Anyone know any status for opus codec support in the native end users flash player?
Been very curious, impressed with test results of my own, and excited about this:
http://www.opus-codec.orgI believe Adobe will be considering integrating the Opus Codec very soon into the ActionScript runtime. To help move along the priority of this feature, I would suggest that anybody else interested in this should go to to bugbase and add your votes so that Adobe will move up the priority.

Will iTunes support playing or converting music to the new open source "Opus" codec? The codec has many advantages compared to AAC and MP3 and it is royalty free. It could be used easily in podcasts but also implemented in the iTunes store for better quality.
This shows comparisons of Opus against other audio standards http://www.opus-codec.org/comparison/
"Opus can handle a wide range of audio applications, including Voice over IP, videoconferencing, in-game chat, and even remote live music performances. It can scale from low bit-rate narrowband speech to very high quality stereo music. Supported features are:
Bit-rates from 6 kb/s to 510 kb/s ---That 's even lower than AAC or mp3 go and nearly 2x the max bitrates of each, it's nearly as good as lossless cd/DVD quality!--
Sampling rates from 8 kHz (narrowband) to 48 kHz (fullband)
Frame sizes from 2.5 ms to 60 ms
Support for both constant bit-rate (CBR) and variable bit-rate (VBR)
Audio bandwidth from narrowband to full-band
Support for speech and music --- can be used in podcasts and music--
Support for mono and stereo
Support for up to 255 channels (multistream frames)
Dynamically adjustable bitrate, audio bandwidth, and frame size
Good loss robustness and packet loss concealment (PLC)
Floating point and fixed-point implementation"

https://hacks.mozilla.org/2012/09/its-opus-it-rocks-and-now-its-an-audio-codec-s tandard/Hopefully.
Opus does have formal industry standardization through IETF (http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc6716).
According to IETF's new "mandatory-to-implement" idea, Opus would be required in the future for browsers supporting the WebRTC. It's not clear how effective the mandatory-to-implement directives will be, but if Apple goes along with it, Opus would probably wind up as a QuickTime component and available in a number of applications.
I highly doubt you'll see Apple selling or using Opus files however. -

MP3 and restricted codec support
hi,
finally I have my system set and running. I did go for the KDE4 which I like very much and followed all the steps as stated in the Beginner'S Guide.
However, I don't have MP3 neither other multimedia propietary format access like MP4, AAC, MOV, WMA, WMV or RMVB - I carry my multimedia collection of songs, videos and movies from when I was on WinXP (yikes!)- despite I installed Xine and other utilities as desccribed in the Beginner's Guide.
I do can watch some AVI files but can't access sound stream so they're muted. How do I add full multimedia support to my fresh shiny Arch? I did try to search the forums but there's to seem a problem because I keep receiving desconnections errors.http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=93862
Re: MP3 and restricted codec support
why did you opened a new thread instead of discussion in the previous one?
oops, I did it again, sorry! (yeah, I know you prefer Brtiney saying that )
I just did the same of my very first post: promise to don't screw things again and follow the rules.
@Bralkein: thanks for your tips and useful research, I will stick with xine until I backup my root, then maybe I try gstreamer.
@.:B:.: I have panic of installing things that can break my system, before installing Arch few days ago I came from an entire life in *buntuland, so you'll see : D

