[solved] Module usb-eth not available
Hi everyone,
I am using Arch for about a week now and must say that I love it. Before I was using Ubuntu for half a year and earlier Gentoo.
So now to my question. Our router at home is a FritzBox SL that has one USB port and one LAN port. Ubuntu had a module called "usb-eth" that enabled a device eth1 and let me connect to the internet. Any ideas how to find that? I couldn't find it in usb documentation of the arch kernel.
Thanks in advance
David
EDIT: solved. the module is called cdc_ether, everything works fine.

Thanx, I'm waiting for your report :)
EDIT: I have found solution for me. I'm using Logitech USB Keyboard, so I have done this steps:
1] Upgrade mkinitcpio to 0.5.23-1
2] cd /lib/initcpio/install
3] cp usbinput usbinput.backup
4] vim usbinput
and add this: MODULES="${MODULES} hid-logitech" (you will probably need another hid module, depend on your keyboard - try ls /lib/modules/2.6.27-ARCH/kernel/drivers/hid) after line with MODULES=" $(checked_modules "/usb/host ..." and save it.
5] pacman -S kernel26 (I'm using 2.6.28.2)
6] reboot :)
Good luck!

Time Machine external USB drive not available at boot
I have a late 2012 iMac running Mavericks 10.4.9. I use Time Machine with a Toshiba 3TB external drive. The Toshiba drive is usually left powered up. Every time I boot the iMac and try to force a backup, Time Machine reports the Toshiba disk is not available. When I open Time Machine preferences, the Toshiba drive does not show until I power-cycle it and re-select it. Also occasionally it reports that I did not eject it properly. But it NEVER shows in Devices or on my desk top (like a thumb-drive does for example) so I wouldn't know how to eject it anyway.
Any ideas on where I am going wrong?
Thanks!I also have a MacBook Pro with Leopard. I have a new 500GB Lacie d2 safe external drive that my computer recognizes but Time machine does not. Formating the disk in journaled Mac OS Extended format does not solve the problem. Lacie says they are working on it. Anyone have any ideas?

[SOLVED] LVM physical volume not available during early boot
Note to self:
Of course it's not available - it's in an encrypted LVM container!
Hi,
I'm trying to get myself a working hibernate but I'm stuck on resume hook not seeing my swap partition.
The swap partition is on an LVM logical volume (LV) which is on one physical volume PV created on a different harddrive than the root partition is. During the bootup I get something similar to "ERROR: hibernation partition '/dev/mapper/volgrp-swap' not found".
Further debugging gave out that for some reason the early userspace has no access to LVM physical volume. I managed to run a shell using break=premount boot parameter. From there I found out that "lvm pvscan" shows no physical volumes at all. I suspect that mkinitcpio does not give a damn about non-root harddrive though I was unable to confirm that and neither was I able to find any other reason for this behaviour.
Relevant lines from mkinitcpio.conf:
MODULES="dm_mod btrfs"
HOOKS="base udev block lvm2 autodetect keyboard encrypt resume filesystems fsck"
Any help would be appreciated, including any tips on where to get more debug data.
cheers,
-miky

Do you have the correct "root=" line in your bootloader's kernel line? Is it in fstab?
Perhaps try with rootdelay=5 as well?
Yes I have root=/dev/mapper/hdgroup0-volroot, and its in fstab (not that fstab is even being read)
root delay wouldn't help at all because after it drops me to a busybox shell I can't do a manual mount. -
SOLVED - Servlet MessageBrokerServlet is not available on Ubuntu AMD64
Hello,
I have downloaded blazeds-bin-3.3.0.11688.zip and deployed blazeds.war on winXP tomcat 6.20.
There http://localhost:8080/blazeds/messagebroker/amf url in browser gives me blank screen as expected.
My production deployment will be Kubuntu 9.10 AMD 64 so I wanted to test same on it.
The installation for same is Kubuntu 9.10, tomcat 6.20 installed through repositories.
I deployed same .war in catalina/localhost but I get following error
Servlet MessageBrokerServlet is not available
instead of blankscreen as expected.
What might be wrong ?

There is No Problem with either BlazeDS, Tomcat or Kubuntu OS as such.
The repository Install of Tomcat has the problem. What I did is as follows.
1. First I removed the repository Install of all Tomcat packages.
2. Downloaded the stable tar.gz distribution from Apache website.
3. Followed Instructions at this Link (states that repository Install of tomcat do not work properly.)
4. deployed the blazeds war on linux
5. Started Tomcat and tested http://localhost:8080/blazeds/messagebroker/amf
It gave me blank screen as expected.
Hope this helps to someone who stumbles on Ubuntu Linux Blazeds Installation.
Moderators may put this in FAQ section so that it helps Ubuntu Users.
Thanks and best Regards
RajaIt's not that hard to fix/work around, you just need to add a line in /etc/default/tomcat6, I just made a post about it.

