[Solved] Change shell in script and keep child processes in new shell?

Hi all,
I have been trying to replicate the following in a script:
# optirun bash
# wine steam
I have tried using
optirun bash -c "command"
but apparently wine spawns programs as a child process and then terminates which exits the bash shell with optirun on it.  Is there a way to keep the child processes inside the same shell too?
Thanks!

Don't think so.  I have tried the nvidia fix for it, but it doesn't work, but that might be because i'm using the bumblebee-nvidia package

If I completely fill my hard drive 500Gb how time machine will keep working having 1Tb of total space [externak hard drive], I mean I have to delete my hard drive but how I keep my previous information on time machine and keep using it with new information?

Time Machine does not provide archival storage.
If you delete a file from your disk it will eventually be deleted from your TM backup without any notice to you.
You need a second external disk to use for archival storage.
You also need a third disk for backups of the second disk.

  • SunMC - Process is forking and reaping child processes. What's that?

    Hey folks,
Im really new to the sysadmin world, and I think maybe my company really didn't think things well when they've decided to put me doing this, hehehe.
I work with a general queue for which my team receives tickets with different kind of problems, among them, Automation Alerts (I think you all know what Im talking about).
Recently (maybe 2-4 days) we've started to receive an Automation Ticket with the following message:
Solaris Process Monitoring Process Monitoring Base03 CPU
time for reaped children 107.1 30.0 Process is forking and
    reaping child processes.
I've found almost nothing about this, and even when I think what's this ticket about (I've closed 2 or 3 of them stating no issues were found), I really want to understand and know where to look and if something can be done about this, because processes on the server and general state of it seems in good condition and nothing looks bad, apparently. The server is a Solaris 10 with zones.
Can you shed some light on this? I'd appreciate all the help you can give me.
    Thank you and regards all.

The same thought occurred to me, except I started seeing "failure" logs in JAMF the morning after we run maintenance policies. All of these failures were due to the Mac not restarting, which isn't really a failure - more of an inconvenience - since the second part of the policy (removing eTrust antivirus and restarting is part 1, installing SEP 12.1 and restarting is part 2) runs immediately on restart no matter what time of the day it is.
In some cases the macs did not restart because the user had unsaved work or something else that would cancel logout. In this case, Casper prompts the user to restart and waits until the OK button is clicked, then counts down 1 minute and restarts. In the other case, nothing would have prevented logout yet the computer still did not logout and then restart, leading me to believe that the reason the Mac did not log out was a locked desktop, and since I am telling System Events to simulate a gui log out, this would be blocked by a locked desktop.
The problem basically stems from the following two issues: 1. I am not to force a logout or restart when a console user is logged in and 2. Casper will not automatically log a console user out on it's own OR restart the computer if a console user is logged in - and then I have to rely on the end user to follow on screen instructions since the Casper restart prompt can be moved to the side and effectively ignored.
When no restarts are required for the various policies we run, this is not an issue. And anyway, I originally just wanted to know what process is running when a desktop is asleep and locked, but no screen saver is active...

  • HT201401 I changed my pass code and couldn't remember the new pass code. After several failed attempts, my iPhone has been disabled. What do I do?

I changed my pass code and couldn't remember the new pass code. After several failed attempts, my iPhone has been disabled. What do I do?

If you forgot (or don't know) your passcode, restore the device from backup on the last computer it was synced with when the passcode was turned on... this will remove the passcode. If you do not have access to the last computer it was synced with, you will have to force it into recovery mode & restore as a new device.

  • Changing my Skype number and keeping my credit on ...

Can I change my skype number and transfer my credit for a new Skype number?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Skype numbers and credit are tied to the account.  If you add an additional Skype number or replace the number with a new one when the old one expires, then the credit won't change since it's still tied to the account.  If you want to transfer the credit from one account to another then as far as I know,  it's not possible on standard accounts.  If you recently purchased credit within the past 15 days that you didn't use, you could request a refund.  You could then apply the money from the refund towards credit on another account.

  • How can I change a mail account and keep all email?

Brought my G4 home after our business closed. I want to simply change my email account info from my work info to my personal info without losing any of the saved emails from work. Did that make sense? How can I do that? I tried just changing my email address and server settings but I can't get any mail, the program times out.
Thanks very much for any advice!
    Cheers,
    Jon

Jon, First Quit Mail, then I'd backup these two Mail folders, by right clicking on them in the Finder, then choose Archive/Compress.
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail Downloads
(Could be a different folder here if you chose such in Mail Prefs)
Right click on that Mail folder, choose archive, you'll get everything in the folder, and the folder itself in a file called Mail.zip, move it to a safe place, same for the Mail Downloads folder... only the plist is separate.
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
I think not getting the Mail is a different problem. Are they differen't ISP at work & Home?
    Which Ports is it using?
    IMAP or POP on both?

  • How can I change my iTunes ID and keep my apps ?

