[SOLVED] Internal Microphone on Acer Aspire 1410

My microphone works on Windows but not on any Linux. Its been like this for a while now and I'm tired of using Windows so I'm determined to get my microphone working on ArchLinux. Everything else is perfect... Anyway lets start.
My sound works absolutely fine, my microphone is NOT muted, I have gone through all the steps on the wiki for fixing sound/internal microphones. Yet my microphone is not working. I've tried it on a root account so its not a permission issue either. Here are some outputs, please tell me if anything else is needed to determine the problem. Though I have experience with Linux I wouldn't consider myself an expert, and I know even less about the workings of sound cards.

well I'm not really sure of anything when it comes to this stuff, and this is why I'm here.
But it wasn't working before I started blacklisting things, just followed the wiki and blacklisted stuff that were said to work.
Recently I found a thing on the wiki for Acer One laptops (not mine but similar). It was to compile the alsa-driver with --with-card=hda_intel --with-card-options=hda_codec_realtek
this seams like it should work for me because even on windows my microphone doesn't work (but my sound does) until I install the realtek driver.
But now I have a different problem, aur's alsa-driver, though I can compile it with these options, when it gets to my system it seems orphaned and useless. I don't think my system is using it. Do you know what the reason for this might be? If the compiled "alsa-driver" package will work then how do I get that package to work on my system?
I will take all the blacklists out and reinstall all the sound functionality (starting with the new "alsa-driver". If you can think of anything please tell me.
oh and fyi I believe this laptop has mono-audio, could that be a reason I have only two channels?

  • HELP! Acer Aspire 1410-8410: How to create a Win 7 back-up image for clean reinstall?

Hi, I'm trying to create a disk for back-up of the Win 7, but I don't have Acer eRecovery installed on my computer when I looked everything to find the program... Anyone can give me some idea how can I do it???Thanks a lot in advance!

There is not a download for the recovery management, it is installed on the system on a hidden partition unless the hard drive configuration is changed to free up space. That typically involves deleting partitions and such, not something a typical user messes with. Try the steps in this article to see if you can get the process started.

  • [SOLVED]pm-utils problems, acer aspire one 721

    Hi,
I got a new laptop for christmas, slowly I've been getting it up and running.  Tonight I decided to try to get suspend and hibernation working.  I followed the archwiki guide, I removed the autodetect hook and added resume hook in mkinitcpio.conf.  I've tried using a different backend uswsusp.  So far the problems have remained the same.
In pm-suspend, the netbook will turn off and the power leds will flash, when I press a button the system comes back, so the hd spins up a couple leds flash ... But the screen remains blank, I've tried typing some commands to reboot but nothing really works only a hard reset gets it going again.
In pm-hibernate.  My screen goes dark except for a "_" in the top left corner the power leds turn orange and keep flashing but the computer never goes off.
In /var/log/pm-suspend.log I can't find any errors.  Any ideas how to get this working?
Does pm-utils have problems with laptop-mode or cpufreq? Got those running yesterday.

VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc M880G [Mobility Radeon HD 4200]
    It's a ati radeon mobility 4225.
I'm currently using catalyst-daemon from aur.  Pretty much the catalyst driver with a daemon which checks on boot if the kernel was updated.
Pm-utils has no problem with laptop-mode or cpufreq-utils.
    Also, did you try this: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ac … wer_button ?
Haven't tried that yet, I didn't use it because according to the lspci my system is much different from the one in the wiki is based on intel.  I have an AMD based system.  Currently I have removed laptop-mode, I also read that pm-utils and laptop-mode-tools do have hooks for some of the same things, so I decided to first get suspend and hibernate working then continue customizing. I don't use the lid to go into sleep mode at the moment I'm running the commands from a root terminal.
Here's my lspci.  I could try installing the other kernel.