[SOLVED]Mounting usb drives "not authorized" with thunar-volman (XFCE)
Hi,
I'm new to Arch (even though I must be approximately at my 15th try at installing it properly) and I have a problem with thunar-volman.
Whenever I log in as user, and try to mount a usb drive with thunar, let's say I want to plug a drive labeled Ext3_8Go, I get the same message in a pop-up window : "Failed to mount Ext3_8Go (or anything close, not in English in the text), not authorized (that part is in English)"
My install is :
- net install
- partitions : 9Go for /, no swap, no separate /home
- packages : base and base-devel. The only modifications in the package list is that I remove ppp, pcmciautils, and xfsprogs.
- config : at the install stage I only modify rc.conf to change LOCALE and HOSTNAME, and pacman's mirrorlist to allow all French mirrors in addition to the one at the top.
When the usb installation is over, I run this script :
"installation_xfce.sh" (there may be some errors left, I modify this script as I learn) :
#!/bin/bash
# expected environment : freshly installed archlinux, login : root.
echo "Are you connected to internet ? If not, please Ctrl+C and reload this script when connected"
echo "Otherwise, press ENTER to continue installation"

For those who don't have time to read the installation script, DBUS is in the DAEMONS list of rc.conf, and .xinitrc launches : exec ck-launch-session startxfce4
Any idea ?

USB Drive not available after 10.5.2 - URGENT (cannot access work files)
Just got the Software update for 10.5.2, everything seems to work fine, except that my system no longer recognizes my USB Western Digital My Book 500GB drive. The drive does not mount automatically as it did before. When I go into Disk Utility, I can see the drive, but when I click on 'mount' it says that this drive cannot be mounted.
The drive is still good, as I can read it from all of the other machines I have, it also is accessible from MSFT Windows on the Mac (via VMware Fusion). The Drive is formatted for Windows and worked fine before.
Please help, I keep most of my files on that drive and if it does not work soon, I will have to revert full-time back to my Dell so that I can work.
Why was this upgrade not fully tested? Is this par for the course with Mac OS upgrades...obviously this is my first Mac, and I was pretty pleased, but I have never lost a hard drive EVERY during a Windows upgrade...this is unacceptable.Welcome to Apple Discussions neighbor!
You may need to remove a file from:
Macintosh HD -> Library -> Launch Daemons
called "com.WD.WDDriveServices.plist"
If that does not work, and the solutions offered here do not work, see my data recovery solutions on this FAQ*:
http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
And never let there be only one copy of your data when upgrading again. You never know when a hard drive might fail.

Module Pool TCode not available in production
Hi Friends,
I have developed a module pool program and assigned a transport request number and transported to production.
The transport request has been successfully moved to production server. But in production system, Iam unable to run the transaction code.
In production, when i open the modulepool program , under " display object llist ", it is not displaying the transaction code.
What could be the problem.
Is there any separate transport request number for custom transaction along with module pool program? if so, How to identify.
Please suggest me.
Thank you,
Murali Krishna T.Hi Murali,
Have you tried to execute the transaction from application toolbar.
If it gives a message like...."Transaction does not exist" then you need to check the same on development server that whether you have transported the right one or not..You might have saved on any other request.
If still facing same isue then let me know what exactly the message you are getting.
Thanks & Regards,

[SOLVED] Verbatim USB headphones not detected
I did use this head set once when I bought them in september and they showed up in gnome's pulseaudio-mixer-applet. I can't recall installing anything, just plugged them in...
However when I tried today nothing appeared, and dmesg gives med this:
usb 1-5.2: new full speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 4
usb 1-5.2: device descriptor read/64, error -32
usb 1-5.2: device descriptor read/64, error -32

usb 1-5.2: device descriptor read/64, error -32
usb 1-5.2: device descriptor read/64, error -32
usb 1-5.2: new full speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 6

usb 1-5.2: new full speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 7

Does anyone know if something is changed in pulseaudio or kernel or anything?

