[SOLVED]missing killall

Arch is installed afresh in one of the hard disk. I found that killall command is missing. Tabbing lists only  kill and killall5. Any idea? I searched in the forum but no result bubbled out.
During installation usually all base packages selected but this one missed some how. Thanks for the inputs. killall was copied from another arch installation but now correctly installed.

  • Installation on Mac OS 10.8.5 SOLVED (missing mach_kernal)

    egon1984 solved it!!
Thank you!!! You are the only one who had the answer! After a recent Mac update, the supposed-to-be invisible "mach_kernal" was showing right in the root of my hard drive. I stupidly deleted it. That's why the latest Flash update wouldn't install!
To restore mach_kernal from TimeMachine, you need to make hidden files visible in Finder (and thereby Time Machine), like this:
    defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
    killall Finder
Now go to Time Machine and go back to a date when you still had that file "mach_kernel" and restore it.
Now go back to terminal to return Finder to its normal state:
    defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
    killall Finder

A user deleting a NECESSARY OS file is NOT (repeat: NOT) an Adobe problem. I've seen about a hundred people post in the Apple Forums this week that they did the EXACT same thing: deleted the Mach Kernel file, and it screwed up their entire OS. Apple f'ed up their 10.8.5 update to allow it to be visible, but that doesn't place ANY burden on anyone here.
Kinda reminds me of my earliest days at AOL when people would call in because they deleted "rundll32" from their Windows 98 and then couldn't reboot.
I hope everyone has learned, "If you DON'T KNOW what it does, leave it alone till you've researched it"

I'm missing some icons in GTK2 apps. Fbpanel doesn't have any task icons, and Gaim doesn't have buddy icons. There might be more, but those are the ones I've noticed so far....
I just reinstalled Arch using the pacman -r method, so I think I missed some packages....
Also, although it doesn't belong here, what package provides the "killall" command? I need that one too...

Fixed it. Pacman -S gdk-pixbuf and all was well. I figured it out after looking at the X log and realizing I was getting pixbuf errors. Doh!

  • [SOLVED] Missing acpi hwmon sysfs interface on Eeepc 1000H

    Hi,
I am running a fresh install using Linux 3.15.8-1-ARCH kernel on Asus Eeepc 1000H and there is a problem with the detected thermal sensors.
After configuring sensors using sensors-detect (yes to all answers, full detection), I only get this:
    $ sensors
    coretemp-isa-0000
    Adapter: ISA adapter
    Core 0:        +4.0°C  (crit = +90.0°C)
    eeepc-isa-0000
    Adapter: ISA adapter
    fan1:         970 RPM
It misses the acpitz-virtual-0 corresponding to the acpi thermal zone which temperature can be read in /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/temp and with "acpi -t" command.
Unfortunately, the temperature reported by coretemp-isa-0000 sensor is wildly wrong, and cannot be used to drive fancontrol, whereas the acpi temperature is correct.
I checked that hwmon, thermal_sys, coretemp and eeepc_laptop modules are loaded.
I also tried to add /etc/sensors.d/EeePC-0123456789 as said in https://forums.archlinux.fr/topic14506.html (french):
    chip "acpitz-virtual-0"
      label temp1 "temp1"
      compute temp1 @-20,@-20
      label temp2 "Core 0"
      compute temp2 @-20,@-20
but I am not able to get the desired output of sensors -u. all I get is that:
    $ sensors -u
    coretemp-isa-0000
    Adapter: ISA adapter
    Core 0:
      temp2_input: 2.000
      temp2_crit: 90.000
      temp2_crit_alarm: 0.000
    eeepc-isa-0000
    Adapter: ISA adapter
    fan1:
      fan1_input: 980.000
I also tried to install acpi-eeepc-generic from AUR, but unsurprisingly, it did not change anything.
All I can tell about former behaviour is that I had no problem running sensors and using fancontrol with Xubuntu 12.04 which uses 3.2.0 kernel.
Can someone give me a clue of what is going on here about missing acpitz-virtual-0 sensor ?
    Best regards,

