[SOLVED] My machine won't load uuid on boot.

I recently ran the following to update my machine. I found it here since I was having the issue that started the thread
pacman -Syu --ignore filesystem
pacman -Su
I then ran pacdiff and made sure all my config files were in order. Unfortunately I believe this updated grub as well as potentially linux. I didn't run mkinitcpio or recreate my grub.cfg. Now I get the following error when I try to boot:
ERROR: device 'UUID=f3f3aeaa-0e59-4092-95fb-df1d768e966d' not found. Skipping fsck
ERROR: Unable to find root device 'UUID=f3f3aeaa-0e59-4092-95fb-df1d768e966d' .
You are being dropped to a recorvery shell
Type 'exit' to try and continue booting
sh: can't access tty: job control turned off
I've been able to boot the machine with my live usb stick I created when I originally installed arch. After so doing, I was able to confirm the above UUID points correctly at the partition that I want to boot.
What would cause UUID to fail to load on boot?

I should have mentioned that when booted from my usb stick I did the following:
mount /dev/sda2 /mnt
arch-chroot /mnt
mkinitcpio -p linux
However I received the following error. I wan't sure if I was doing it wrong so I gave up on that venture.
preset not found /etc/mkinitcpio.d/linux.preset'

  • [SOLVED]wpa_supplicant.service won't load properly at boot

    Hello everyone,
    When I boot my Wi-Fi does not work. That's because wpa_supplicant.service has not loaded correct.
    Systemctl status wpa_supplicant.service gives this output:
    wpa_supplicant.service - WPA supplicant
    Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/wpa_supplicant.service; disabled)
    Active: failed (Result: exit-code) since Mi 2013-12-18 14:17:20 CET; 53min ago
    Process: 1793 ExecStart=/usr/sbin/wpa_supplicant -u (code=exited, status=203/EXEC)
    Main PID: 1793 (code=exited, status=203/EXEC)
    CGroup: /system.slice/wpa_supplicant.service
    Now I see that wpa_supplicant -u exited with Status 203. If i now open a Terminal, login as root and execute
    wpa_supplicant -u
    everything works fine.
    Now I don't know where to look next for my problem (Is it a DBUS fault? Or Systemd? Or wpa_supplicant? Or NetworkManager???)
    I'm using NetworkManager with Gnome 3.10.
    Thanks in advance

    You’re running an outdated copy of Safari on your Desktop. That won’t work.
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Applications
    from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A to open the Applications folder. Check that the Safari application is in that folder. If it is, use it, and delete the copy on your Desktop. Never move or copy built-in applications.
    If you've deleted Safari from the Applications folder, back up all data, then reinstall OS X. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.

  • (SOLVED)Farmville 2 won't load

    Anyone on here play Farmville 2? I have tried multiple times and many different solutions, but I have yet to find out why Farmville 2 won't load. It loads halfway, then stops. I can run the game in Linux Mint, so I'm wondering if there is just some file that I'm missing to run the game. I have installed flashplayer from the repositories, as well as pepperflash from the AUR. Nothing seems to work. It doesn't work on Firefox, either. I have just done a full system upgrade, but nothing related to flashplayer or video drivers were updated. Oh, yes, I'm running the Intel video drivers on my system. I have tried running the Catalyst drivers, and EVERY time I do so, I end up with a blank screen and I have to do a reinstall to fix it. Any help would be appreciated!!!

  • [Solved]GTK apps won't load themes as non root Openbox

    I have a very strange problem I need help with. I run Arch with Openbox and my GTK applications look like crap if I run them as normal user but I run as root, they're just like I want them. You see how it looks in this picture, the left is the root and the right are regular users. If you're wondering why they are different themes for it if I change that ordinary users will not save it when I click on execution but changes in the program until I turn it off so the theme works. Anyone know how I can solve this strange problem? Here is also a ouptut of ls -al to see if there are any owner issues.

