[SOLVED] Manual IP configuration

Hi,
I have a question about IP configuration. Normally i use:
# dhcpcd eth1
to configure my ip address but how do I do it so I can choose my IP manually?
Thanks in advance

IMO, the best solution is to configure the router (if you have access to it) to assign specific IPs to machines based on their MAC addresses -- that way you can keep using dhcpcd, which is the simplest option.
Another way is to use ifconfig/iwconfig/route tools instead of dhcpcd; or you can use something like netcfg which allows you to create a static IP profile and automates the process for you.
I would prefer using the ifconfig/iwconfig/route tools or netcfg whatever it is. How do I use them?

I know how to change my network settings to fix my internet connection, I just select "Auto-detect network settings for this network" under Tools, Options, Network, Settings. However every time I close down Firefox it reverts to the manual proxy configuration pointing to 127.0.0.1 Port 55414.
I've tried all the suggestions under saving your preferences but this hasn't worked so I'm at a loss as to what to do next. If I can't sort this I'll have to revert back to Internet Explorer as this doesn't have this problem!

Initially, Firefox 4 Beta 8 is installed. Manual Proxy Configuration was used, and worked fine.

Clean install of Beta 9 also exhibits the same problems.

  • Safari 3.0.4 Slow Loading (Manual Network Configuration)

    Hi Everyone,
I'm having problem with Safari loading very slow.
First, due to the need of configuring this MacMini to be shared with a network scanner, the Network IP address need to be configured manually. And since this is not a regularly-used computer, the monitor is being turned off when it's not in used.
The problem comes in when someone try to use Safari. It loads forever! and I mean forever! It seems like it's trying to look for something, but I don't know what!
Does this have anything to do with the manual network configuration and the fact that the screen being turn off?
Interestingly, I also have Firefox installed on this MacMini and it appears to have the same issue.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you,
    Nacintosh520

    Hi
Since you have confirm that "screen has no effect on computer or network operation." I'd like to ask you something about this but not related to the problem I'm posting here.
I configured my linksys router to have VNC access, port 5900 open and the IP address of the computer (Mac Pro) that I want to remote access to, and using Chicken of the VNC from a remote computer to access the Mac Pro. From time to time, when I turn off the monitor with the computer still running, I couldn't remotely access the MacPro with Chicken of the VNC; and when I check the MacPro to make sure that it's not turn of any reason, it's ON. This happens several times, so I suspect that turning of the monitor has something to do with the Network! Is my suspicious legit? Or is there anything else I don't know about in this problem?
I doubt that this lag in browsing operation has anything to do with the configuration of the Network Scanner, because the scanning goes through to the MacMini with no problem at the same time that Safari is acting up this way.
The Network scanner is a Kyocera Machine (Copier/Printer/Scanner). They mainly support PC, and our vendor doesn't know much about setting it up on Mac. We're so thankful enough to have it set up in the first place, needless to say setting up "correctly."
Could it be Mac OS X Tiger is still "sleeping" and not fully awake when the monitor is turned off? You know, like power saving feature of some sort. Just a guess.
    Thank you,

  • [Solved]Manually configure repo package

Alright so I'm trying to enable epiphany browser for use with webkit2 and every source I find online tells me to download the epiphany tar.xz package and configure it via:
    ./configure --with-webkit2
    make
    make install
and while this did work for me pacman does not recognize this manual installation. I'm wondering if there is any way to have pacman download and install the package from the official repos while also enabling the '--with-webkit' flag or something to that effect. Or if i can reconfigure the pkg.tar.xz archive and just Pacman -U it.
I have tried googling and I've gone through the wiki pages on Pacman and PKGBUILDS but have had no luck. I don't know if I'm missing something or if I'm just too tired for this right now but I really would like some help

How about you just check the AUR, last I checked there was a webkit2 PKGBUILD there.
I see a webkit2pdf package but that is not what I want. when you download and install from source and run './configure --with-webkit2' it goes through configuration and spits out:
Epiphany was configured with the following options:
    Source code location : .
    Compiler : gcc
    Prefix : /usr
    Extra debugging support : no
    Build tests : yes
    Code coverage : no
    GObject introspection : no
    NSS support : yes
    WebKit2 : yes
I already have all of the packages necessary I just need to configure epiphany to use webkit2 by default for flashplugin to work properly. I just want to see if I can have pacman configure it that way upon installation

