[Solved] Gnome-terminal does not start (fresh install)

Whenever I install gnome-terminal, I have the following message displayed:
(gconftool-2:28984): GConf-WARNING **: Client failed to connect to the D-BUS daemon:/usr/bin/dbus-launch terminated abnormally without any error message
Then whenever I launch gnome-terminal I have this message:
** (gnome-terminal:1102): CRITICAL **: atk_bridge_adaptor_cleanup: assertion `inited' failed
The problem seems to be related to dbus. I have even tried guake which complains explicitly about "No D-BUS daemon running".
Systemctl is telling me that d-bus is up and running.
Any help appreciated.

[SOLVED] (gnome) NetworkManager does not start on login

Hello!
Like the title says, the NetworkManager utility does not start with gnome on login. Every time I log in I have to start it manually by going into the terminal and running su, then running NetworkManager. I have googled and searched in the wiki, but did not find a good answer. Some threads talk about doing something with the gnome-session but it did not work for me.
So, which conf file do I need to edit to have it start on startup?
I hope I provided enough information.

[SOLVED] gnome-terminal won't start

Well, first of all good day and thanks in advance.
gnome-terminal is not launching. I get:
ERROR:terminal-app.c:1433:terminal_app_init: assertion failed: (app->system_font_desc != NULL)
This started with no particular trigger, and now i am using aterm, but i like better gnome-terminal, so any help would be appreciated.

Seems like a font issue, try this:
gnome-terminal --tab-with-profile=Default
Else you can try editing the settings using gconf-editor.

[SOLVED] Gnome 3.12 : gnome terminal does not run anymore

I had the following message when trying to run gnome-terminal after updating to 3.12:
Error creating terminal: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)
I have found a fix, so I'll share it with the community. The problem was that I had vte3-mosh-fix installed from the aur, version 0.34.9 and that gnome-terminal now requires vte3 0.36.0.
Switching to the official vte3 package fixes the issue.

Gnome-terminal does not prevent xscreensaver

When I work in gnome-terminal, every 10 minutes the screen suddenly becomes dark. It kinda frightens me. All keypresses that happened in the terminal don't postpone screensaver, but if I work in other window, screensaver doesn't come out of nowhere.

pacman -Qi gnome-terminal
gives vte3 as a dependency which was not installed on my system as it conflicted with vte3-text which was required by termite. So removing termite and vte3-select-text and then installing vte3 solved te problem, but this means that one cannot currently use both termite anf gnome-terminal on his/her system.

SQL Server 2012 DB Engine does not start (clean install with server 2012 and 2008 R2)

I'm trying to do clean installation of SQL server 2012 on Server 2012 (which is runnning as a VM on ESX server) and getting this "wait on the DB engine recovery failed" message. Initially, I though this issue was related to some permission issues
but changing the permission or service accounts didn't help. I'm not seeing any "denied" messages in the log files either. Even with Server 2008 R2 (clean built VM), the installation gives the exactly the same error messages.
My setup is purely for test purpose; so, the security is not a concern. Can someone help or give me a clue where to look?

As you are telling this is a test installation process...
In the logs i m seeing the error message "An error occurred while processing the log for database 'model'. If possible, restore from backup. If a backup is not available, it might be necessary to rebuild the log.".
1) If the SQL Services was installed successfully and SQL Service was not able to start because of model database issue...
    1.1) If you have model database SQL back file, start the SQL Server in single user mode with minimum configuration and try to restore MODEL database

    1.2) If you don't have backups., try to rebuild the system databases but make sure that you are not losing any data critical data on master and SQL Jobs on MSDB

2) As if this is a new installation try to repair the instance with the help of setup media file
3) If the repair option fails., the last option wipe out the complete SQL Server components from Services.msc and Registries and start new installation.
4) Make sure when you are doing un-installation all the required SQL Server components on services.msc should be in stop state.

[solved] "adsl.service" does not start with "netctl" sometimes

I recently moved from "netcfg" to "netctl".
Solution. I copied "/usr/lib/systemd/system/adsl.service" into a new service and added a line
After=[email protected]
under "[Unit]"

It goes definitely against any logic.
The service file looks good, but I've copied it to /usr/lib/systemd/system/bdsl.service. Same contents - and the new one launches succesfully.
I've deleted the original ...adsl.service file, verified that it disappeared, copied it back from the new bdsl.service file, and it still does not launch.

I've erased the drive, restored the system from a 1 week old backup, started it - everything worked. Then I'v updated the whole system, including the rp-pppoe package, and the adsl service is failing again.
Downgrading solves the problem. Should I file a bug report?

Oracle web tier install+config: opmn does not start after install

Centos 5 box.
After a silent install of web tier 11.1.1.2 opmn will not start. The installation was "complete" but I found some errors in the various log files.
When I try to start a process (for example) using opmn this error occurs in the log file:

The configuration of completed successfully.
Checking a screen shot of someone else's configure output theirs continues beyond
"Bootstrapping OPMN configuration files..."
and correctly generates the instance etc.
I have tried a reinstall, and also tried a generate a new instance using the silent config tool. Same errors each time.
Log also states;

. This varies between installs and configs but available is always 0. There is Gb's of space available in the directory and the user has write permissions.

Solved. Oracle_home and Instance home must be subdirectories of MIDDLEWARE_HOME. MIDDLEWARE HOME and command to not install updates must be added to response file. Helpful to install and configure separately.

