[Solved] Removing software

Hello all,
Lately I've been installing some software to test new applications. I deleted the ones I don't want, but ofcourse they've left quite some dependencies on my system, out of which some I don't even need. Coming from an Ubuntu install, I know that in Ubuntu I've got the command
sudo apt-get autoremove
to automatically remove unneeded libs etc. I wonder if Arch Linux has a similar feature? I've tried the man page, but other than
-u, --unneeded
Removes the targets that are not required by any other packages.
This is mostly useful when removing a group without using the -c
option, to avoid breaking any dependencies.
I didn't find anything.

Check under the "Remove" the "-c" "-n" and the "-s".
REMOVE OPTIONS
       -c, --cascade
Remove all target packages, as well as all packages that depend on one or more target packages. This
operation is recursive, and must be used with care since it can remove many potentially needed
           packages.
       -k, --dbonly
Removes the database entry only. Leaves all files in place.
       -n, --nosave
Instructs pacman to ignore file backup designations. Normally, when a file is removed from the system
the database is checked to see if the file should be renamed with a ".pacsave" extension.
       -s, --recursive
Remove each target specified including all of their dependencies, provided that (A) they are not
required by other packages; and (B) they were not explicitly installed by the user. This operation is
recursive and analogous to a backwards --sync operation, and helps keep a clean system without orphans.
If you want to omit condition (B), pass this option twice.
So, pacman -Rcn for "autoremove" equivalnt, and -Rcns for a more thorough removal, which will remove deps that could stay as orphans

I want to download the "FREE" iPhoto duplicate remover software, but the download process keeps asking me for my payment information. I have tried it several times.. But it says I cannot download this app unless I give my payment information.. So I went back and looked again and again.. and it still says it's "Free"...

You need to contact the authors re download or payment issues - we are only users like yourself and help with iPhoto for the Mac issues
here is Old TOad's list of potential packages including his comments
These applications will identify and help remove duplicate photos from an iPhoto Library:
    iPhoto Library Manager - $29.95
Duplicate Annihilator - $7.95 - only app able to detect duplicate thumbnail files or faces files when an iPhoto 8 or earlier library has been imported into another.
PhotoSweeper - $9.95 - This app can search by comparing the image's bitmaps or histograms thus finding duplicates with different file names and dates.
DeCloner - $19.95 - can find duplicates in iPhoto Libraries or in folders on the HD.
DupliFinder - $7 - shows which events the photos are in.
iPhoto AppleScript to Remove Duplicates - Free
PhotoDedupo - $4.99 (App Store) -  this app has a "similar" search feature which is like PhotoSweeper's bitmap comparison.  It found all duplicates
Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto - free - was able to recognize the duplicated HDR and normal files from an iPhone shooting in HDR
Some users have reported that PhotoSweeper did the best in finding all of the dups in their library: iphoto has duplicated many photos, how...: Apple Support Communities.
If you have an iPhone and have it set to keep the normal photo when shooting HDR photos the two image files that are created will be duplicates in a manner of speaking (same image) but there are only twp apps that detected the iPhone HDR and normal photos as being duplicates: PhotoSweeper and Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto.  None of the other apps detected those two files as being duplicates as they look for file name as well as other attributes and the two files from the iPhone have different file names.
iPLM, however, is the best all around iPhoto utility as it can do so much more than just find duplicates.  IMO it's a must have tool if using iPhoto.

  • Removing software from leopard.(rookie question)  And Pop-up Windows?

I downloaded some photo software that came with the camera, of course it was no good, How do I go about deleting it from my macbook?
Also, I occasionally have began getting a pop up window on my mac, it just comes up and stays in the back ground, I never even notice it until I close everything else down. Any tips on how to do away with that?

normally, removing software is simply by deleting the programme from your applications folder.
say, your unwanted app is called "xxxx"; find "xxxx" in your apps folder and delete. Occasionally, you got an "uninstall" command in your "disk image" (xxxx.dmg) file; you would need to open the dmg file and click on "uninstall" if it's there. Once you know your way around, you'll also find the appropriate "preference" files, which is usually in your home folder/library/preferences, and might be called something like "com.xxxx.plist".
There are programmes around to make this task easy, but I have never used them:

  • Add/Remove Software not working in Oracle EL5 x86

I installed the new Oracle EL5 version as a test on a Virtual Machine, after some playing around I got that to work ok. I had some video issues during the install so I missed the package selection section completely. After getting things up and running I tried to go into Add/Remove Software to change the package selection, but the list in the Browse tab is empty, the Search Tab only works on packages I ALREADY have installed, and the list tab only lists the packages that are currently installed. In Oracle EL4 I could go back and change package selections from the list. How do I do the same thing in EL5? I do not know the exact package versions. I have registered the system with ULN (Network license) and run updates..
    Thanks

    Jim,
It's probably best to file a service request via Metalink on this issue.

