[SOLVED] Downgrading Wine versions?

The game I'm trying to play keeps crashing after several minutes of play. Upon researching the problem, it seems that this is a confirmed problem with Wine version 1.1.38, which is the version currently in the AUR. Downgrading to 1.1.37 supposedly fixes the problem.
How do I do this, however? I know pacman has a downgrade feature but as I understand it only works off cached packages, and I never had 1.1.37 installed on this system so I don't think it can downgrade for me. On the AUR page I didn't see any link to old versions. Supposedly the game in question works flawlessly under 1.1.37 (it had gold and platinum appDB ratings on old versions, dropped to bronze with the latest).

Alright I see the part of PKGBUILD you're talking about. I changed the source line but how do I get the sum for it other than downloading it and calculating it myself?
Also, it says "sha256sums" and not "md5sum". I assume that I cannot calculate the md5sum and have it work there?

  • [SOLVED] Multiple versions of Wine / downgrade Wine

    Hi All
    I need to be able to run Wine 1.5 in order to use GoToMyPC which unfortunately doesn't work with Wine 1.7. I guess the ideal would be to have Wine 1.7 alongside 1.5 and be able to switch between them. I've had real difficulty in finding any information on how to do this and when I tried to compile Wine 1.5 I had errors which I couldn't resolve.
    So, is it possible to downgrade Wine to 1.5? If so, is there any information around someone could point me to which explains how to do it? It is really annoying me that I have to connect to work via Windows just because of a Wine version! GoToMyPC always worked in Ubuntu for example until the recent "upgrade". I came back to Arch, hadn't realised how much I loved this distro' actually, only to find the same issue!
    Any suggestions, help, pointers etc. are much appreciated.
    Richard

    RichAustin wrote:To be honest I don't really understand how the prefix is supposed to work. If I run the above command to set the prefix and then "wine --version" I still get wine 1.7. It seems most likely to me that I'm not using the prefix correctly to set the version of wine. The documentation on it is as clear as mud which doesn't really help.
    That is because wine uses certain other variables to point to a specific wine version (binaries and libraries). I wrote a script a very long time ago to link binaries downloaded by PoL to /usr/bin/wine-_version_. Since then some things may have changed. To use a different wine version in a specific prefix you would need to set at least those variables:
    WINEPREFIX="$HOME/.PlayOnLinux/wineprefix/Windows7"
    WINESERVER="$HOME/.PlayOnLinux/wine/linux-x86/1.7.13/bin/wineserver"
    WINELOADER="$HOME/.PlayOnLinux/wine/linux-x86/1.7.13/bin/wine"
    WINEDLLPATH="$HOME/.PlayOnLinux/wine/linux-x86/1.7.13/lib/wine"
    This is done by PoL however, so there is no need to do it manually. Reread what other suggested. PoL is the simplest way for that.
    Edit: Clarification.

  • [How?]More than 1 Wine version simultaneously

    As a frequent Arch user, I want to broaden my knowledge and skills with Linux - this time, I'd like to be able to have 2 Wine versions - new 1.1.38 and stable 1.0.1. Right now I only have 1.1.38 installed under /opt/wine/. In q4wine it's possible to set different Wine versions, so it looks like something entirely doable and not that hard.
    I looked under the PKGBUILD of wine-stable at AUR to see where it installs (I hoped for something like /opt/wine-stable/ to make my life easier), but it didn't tell me much. Because of my newbieness, I don't understand the relevant part:
    build() {
    ar x $(basename ${source[0]}) || return 1
    tar xf data.tar.lzma || return 1
    cp -rf etc/ usr/ "$pkgdir"/
    But it doesn't look like it's getting installed to /opt/wine-101 or something close.
    So, my questions are:
    1) Where does wine-stable from AUR install as default?
    2) How can I change it to install the binaries to /opt/wine-stable?
    3) Will it read my current virtual drive ~/.wine/drive_c/ with any problem? Or I need to setup a separate drive?
    4) Will there be two separate instances of winecfg?
    Thanks for your help! It is greatly appreciated!

    Downgrading isn't supported and wouldn't help.  You need to fix your phone.
    1. Delete and reinstall all email accounts.
    2, Restore the phone in iTunes, first  using a backup and if needed as a new phone.

    After upgrading to version 6 my ArcGIS files become corrupted if I save them while I have FF open (sporadic occurence, but limited to FF being open). Any ideas of what could be causing this? I have also posted on the ArcGIS forum site for input from that side.
    How can I downgrade to version 5? If that is the only option available.

    Thanks for the reply. It doesn't have to process the php, it just has to show the HTML content. It did that just fine before the last upgrade but won't now.
    I've seen that page you referenced: http://kb.mozillazine.org/File_types_and_download_actions.
    It doesn't help. The things it says to look for aren't there for me, specifically:
    browser.download.pluginOverrideTypes
    plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types
    I followed the rest of the instructions but it didn't help.
    I did get it to quit opening tabs, instead it prompts me what it should do with the file every time now. What it should do, and used to do, is open the php page and display the HTML content.
    Any other ideas?

    hello again everyone, I've been building wine-multi packages for a while, and I figgure since I'm building so many packages, I should host a repo so others can share.  problem is hosting.  if someone can contribute reliable hosting, I'll build every release from 0.9 to current, and keep them up to date as arch updates require

    Wanting to deactivate PS Elements on Mac and transfer program to a friend. Is it OK to download a trial to my friend's Mac and use my serial number.  Also is the serial number the same for Mac and Win versions?  Many thanks.

    Yes it should work transferring PSE10 from Mac to Mac. There is a download link below for PSE10, which your friend could use. There is a formal licence transfer process but it’s not necessary for your friend to register the product (activation is sufficient) although he couldn’t benefit from future upgrade pricing without registration. Serial numbers typically can only be registered one time.
    Boxed versions of PSE are normally multi-platform with disks for both Windows and Mac; so the serial number is the same. Downloads have tended to be single platform only although I believe the current version PSE12 will work on both Windows and Mac with the same serial number – boxed or download.

  • [SOLVED] Downgrading python / installing a previous version

    Hi!
    I need to install Python 2.6 (I have the package, from my other arch box), it's the newest version which works with Google App Engine SDK. The problem is, that there already exists package python2 2.7 (which is required by openoffice,  dbus-python and other cruical programs down the dependency chain) and it conflicts with the python package.
    Is it possible to install Python 2.6 (i only need it for Google App Engine) without losing all the apps that depend on Python 2.7?

    No...  just install python-2.6 alongside your current python package.  There is a PKGBUILD in the AUR: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=41809  (read the comments).

  • How to downgrade MacFUSE version?

    I just upgraded from Tiger to Snow Leopard on a MacBook Pro 17. I also have a Boot Camp partition running MS XP (SP3 with latest updates) and use Parallels 5 to access XP apps from OSX.

    1. How do I determine what version I need to downgrade to?
    2. How do I downgrade MacFUSE?
    Thanks for all help!

    http://kb.parallels.com/en/6660 was more helpful.
    In my case the answer is simple: Under System Preferences, choose MacFuse and check for updates. Install the update (version 2.0.3). That appears to have solved the problem.
    Thanks to baltwo, since the suggestion caused me to realize that some other application (n this case Parallels) was the source of the problem.