    In there is a file called gtkfilechooser.ini with this content:
    [Filechooser Settings]
    LocationMode=path-bar
    ShowHidden=true
    ShowSizeColumn=true
    GeometryX=250
    GeometryY=99
    GeometryWidth=780
    GeometryHeight=585
    SortColumn=name
    SortOrder=ascending
    StartupMode=recent
    I also looked in gtk-3.0 and there I had a settings.ini with this content
    [Settings]
    gtk-theme-name=Adwaita
    gtk-icon-theme-name=Faenza
    gtk-font-name=Sans 10
    gtk-cursor-theme-name=Adwaita
    gtk-cursor-theme-size=0
    gtk-toolbar-style=GTK_TOOLBAR_BOTH
    gtk-toolbar-icon-size=GTK_ICON_SIZE_LARGE_TOOLBAR
    gtk-button-images=1
    gtk-menu-images=1
    gtk-enable-event-sounds=1
    gtk-enable-input-feedback-sounds=1
    gtk-xft-antialias=1
    gtk-xft-hinting=1
    gtk-xft-hintstyle=hintfull
    gtk-xft-rgba=rgb
    Also when starting thunar I get no error message either as root or regular user.

  • [SOLVED] GNOME 3 won't load after adding networkmanager

    Hello!
    Just did a fresh install on a HP42-475DX system, did a -Syy/-Syu, installed xorg, xf86-video-ati, telepathy, and gnome. Everything installed fine and I was able to log into Gnome with no issues.
    While trying to get wireless working in Gnome (and have an applet appear in the corner), I installed network-manager-applet, removed network from daemons and replaced it with networkmanager, and then rebooted. My boot sequence goes all the way through loading gdm and then the screen goes black. It's still backlit, there's just nothing displaying. ctrl+alt+f1 does not yield a terminal for me to log in with.
    Is there something I'm missing and/or screwed up?
    Thanks for your help in advance.
    Czar.
    Edit: Booting into live environment and removing networkmanager from the daemon array allows me to log into Gnome.

    caligo wrote:What does your daemons array in rc.conf look like? Make sure that dbus is started before networkmanager. Also, try to block the network daemon by putting "!network" before "networkmanager".
    Caligo, thanks for the reply! I don't specifically have network being blocked right now. Should it be? Right now, my DAEMONS array looks like this:
    DAEMONS=(syslog-ng dbus ifplugd netfs crond gdm)
    wonder wrote:paste ~/.xsession-errors
    wonder, I could not locate that file. When I do a ls -a to print my hidden files, the only one I have is .bash_history.
    Thank you both for your help. Have a good one!
    Czar.
    Edit: Caligo, you nailed it! I added !network to the DAEMONS array and it came up perfect.

  • [Solved] Graphical display won't start from cold boot.

    I noticed that if I turn on my computer and boot into linux the screen will go black after trying to start the display manager. Rebooting into linux will again display a blank black screen. Switching to TTY's with ctrl-alt-F* doesn't appear to work. If I boot into windows then boot linux the display works.
    I haven't been able to debug much because I can only cause this bug to occur after letting the computer sit off for a while. Shutting the computer down (systemctl poweroff) doesn't cause it, leaving it unplugged for a minute didn't cause it either.
    Today I tested ways to recreate the error without waiting, I don't remember how many things I tried, so I can't include boot logs from a failed boot, I'll grab them next time the bug happens.
    I'm running linux-ck and nvidia drivers installed from the linux-ck unofficial repository mentioned in the linux-ck wiki page.
    - Kernel:     repo-ck/linux-ck-ivybridge 3.12.9-3
    - Graphics: repo-ck/nvidia-ck-ivybridge 331.38-2
    - Display manager: community/lightdm 1:1.8.6-1
    Hardware:
    - ASRock Z77 Extreme4 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard
    - GTX 670 Graphics card.
    Solution:
    This was an issue with windows 8.1 fast start up, which is enabled by default. Instead of performing a clean shutdown windows will hibernate to disk. When linux booted the disks failed to mount.
    I disabled fast startup in windows Control Panel > Power Options > System Settings.