How to use opus codec in pjsip in ios ?
how to use opus codec in pjsip in ios ?
Hi Jay,
Thanx for quick response,
Do you mean to say that to use h264 or vp6 I have to make application in another technology/ using open source library as plugin.
or we can directly use h264 in our application, as like we have option for two codec for audio in that, and just setting the codec property we were able to use.
Thanx in advance. -
How to use opus codec with pjsip library ?
how to use opus codec with pjsip library ?
Hi,
The pageDef in app B must have an entry for the method in order to access it. Just adding the adfjar isn't enough.
You need to go the bindings of the page in app B and add the method you want to access. Once the method is added you can access using the following code:
BindingContainer bindings = getBindings();
OperationBinding operationBinding = bindings.getOperationBinding("getWeatherbyCityName");
Map map =operationBinding.getParamsMap();
map.put("theCityName", "Tokyo");
operationBinding.execute();
This should work.
Thanks,
Siddharth. -
Extended video codec support on iPhone (DivX, XviD, etc)
When will the Apple add support for more widely used video codecs? E.g.
DivX
XviD
WMV
I know, I know H264 is a pretty darn good codec, but I do have quite a few flics in DivX and other formats and I don't wanna hassle with converting them.
The lack of video and audio (flac, ogg, wma) codec support is really a turn down!!Divx and wmv are proprietary codecs.
Apple supports and uses open industry standards-such as
mpeg4/h.264. -
Does anyone know how I can add support for a codec in Premiere Pro CS4 [Windows]?
I would like to have the XVID [not DIVX!] codec and the X264 [not H264!] codecs to be supported by Premiere Pro, because I cant seem to import any of my custom converted videos [well, actually importing works, but Premier only shows 1 frame, and sometimes a bit of sound...]
It seems like Premiere Pro doesnt support anything! [except for the WMV codec, but that s*cks...]
Please tell me how to add codec support to Premier Pro CS4!Well, let me explain it all now:
-I used a video camera to shoot some clips.
-Those clips were automatically encoded with the H.264 codec. [as it is Full HD footage]
-When i tried to play these files on my computer, it displayed weird black bars on the left and right.
-So i wanted to convert those files using another codec, to make them look properly on my computer.
-So i opened the videofile with Any Video Converter Pro to have a look if that program does read the format properly.
-It seemed that Any Video Converter Pro was able to read the file properly.
*I think that is because it has build-in codecs or something? ... on the other hand, the codec i use a lot, x264 and xvid, which are available in the program, arent available by default: i installed them. So the problem would be on my computer [Vista 64bit] and laptop [Vista 32bit] not being able to handle the H.264 codec properly, as Any Video Converter Pro was able to read them properly.
-Using the fact that A.V.C.P. [Any Video Converter Pro] was able to read the file properly, i converted it to another HD codec: X264, which my computer can display without any problems at all: now the black bars on the side are gone.
-But now I want to use Pr to start the videoediting of multiple clips. Unfortunatly, Pr isnt able of reading the X264 codec.
-So i tried other codecs, like the ones which are supposed to be supported: MP4 , MPEGII, Microsoft AVI 1, Panasonic DV, XVid, DivX and WMV.
The only format which Pr seems to like is WMV:
-With the other codecs, it only shows the first frame, though it does import the files [no errors given].
-Only the Panasonic DV and MPEGII codec gave the error of not being able to be imported.
On to the information of the sequence and the used footage:
SEQUENCE:
Capture Format: HDV
Preset Used: AVC-I 100 1080p30
FOOTAGE:
Container: AVI
Codec: X264 [originally H264, explanation above]
Audio: MP3
Resolution: 1920x1080, aka Full HD
Video Bitrate: 6000
Just for the record, here is the comparison of two identical files, both the same footage, left is converted to X264, right is the original, using H264.
Here is the comparison of the two files when played; again: Left X264, Right H264: [both reduced in size, to make them fit in this image I also removed the persons, for privacy reasons.] I tried different media players, but all show the same: GOM Player, Windows Media Player, VLC Media Player, Quicktime Player, RealPlayer. Also installing the Full K-Lite Codec Pack didnt make a difference. -
E7-00 Video playing and codec support issues
Gentlemen,
There's a conceptual problem in playing video streams in the E7 (or Symbian in general). There is no video player I could choose the source from except local file system. All web streams are handled by the webkit browser.
The praised codec support is actually mediocre - there is no support for WMV3 for example.
Since 1610Unless another version of the browser is developed and flash support increased that is how it will stay ! I download Video onto my phone and watch when on the go, the reliability of a 3.5G signal is as much a problem as the phone itself, and I haven't found a Video under 2 gig in size that won't play on my E7 as yet, I also carry a 16 gig memory stick with movies on and use that if I have a lot of media on the phone and am running short of space , USB on the go !
If I have helped at all, a click on the White Star is always appreciated :

SBH-52 Apt-X Audio Codec Support
Hi,
Is there any chance that we can see Apt-X Audio Codec support via a firmware upgrade on SBH-52 ? Just like the recently announced SBH-80 which supports Apt-X.
Thanks,
TarkanHi.
I would like to know too if it supports Apt-X.
It is not in the specs, but review here:
http://homenetworking01.info/2014/05/product-reviewsony-sbh-52-bluetooth-headphone-adaptor/
says it have AptX. So maybe a firmware update added that?
I also have Smartband SWR10 and BM10 is on the way, so i hope all this could work together in various locations.
Thanks. -
[solved] can't find/build mplayer with vdpau codec support
I want to install an mplayer that will handle vdpau.
I installed the standard mplayer version but that didn't have it.
Following some advice in another thread I rebuilt the standard mplayer with yaourt.
When I do 'mplayer -vo help' it shows a vdpau driver on the list. But when I do 'mplayer -vc help' there are no vdpau codecs listed.
I tried the same thing with mplayer-svn but get the same results.
I even tried compiling mplayer manually but get the same results.
What am I doing wrong?
TIA, gabu
(I have just moved to Archlinux64 after 3 years with Gentoo, so my Gentoo experience might be getting in the way)

