[SOLVED] Neither wired nor wireless work on new Lenovo X201.

Hello there!
I just received a beautiful new X201, and I've had nothing but trouble in trying to get access to the tubes.
lspci | grep Net gives me
Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82577LM Gigabit Network Connection (rev 06)
Network controller: Intel Corporation Wifi Link 6000 Series (rev 35)
After fresh install ifconfig shows only "lo" as active, and ifconfig -a shows wlan0 and wmaster0.
I pretty much gave up on wired ethernet after thinkwiki said e1000e should work (http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Intel_Gig … CI-Express). After
modprobe e1000e
dmesg says everything is great, but nothing shows up when I do another ifconfig -a.
As for my wireless card, the 82577LM, arch automagically loads iwlagn on startup. When I try
ifconfig wlan0 up
arch yells at me:
SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such file or directory
So fun! dmesg says

After some digging around, I found out that there's a new iwlwifi-6000-4.ucode, but I have no idea how to use it, can hardly remember where I found it, and currently haven't the strength in my Google-Fu to find its source again.
Help? Please? I love arch. I want to use it!

the latest install image is from August last year. I guess it wasn't in there yet at that time. The curse of brand new hardware.
Here are a couple workarounds I can think of:
- Install the current core image, put the latest firmware & driver packages on a usb stick and load the packages from there.
- Find a USB wifi adapter with good linux support and use that for your net install and until you get the internal card working.
Edit: after thinking about it, that driver's part of the kernel isn't it? The new firmware may not work with the old kernel but it's probably worth a shot.

[Solved]Can't get tpfand working on my Lenovo X201

My laptop has recently been having problems with running too hot - even to the point where the auto shutdown has kicked in. It doesn't matter how hot the CPU gets, the fan doesn't seem to increase much in speed at all.

how did you diagnose the problem? unless you have 2 identical zen player. one with latest firmware and another with older firmware to actually test it to confirm it's the firmware problem. I'm still incline to believe either your player is faulty or the remote is faulty and the problem is not due to the player firmware.

Slow wired and wireless connections on new Mac Pro

I have a new 6-core Mac Pro with 64GB RAM that I seem to be having major network issues with. When I restart or first switch the machine on it's fine but after a few minutes the network (web browsing) become painfully slow - when I run a speed test it come out at ~2Mbit/s. This is the same whether I connect on a wired or wireless connection. I've tried various connections including a complete bypass of my time capsule to a direct wall connection that should be giving 100Mbit/s. When i run a speed test on my iPhone connected to the time capsule via 5GHz I comfortably get >60MBit/s.
Is there a bug in the latest OS 10.9.4 my MBAir also seems to require a lot of restarting to keep up even basic web browsing???

Your Macs are always looking for a better connection. To that end, they are evaluating every possible way to get to the Internet.
It is very important that you limit those choices to only the ones you actually want to connect to, and indicate that the other are "off the list", literally.
For example, to test your wired network connection, Ethernet must be at the top of the list AND WiFI must be OFF. (Otherwise, your Mac will be checking WiFi to see if it seems to be getting a better connection over WiFi. In the screenshot below, Ethernet is at the top of the list, so it is likely to be used, but since WiFi is still ON, it may be used instead.
To check YOUR WiFi connection (and not your neighbors' connections), you need to BOTH check that the "ask to Join new Networks" box is checked:
and that the Networks you wish to join are shown in the order you wish to join them. All extraneous networks should be removed from this list:

Neither earphones nor speakers work with my iPhone 6

Neither my earbuds nor speakers work with my iPhone 6. The earbuds had been working and the next time I tried them they no longer worked. I tested them with other devices and the problem is not the earbuds nor the speakers. Any Suggestions? Thanks

[SOLVED] Neither console, nor policy kits seem to run

I have installed a couple of hours ago compiz standalone, removed any display managers I had before from inittab and now I run it through .xinitrc.
But neither console nor policy kits seem to run or grant privileges to normal users for mounting usb devices or just shutdown, syspend etc.

New iPod nano....neither driver nor iTunes work

well, I downloaded iTunes, but when I went to install it nothing happened. It stopped at the screen that said "Preparing to install..." and then that screen closed. Not sure whether it worked or not, I connected my iPod to the comp and tried to run it. When I opened it, it started looking for the device driver and then it gave me this message:
"Windows was unable to find a driver for this device."

Come on guys! Read the systems requirements on the box for the new ipod nano, it clearly says that it needs Windows XP with Service Pack 2.
iTunes 7.0.2 have the drivers in self for the ipod nano, so it need to be install before you plug the nano in your system, and you most have the latest version of Windows XP with SP1 or SP2 for the install to run correctly.
If there will be a way to install iTunes 7.0.2 on Windows 98, surely is not safe and requires additional programs that possibly have bugs and can void your warranty, and possible damage the ipod.
Upgrading to Windows XP is not so expensive like an iPod in self, so? You’ll be willing to risk your new hardware for saving a few bucks?!

SOLVED: W510 Wired Network Stops working

I had a problem with a W510 I ordered with Windows 7 32 bit. At random times, the exclamation point icon would appear over the network icon in the system tray, and the network adapter would no longer be recognized. I could use the built in Windows facilities to reset the adapter, but it would quickly fail again. The only cure was to restart the machine, which was annoying. Wireless networking was not affected - just the wired Ethernet connection.
I downloaded the latest drivers from the Lenovo site and that did not fix it. I have had numerous Thinkpads over the past 12 years and have NEVER had any sort of hardware fault before, so I doubted that it was a hardware fault. Therefore I wiped the machine clean and installed 64 Bit Windows 7 instead.
The first problem I had after installing Win7 x64 was that the internal USB controller was not recognized by Windows. Therefore, USB devices (i.e. my thumb drive with all the x64 Lenovo drivers on) were no longer recognized. Therefore, I burned the x64 drivers to a CD and used that instead.
All the devices including the USB controller then came to life, and it looks like the problem has been completely solved.
I post this, in case anybody else has such a problem.

