chmod 664 {} \;
Though still didn't get why must folders have different permissions...
Too much to study that chmod thing...

  • [Solved]No X, No Ctrl+Alt+Backspace, cant get to console...HELP!

I did a new install and went for the ext4 option, I installed everything I usually do but went with nvidia-xcofig rather than the usual Xorg -configure, now having set everything up all I get is a blank screen, I cant ctrl alt backspace to get to console and mt laptop just reboots after about 10 seconds or so.
I have Mint installed on another partition hoping that I could get into rc.conf and ! out gdm but ext4 isn't supported! lol
What do I do, I'm well and truely stumped!
I left arch for 4 days as I got tired of things breaking but had to come back, I miss my arch, well until this peach of a problem came up
    Thanks

  • Ctrl+Alt+C Shortcut Problem in Indesign CS3

I cannot use the ctrl+alt+c shortcut in IdCS3. The alt key works with all other shortcuts. I believe this is caused by ATI's catalyst control center which uses the same shortcut to open it's window but I disabled the hotkeys in catalyst and even changed that hotkey to one besides ctrl+alt+c and I can still not get the shortcut to work in Id.
This happened to me about a year ago and I can't remember how I fixed it.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I had this problem, Ctrl-Alt-C did not work in Indesign or Photoshop (but CS5.5 & Windows 7).
    To fix it:
    > right click your desktop background
    > select catalyst Control Centre (top of list)
    > ‘Options’ at top right pull down menu
(if you can’t see this, choose Advanced install, OK, then go back to step one again)
    >Hotkeys > Hot Keys Manager
    > select the one thing in the list, then press Edit
    > Change from Ctrl+Alt+C  to  Ctrl+Alt+Shift+C
    > OK, OK, OK
Hey presto!  It’s all working now!

  • Once gdm loads I cannot ctrl+alt+Fx to get a tty

Once gdm loads, I cannot ctrl+alt+Fx to get a tty.  I just get a black screen where my logon screen used to be.  I dunno what has changed on this system.  I installed xfce4 to play with a bit but that is the only recent change.  If I boot into mode 3 everything is fine until I load up X via xinitrc.  This causes the same behavior (black screen when I hit ctrl+alt+Fx).  Thoughts are appreciated!

    I meant nouveau :-)
You know that nvidia drivers don't use KMS and there will be a couple seconds black screen before you get to the tty, right?

  • [SOLVED] Ctrl-Alt-F1 does not work from KDM login screen

I have some weird problems with switching to the virtual console from the graphical GUI.
    rc.conf: KEYMAP=hu
Unless I define hungarian keyboard in KDE4 also, I cannot switch to vc/1 with Ctrl-Alt-F1. When the keyboard is defined in KDE4, i can switch.
But in the KDM login screen, I am unable to switch and there is no option to set the keyboard.
    Any ideas please?

  • Firefox 9.0.1 keeps hanging once I access a website with video, when I write e-mails etc. If a press ctrl+alt+del, opens a window to confirm closing, and firefox works again. When I close that confirm window, firefox immediately hangs again.

It stops working if I access websites with videos, and all sort of more complex flash. It I try to write an e-mail, it also stops. I can't do anything. PC keeps working, though. So I press ctrl+alt+del. It opens that window asking if you want to close all the tabs. I notice that firefox start to work again, behind that window. But, once I close the window, it stops again. Sometimes I can close the tab with the video before it hangs again, which can take a few ctr+alt+del's. It doesn't happen with other browsers! It started 1 week ago. Is it an extension? Or a virus (i use avast)? Thank you!

I have windows 8.1 and cannot access itunes store even creating a new apple id. With other users on the same computer I can access itunes store. How can I solve this?

i had the same problem before using a fresh install of Windows 8.1.  I have resolved this issue by running the program compatibility wizard.  This I did by right-clicking on the iTunes icon in the desktop, selecting Troubleshoot compatibility, waited for it to detect compatibility issues and when presented with the following options: 1.) Try recommended settings; 2.) Troubleshoot program, I chose the latter.  When asked what problems I noticed, I checked the following: "The program worked in earlier versions of Windows but won't install or run" and "The program requires additional permission"
After that, it tired to resolve the issue, and provided the necessary settings to run iTunes.  Now it's running flawlessly.  I have Avast anti-virus installed though.
    HTH!

However, today I decided to make a full update with new KDE. I thought that it'd be rational to do it from the virtual console but pressing ctrl + alt + Fx causes my monitor to turn off. Have I missed something?

  • Ctrl-Alt in TOC cannot find file

I created a book with a cover page, a copyright, and a chapter, and added a TOC. It generated fine. But when I save as PDF, the table of contents in the PDF is not live. The cursor points to an item, but when you click it, nothing happens.
I checked the Frame TOC. When I hold Ctrl-alt, the cursor turns to a hand pointer and I can click on the entry. Then an error message appears that "Cannot find xxx file." The name of the file it lists is exactly the name of the chapter file. The chapter file is still exactly where it was when I created the book. All the files are in the same directory.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    Arnis,
I moved the cover, copyright, and chapter to a whole new directory. I created a new book and saved it into the new directory with the files. I
Added a new TOC, making sure that the hypertext links option was checked.
I tested one of the links. It still says "Can't find xxx/xxx.fm file." although the path and file that it lists is now the new path and file.
Guess something is really messed up somewhere :-). So far, I've copied all the chapter text into a completely new file, saved it as MIF, and reopened it in Frame. I've moved the files to a new directory. I've created brand-new TOCs. I'm not sure what more to do, unless recreate the content of the chapter from scratch in case it has something wrong with it?

    "(Scheme function)"
    m:0xc + c:64
    Control+Alt + Alt_L

    "(Scheme function)"
    m:0xc + c:38

  • Weird tty console problem if I leave X (e g I press ctrl+alt+F1)

    Hello,
I have a weird problem with my console.  When I leave Xorg, by pressing ctrl+alt+F1 for example to get to a console, the console is a horrible mess.  It is a working console, but it looks so terrible you cannot recognize a single character.  Little multi-colored squares are all around the screen and some are blinking representing the cursor.  The conosle however, still works as I can blindly type things like top and press enter and watch the squares dance as top runs.
Anyone heard of this problem before?
Thanks and sorry for posting so much in the forums,
    e^1

Yeah I believe it is a bug with the nvidia driver for that card.(Maybe others?)
I switched to the nv driver and the problem hasn't come back.
