[SOLVED] Installing WINE apps in a different location by default

Unless I'm misreading the wiki, it says:
To create a default prefix without running a Windows program or other GUI tool you can use:
$ env WINEPREFIX=~/.customprefix wineboot -u
I did that, then deleted my ~/.wine folder.  Then I ran:
$ wine control
and it created ~/.wine all over again.
What I'm trying to do is to install WINE apps to a different location every time by default.  I do not want to use ~/.wine at all.

Your WINEPREFIX only takes effect for the first command.
Instead, use e.g.:
export WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.whatever
wineboot -u
wine control
That worked.  I added it to my ~/.bashrc

  • Installing wine apps from AUR, no install UI shows?

    Hello
I have been unable to install the netflix-desktop app and pipelight from the aur.
The thing is that i start the installation process from terminal (yaourt -S pipelight) and when there is supposed to popup a installation wizard gui, i get nothing, just the terminal showing some weird output (the sort of output you see when you start a gui app from the terminal).
Any ideas on how i can fix the issue?
    Thanks

there's no graphical wizard that pops up, when you install pipelight (and by extension, wine-silverlight) it does it all in the terminal. building wine-silverlight takes some time, so be patient

  • Install Premiere Pro CC to different location

I did a trial of Adobe cloud. It installs to the default drive, but has settings to allow me to set the install directory for apps. However after doing a trial download of Premiere Pro, it and the encoder ended up on the default drive instead of the directory I selected for apps. Currently it's an issue for me because I can only do image backup of my default drive, but I can do a normal folder/file backup with the ability to verify and do selective restores on a different partition. I'm also considering switching to a SSD driver for the operating system, so I need to minimize what is installed on the default drive.

You don't... you export from PProCC as MPEG2 DVD and import the two (audio and video) files into EncoreCS6 for authoring
CS6 is the final Encore http://www.adobe.com/products/encore/faq.html

  • [SOLVED] Installed Win 7, now Arch won't boot

Edit: To save anyone reading this all the way, the problem turned out to be a badly edited fstab. Sigh.
    PROBLEM:
Grub loads, then loads the kernel, but the boot hangs a few seconds later with no real error messages.
    BACKGROUND:
    1) I needed to boot a native Windows 7 partition on my 128GB laptop SSD.
    2) So, I used gparted in an Ubuntu Live USB to resize my existing Arch partition and create an NTFS partition for Win 7:
    sda > sda1=Arch > sda2=ntfs > sda3=linux swap
Arch still booted fine after this (sda1).
    3) I then installed windows 7 (BIOS install) onto the second partition (sda2). I don't know where or if it puts some system reserved partition - but I can't see anything in gparted.
    4) chrooted from an Arch Live USB, reinstalled GRUB, including mkconfig step
    5) *If* I recall, Arch then booted OK.
    6)  Booted into Windows and applied all updates, set windows to use UTC clock and updated my laptops BIOS. Reboot.
    7) Win 7 boots fine from the grub menu from (hd0,2)
    8) Arch starts booting, loads the kernel, then hangs after the kernel has loaded, but before gdm appears. With the following on screen:
    [2.104597] INFO @wl_cfg80211_attach : Registered CFG80211 phy
I have tried chrooting and reinstalling linux and linux-headers and grub. But so far to no avail.
    [SOLVED with face palm]
I installed syslinux using chroot, as it displays more startup messages. The boot was hanging at [a disk task is starting] or words to that effect. It was my USB stick, which I'd foolishly added to fstab with the "auto" option. Editing that out of fstab - and it's all good.
I'll leave this here in case anyone else does something this dumb.

Thanks for the clarification about the DAEMONS list. My DAEMONS list is:

when I try to enable alsa and dbus I get this
    [root@andre ~]# systemctl enable alsa-store.service
The unit files have no [Install] section. They are not meant to be enabled using systemctl.
    [root@andre ~]# systemctl enable alsa-restore.service
The unit files have no [Install] section. They are not meant to be enabled using systemctl.
    [root@andre ~]# systemctl enable dbus.service

Is LVM handled automatically by systemd? The reason I ask is because I have the USELVM= set to YES in rc.conf.
I made the permanent transition to systemd and did not start alsa at all - sound works fine - so I never bothered with the alsa-store/alsa-restore service files at all - it just works! Also dbus gets handled by default in systemd so you don't need any starting of dbus service at all... it just works.