I just started seeing this issue with my pen silo. The Wacom tablet component has completely stopped working, and I'm seeing "USB device not recognized" every time I insert and draw out the pen. My guess is that all the peripheral components in the tablet are connected to the motherboard via crappy silver trace ribbon cables, and they're susceptible to the tiniest amount of flex, heat, and disruption.
Since the USB device is, at least in my case, still operating well enough to report that it is having trouble, I'm guessing that the issue is transient, but that doesn't fix my problem - and probably won't fix yours. I'd recommend getting a refund.
Here's how to see if the device is reporting a problem:
1) Wait until you see the "USB device not recognized" message again.
2) CTRL+X -> Device Manager
3) Other Devices -> double-click "Unknown device"
4) Go to "Details" tab
5) Select "DevNode status" from the drop-down; the Value pane will have DN_HAS_PROBLEM on one of the lines.
6) Select "Problem code" from the drop-down; the Value pane will likely show "0000002B", or Microsoft USB problem code 43 in decimal.

Wrt110..1 pc wired,2-wireless no prob.,,new laptop crashes all!! help

my pc is wired right in to my wrt110, both my sons pc's have linksys wireless g cards w/ no problems,,,thers even 3 ipod itouches connecting randomly no problem.....i bought my wife a new HP laptop with an 802.11 b/g card built in....when she boots up it drops EVERYONE the router needs unplugged/replugged now if all the pc's in the house are off and she turns on the laptop she connects and ther is no prob. but fire up any other connection "bam" out goes the signal and router needs reset with her laptop off !! is it possible her lapyop is overpowering the other wireless connections or is it a conflict of wireless signals within the wrt110 help!! thx

I would suggest you to readjust the wireless settings of the router...Open the router setup page and Under the Wireless tab,Change the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Also,Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box...Under the Advanced Wireless SettingsChange the Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 and Click on Save Settings...
Now,power cycle the router and check.

Can not access internet via wired connection, wireless working OK

Background information,Came home from vacation turned on PC to access email.Emails started downloading then stoped,started getting messages that firefox stopped working and Thunderbird quit working and others.My desktop is attached to a verizon router.all my other devices are wireless and are working fine through the same router.I connected my laptop to the lan connection, turned off wifi and accessed the internet via lan connection.Using device manager, checked drivers, says up to date, also says that it is working properly.I have gone to the command line and can ping google.com.I can ping the loop around. ping127.0.0.1I have done the ipconfig/release,ipconfig/renew, and ipconfig/flushdnsipconfig/all indcates that it is there and enabledMy Lan connection is part of the mother board.can not access internet via wiredconnection.Not sure what to do next.Help Please

Reply: I spent about an hour last night doing all the things that you suggested including moving the lan cable from my desktop to my laptop which worked fine. When I hoover over the connection it says; Network3 Internet Access no error messages.When I unplug the cable at the router a red x covers that connection icon.Plug it back in red x goes away.It is seeing the router, just does not appear to be providing selected web page info.Computer thinks it is working fine.

Upgraded to 10.7.4 (on a 2x2.8 GHz Quad-Core) and neither video nor YouTube work any longer. HELP! (please)

OK it works fine jear in 10.7.4, so a few things to try...
First try with this:
1) Right-click (or control-click) on the *Safari* icon in Dock
2) Options - Show in Finder
3) Right-click on Safari
4) Choose "get info" from the contextual menu.
5) Select "open in 32-bit" in Get Info, and then close the pane.
6) Re-launch Safari.
If that's not working, try this:
1. Load a page with an embedded flash video (e.g. any load youtube video)
2. Right-click within the video frame and choose "Settings..."
3. In the pop-up box, in the first tab under "Display", tick the checkbox to "Enable hardware acceleration"
4. Close the configuration box.
5. Reload the page

as a solution i downloaded a testversion to then insert my serial number (because with this installation i had no problems at all with ps 11), worked all well, but now when the setup.exe is started (automatically or manually) it wants to DEinstall ps, not to install. when continuing to deinstall, there is an error "empty path".
so i cannot install properly and can´t even uninstall for starting again (because it seems not to be installed at all).
what can i do?

Your will need to perform a Factory Default Reset on the TIme Capsule to clear out the current network settings and then reconfigure it to "join" your wireless network using the AirPort Utility setup application.
To perform the Factory Default Reset on the Time Capsule....
Pull the power cord from the back of the device
Wait a few moments
Hold in the reset button on the back of the Time Capsule and keep holding it an additional 8-10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the power cord back in to the Time Capsule
Release the reset button after the hold period and allow 25-30 seconds for the Time Capsule to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
On your Mac.....
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click Continue
Follow the guided setup and choose the "join" option when it appears duriing the setup
You will need to know the exact type of wireless security that the Belkin router is using to enter this information during the setup of the Belkin. Otherwise, the Time Capsule cannot join the network, and you will receive an error message after the configuration process.

MY data charges are going through the roof (Its so expensive here in NZ) I have spent time with my mobile provider, and time with my home wireless provider,and some time I got rthrought o an Appple help desk in Colorado.
