[SOLVED] Location of header files (for vmware tools)

Attempting to install VMWare Tools (http://www.vmware.com/support/ws5/doc/w … linux.html) for my Archlinux guest, encountered this question:
What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running
kernel? [/usr/src/linux/include]
I found a few old posts saying to use the AUR package, but I can't per my divisions linux server policies (no non-official repositories). Are these included by default, or do I need to get them via some package? Is this kernels-26-headers package, or similar?
Last edited by Intrepidus (2010-10-25 22:38:07)

Thanks, that got me a bit farther than before. I've now gone from that error to this error:
The directory of kernel headers (version @@VMWARE@@ UTS_RELEASE) does not match your running kernel (version 2.6.35-ARCH). Even if the module were to compile successfully, it would not load into the running kernel.
This was after pointing it to /usr/src/linux-2.6.35-ARCH/include. Any ideas what the story is now?
EDIT: Had to copy utsrelease.h and autoconf.h to version.h and autoconf.h, respectively, to /usr/src/linux-2.6.35-ARCH/include/linux.

    InDesign 7.5 is actually CS5.5, which is NOT the sme thing as CS5, so that may be the root of the problem here. When you open InDesign, and hold down the Ctrl key while you click on About InDesign inthe Help menu, waht version is leisted in the upper left corner of the About dialog?

  • Diappearing photos replaced by an exclamation point within a triangle.  Prior to loading Lion I could put the image number in finder and locate the original file for that photo.  How do I restore photos now?

    I had problems with photos disappearing and being replaced by an exclamation point within a triangle.  I can see the photo in the thumbnail summary but when you click on it, the screen goes black and the exclamation point within a triangle appears along with the info on the original image number (i.e., img_1120.jpg). Prior to loading Lion, I could go to Finder, enter the image number and locate the original file for that photo.  I could then restore it for editing, copying into Print Shop directly, etc.   That no longer works after installing Lion.   How do I restore photos now?  I have 100s of photos that I have been going back to the original files and restoring and I am frantic that I will no longer be able to get to the original files.  Please help!  Thanks

    The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later:
    Option 1
    Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
    Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
    Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

    I have initially installed virtualbox before upgrading the Arch

    Later  installed xorg and want to install the video drivers from VBox additions
    but running

    i get the following
    install build and header files for your current kernel
    The current kernel version is 2.6.28 Arch
    What are the build and header files I have to install or search with pacman
    And since i have upgraded the system will I able to look up the header and build files needed for kernel 2.6.28

    dmartins - he's talking about his kernel's headers, not the kernel-headers package - they are two very differnet things.
    sant527 - when you backed up the 2.6.28 kernel, did you remember the files in /usr/src/linux-2.6.28-ARCH/ ? They're what VBox is looking for.

  • Header file for GUI in CVI

    Hi
            I have created the GUI by adding different controls. When I make some changes in that
    xxx.uir file and save it, it automatically do the changes in xxx.h file.
    But If want to #define the values for all the controls, how to do that.
    For eg :
    Autogenerated xxx.h file has
    #define  PANEL                                          1
    #define  PANEL_CHECKBOX_1                   2
    #define  PANEL_CHECKBOX_5                 3
    #define  PANEL_LED_1                              4
    #define  PANEL_CHECKBOX_2                  5
    #define  PANEL_CHECKBOX_3                  6
    #define  PANEL_LED_2                             7
    #define  PANEL_CHECKBOX_4                  8
    But I want to edit it like
    #define  PANEL                                          1
    #define  PANEL_CHECKBOX_1                   2
    #define  PANEL_CHECKBOX_2                   3
    #define  PANEL_CHECKBOX_3                   4
    #define  PANEL_CHECKBOX_4                   5
    #define  PANEL_CHECKBOX_5                   6
    #define  PANEL_LED_2                               11
    #define  PANEL_LED_1                              12
    Is it possible to do that?
    Please any one help me on this
    Regards

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Nagraj,
    The autogenerated gui header files should not be edited directly.
    CVI assigns control IDs according to their tab order in the UIR panel.
    To modify the tab order, activate the panel you want to edit and press Ctrl + T.
    This opens a tab-order-editor where you can set the tab order simply by clicking the controls in that desired order.
    After you save the file, the header gets refreshed with the new control IDs.
    Hope this helps,
    P.S: If you want to change these control IDs just to access them in a loop,
    I suggest you to put the control IDs in an array and then use the for loop variable as the array's index.
    e.g:
    int i;
    int ctrlArr[5] = {PANEL_RUN_BUTTON, PANEL_LED, PANEL_RING,  PANEL_TABLE, PANEL_STOP_BUTTON};
    for (i=0; i<5; i++)
    // good
    SetCtrlAttribute (panel, ctrlArr[i], ATTR_DIMMED, 0);
    // bad
    // SetCtrlAttribute (panel, i, ATTR_DIMMED, 0);

  • How do I export detached audio files as separate files, for Pro Tools processing?