  • [Not Solved] linux 3.4.0 and internal microphone issues

I'm happy with linux-ck, but since I've updated to 3.4 the internal microphone of my laptop (the webcam's) refuses to work, giving no sound or an awful noise. The snd_ modules loaded are exactly the same of a working 3.3.7 stock kernel, and I don't know if a similar problem happens with the 3.4 stock kernel as well, which is still in testing.
Has anyone had a similar issue? Can you suggest something to narrow down the problem?
I'll provide further details if needed.
    Thanks

hermes wrote:Neither of the previous two worked. The pre-compiled kernel has the same problem, and storing/restoring alsa state did nothing.
I also tried removing options snd-hda-intel model=ACER. I'm wondering if it's a 3.4 problem with my hardware. I will try 3.4 in [testing] and maybe file a bug, if the mic still doesn't work.
If you verify that Linux-ck is not to blame and that the bug is also present in the ARCH kernel package, please edit your first post's title to not include "Linux-ck."

Hi people of the archlinux forum.
Finally I decided to change from ubuntu to archlinux because I wanted to learn more about the world of linux.:D

I have the same problem with my Acer Aspire 5100 (video ATI Xpress1100).
xorg.conf is not used. Turning KMS off doesn`t help.
I have tried to use uswsusp, but it doesn`t help. s2ram -n output correctly identify my laptop, which means it is in "whitelist" and correct settings for this hardware is known. s2ram suspend works, but screen blinking after waking up remains the same.

  • [SOLVED] Questions on Acer Aspire One netbook resolution

I've been digging through the wiki and googling everything, but I just can't figure out how to get the dang resolution right!
I've got an Acer Aspire One (D257, model ZE6) and technically, it should be 1024 x 600. Everything seems like it's the right size, but it's just slightly blurry and looking at it makes me a bit dizzy, like it's just slightly off. I've read that the Acer netbooks are SIZED to 1024x600 but use the RESOLUTION of 1024x768. Could anyone confirm this? Am I way off base?
The wiki suggests using xrandr to change the resolution, but I get the BADMATCH error. The solutions I googled mostly involve editing an xorg.conf, which doesn't exist. Trying to generate it myself always fails (xorg -configure, which always leads to "number of created screens does not match number of detected devices").
Maybe I've just missed something really obvious... But I can't seem to find it.

OH MY GOD. I followed the wiki to a T, but when I double-checked, I didn't have i915 listed in the MODULES="" line. So I must have not saved it, in my hurry to get everything going. My desktop looked okay-ish, but my web browser was resizing text improperly, hence the 'dizzy' effect.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for catching my silly oversight!
Gusar wrote:I wouldn't say "crappy display", I'd say you don't like the default anti-aliasing.
This is also true, though... My next task is to find better anti-aliasing that I can get along with. The default just isn't cutting it, now that I can see it clearly.

  • [SOLVED]Acer Aspire V5-571 backlight problem

    Hi,
I have Acer Aspire V5-571 laptop with intel HD 4000 graphics.I used to control backlight with intel driver, but after reinstalling arch there is no intel_backlight0 folder in /sys/class/backlight directory, only acpi_video0 folder.I have the lastest intel driver 2.21.2-1 and kernel version 3.7.7-1.
    Thanks.

    Fixed in kernel 3.9.2-1

  • [Solved] NVidia Drivers on an Acer Aspire 7520

I'll keep it short and simple. I got this laptop, an Acer Aspire 7520.
Everything works. Except the graphics in Arch.
I've had to fall back on using nouveau instead of the nvidia driver - maybe it is or isn't better, but I can't get the nvidia one to work.
When installing Arch, when the time comes to test X, is fails with the error that it can't load the .ko module. Can be reproduced also by trying to run 'modprobe nvidia' as root.
Given that my attempts to try and put up with Vista just came to a stop with it's rather poor excuse for a network manager being incapable of getting an IP address from the DHCP server, I'd like to get this sorted.
Oh, almost forgot. The laptop is 64-bit capable - but with approx 2GB of RAM, even though it's a dual core, the benefits of running a 64-bit OS on it probably wouldn't show up. So it's a 32-bit Arch instead.
Besides, Arch64 is a pest when it comes to stuff not made for x86_64.
    Anyway.
That's the problem. Is there a fix for this, which doesn't involve using a different driver?
    Thanks,
    Grem.