  • Trying to create Manual IP Configuration, however, I get a error

    Hello,
I am trying to create a manual IP address configuration on my MacBook. My router's IP is 10.1.1.1 and I need to make my Mac's static IP address 10.1.1.10. It was working for a while, however, I am now receiving the following error message when trying to connect to the internet:
10.1.1.10 is in use by 00:23:df:d9:cf:64
I looked up the MAC address, 00:23:df:d9:cf:64 and it is apparently manufactured by Apple, Inc. I have taken a look at the IP configurations of everything that is made by Apple in my house including: Macs, iPhones, iPods, etc and none of them have anything to do with 10.1.1.10. Please help me solve this issue and hopefully get the IP address up and running again.
    Thanks a lot!

shmootz's router may not allow port forwarding at all if it (the router) is configured to hand out DHCP addresses to clients, hence his decision to go with static addresses rather than DHCP with manual address. I used to have a router that behaved like that.
shmootz, did you check both the airport panel and the ethernet panel on each computer? You know that the two interfaces will have different MAC addresses, right?
If you did not check both interfaces on each computer, I think you will need to look in your system preferences network advanced airport and ethernet panels on all of your computers and see if one of the interfaces has that 00:23:df:d9:cf:64 MAC address and manually pair it up with that 10.1.1.10 IP address.
It would be a lot nicer if you could just flush some table to clear the mapping of MAC addresses to IP addresses but I don't know where that info would be stored.

  • Airport Express B/G : problems with manual IP configuration?

I don't know when it started, but I think it has something to do with one of te latest systemupdates or airport firmware updates.
    Configuration :
    - Airport Express N : only N, bridge mode, IP manual (192.168.1.7), roaming with Extreme N
    - Airport Extreme N : only N, bridge mode, IP manual (192.168.1.35), roaming with Express N
    - Airport Express B/G (older one) : B/G compatible, bridge mode, IP manual (192.168.1.8), no roaming, just stand alone.
All the airports are wired connected to a 10/100 switch.
No internet configuration on these airports, I'm using a separated router, also connected to the switch.
Problem : The airport Express B/G dissapears from the network : from time to time not visible in the airport utility program, from time to time not visible in iTunes (airtunes). In spite of these problems, he is always visible in the airport network menu. An IP ping works just fine.
When I change the IP configuration of the Airport Extreme B/G from manual to DHCP, there is NO problem anymore.
No problems with the Airport Express N an Airport Extreme N.
Are there other users with the same problem?
    Thanks in advance.

question: i below what should i do ?
    1) put a cable from my cablemodem to the airport extreme bs;
    2) put a cable the airport extreme bs to the airport express bs.
Yes on both. Your network configuration would look something like the following:
    Modem > (Ethernet) > \[WAN port] AEBSn \[LAN port] > (Ethernet) > AX
do i have to reset the modems and are there any setting i should be aware of ?
Yes, it's always a good idea to both reset both base stations and, after doing so and before configuring them, perform a complete power recycle of your network equipment.
    So in this case ...
o Power-down the modem, AEBSn, AX, & computers. (Order is not critical.)
o Reset both the AEBSn & AX. (Again, order is not critical.)
o Power-down each base station after performing a successful reset.
o Power-up the modem; wait at least 15 minutes.
o Power-up the AEBSn; wait at least 10 minutes.
o Plug-in the AX; wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-up your computer(s).
o Use the AirPort Utility to reconfigure both base stations as required.

  • Manual email configuration?

How do I manually configure a new account in Mail 3? I'm trying to setup gmail IMAP, but the auto-setup chooses POP.
    Thanks.

When the setup pops up, deselect the option to automatically setup the account. Then on the next screen you will be able to choose imap: the server name is imap.google.com, and the smtp server name is smtp.google.com. After this is done, you might have to back into the account preferences and manually change the server port for imap to 993 and check "Use SSL", and change the smtp server port to 587 and check to use ssl for that too. The complete instructions are on google's website if you need them.

  • Pre-Authenticate manual mailbox configuration.

I am looking understand if it is possible to pre-authenticate a manually configured server in Outlook 2010 client
We have clients in one domain with access to a mailbox hosted in another.
We can manually configure the client to successfully connect to the mailbox.
Every time we make the initial connection we get an authentication dialogue box.
I have scripted the process to create a PRF file based on a user input (they supply their mailbox email address) which is used at first run of the client to configure the required settings.
There are some further script actions which are dependent on the completion of the first run before they can successfully complete and the first run is reliant on the user providing the authentication details in time.
To finesse this I was looking for a step requesting the user to supply the mailbox credentials push them into credentials manager and allow the process to seamlessly step through without any further interaction. That part we also have working however the first
run still produces an authentication request.
After the credentials are supplied during the first run (and remember credentials is selected and stored in credentials manager) there are no further authentication requests.
Essentially I am reaching out to see if there are any steps/script which can be used to provide/plug in the initial authentication request for the account creation?
    Thanks,
    Garry