    My project is a live band performance. I have every song as a separate Event with associated audio. I have detachd all the audio from all the video Events. I now want to Export the audio files to Pro Tools for editing, then Import the edited audio back into FCP X and snap the edited audio to the associated video Events.
    My problem is this: FCP X keeps exporting the audio as a single large WAV file, rather than as separate WAV files. In fact, the video events are separate, and so the audio associated with the video Events are separate.
    I first renamed the Role of every audio file as "Music", then did a Share --> Export Media of all "Music" audio Roles. After exporting, I found it was one large WAV file, rather than separate files of different sizes.
    As a 2nd try, I created Sub-Roles for each audio clip, and named each one with a distinct Sub-Role name. I then Exported all these Sub-Roles (yes, tedious). The result was that every exported WAV file was the same size, the same as the file size in my first try. The only audio that could be heard in each file was the audio in that particular song, but FCP X still created the very large file with silence in all the rest of the file. Since the file lengths don't match the original audio fil lengths, there will be a problem when I Import the edited files back into FCP X and want to Snap them into place.
    Question:
    How can I export the individual detached audio clips as separate files, the length of each file equaling the length of the original audio file in FCP X?
    Do I need to separate the detached audio into separate Layers visually in the Project Timeline, so they are not touching? Or does this matter?
    Help!!

    No.
    You need to explore Compound Clips. This workflow may or may not be of help.
    Select an Event with clips in it and press Option+G to make a (blank) compound clip.
    Select the Event Browser, create a new Event and call it 'Effects'.
    Drag the Compound Clip into this Event.
    Right-click the clip and select 'Open in Timeline'.
    Select the timeline and press Option+W. This will add a Gap Clip to the timeline.
    Select the gap clip and press Ctrl+D then type in the duration you want the clip to be.
    Now open a project and select and copy one of the clips with effects etc.
    Open the Compound Clip in the Timeline again, select the gap clip and press Option+Cmd+V to paste the effects into your Compound Clip.
    This clip is now saved in your Browser and will remain there for you to copy and then paste the effects into any clip in any project.
    It's a bit clunky, but it works - and once you learn about Compound Clips, you can work wonders with them. As an example, if you want to add more effects without overwriting the effects in the Compound Clip, simply make the Compound Clip into a Compound Clip (again) and add the effects. They will be added to the original effects.

  • Ther are PARAMETER LIST DISCREPANCIES in the help file vs the NIDAQ.H header file for GPCTR_Read_Buffer...

    PROBLEM: The function help file contains documentation for using GPCTR_Read_Buffer with 7 parmeters in the parameter list. The NADAQ.H Header file contains 8 parameters in the function declaration. Which is right? What is the correct parameter list and can an example be provided that shows how to use the function correctly? I am currently using DAQ ver 6.92 and a 6602 Counter Timer board in a buffered start/stop or ND_BUFFERED_TWO_SIGNAL_EDGE_SEPARATION_MSR application.

    Thanks for the response Filipe, I'll let you know how it goes. I only went into the header file because example code provided by NI ... paste ...
    iStatus = GPCTR_Read_Buffer(iDevice, ulGpctrNum, ND_READ_MARK, ulReadOffset, ulNumPtsToRead, ulTimeOut, &ulNumPtsRead, pulReadBuf);
    showed use of 8 parameters - in agreement with the header file and in disagreement with the on-line help file function documentation.

  • [SOLVED] How to really install Open VMware Tools?

    I tried the steps shown in the wiki, but it's not working at all. I have Arch+KDE installed in VMware Player 5. The steps I followed for the installation of VMware tools are:
    pacman -S open-vm-tools open-vm-tools-modules
    systemctl enable vmtoolsd.service
    But after a reboot the Tools doesn't seem to work properly, even If I try to restart with the tools enabled the systems hangs on the process.
    Some help will be really appreciated.

    There are some known issues regarding the current versions of the open VMWare tools, check this topic.
    The steps you took provide minimal functionality, at least keeping the clock in sync with the host and handling screen resizing. For copy and paste and shared folders, the wiki has some additional info.
    The system seems to hang on reboot, but proceeds normally after about 90 seconds (it's how long systemd waits before forcefully killing the vmtoolsd daemon).
    Some tips to work around current issues:
    - don't use the latest version of xorg-server (use xorg-server 1.13.0-3 instead)
    - issue a 'killall -9 vmtoolsd; systemctl poweroff' to power off the system

    So please send me reply about this and also if this particular language/techn is still being used which may help me to improve my knowledge

    I am not a Cobol programmer, but I worked several years a Pro*C programmer, this precompiler issue looks very similar to others I have several times faced, when I compiled a pro*C program on different platforms, the makefile had to be tailored to fit the particular platform paths. May be this is happening to you, you should verify the compilation script and ensure the required libraries are visible.

    Hi,
    You will find a list of all functions which can be used in LV PDA applications.
    Il vous faut le module LAbVIEW PDA pour avoir accés à ces foncitons(ci-joint le lien). Sino, vous pouvez créer votre propre driver.
