[SOLVED] - KDE4.2 vanilla and compiz don't play

toad@archie ~> kde4-window-decorator --replace
kde4-window-decorator: error while loading shared libraries: libplasma.so.2: cannot open shared object file: Nosuch file or directory
A locate libplasma comes up with versions 3 and 4 but no 2 and a pacman -Qo tells me libplasma is part of kdebase-workspace which is prolly hard to downgrade (but what do I know!).
Not that I hate emerald, but I do prefer kde4
Any ideas out there?

Good luck

Okay, so now I know which package it belongs to. Thing is, I'm already proud that I've achieved that! As for compiling against the current plasma lib, I'm afraid I haven't got a clue what you are talking about (but more than willing to learn if some compassionate soul will hold my hand or point me in the right direction).

I'm new to the Apple products. How can I view pdf files and videos since Apple and Adobe don't play together? Also, what operating system does the iPhone use? I'm a Windows person.

You may want to download and read the manual for your phone. It may answer a lot of the basic questions.

There is an app on your phone called "Mail". Yes, it's for reading your email.

  • I downloaded itunes update 10.5 and now all tunes I have downloaded from Walmart and Amazon don't play on my PC properly.  How can I fix this?

I downloaded intues update 10.5 to my PC and now all the music I have downloaded from other venues, Walmart and Amazon don't play correctly.  How can this be corrected?  I am currently using windows XP.

I have an ITunes account.  I got it when I got my IPOD.  I've thought about upgrading, but I didn't see any reason to buy a newer IPOD because they all come with so much stuff I don't want/need.  I don't have my current IPOD filled yet and I really don't need an IPOD Touch that has capabilities that my Droid already has.  I don't need to be concerned with documents, mail, attaching to Facebook or playing games.  I can do all that on my phone.  I just want to maintain my music between 3 devices.
So now that I see it is not to my benefit to have this product---can you point me in the direction to cancel this?  And how do I get my music back?  Will it show up once I cancel my account?

  • HT1657 What happens when you rent movies and they don't play? How come that question is not on the list?

What happens when you rent movies and they don't play and you tried getting credit for it?  I rented two movies which they were very very old movies in black & white and they both don't play.  I never had this problem before even when downloading videos. Now how can I get credit for it?  I contact itunes a number of times and no one has done nothing as of yet.  Itunes also asked me for my order number which I sent them but still no credit.

Several  songs have the cloud symbol with a red arrow and I think they play. But the ones with the red circle and red square in the center do not play. Can this be fixed> What does it mean?
    Thanks in advance,

    See this Apple support document.

You'll notice that the problem is usually associated with a failed/damaged hard drive, meaning you'll likely need to have your iPod serviced if you want to get it working again.

    - re-installing iTunes and Quicktime to both earlier versions

And when I want to put it on my iPod it crashes everything..
Anyone know whats wrong? Or does anyone have the same problem?

    Hello,
You can find additional information and troubleshooting steps from the following article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2729
The symptom you mention is addressed in one of the FAQ's on the page.
Have you tried one of the free videos from the iTunes Store? You can find free video and music content on the iTunes Store. The "Free on iTunes" section is generally towards the bottom of the center column of the window.

  • [SOLVED] xcompmgr, feh and openbox don't play nice

    Hey,
I started using Openbox with xcompmgr a few days ago. I start xcompmgr in .xinitrc, then a few apps later Openbox (see .xinitrc file). Problem is, xcompmgr paints my background gray. Calling feh later doesn't paint a new background image. I read in the wiki that the problem is with xcompmgr and the solution is to use hsetroot (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xco … Openbox.29).  This doesn't solve the problem for me. All it does is paint my background before xcompmgr repaints it gray. If it matters, my login manager's SLIM and this is my .xinitrc:
    #!/bin/sh
    # ~/.xinitrc
    # Executed by startx (run your window manager from here)
    hsetroot -solid "#000066"
    xcompmgr -cfF && feh --bg-scale /home/gal/Pictures/fiji.JPG &
    tint2 &
    tilda &
    gnome-power-manager &
    xscreensaver --no-splash &
    sleep 5
    feh --bg-scale /home/gal/Pictures/fiji.JPG &
    conky -b &
    exec ck-launch-session openbox-session
    # exec startkde
    # exec startxfce4
    # ...or the Window Manager of your choice
Any comments about how to sole this problems are welcome.
EDIT: The sleep 5 statement was to try to make feh work by giving it some brake. Sadly it did not help.

I use similar settings to yours, but:
    - they are in ~/.config/openbox/autostart.sh
    - no "hsetroot"
    - nitrogen, instead of feh
Besides: why did you place xcompmgr and feh on the same line? Did you try with two different lines, one for each command?

  • [SOLVED] After upgrade gdm and Gnome don't work.