This is what is currently in the 10-monitor.conf file:
    Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "Monitor0"
    EndSection
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "Device0"
    Driver "nouveau"
    EndSection
    Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Screen0"
    Device "Device0"
    Monitor "Monitor0"
    DefaultDepth 24
    SubSection "Display"
    Depth 24
    Modes "1440x900_60"
    EndSubSection
    EndSection
To change it to nvidia, I'm unfortunately at a loss for what to put in exactly.
    'uname -r' returns:
    2.6.24-ARCH
I use the stock kernel. I haven't felt adventurous enough to try making my own custom one yet, which is one of the reasons I went off Gentoo. They can claim it's easy all they like, my only attempt on Gentoo didn't work in the slightest.
    Anyway.
Unless I'm looking in the wrong place, running 'tail /var/log/dmesg.log' both before and after modprobe shows absolutely no difference at all. Nothing is added to it in the slightest.

  • [SOLVED] Acer Aspire One D250 LAN not detected.

    Hi guys,
Cant seem to find anyone on the net that has the same problem as me, but here it goes.
I have a Acer Aspire One D250, Id really like to run linux on it. There are dozens of posts on the web explaining you need to install the drivers from the Atheros site because the output of lspci is wrong.
Well, the problem that i am having with Arch is that lspci doesnt even show my network card, and as soon as i boot, the light on the physical card turns on, but never goes off (almost like it hangs...)
Ive included the output of Arch's lspci where its not visible, and the output of the ubuntu live netbook remix where it is visible just as the wrong name.
Its almost like arch wants to load the wrong driver and then the card just freezes.... but i dont know, im not a fiull blown linux expert...
Hope someone can help me because its driving me crazy.

again, no internet information available, although someone posted about editing the source file, but getting send and transmit errors once the driver was loaded into the kernel.
    thanks for the help.
P.S. compiling this thing under ubuntu was no problem, and it worked instantly.

  • [SOLVED] Acer Aspire One - Wireless issue + Wpa_supplicant

    Hi there!
I've been using arch on both my desktop and laptop for a while, with wpa_supplicant working perfectly for both of them (University 802.1x auth) I have a config file which works perfectly on the same wireless network with my laptop, but on the netbook I just can't seem to get on it. It's an Acer Aspire One - A150.
This computer uses as we know an atheros chip, which I just can't seem to get working. My laptop on the other hand uses an ipw2200 chip which works fine.
I've installed the madwifi modules, and when doing iwconfig i can see wlan0 listed.  If i try to scan for wireless ap's with "iwlist wlan0 scan" it does not find anything.
Doing "wpa_supplicant -Dmadwifi -iwlan0 -c/..../wpa_supplicant.conf -dd " produces the following error
    [henrik@scribble ~]$ sudo wpa_supplicant -Dmadwifi -iwlan0 -c/home/henrik/wpa_supplicant.conf -dd

    two things:
    1. Your computer should be using the ath5k driver for the ar5007 chipset that your netbook has... and
    2. If the opensource approach doesn't work for you, build this driver.
    p.s. (wlan0 will be renamed to ath0)

  • Re: Satellite Pro L500-1PU - internal microphone does not work

    I have an L500 -1PU Toshiba, running on 32 bit Windows 7,
The webcam is working wonderfully but the internal microphone is not working properly.
I had an external microphone so i hadn't noticed this problem when i got on skype, but i've recently discovered that when using the webcam the person on the other end can hear faint noises from my computer when i'm playing music or watching a video clip.
How can i solve this and get my microphone working properly such that i can control the volume and actually get full service from my otherwise decent notebook?
    Thanks

    Hi
Possibly this Toshiba FAQ could help you:
+Whistling sound on the Satellite L500+
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB0402UB0001R01.htm
Its a matter of the settings.
This issue occurs if the microphone volume in the speakers properties is enabled.
After disabling this point the issue with acoustic feedback does not appear anymore.
    Hope this helps!
