[SOLVED] MPD isn't making any sound while running as its own user

I can't make MPD produce any sound when it runs as its own user.
- I'm running MPD from systemctl
- If I run MPD as my own user I get sound
- I am not using pulseaudio
- mpv, for example, plays sound fine
- speaker-test -c 2 -D hw:1 plays sound fine
- journalctl -u mpd gives errors of the following type:
Jul 26 15:08:25 alexei-desktop mpd[5951]: alsa_output: Failed to open "My ALSA Device" [alsa]: Failed to open ALSA device "default": No such file or directory

  • When my phone is locked, and I get a text message, it isn't making any sounds. When the phone is in use and I get a text, it makes the alert sound.

When I get a text while the phone is locked it doesn't make the designated alert sound, but it does if the phone is unlocked and in use.

I think you have the 'do not disturb' function enabled. If there is a moon icon in the top right of the home screen that will be the problem. Go to settings,  do not disturb, and make sure manual slider is off. I had the same problem and took me a day to figure out.

  • My macbook isn't making any sound

There is no sound, and no start up sound and the only option in the sound preferences in 'Digital Out' is 'optical digital-out port'.

    Mandrake,
There are a number of things that can cause this, here are some of the most common remedies.
Try looking in the headphone port and see if there is a red light, if there is, take a set of headphones and plug them in and out several times, there is a micro switch that sometimes gets hung up and this can help free it up.
Also you can try a pram reset:
Power off the mac, power it back up and hold the following keys immediatly, option, command, P, R (no commas)
which should make the start chime sound, continue to hold these keys till you hear the chime 2 times, then release. Reboot.
If no joy, try going to applications>utilities>Audio MIDI set up, and make sure that internal speaker is selected.
    Hope this helps,
    SJP

  • IPad is not making any sound

iPad is not making any sound when typing, watching video from YouTube and video from cameroll. I don't even hear when I receive notification. My mom and dad has the same problem on their iPhone 4s. My mom when to apple store to replace for a new phone but do I have to go to the apple store to replace it too? I also tried a restore but it did not work. Please answer!
    Thank you

    DISCONNECT BLUETOOTH.
After doing all the ridiculous resetting and changing/checking the settings by the advice given on these forums and on YouTube, I finally discovered that if you have your apple device connected to any other device by bluetooth you will not get any audio but by the device it's connected to. How un-awesome is that? Ive always been used to how my android devices work with Bluetooth which is when the system you're connected to is off or in a different mode, you still have audio. That makes perfect sense and is convenient, right? But I thought my brand new ipad was busted when I connected to my entertainment system by Bluetooth and haven't been getting any audio the last few weeks. So basically I need to go into settings every stinking time if I want to hear my game or show my wife a YouTube video. Regretting ever got this overpriced tablet...

  • IPad is not making any sounds except for itunes, Pandora and Netflix. Need help.

From one day to another the iPad is not making any sounds (lock, keyboard, games) except for music on iTunes, Pandora and video on Netflix. All sounds are activated on the iPad's general settings. I have synced it and updated the OS to no avail. Any help or suggestions is gratly appreciated.

If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

  • Isn't there any sound output on HP w2558hc??

I can't find out how to get any sound OUT (for headset) of my screen...is it just me beeing silly or isn't there plugin  pls help

Your HP W2558hc LCD Monitor DOES have integrated speakers. To get external sound working, you do have to connect
the sound cable from the back of the monitor to the sound output port on the back
of the computer tower. The speaker wire should have a light green colored, male, single pole mini RCA
plug which you would match with a light green colored female sound jack on the back of the tower.
In order to get sound through your headphones, you should locate the jack on the front of the computer
with the headphone symbol beside it and plug the headphone into it.

  • IPhone 5 making weird sound while using Viber

My iphone will start making strange low tone beep sound while using viber. Only when I close the app (holding it long at multi-task and clicking the X) will it stop. And then when I open it again it will start making weird beeps again. Please help.

        Hey there kben,
I'm sorry to hear that your iPhone is having the same issues. This is not a known issue on the device so lets try and take a look to see what is causing it. Did you have this issue before the 7.0.2 updated? Please try a soft reset,http://vz.to/16Qv4Id and let us know if the issues persist.
If the soft reset does not work, I would recommend performing a hard reset on the device,http://vz.to/17aDIPT.

  • IPhone 4 not making any sound.

I just bought a new iPhone 4. All of a sudden today it has stopped making any noise. Nothing for a call, new text, song from the iPod, nothing!! I've checked all the settings under sounds (I can't even hear the previews from all the sounds). I've even restarted the phone. Any ideas on what's going on? Its brand new and I'm already having issues.

Is it still connected to the Bluetooth in your car (been there, done that)?
Put the phone in handsfree speaker mode when on a call and let us know if you hear any sounds then.

  • Sound input changes on its own

    Hello,
I'm having some trouble with my sound input in the system settings. I want to use my internal microphone to record into QuickTime, but it occasionally changes itself back to the Line In on its own.
I have other applications open while doing this, including iTunes. I'm using QuickTime to quickly record my music practice while using iTunes to play an accompaniment. I don't know whether or not that has any bearing on why this might be happening.
    Thanks for your attention!