    So I left my computer off for more than three hours and the display started fine when I turned the computer on. This morning after the computer was off for about eight hours the display wouldn't come on. I have boot logs from a good, and a bad boot.

  • Time Machine Won't Work - Using a BOOT DISK and separate DATA DISK Drives

    Ok, so I'm up and running the my new MacPro.
    I did a boot drive and then I did a 3 drive "Data Volume" RAID for increased performance and am getting about 235mb speeds on the "data" drive.
    Everything is great... except... TIME MACHINE doesn't work. I'm a backup fanatic, so I have TIME MACHINE to save "versions" of my files, plus I use SUPER DUPER, DROBO's etc.
    So, I've tried deleting the network preferences file in the library folder and restarting, but to no avail.
    Basically, if I open TIME MACHINE PREFS, it says backup failed and I cannot "change" the drive. It's like the MAC doesn't see if through the TIME MACHINE PREFERENCES, but the Time Capsule Disk is "mounted" in the finder and I can copy files directly.
    Anyone have any advice?
    Thanks!

    Open Airport Utility and check that you have the TC properly configured with the drive shared and file sharing enabled. The TC drive must mount on the Desktop. It should also be partitioned using GUID partition map and formatted Mac OS Extended, Journaled. You might consider using Airport Utility to erase the TC disk.
    I believe the TC user manual should provide information on how to set up the TC to use with TM.

  • BootCamp won't load on first boot from USB created by Bootcamp Assistant

    So I have created a bootable USB via the Bootcamp Assistant with the support files etc, formated a paritition to run off of. I also have tried formating through disk utility to no avail.
    I have tried things like using a USB drive, using an external, un plugging all external devices from my mac while running the set up, and nothing I have found online so far has seemed to work.
    Where the problem is, when I boot from the external drive or USB created by bootcamp assistant, it will literally just freeze on the first screen where I select the language and that stuff, not even a USB keyboard or mouse will help.
    I have managed to get past that before, but then It wont let me format my hard drive correctly to install it
    Any ideas?

    Please post in the Boot Camp forum, thats where you will find the MS Windows and Boot Camp gurus. Note also it's Boot Camp, and not Bootcamp which is something you do when you enter the military.

    I discovered problem. It's caused by NetworkManager after last update (libsystemd.0.so trouble).
    Recompile pkg by yourself to get working NetworkManager.

    I've swapped to i5c (great phone) so my hubby has my i4s with pay as u go but now it won't load or sent e-mails! I've tried tech support suggested by Talkmobile for 'fix' but it hasn't solved problem,any ideas?..

    Try this from MacFixIt as well:
    In the case of drive directory damage or problems with permissions, the solution is usually to use Apple's Disk Utility to repair the disk. Of course, you won't be able to perform this operation normally (simply launching the Disk Utility application, located in Applications/Utilities, and initiating a disk repair) if your system will not startup. So two options exist:
    * Insert your Mac OS X 10.4.x (Tiger) media (DVD or CD) and restart the computer while holding down the "C" key. Once the computer has booted from the installation disc, select "Utilities" from the menubar and open Disk Utility. Repair the disk, then quit Disk Utility and restart your system.
    * Alternatively, you can repair the disk while booted in single user mode if you do not have access to a retail Mac OS X 10.4.x (Tiger) DVD/CD. To startup in single user mode, hold down the "Command" and "S" keys simultaneously at startup. Once properly booted, type the command fsck at the prompt. Repeat these process until no errors appear.

  • Brand new Mac, had to erase drive through disk utility as time machine back up failed. Now disk utility only has the option to install Mountain Lion which my Mac won't allow. Anyone any ideas as my Mac won't load anything up but disc utility!

    Brand new Mac, had to erase drive through disk utility as time machine back up failed on initial setup, USB cable popped out Now can only access disk utility as won't load to log in screen. The only has the option in disc utility is to re-install Mountain Lion which my Mac won't allow or loading another time machine back up but after an hour of it processing, that didn't resolve the issue either! The time machine back up is the latest back up of my Mac Book Pro which was using OS X Maverix. I'm guessing I'm going to have to take my Mac to the store but that would be a hassle so does anyone have any ideas?