  • How do you delete a viris removing software download

how do you delete a viris removing software download

I don't believe you need more than 500Mb of free space if you perform the update through itunes. As all operations are done on the computer, and then the files are simply replaced with the newer versions.
    As to your other questions:
    Tormund0123 wrote:
After you download a software update, how do you delete it?
You don't. As long as you don't install it it will be there. Once installation is complete, the system will delete it from the device.
    Tormund0123 wrote:
Once you press the "Download and Install" button, what happens next? Does it do the former first, the latter first, or both?
Obviously it can't install if it hasn't Downloaded first. So if you still have the "Download and Install" option as opposed to the "Install Now" option it will first download and then install.
    Tormund0123 wrote:
If you try to download iOS 7 by syncing tyour device to iTunes, what happens if you press "Download only?" Will the software download AND install, or just download only?
If you are using Itunes and choose to only Download, then it will simply download the update package and store it on your computer. When you are ready to install it you can then press the install button.

Hi there, I have  mac running osx 105 with kaspersky internet security. All  up to date. I have not downloaded anything not approved by apple and do not visit sites not approved or certificate. · days my computer was acting strange, files stops uploading on hightail. Then problems really started. I could not do a full scan, after about 3% it said scan complete, that was after 5 minutes, a full scan normally takes 1.7 hours. I opened in safe mode but kaspersky would not open message always said opening. I could not scan. I could however download files in safe so I re installed kaspersky. I then opened mac in normal mode and was able to install new virus. THEN I RAN A SCAN AND IT FOUND  2x trojen-downloader Js.ifr active threats. It removed/ quaranteend them, but sai there was still active trojans and could not remove but all is not OK. I cannot access apple sites, my emails freaking out , I now cannot do full scan-I am wrting this from a PC as I don’t dare play with my Mac until the right help arrives……
Everyone says wipe disk and reinstall. the problem is this trojan does not allow kaspersky do finish scan and find other trojans. So this advice is not good if i cannot find the sourse of the trojan. This trojan blocks me trying to access apple downloads it only gives me access to sites not registered or registered unsafe. Every time i try to access safe sites it switches off my interenet. I have screen shots of all this. People say this is not a mac virus but i have information that claims this trojan can morph into mac. If it is not this then the other trojans still in my system but unknown are th cause.

  • Good Program Removal Software?

First of all, I wasn't quite sure where to post this, so I'm sorry if this is the wrong section.  I wanted to ask it on the support forums since a lot of the results didn't look too legit.
I want some application that works similarly to Window's Control Panel's "Uninstall a program" function.  I get tired of dragging the application into the trash, then having to search through the Library folder and find every bit of the application files and delete them.  I'd like it if I could select a program to uninstall and uninstall it in a few clicks, again, like Window's Control Panel does.  I'd prefer if it was free, or at least cheap and on the App Store.
I've had trouble deleting programs completely, and the process can differ from program to program, so any advice would be appreciated.  If there's a standard way of removing programs that's universal, then I only need that, but since I'm pretty sure that doesn't exist, I'd prefer software recommendations.
    Thanks for your responses.

    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item.  Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, EasyFind, instead.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Here is a selection:
        1. AppZapper 2.0.1
        2. AppDelete 3.2.6
        3. Automaton 1.50
        4. Hazel
        5. AppCleaner 2.1.0
        6. CleanApp
        7. iTrash 1.8.2
        8. Amnesia
        9. Uninstaller 1.15.1
      10. Spring Cleaning 11.0.1

  • Add/Remove Software doesn't work on Oracle EL5 x86-64

The answer I need is "How can I either get this to work or install software that I didn't install at original install time by some other means" Note:I know how to use rmp -i but knowing the name of the actual rpm is a bit tricky and would prefer to have something like this working. • White Macbook 2006 random shutdown solved removed cpu heatsink and more