  • [solved] missing latest backups for iPhone after getting replacement phone

Thought I would share this one in case anyone else runs into it.
My the speaker on my wife's iPhone 4 on Verizon had stopped working for phone calls for the second time and a restore didn't fix it, so she returned the phone and they gave her a new one at the store. We had made several backups over the last few days, the most recent was this morning.
So tonight we hooked up the new phone to iTunes and got ready to restore it, but iTunes said the restore was last updated in FEBRUARY. What?! My wife freaked out thinking all her photos etc. were now lost for good.
I held off on the restore and decided to do some checking around before doing anything. I found the folder where the restore files are, and sure enough I found files from today. I copied that folder just in case. I also checked in iTunes itself and the backups were listed. So what was up?!
It finally occured to me that we had recently upgraded her phone to iOS 5, but that the new iPhone 4 from the store was probably still on iOS 4 -- maybe iTunes was not smart enough to see this situation and tell us about it, and maybe it won't listed iOS 5 backups for an iOS 4 phone.
Well that turned out to be the case. But what to do to fix it? I figured if I could get iOS 5 onto the phone, we would be all set. But I didn't want to tell iTunes to label it as a new phone either -- I'm not sure if that would be permanent or what. So I took a leap of faith and held down the power button and home button simultaneously for a while, past the power off notification, until the phone prompted to be connected to iTunes to be restored.
Then I plugged it back into the computer (this is Windows 7, by the way). Sure enough iTunes said it detected a phone in recovery mode, and would I like to have iTunes restore it to factory settings and put on the latest iOS? I sure would, so I did that and waited...
After that was done, iTunes wanted me to active the phone with Verizon. We had already done that an hour earlier over the phone, but tried it anyway, and it failed. We ignored that failure and went into the phone in iTunes -- it now asked if it was a new phone or if we should restore it -- and the backup from this morning was listed. Phew!
Finally completed the restore. I noticed that all of the passwords for all apps were lost -- unlike with a normal restore/backup on the same phone -- but everything else (pcitures, apps, etc.) was there. Thank goodness!
So, if you have upgraded the iOS version and have to replace your phone and the nreplacement has an older iOS verison, then that may explain why your backups appear to be missing...

Yes, I tried. But nothing is working. I am feeling bad as such a costly phone stop working in 1.4 year ?
I am just sharing my experience.
I am not ranting but yes angry as I am eligible for upgrade in Nov 2012 so don't want to pay $149 for replacement as I can upgrade to iPhone 5.
Apple expert please help me how can I fix it. It's completely software issue.

  • [SOLVED] Missing libsmime3.so

    Hi, everyone.
I'm trying to run a native application which relies on dynamic runtime libraries that are missing in my system, one of those is libsmime3.so.
I've googled it and found that the missing library is either libsmime3 or libnss3, none of which I could find in Arch repos. Can somebody please advice if that library is available as a part of some other Arch package?
The software I'm trying to run is LightTable.
    % ./LightTable
./LightTable: error while loading shared libraries: libsmime3.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    Kind regards.

  • [solved] Missing library: libg2c.so.0

    Hi everyone!
Yesterday I dumped ubuntu and gave archlinux a (second) try, and up till now I am very pleased. As I need the root-system, I got it through AUR and it compiled, starts and works perfectly. No problems so far.
Now, there's a kind of Add-On called GEANT which needs the library libg2c.so.0. Unfortunately I couldn't find this library in any repository. As I understand it, libg2c.so.0 is part of an old gcc package g77 which has been replaced by gfortran in the gcc 4.x Series. So i tried to install gcc3 and gcc34, but it didn't solve my problem.
    The exact error-message is
dlopen error: libg2c.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    Thanks for your suggestions!!
    Yours,
    daniel
Last edited by quarK (2008-02-23 11:25:58)

By the looks of GEANT website, they have GEANT4 compiled/sources which should work with gcc4 - have you tried those?
Unfortunately that is not possible for me, as the geometry data and some other stuff we are using right now is written for geant3 and is not compatible to geant4. I find this quite annoying, but I can't change it.
Well, there's gcc3-g77 package in the AUR, but it some comments there indicate that it doesn't compile. You can try though.
Thanks for the suggestion. I just tried to compile, but it aborted stating "make: *** [bootstrap] Fehler 2" ("Fehler" is German for "error" as you might have guessed)
This may sound mighty stupid, but would it be possible, to get the needed library from somewhere else (e.g. another distribution) and simply copy it into the /lib/ directoy? I'll try this tomorrow!

  • [SOLVED] missing input fields in KAccounts KCM

    I've setup a KVM-VM to test KDE's KF5/Plasma 5/etc.. No KDE4 packages are installed.
When trying to create a new account in the KAccount KCM, I'm encountering several problems:
Google: simply closing the window without authenicating triggers and endless loop opening the web authentication over and over again
Jabber: no input fields at all
KDE Talk: only ID input field shown, no password input field
Non of these problems occur on an up-to-date Neon5 live DVD (based on Kubuntu). While the Google problem shouldn't be much of a hassle, the others simply prevent me from even creating any account. Is this a known problem? Did I miss to install some packages? Is there a daemon not running that I'd need? Please simply ask for details you may need.
    Thanks!

Wow... thank you! I'd never expect the missing protocol implementation to be the problem of a non-existing password input field only (instead of the whole configuration module)... Thanks

I just went through the process of installing all of the [AUR packages] for [Shutter]. I made it through that process fine, no errors all the dependencies are installed. For some reason when I start the application the App Indicator doesn't appear, instead I just get a matted gray square:
I would expect the actual shutter icon to be there:
The icon itself doesnt appear to be missing I can see it in /usr/share/pixmaps along with other icons that are appearing: Dropbox, Redshift, PIdgin, etc...
    Any thoughts

Not really sure what happened, after about 45 minutes the app indicator appeared. I can't recall any actions during that time period that would cause it to be fixed.

  • [solved] Missing 1G Memory, arch64. How to find back?

    It was a bios issue.
After flashing the bios to 1.1o, free -m reports satisfactory 3879m memory

It seems a piece of common knowledge that Arch64 supports 4G + memory, and I have no doubt of that.