I manually compiled using the svn source that I currently use on my Gentoo system and get the same odd results, whereas on Gentoo it compiles as you expect. This would seem to indicate that there is something about the Arch environment which is causing the problem rather than purely the source code.
I tried installing mplayer-vdpau-nogui but have the same problem there. -
[SOLVED] X11 hid support broken on fresh macbook install
Hi!
The solution was elementary indeed, I was missing xf86-input-keyboard and xf86-input-mouse. (looooooooooool)
What bugs me though, is how this could happen to an already working system. From what I remember I didn't touch those drivers on my previuos system, I guess I installed them and forgot about them, but why would they break from a system update? Anyway, I guess that's nobody's concern by now. Thread solved.
Old title: X11 hid support completely broken after system update. Now, I've completely reinstalled the system but the error remains. Please read the post below.
I've a problem with X11 support for input devices since running pacman -Syu 2 days ago. This post contains error logs and a description of my attempts to counter the problem. The hardware is a MacBook, first generation. I'm a novice linux user but seasoned with GNU and a quick learner. The solution to this might be simple, but google didn't give me anything usable. All forum threads I found were either unsolved or irrelevant.
This is what has passed. (long story short, may or may not be relevant, my current problem is explained below)
* After the first reboot since the system update, X11 didn't give me anything except a movable cursor. The screen was completely black using the xmonad wm, and when using twm, it was completely distorted with blue patterns. I start searching for sources of the trouble.
* ALSA and pommed complain about driver errors during boot. I can't read the messages because they skip by too quickly. I remove them from rc.conf because I prefer dealing with one problem at a time.
* modprobe complained about framebuffer_blacklist.pacsave having an erroneous extension in /etc/modprobe.d. It actually loaded both the .conf and the .pacsave. I tried swapping between this .pacsave (is it the same or opposite of a .pacorig, btw?) and the .conf. Obviously modprobe stopped complaining when there was no erroneous extension, but I didn't notice it fixing anything else. I'm unsure whether the framebuffer is even relevant.
* I decide that the problem didn't have anything to do with modprobe. I don't know what happened exactly during this phase, but for some strange reason, the graphics cease to be jumbled. twm starts the default programs, but is not interactive. I could move the mouse, but no mouse buttons were working. Keyboard not working at all.
* I decide to wipe X11 and hal. I also rm -rf:ed /usr/share/hal, /etc/hal, /usr/share/X11 and /etc/X11 (yeah, I got angry).
* Reinstalled X11 and hal. Also rm -rf:ed /usr/share/hal, /etc/X11 and /usr/share/X11 (I got really angry). Stuff works now! However, setxkbmap made everything break again, both mouse and keyboard. I read the output of startx and realise evdev hasn't been loaded, since /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/evdev is missing. The whole folder structure /usr/share/X11/xkb is actually missing. I randomly hit the target and run pacman -S xkeyboard-configure, which creates the folder structure along with the evdev ruleset.
* The keyboard does not work when using evdev. Temporarily renaming it so that it doesn't get loaded fixes the problem. If I'm not mistaken this makes X11 revert to not-hotplugged keyboard and mouse preferences in xorg.conf (which is auto-generated). The keyboard and mouse then works again (but, obviously, not setxkbmap, and I really need input hotplugging as a laptop user).
* It's getting late, so I shutdown and go to bed.
Waking up today, neither keyboard nor mouse is working - also when not using evdev! I've really no idea where to go from here. I've some output for you to analyze:

Any help would be greatly appreciated! This is too much for me to handle by myself. I'm thinking of trying debian if I can't sort this out, so be a patriot!

Last edited by sapht (2009-07-23 17:45:07)Alright, I got fed up and decided to reinstall the system.
Only installed wireless_tools, madwifi, hal, xorg and xf86-video-intel.
Edited /etc/X11/xorg.conf to select the intel video driver.
The mouse and keyboard are still frozen.
Here are some much cleaner Xorg.0.log, xorg.conf and startx_output.log files, I hope it will be easier for any readers of this post to find errors here:
Output of startx:
hostname: Host name lookup failure
xauth: creating new authority file /root/.serverauth.4956

Reading Xorg.0.log myself, I find nothing that would imply the input devices have been erroneosly loaded. What is going on? Surely I must have missed something?

ScreenVideo codec support in flash
Hi, could you answer whether ScreenVideo codec (ID=3) is supported by latest FlashPlayer for DefineVideoStream/VideoFrame tags?
The sample file is attached.Hi is anybody here?

Codec support - lots of problems
I've got 37 avi files from the same camcorder, taken within minutes of each other.
I can import them all into Organizer and play them all in Organizer.
But when I try to play or drag/drop them onto the timeline in PE8,
it compains that the video codec is not supported - FOR HALF OF THEM!
WTF?
THEY ARE ALL THE SAME!
Then, to make things more infuriating, I can convert the AVIs into
multiple other formats (using MediaCoder) and PE8 won't recognize the sound or the video
for almost every single conversion....mpg1, mpg2, mpg4, avi, divx - you name it, they all fail in PE8....
This program STINKS - ADOBE you should be ashamed putting this untested garbage on the market. Thanks for the info.
Just as a test, get G-Spot and run one of the files that does work, plus one that does not work. What is the difference, if there is one? Hint: a screen-cap of each in G-Spot will really help and save a bunch of typing. Use the little "camera" icon in the lower-middle of the forum editing screen's toolbar to attach these screen-caps, so they can be quickly seen and compared, and so they do not have to go through queue. There might be something there.
This is just a guess, but I'd say that there has to be a difference between the files that work, and the ones that do not. It might be something like auxiliary files not being copied over from the folders on the SD card, or similar.
Good luck,
Hunt