I picked up a cheap macbook from a secondhand retailer for $300 and it regularly shutdown, froze, restarted as well as the grey kernel panic screen completely random no real pattern. I set about trying to solve the problem swapping ram and hard drive with my identical 2006 macbook (which I had similar problems with last year, fixed that one with a new battery connector cable). The ram and hard drive made no difference so I downloaded istat menus to see if any combination of cpu voltage, current and temperature were causing the random shutdowns. It seemed when the temperature reached certain values the computer would shutdown or freeze(around 30 to 50 degrees). I'd read on other forums about faulty cpu temperature diodes so I reapplied heatsink compound to the cpu heatsink and checked all the wiring for shorts but nothing seemed to solve the problem. I was ready to retire the computer and use it for spares for my other macbook when needed but I pulled the keyboard off one more time and tried something completely radical. This fix requires some forward planning and software installation but it has completely solved my Random shutdowns completely.
for instructions see my next post *Fix for random shutdowns white macbook*

Ok this is not for the non technical person but it is quite a simple process with the right instructions.
This first step is very important install the software coolbook($10) and fan control (Free)( not smc fan control). Set up coolbook to operate the cpu at the lowest speed and voltage for both power adapter and battery(1002MHz and .95Volts). Remove the keyboard to access the computer logic board (instructions can be found at iFixit). Remove the four screws and two connectors holding the heatsink to the logicboard and gently lift the heatsink out (very important that you leave the fan screwed in and connected). Close the computer back up if you wish to test just gently connect the keyboard and loosly sit the keyboard back in. Restart and reset the pram immediately. Let the computer boot up and then open system preferences and configure Fan Control to your liking. So far no random shutdowns for over a week (was getting many a day previously.

    Hey there,
Here is how you can uninstall using the scrubber that is built into the software. I included both options on how to access the scrubber. Just choose whatever option is easiest for you.
Option 1: From Original installation CD:
    1. Insert CD into drive, and then cancel the installer
    2. Open My Computer, and then right click on the CD drive and chose open
    3. Open folder Util
    4. Open folder CCC
    5. If you have an HP computer run the L3uninstall.exe. If you have a non-HP computer run the L4uninstall.exe
    6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
    7. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools
    8. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player
    http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
    9. Download the full feature software and drivers
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=al-64285-2&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...
    10. Run the download to reinstall the printer
Option 2: If software was downloaded and extracted to your system:
    1. Type %temp% in the run field
    2. Look for, and open the folder starting with 7z (Example: 7zS2356)
    3. Open folder Util
    4. Open folder CCC
    5. If you have an HP computer run the L3uninstall.exe. If you have a non-HP computer run the L4uninstall.exe
    6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
    7. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools
    8. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player
    http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
    9. Download the full feature software and drivers
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=al-64285-2&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...
    10. Run the download to reinstall the printer
    Hope this helps!

    Hi,
Today, I tried to update the OS of my Bold 9700 from 5.0.0.400 to 6.0 (Bundle 2534) using BlackBerry Desktop Manager v6.1.0.35.
I saved the datas on my BB, and then launched the update as asked, but after 1 hour of installation, the update got stuck on the 381st module (out of 496) !
I don't know weather I should disconnect my BB and try to reinstall completely the OS or continue to wait (it have been 2hours now...). Here are some pictures (the software comes in French) :
    Thanks for helping !

Edit: removed the pin from the img, thx !

    Hi, it's me again.
I waited again, a long time (~6h) then the program told me I had a proble in my internet connection (which must have been an interuption), then clicked "Try again" and the programm worked again. Untill saving the applications, and stuck again.
I then unplugged my BB, reboot my computer & BB, tried again and, surprisingly, everything went well !
So I guess, I'm still not happy with RIM technologies, but my problem is now solved.

  • [SOLVED] Remove / Uninstall 'supersonic' AUR package

Hi guys, I am setting up a home server which will have OwnCloud and some music streaming with Subsonic.
I read that Supersonic was a fork of Subsonic and was available on AUR so I installed that - though I cannot seem to get it to work, it starts OK but I cannot browse to MYHOMEURL:4040.
Anyways, I am now gonna install the actual subsonic from AUR but I cannot seem to uninstall supersonic using pacman.
    Pacman -Rsnc supersonic
...returns 'error: target not found: supersonic'
This is my first time using Arch and of course AUR so I cannot see how to remove this package.