    Follow this guide using another Mac.
    Insert your newly created Mavericks USB into you Mac, press the power button and then hold down 'option,' until it gives you an option to boot from the USB. You will then be able to erase the internal disk with Disk Utility and reinstall Mavericks straight after.
    After that you should be able to use Migration Assistant to restore your applications and user data.

  • Tried to install OSX Mavericks now MBP won't load

    Hi all
    Last night I tried to install OSX Mavericks on my MBP mid-2010 running Mountain Lion. It downloaded fine and then seemed to install fine. When the message came up saying it was going to restart automatically the spinning wheel hanged, which was the first problem. I switched off the MBP and turned it on again. It now refuses to boot up and stays on the Apple bootup screen with the spinning wheel.
    I've tried to restart in recovery mode but this doesn't seem to work. It just goes back to the spinning wheel and there is no progress bar that pops up to indicate the recovery data is being downloaded from the net (I don't have a recovery partition).
    I have a backup external hard drive that I can use to restore my MBP and then try upgrading again, but I can't use that until I get into recovery mode.
    Is anyone able to help?
    Thanks

    Ok so I worked out how to get into recovery mode. Turns out I was doing it wrong! I used an external USB drive to access recovery mode.
    I ran disk utility which identified and fixed some errors on the HD. I thought this might solve the problem but when I restarted the same problem occurred. I then restored my time machine backup which thankfully worked.
    I tried installing mavericks again! Upon restarting and completing the install, I got the message 'OSX has been installed. Your computer will now restart'. After the countdown had finished I got the beach ball which span eternally again, just like last time. After about 10 mins I did a hard reset and again OSX won't load.
    Lame...

  • I just installed LV2011 and one dll from my vi won't load with the error "application configuration is incorrect"

    I just installed LV2011 and one dll from my vi won't load with the error "application configuration is incorrect", which is Windows lingo for "missing package dependencies".  All the computers at my company with 2010 loaded seem to do OK.  When I do a Dependencies Walk I get missing Visual C debug dll's missing plus IEshims and wer which both have a whole tree of dependencies missing on my machine.  The Windows install is the same "Windows XP version 2002 Service Pack 3" on my PC and the working PC's. So I'm thinking I have to uninstall 2011 and go back to 2010.  Is this correct?  Those VC debug dll's were installed on the machines with 2010 in them but were not installed in mine.
    I've heard the advice to recompile the dll with debug turned off but I don't have access to the source code.
    Thanks in advance.

    u87 wrote:
    Thanks for the reply.  This at least tells me that going back to LV2010 is not likely to solve the problem.  The missing dll's are:
    MFC90D.dll
    MSVCR90D.dll
    IESHMS.dll
    WER.dll
    And, once again, IESHMS and WER have other dependencies.  So perhaps i need to install the Visual C++ development environment.
    IESHIMS.dll is an Internet Explorer DLL that gets usually delay loaded by shdocvw.dll. As delay load it can not cause DLL load errors but only runtime errors. Maybe your DLL has it as direct dependency but that is unlikely since it does not have a documented interface.
    WER.dll is Windows error reporting for Vista/Win7.
    MFC90D.dll is the Microsoft Foundation classes and MSVCR90D.dll is the MS C runtime library, both as debug variant.
    So all the DLLs you mention are actually MS DLLs! You haven't identified the DLL that you try to access in LabVIEW that causes these error messages. IESHIMS and WER are usually delay loaded by any component that needs it and should not likely be used by non MS code.
    What is the DLL you try to load into LabVIEW and by whom? Get the provider of that DLL to provide you a non Debug build of the DLL. Installing Visual C on all the machines just to make the DLL load is not a solution, besides that it is likely not legal since I doubt you have that many licenses.

    My iphoto will not load, all it does when i open it is just show a blank iphoto and won't load any of my photos that were already in there. Any way to fix it ?

    Remember: we cannot see your machine. There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS.  So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Basic things like :
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For instance: 'iPhoto won't export' is best explained by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
    Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.