Strange thing is, i used it playing Fallout this morning. Thats why I assumed it was a linux problem... -
Android USB storage not available without restarting udisks2
My problem seems to be specific to Arch (I've got Chakra, Debian, Fedora, and Back|Track installed on other partitions and all is well there), when inserting a USB drive, everything seems to work fine, the Device Notifier alerts me of the new drive, and it shows up in Dolphin. BUT, when I plug in my phone as a mass storage device, it doesn't work. The phone shows up in lsusb, as well as systemctl (sorta) -- the 'sdc' entry is there, just not the partition entries (sdc1, sdc2, etc.) -- same thing in the /dev directory (sdc, but no sdc[x]). Now, if I run "systemctl restart udisks2.service" the partition entries show up in systemctl, the /dev directory, and Dolphin, and the Device Notifier alerts me accordingly... This has got to be something stupid I'm missing. I've been Googling this all day. Anybody got any ideas?
Edit:
Sorry, forgot to mention it's an Android (gingerbread) phone, and I'm running the lts kernel.

If you are using xinitrc, please read [https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xinitrc Xinitrc]. You may have some polikit problem using this method. -
[solved] Module bbswitch does not load, cannot disable nvidia
Hey!
According to the title I'm unable to load the bbswitch module on load with it's given parameters. I do it the way suggest in the Arch Wiki.
I'm using linux-ck
local/linux-ck-corex 3.5.6-1 (ck-corex)
local/linux-ck-corex-headers 3.5.6-1 (ck-corex)
local/nvidia-ck-corex 304.51-2 (ck-corex)
(I heard theat graysky said that there are no problems)
My /etc/modprobe.d/bbswitch.conf looks like
options bbswitch load_state=0 unload_state=0
dmesg|tail -10 outputs:
[ 121.351475] bbswitch: version 0.4.2

[ 135.343414] pci 0000:01:00.0: >power state changed by ACPI to D3
Any suggestions? Am I missing something? I'm thinking of adding bbswitch into modules-load.d and add the parameters as kernel parameters in grub but I'm not happy with that solution…
even if it's the "cleaner" version, imho.
Cheers!
Help is appreciated, thanks. :-)
Edit: If I load bbswitch manually, I have to restart bumblebee to turn the graphics off. I cannot disable the card via bbswitch suggested in bbswitch git repo with command: tee /proc/acpi/bbswitch <<<OFF.
Tried via modules-load.d now and grub boot parameters. The module is loaded but the card is turned on…

I disabled the nvidia module now. My /etc/modprobe.d now looks like
/etc/modprobe.d
total 20K
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4.0K Oct 9 19:32 .
drwxr-xr-x 76 root root 4.0K Oct 9 12:49 ..

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 17 Oct 9 12:23 nvidia_blacklist.conf
nvidia_blacklist.conf:
blacklist nvidia
nouveau_blacklist.conf:
blacklist nouveau
bbswitch.conf:
options bbswitch load_state=0 unload_state=0
There is only one more problem left… the bbswitch module does not load on startup. If I # modprobe bbswitch manually the nvidia card is turned off and it also seems the bumblebeed daemon is not started… I have no idea why. It worked with that setup all the time… not much has changed… imho nothing.
Are there any logs I could post or what can I do to eventually fix this problem.
Thanks for the help in advance!
EDIT: I can start the bumblebeed.service manually. + Why are the modules from modprobe.d not loaded? My mkinitcpio.conf.
EDIT2: Found it why bbswitch module wasn't loaded… http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.linux.a … eral/44986… testing this one right now.

Hay experts,
Thanks for all sharing ur experinces.
I have two Funnction module which is not available in target 2005 version.
COuld you please let me know the Replacement.
Below are the FUnctions no longer available.
DB6_LOCK_SNAPSHOT.
DB6_APPL_SNAPSHOT.
Thanks.
AmbichanAmbi,
Sorry to know that my previous post did'nt work out for you. Might be SAP not providing a new FM in latest version.
I cannot give you a function module name since I do not have direct access to ECC version. However there is another way to find a resolution. I checked 4.6c version and found the following programs were using those function module.
So what you can do is, go and check these program and you may be able to find the new logic used in ECC version and you can adopt this logic in your program.

whenever i connect my iphone to pc while syncing mail in itunes a pop up" the connection is not available.outlook must be online or connected to complete this action" please suggest me to solve this or bisable.
Cached exchange mode was already marked so that was not the issue.
I have done all the usual of creating a new profile, reinstalling Outlook etc but nothing seemed to work. I also tried going back to Outlook 2007 and reinstalling Windows but same problem.
However, I am not sure if it is connected but I was useing the option in MS Live Sync to synchronise Office settings which I turned off recently and now no longer have the issue. Unfortunately I cannot remember when in the process I did this so cannot be
sure it was responsible - anyone else found this? -
fglrx has just recently stopped working, and I can't quite pinpoint when that was because I honestly hadn't noticed until checking. I've tried a few reinstalls and different xorg options so far, but had no luck.