I have a new iTunes and AppStore ID with a new e-mail address.
When I want to update my apps, I am asked for Password to my old ID which is my olf e-mail adress.
No way to retrive my forgoten pass as this e-mail address does not exist anymore...
    thanks for you help !

Apps are permanently tied to the Apple ID under which they were downloaded, they cannot be transfered to another Apple ID.  Your only ooptions are to use the old Apple ID and password to updat those apps, or delete the apps and download/purchase again under the new Apple ID.

  • Moving from UK to USA, Changing app store region and keeping ilife?

    Hi
Soon I'll be moving from the UK to US. I have an apple ID in the uk and was wondering if I can change it over to the US?
Also, how does this work in regards to iLife? I understand that if I create a new apple ID for the US I'd have to pay for iLife again right? ( As iLife is tied to one apple ID)
Is there anyway to keep the software, change region and still update it?
    Thanks!

There is no need to create a new Apple ID for the US. You just need to use the iTunes app on your Mac and enter your account details. There is a section where you can change the country or region from which you are allowed to purchase. You should wait until you have the proper verifiable bank credentials in the US before you do this. You will need a bank card from a US bank with a verifiable US billing address. Or at the time of making the change you will need to redeem a US iTunes Gift Card in your account as an alternative acceptable method of payment.

  • HT204074 can I change me apple Id and keep my password from old Id ?

I have an iPad and an iMac and have facetime on both.
I would like to use different e-mail address on each.
how do I do this. This way when I am away I can call home and talk
    to who is home.
This is my first time doing this

me.com and mac.com ID's can't be changed, it's possible your iCloud account can be, not sure about that.

  • Changing PC's OS and Keeping My Current iTunes Files

I’ve got a Vista OS and the iTunes application currently on my C: drive that I want to format and put W7 on. All the music and video files that are linked to the iTunes application are on my D: drive. How can I keep the current iTunes configuration after installing the new OS on the C: drive? Are there iTunes files that I can copy off the C: drive before formatting it, installing W7, and put back on after reinstalling iTunes with the new OS and everything will be as it was?
Does that make sense? What I don’t want to do is lose my current iTunes libraries, back ups, configurations, etc. And I really don’t want to have to rebuild my libraries.

iPhone backups will be stored in the following folder on Vista machines
    \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
(it's possible this folder is hidden so you may need to show hidden files). You can backup this folder as well if you wish. iTunes only keeps the most recent backup. If you wanted to be extra safe, you could force iTunes to create a backup just before you migrate your files, and then keep this backup safe. For more details on creating and restoring from backups see the following support article
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
Your apps should already be on the D drive if you have this location set as your media folder location in iTunes. You can verify this to be the case by right-clicking on a few apps in iTunes, choosing Get Info and in the Summary pane it should give you the location of those files. This should be your D drive. Or you can browse in the iTunes Music (or iTunes Media) folder in your D drive and you should have a folder called Mobile Applications with all your apps sat in there).

  • Change my itunes account and all devices to a new pc

Hi I was wondering how I can change over everthing that has to do with my itunes to my new laptop. Me and my wife have several apple devices. We both have Iphones and 3 ipod touches plus just purchased and ipad. I have a new laptop and transfered all my apps, music and books with software I purchased. I'm sure I have everything I need on my new pc. I have folders set up on my phone and ipod and want them to stay the same, when i synced my ipod all the contact info was there but my folders are missing or are empty and the apps are all in different places. With my old itunes account I could sync so my ipod was set up the same as my phone and it worked great but now I'm scared to sync my phone on my new pc and undo all my folders and have everything messed up. Also my wife has her phone and ipod organized different than mine and she wants hers to stay the same also. I guess what I want is for Itunes on my new pc to act like it did on my old pc. I would like to be able to sync my ipod so it has the same folders, contacts, music and apps as my phone, and be able to sync my wifes ipod so she has the same folders, contacts, music and apps as her phone. I was planing on giving away my old laptop to someone who could use it so I really dont want to keep it just so I can use it for itunes. Thanks for any help.

All iTunes purchases are permanently attached to the account used to obtain them and can't be transferred.
I would suggest you relocate your iTunes library onto a drive big enough to hold it all, with room for growth, and obtain a second to act as a backup.

  • How do you convert aiff files to aac and keep them organized in new folders

I have spent several hours trying to figure out how to convert my thousands of aiff files to aac files.  I want to keept the originals and have the new aac files created and then stored in a file system identical but separate to the one that stores the aiff files.  Will itunes do this or is there another program that will?
    Thanks,
    Jeremy

You can override iTunes' preferences setting to keep your music organized, but then it is off for everything you do.  If you have this preference set then iTunes keeps your music organized the way it wants to.
I suppose another way would be to use a third party converter such as Max or XLD to convert the files to AAC separately. I then believe if you drag the files to iTunes while holding down the option key (not 100% sure if that's the key combination) it will not copy them to the iTunes folder but leave them where you have them.  If you have iTunes set to organize your music and do the conversion inside of iTunes it will want to have its way.