Safari does not start after installing Mountain Lion

I installed Mountain Lion on my Imac. No problem. However after installing ML on my MacBook Safari doesn't open. I have installed ML again but still it does not work.

You haven't indicated if you have tried multiple DVD/CD's or just the one. Look under the "Apple > About This Mac > More Info.. > Disk Burning " do you see the Superdrive? If the system recognizes it but it doesn't work try a

Wait 15 seconds.
Attach the computers power cable.

Remark: Before, installing zeitgeist, when searching for applications gnome-shell crashed and in the .xsession-errors I got this error
gnome-shell-calendar-server[1508]: Got HUP on stdin - exiting
. This may not be related to this problem.

Well only to see if it is related to zeitgeist, I've removed (deinstalled) all zeitgeist related libs and apps:
libzeitgeist
gnome-shell-extension-zeitgeist
libqzeitgeist
zeitgeist
gnome-activity-journal
zeitgeist-datahub
zeitgeist-extensions
I still get the same error mentioned above:
gnome-shell-calendar-server[1508]: Got HUP on stdin - exiting
More details what happens if all extensions disabled

Apache does not start after installing the policy web agent

Hi,
We get the following error when we start the apache webserver on linux which has opensso policy agent installed/configured to it.
./apachectl start./apachectl: line 77: 4453 Segmentation fault $HTTPD -k $ARGV
Environment:
OS: Linux SystemName 2.6.9-42.ELsmp #1 SMP Wed Jul 12 23:27:17 EDT 2006 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux (32 bit)
WebServer: httpd-2.0.50-i686-pc-linux-gnu.tar.gz
Policy Web Agent: Apache_2.0.54_agent_2.2_RHAS3.0.tar.gz
Could not find the issue/solution for this problem on internet... Please suggest if anyone has some solution to this.

Once I had an iAS 1.0.2.2 running without problems. However after installing Patch 7 for Forms (released 27 august 2001) I get exactly the same error messages as Pieter. I have tried starting apache as administrator, comment out mod_ose, set wv_gateway_cfg, but none seem to work. Please help.

Macbook does not start after installing Leopard

I installed/upgraded to Leopard but had to cancel it despite the warning that the machine maz not be able to start up again. Hours later i started the mac again and the installation programe came on immedialtey. Installation was completed but on the restart it gets stuck. It just loads )apple sign with little loading sign below) but nothing happens!
Please help!!

If you bought your RAM at a place that also sells PC RAM you may have gotten mislabelled RAM. PCs can handle different RAM speeds so they’ll often label higher speed RAM as a lower speed rather than make two different speeds of RAM. But Macs are much more picky. They require a RAM stick to be exactly 667mhz not 675mhz or 800mhz. The way to tell is to put one of your old RAM sticks in and it will force the new RAM to run at the correct speed.
This is from one review of PNY RAM:
"These modules are actually 800Mhz. PNY no longer makes or sells 667Mhz modules. Not all computers that require 667Mhz are compatible with 2 800Mhz modules. They refuse to down clock properly. This is especially true with a number of Core 2 Duo MacBooks. Spoke to PNY support, they flat out told me that yes, they sell 800Mhz modules in 667Mhz packaging. If you RMA a module that is 667Mhz (or supposed to be 667Mhz) they will replace it with an 800Mhz module as they no longer have any 667Mhz SODIMMs, not even for RMA replacement!"

InDesign does not start after installing it first time due to missing plug ins ("Zusatzmodule")

Hello,
I was using up to now InDesign CS3, but I bought the upgrade to InDesign CS 6.
After installing the new version I tried to start it, but during the start it complains about missing plugins and stops.
So, I can not run CS 6.
The missing modules are: SVG Export.apln and Dynamicdosuments.rpln.
What can I do to make CS 6 running?

thank you for your answer.
I have to admit, that unfortunately I dont understand the reply. I was uninstalling, running the Adobe CS cleaner tool for CS 6, reinstalling (as suggested in other entryies of the forum). No improvement.
Question A: Do I have to run the cleaner tool for all CS including CS 3? I am a bit afraid of side effects and have nothing running afterwards. Since nobody confirmed in the forum that this will help I dont dare to play around.
Question B: Coming back to your proposal, what do you mean by proper admin privileges? I am the only user on this laptop and never did something to any admin configurations.
Finally, I installed CS 6 on another laptop. This works. However, this one I dont want or can't work with for other reasons.

[SOLVED] Gnome 3 does not follow Xorg InputClasses

Hi,
I own two keyboards with two different layouts.
Before I was using kde and I could configure the layouts using Xorg's InputClasses to match the devices: kde was just not messing with xorg's configuration.
Now with gnome 3 (3.4 and now 3.6), it seems gnome insists in using its own settings and spoils everything that can be done with Xorg.
Is there anybody with an idea of how I can tell gnome to not take care of my input devices settings?

I was having problems with setting the keyboard layout in Gnome via the xorg config files (adding Option "XkbLayout" "gb" to the catch-all keyboard layout which used to work just wan't having any effect) until I discovered that Gnome appears to require you to set the keyboard layout in its own Keyboard applet. Follow the Keyboard Layout link on the main tab and add the layout you need while removing the default US one. Worked for me so hope it helps.