Would it be possible to explain the other warnings in Xorg.0.log? Rather curious about those apart from the obvious one, too.
Thanks.
Last edited by Newnux (2007-07-11 16:04:15)Indeed, that seems the end-all error of it all.
I'll summarise my warnings, some for curious reasons:
(WW) Open ACPI failed (/var/run/acpid.socket) (No such file or directory) # What's this?
(WW) fglrx: No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:1:0:1) found # Not a problem.
(WW) fglrx(0): Only one display is connnected,so single mode is enabled # No problem.
(WW) fglrx(0): Kernel Module version does *not* match driver.
(WW) fglrx(0): ***********************************************
(WW) fglrx(0): * DRI initialization failed! *
(WW) fglrx(0): * (maybe driver kernel module missing or bad) *
(WW) fglrx(0): * 2D acceleraton available (MMIO) *
(WW) fglrx(0): * no 3D acceleration available *
(WW) fglrx(0): ********************************************* *
Anyway, I wondered about versions and noticed this:
(II) fglrx(0): [drm] DRM interface version 1.0
(II) fglrx(0): [drm] created "fglrx" driver at busid "PCI:1:0:0"
(II) fglrx(0): [drm] added 8192 byte SAREA at 0xbc000
(II) fglrx(0): [drm] mapped SAREA 0xbc000 to 0xb7285000
(II) fglrx(0): [drm] framebuffer handle = 0xbd000
(II) fglrx(0): [drm] added 1 reserved context for kernel
(II) fglrx(0): DRIScreenInit done
(II) fglrx(0): Kernel Module Version Information:
(II) fglrx(0): Name: fglrx
(II) fglrx(0): Version: 8.37.6
(II) fglrx(0): Date: May 25 2007
(II) fglrx(0): Desc: ATI FireGL DRM kernel module
(WW) fglrx(0): Kernel Module version does *not* match driver. # included to show where this was displayed
All versions previous to that show 8.38.6:
(II) Module fglrx: vendor="FireGL - ATI Technologies Inc."
compiled for 7.1.0, module version = 8.38.6
Module class: X.Org Video Driver
ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 1.0
So I assume I have an old version dotted around somewhere, but I'm not sure about how it's all loaded and such.
Now, quoting something I'd come across a few times and taking it from thinkwiki:
If you lose hardware acceleration after a driver update this can be caused by an old fglrx kernel module being loaded.
Check out /var/log/Xorg.0.log for a message like:
(WW) fglrx(0): Kernel Module version does *not* match driver.
(EE) fglrx(0): incompatible kernel module detected - HW accelerated OpenGL will not work
You can verify this yourself by looking at the version message some lines above. It should read something not matching the installed version like:
(II) fglrx(0): Kernel Module Version Information:
(II) fglrx(0): Name: fglrx
(II) fglrx(0): Version: 8.10.19
The cause for this trouble might be that there resist multiple versions of the fglrx module within the kernel module search path.
Go to /lib/modules/<your linux kernel version>/ and type # grep fglrx modules.dep.
If grep finds multiple lines you nailed down the problem. All you have to do now is to delete any versions of the module (look at the filedate) but the most current one. Then run # depmod and you are done.
Hint:
Newer versions (8.21.7) of the fglrx module seem to be installed in the extra/ subdirectory.
Older versions (8.19.10) used to be located in the kernel/drivers/char/drm/ subdirectory.
How does this apply to Arch? I only found one instance of fglrx by using that method.
Edit: Forgot to add that I've tried reinstalling a few times, it doesn't really seem to do anything. Wondering if I should attempt to install an older version or something, but I don't get why the driver numbers don't match for me. Surely others have updated their drivers too.

USB port 1 & 3 not working, BT not available
iMAC 27", Mid 2011
The USB port 1 & 3 (1 is near the firewire port) are not working, also Bluetooth is not available.
I try to reset PRAM and SMC but it didnt change the situation.
When executing Hardware Test (Diagnostics) no errors are found (short and long test). When in the hardware test, all USB ports are working.
AND afterwards when restarting Mavericks the USB port 3 works again - but when I then unplug the mouse, put it to port 4 and back to port 3 it does not work anymore. (I didn't check if the same happens with port 1).
Any suggestions how to fix it?
ThomasUnfortunately it doesn't change anything.
Yesterday I reinstall Mavericks from scratch (erase hard disk and install OS). Now no bluetooth icon appears in the menu bar - even not in system preferences.
Some further issues I notice but I'm not sure if they are related to the bluetooth issue:
it takes about 60sec. after a reboot/restart until the apple logo appears and the progress indicator is running
I found a lot of USB error messages in the logs:$ sudo dmesg | grep USB

It seams to me like the internal USB hub is in trouble.
Unfortunately I can not compare it to a working iMac.