    Hi,
after I did an upgrade I had some ldconfig: errors and fixed them all using pkgfile and reinstallation of quite some packages.
    But now starting gdm with
    # systemctl start gdm
only leads to a black screen with a cross shaped cursor I can move. Nothing more.
Xorg works -- I'm writing this post from KDE.
I reinstalled gnome and gnome-extra. Still no success.
    System is up to date.
Hopefully my logs will help, I have no idea what to do. Thanks for any help. :)

    Finally managed fixed it.
libcanberra-pulse from [extra] was broken. I reinstalled it with --force.
Likely that came with the recent pulseaudio upgrade.

  • [SOLVED] MPD and Mplayer don't play nice

At the moment, I have to kill the MPD process in order to get MPlayer to play sound, otherwise a 'resource is busy' type message comes up.
I'm using alsa and using self compiled Mplayer (from svn).
    Any suggestions?

In /etc/mpd.conf, go to the "audio_output" section and comment the lines "device" and "format" (thoses lines are marked as optionnal).
Now restart mpd, and it will work as any other alsa application.
Ah worked like a charm! Thanks bud

  • OOo and openjdk don't play after recent update on 86_64

Just did an update this morning and got a new openjdk package - I thought no ill of it 'cos OOo supposedly supports openjdk on x86_64.
Well, it appears it doesn't as I keep on getting an error message when I open a particular document. I then have to kill soffice to get out of the loop of error messages, restart OOo, look in tools, options, etc. to find java for OOo. But none are listed.
I haven rebooted yet 'cos the box is busy until tomorrow morning at least - could that be the solution, a simple reboot?

Well, after checking this http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=63349 I did a pacman -Syy to no effect and ended up installing jre proper
    pacman -S jre
Now at least I have a working system again. na12, this should do it for you as well. Tell OOo it has a new java environment available in /opt/java and things should work fine.
Let me know how you get on so I can mark this thread at least as semi-solved...

  • Firefox, Quicktime, Flash, and Vista don't play well

I have a problem with Quicktime. When I install quicktime on my Vista machine, it takes over the Flash Plugin in Firefox, my most used web browser. Firefox has no options to tell it "Don't use Quicktime, use Flash!". When I was directed to the MIME settings, I found that they do not exist in Vista. When I click the MIME settings button, it sends me to a Windows-Run default setting panel when I set the file types associated with Quicktime. It turns out that click the File Types button and the MIME settings brings me to the same place. The only solution I have for this thus far is to uninstall quicktime, but that leaves iTunes unable to run. If anyone has a way to fix this, please tell me. It has been grating on my nerves; I've found Apple not to helpful in the "support" department.
    Thanks.

I'm running into the same issue.
I've gone into Default Settings on Vista and associated all quicktime file types to my preferred WMP and made WMP the default for every applicable application. However this doesn't keep quicktime from opening movie/streaming video files when I use the Firefox browser.
So in the end...you can steer every file association preference away from quicktime that you want, (I did) but it still opens movies/streaming video in Firefox.

  • HT4915 When u lock your phone and pop up the music thing u click on play and it don't play why could that be?

    iPhone 5

Ok, I had a glitch, forced to restart, and lost my train of thought.
Reinstalling iTunes should fix the major issue that might have gone wrong, perhaps your explaination points will disappear and everything will be peachy again.
But if they don't, you can open the XML file in iTunes Folder using a Text edit program to see what the common pathname is to the iTunes Music folder or where your content is located.
If you moved the itunes folder, it needs to go back.
I can't  download iTunes to my Vista virtual machine to test it out right now because iTunes is down, so I can't verify the pathname, perhaps your issue and the iTunes being down are related somehow?
You don't want to import all your music again, but it's a option, but you lose all your playlists, that's what I'm trying to recover.
If oyu don't have a whole lot of playlists, then simply select all the explaimation point music and delete, select File from the menu and import your itunes folder again.

  • Actiontec dsl Gateway and WRT160N don't play well together

I have an actiontec dsl gateway router as my entry point to the network that also provides one wireless zone downstairs. Upstairs where the signal is weak I had long used an apple airport connected via ethernet cable. Then the apple died and I chose to replace it with a WRT160n. Although everything checked out fine during configuration, it would drop connections and although it appeared was impossible sometimes to connect to with lots of timeouts etc.
Now the entire network has slowed down considerably. After I took off the new router things sped up again. Any ideas on how to set this up better or troubleshoot what's happening?

Adjust the Wireless Settings on your Router -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...Under Setup change the MTU to 1350 and save the changes...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
    Click on the Wireless tab
    - Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
    - Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...
    - Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
    For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WEP, Encryption should be 64 bit.Leave the passphrase blank, don't type in anything...
Under WEP Key 1 type in any 10 numbers please(numbers only and no letters eg: your 10 digit phone number) and click on save settings...
Please make a note of WEP Key 1 as this is the Security Key for the Wireless Network...
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...