  • Can I install Creative Cloud on a different location on my computer

I need more room on my C drive, I wanted to install the desktop onto the D drive, I uninstalled the app but it keeps on installing back on my C drive, Please help

That is a terrible design.  As a software developer I am appalled that this product was released to the public and doesn't allow for custom installation directory.  The C:\ is a reserved drive for the operating system and the fact that Adobe hijacks that without even asking for alternatives is a terrible design in their software.
I just subscribed to the CC system and am discussed that I have to install it on my C:\  I REALLY hope that someone reads these and gets the developers to add an alternative to the installation directory for the desktop app.  As I am very close to canceling my subscription and getting a refund.

  • Can you install an app in two different ipads with the same apple id ?

Do a search on the iPad that you downloaded it onto.
Swipe to the right from the home screen and Type "Google Earth" (no quotation marks) in the search field at the top. See if it appears.
Restart the iPad and see if the app appears.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • Photo's in different location (not default)?

After backing up, I've recently rebuilt my system. I'm now in the process of re-installing the software, copying files back over etc.
I have 2 partitions on my drive now - System & Data.
iPhoto is running from the Apps folder on the System partition, but I want my photo's to be stored on the Data partition.
    How do I do this?
    Thanks.
    iMac 2.0Ghz 20"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

To move the iPhoto library (not the actual application) simply move the iPhoto Library folder to the desired location. Option-launch iPhoto, select "Choose Library" and navigate to the new location. iPhoto will open the library from there, and it will be used there by default until you change it.

  • If I re-install my podcast app with a different apple ID will I lose all the media from the older one ?

I have the Podcast app installed on my iPhone with a lot if free media content downloaded.
Now I need to re-install the app with a different apple ID.
Will I lose all my content by doing do ?
Please help. I don't want to lose anything.
Please let me know if there is a work-around.

You don't really want a new Apple Account (which is what you are describing) - all of your iTunes purchases will still be tied to the old Apple Account, all of your iCloud info will be under that old Account, all of your Messages will be under that old Account.
Why not just to to Manage your Apple ID and edit your Apple ID to the new email you want it to be? You cannot edit an Apple ID using an Apple Domain email address (@me.com, @mac.com, @iCloud.com), but if your current ID is not using one of those type of email addresses, then changing it is the way you want to go. That way, everything stays with the Apple ID since it is the same Apple account.
Just be sure to sign out of all apps on the device (iCloud, Messages, iTunes & App Store, FaceTime) before you change it.
To EDIT your current Apple ID at Manage your Apple ID go to: Apple - My Apple ID

  • How to get errors and/or air.trace() from installed air app?

I'm trying to debug an installed air app that behaves
differently once installed than when run with adl. However, i can't
figure out any way to get errors or air.trace() information. I am
on OS X (10.5.6). Any tips?
I imagine this should be easy since debugging an installed
app is pretty much a necessity for development.

You can enable logging to a text file using settings in the
    mm.cfg file. See
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_19323
Note that ALL trace output will go to the log.
Other things you can do are:
    1. Run the installed app with adl -- just pass the installed
app descriptor to adl on the command line
    2. Supply a publisher id to adl. This removes one difference
between installed/ not installed apps and may be enough if the
behavior issue has to do with local connections or other matters
    involving the publisher id.
    3. Use the adl -nodebug flag. This removes another difference
between installed/uninstalled apps. You won't see uncaught
exceptions, but trace statements are still reported.

  • Install AIR App to userspace location by default

I would like for my AIR App installer to choose to install to a userspace location by default.
On Mac OSX this would be $HOME/Applications rather than the system space /Applications
On Windows this would perhaps be %HOME%\AppData instead of the system space c:\Program Files
I realize that during the install process, the user can manually specify their userspace, but I would like for the installer to default to userspace.

    try this one:
In the address bar, type "about:config", which will give you a large list of the configuration options and press I'LL BE CAREFUL, I PROMISE.
In the filter box, type "keyword"
Find and Double click the '''keyword.url''' line and overwrite with the following:
    http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&cr=countryAU&tbs=ctr%3AcountryAU&q=
tell us if this working for you, thank you

  • Install in different locations.

    Hello
Is it possible to install different CS3 components in different locations or must they all be installed in the same place?
I attempted to install the first set of components, and when I went to install the second set, it only allowed my to add them to the same location that the others were in.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Eli

It is best to let the installer put the apps in the default location in the applications folder. there seem to enough problems with the updater why make the problem worse.
