[SOLVED] Emacs Key Theme in Gnome but Retain Select All with Ctrl-a?

Using gnome tweak tool, I switched key theme to emacs. However, now when I press ctrl-A it no longer selects all. Especially given that "Ctrl-x h" isn't working to select all (not a problem! I want ctrl-a), I would like to keep the emacs key theme but still be able to select all with ctrl-A.
I looked at dconf-editor, but org/gnome/desktop/wm/keybindings doesn't have anything for select all, and in org/gnome/desktop/interface I merely see gtk-key-theme set to emacs.
Does anyone have a solution to this?
Thanks a lot.

Since posting I found this thread: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=162794
I'm going to try editing the Emacs gtkrc (have to find where that is, but that's fine) and changing to:
bind "<ctrl>a" { "select all" () }

    Generally adding a common album artist will fix things.

  • [Solved] openbox - icon themes are installed, but no icons display

    I think I am missing something here!  I have thus far installed openbox, gdm, lxappearance and pcmanfm.  The only icon set that i can get to work is the "Tango" set from the repos.  The pre-installed "hicolor" font doesn't even work.
    I will attempt to describe what is happening in as close detail as I can (but like I said, I think I may be missing something).  I download the theme, extract it to ~/.icons and it shows up in the list in lxappearance.  In the lxappearance preview, there are no icons, just the sample filenames.  If I select that icon theme, sure enough, pcmanfm loses its icons.  I have tried svg and png themes.  "Black and White" is a png theme that doesn't work, but so is Tango which does.
    Like I said, this affects the preinstalled "hicolor" icon set as well, so it is not a /usr/share/icons vs ~/.icons issue as far as I can tell.  I have downloaded and installed 2 icon themes and both display the issue.  The only icon theme that works is from the repo, but there is a really limited selection in there so I would like to figure this out.
    Thank you

    I found something, but I don't know if if it relevant.  Each of the icon packs is filled with folders with both image files and symbolic links.  The symbolic links are to images in the same folder.  All of these links are broken according to the "file" command.  Why would all of the symbolic links be broken when the targets are clearly there?  I think this may be the issue since many of the missing icons seem to be broken links.
    Edit: I just looked at my other two machines and none of those links are broken.  This could be a sign of a bigger problem if all of the symbolic links on the machine are going to be broken.  What could cause all of these links to wind up broken like that?  I may start another thread if I can't find any info.

  • How do I eliminate an old Apple ID but retain apps downloaded with that ID

    Have some apps that were originally downloaded with an old Apple ID--
    since upgrading to the lastest OS on my iPad, some apps ask me for PW for old Apple ID--as does iTunes on my Mac
    when I sync the iPad --
    Would like to eliminate the old ID completely, but how do I retain the apps?

    You don't.  Apps are tied to whatever Apple Id bought/downloaded them and that can never change.
    They will forever require that Apple Id to update.   Apple IDs can not be deleted either.
    If you do not remember the password for that AppleID you can go to http://iforgot.apple.com and try to reset it.

    How can I get iTunes running on a Windows XP machine as well as, separately on a newer laptop running Windows 7 to both recognize and sync with my new iPhone 4S?  I have different libraries on each machine which I need to sync with the iPhone, both in iTunes.  It seems to be workiing fine on the Windows 7 machine, but not even reconizing the device at all in iTunes on Windows XP.
    Thank you for your assistance.

    Hi turingtest2 - thanks for the reply. As you say It is how it is - and I have three workstations in this home (not counting three for my children and one for the family) and I pretty much always have more than one OS on each - that's how it is for me. I shouldn't have to worry about how many OSs I have (or how often I change them) just to have music while I'm working - through the PC sound system that is. I never have to worry about any other software, only iTunes. Once in a while (in the past) I've made a vendor call if I changed to many things to often (like CPU, GPU, memory, etc - or even a replacement MB) - but that hasn't happened in a couple years (at least since Vista) so I think (hope) they have fixed that for good. And even then it was a quick call and problem resolved. The only (glaring) constant problem is iTunes - limiting my own use of my own music (by counting an OS as a physical PC). Even with VM (which is just another OS) - although you can Attach things to multiple active OSs - it's still your own (purchased) music - and all on one PC. Thanks again!

  • [SOLVED]Hiding disk partitions on Gnome desktop

    Since upgrading to Gnome 2.22.0, all of my partitions have been showing on the desktop and in the sidebar in nautilus. I don't really want this this to happen, as it gets kind of cluttered.
    This has been a problem before, but after some googling, I managed to solve it by putting a '10ignore-disks.fdi' in /etc/hal/fdi/preprobe/. Since the update though, this no longer works. I've tried playing with /etc/hal/fdi/policy/preferences.fdi (after some more googling) but to no avail. I'm not really sure what to try next. Does anyone have any ideas?
    Also, note that I've read about going to gconf-editor and turning off the 'volumes_visible' option in apps/nautilus/desktop, but this isn't really what I want either, as I'd prefer if removable media was automounted and displayed on the desktop.
    Thanks in advance for your help.

    I have mine in /usr/share/hal/fdi/preprobe/95userpolicy/10-ignore-disks.fdi instead, and it looks something like this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <deviceinfo version="0.2">
    <device>
    <match key="block.device" string="/dev/sdb1">
    <merge key="info.ignore" type="bool">true</merge>
    </match>
    </device>
    </deviceinfo>
    I don't have an entry in /etc/fstab for /dev/sdb1 and mounting it will be via terminal as root.
    If I am not mistaken, in Gnome 2.22, if you want your partitions to be mounted on boot (without the desktop icons), just place corresponding entries to your /etc/fstab mounting each partitions under /mnt.  Without those /etc/fstab entries, Gnome will mount them under /media and will create desktop icons for each.

  • [SOLVED] After upgrade gdm and Gnome don't work.

    Hi,
    after I did an upgrade I had some ldconfig: errors and fixed them all using pkgfile and reinstallation of quite some packages.
    But now starting gdm with
    # systemctl start gdm
    only leads to a black screen with a cross shaped cursor I can move. Nothing more.
    Xorg works -- I'm writing this post from KDE.
    I reinstalled gnome and gnome-extra. Still no success.
    System is up to date.
    Hopefully my logs will help, I have no idea what to do. Thanks for any help. :)

    Finally managed fixed it.
    libcanberra-pulse from [extra] was broken. I reinstalled it with --force.
    Likely that came with the recent pulseaudio upgrade.

    thanks! Now my problem is that with Adium's theme in Empathy i can't change the font size, i've tried to modify the file in ".local/share/adium/message-styles/*AiumStyle" and then "Contents", Info.plist changing the font's value in the line:
    <key>DefaultFontSize</key>
    <integer>14</integer>
    but nothing, same result. With this theme (adium-theme-ubuntu) the font is bigger but with other themes like the original Renkoo, fonts are very small
