In fact, if I launch:
sudo -ll
the result is:
the user delvi can run the following command on delvi-arch:
Voce sudoers:
RunAsUsers: ALL
option: !authenticate
command: ALL
this is not good for me. how do I remove the !authenticate option?
P.S. sorry for my english... I'm italian.

  • [Solved]Sudo doesn't ask me for password .

Hi everyone, I've been playing around with my pam.d configuration files trying to configure my fingerprint reader, but I think I made a mistake and sudo doesn't ask me for my password anymore (nor for my fingerprint), it grants me permission automatically...
    This is my /etc/pam.d/sudo file:
    auth sufficient pam_fprint.so
    auth required pam_unix.so try_first_pass nullok_secure
    auth required pam_nologin.so
I've tried removing the "auth    sufficient    pam_fprint.so"  line and the "try_first_pass nullok_secure" but it doesn't work and I don't feel secure if it grants premissions so easily...
Anyone has a clue about what can be wrong? Thanks!

pointone wrote:Simply removing the pam_fprint.so line should bring you back close to default. However, your sudo timeout is probably still in effect, which is why you are still granted permissions without a password after making the change.
Yup, that was the problem >.< I thought the timeout didn't work when rebooting, but it does, so it's everything alright... Thanks to everyone anyway!

  • [solved] Sudo works with user password instead of admin password.

When i do a sudo command, it asks for a password. I enter my normal user password, and it works!
It doesn't work if I enter root password. Is this normal?

  • [SOLVED]GDM don't ask password and fail authentication

Solved by reinstalling all the stuff involved, like skunktrader said the .pacnew files are the NEW config files that we had to fill with our preferences, because it have new options or diferent stuff
    Thank you again Mr. skunktrader
    Hi everybody.
I was looking for tunning a bit my installation of arch. and ruined something about X and authentification.
the files I remember to have deleted are all in /etc that ends in "-" and  ".pacnew" and ".original"
those files includes shadow- and passwd-.
I was sure that those files are just backups, but now i dont know.
so, after that i run pacman -Syu, and then rebooted.
here is when all load exept gdm, which  show the above panel and the central square with my username. and the cursor from x shows a handclock like it's loading something but never ends to load. I click on my username and dont do anything. i pres enter and here it should ask my password but doesn't do anything, then i press enter again and says authentification failure.
im tried uninstalling, erasing all configs that i know about gdm, and reinstalling, but no make difference
i tried slim, kdm, enter, console login to x by .bash_profile, i tried start it in daemon in rc.conf and service in inittab but it still the same thing.
obiously i have all the functionality of console but none for X
this is the /var/log/gdm/:1-greeter.log. I think that it said something about this

You definitely need the space, if you're not using visudo to edit sudoers it won't pick up the errors.

  • Gparted doesn't ask for password (SOLVED)

    hi!
after a fresh reinstall of arch, when trying to start gparted, it doesn't ask me for root password. It simply says morelees that "gparted is potentially dangerous, and that i must be root". OK. But, in the previous arch installation, gparted, asked me for root password. and now no, why not?
In "privilige granting", su is selected, and it seems to work, as, for example, running "root terminal" it asks me for root password.
    Thanks!
SOLUTION: With the menu editor in gnome, i changed the default command to "gksu -l /usr/sbin/gparted", i now, it promps for the root password. Thanks anyway!

    SEB-APPSTORE,
I had a similar issue this how I dealt with it.
older version it may be creating problems. (they just did this starting 6/10)
WRITE DOWN ALL INFO IN ALL EDITABLE PANES IN CASE NEEDED LATER
I had this issue with passwords before and I first went and changes the password with the ESP, then I went to keychain access, passwords category, there you should see 2 mail entries imap. mail.xxxx..., and another with your email @ xxxx....
They should say application under kind column
Double click one one of them to open, then click show password, it will prompt you for the admin password, and probably again with user as well as password. Enter that info and it should show you the password, delete the password and re-enter to match the web based mail password, click save.
Repeat this for the other one, basically the same drill as above.
Then launch mail and sent something to yourself, like test, it may now prompt you for your password, enter it and click remember in my keychain, then click get mail it may a minute or two for the server to pass it along but it should come.
It took me a while to remember this, as I did it quite some time ago, when my esp changed the mail, previously.
    Hope this helps

  • Sudo doesn't work anymore, not permitting me to enter password

Since two days, sudo doesn't work for me anymore. When I do
    sudo any_command
    I get:
    Sorry, try again.
    Sorry, try again.
    Sorry, try again.
    sudo: 3 incorrect password attempts
I updated my server two days ago, but I cannot say whether it's related to my problem.
    Here's the result of doing
    tail /var/log/sudolog
    as root (su works):
    Oct 13 12:35:33 : kalasusi : 3 incorrect password attempts ; TTY=pts/2 ; PWD=/etc; USER=root ; COMMAND=/bin/ls
    Here's the result of doing
    tail /var/log/auth.log
as root (the last new lines after trying sudo again with my normal user):
    Oct 13 14:52:59 myserver sudo: pam_unix(sudo:auth): authentication failure; logname=kalasusi uid=0 euid=0 tty=/dev/pts/1 ruser=kalasusi rhost= user=kalasusi
    Oct 13 14:53:05 myserver sudo: kalasusi : 3 incorrect password attempts ; TTY=pts/1 ; PWD=/home/kalasusi ; USER=root ; COMMAND=/bin/ls
For some background info, the sudo troubleshooting guide identifies such a problem (the third Q&A):
    Q) Sudo never gives me a chance to enter a password using PAM, it just
says 'Sorry, try again.' three times and exits.
    A) You didn't setup PAM to work with sudo.  On Redhat Linux or Fedora
Core this generally means installing sample.pam as /etc/pam.d/sudo.
See the sample.pam file for hints on what to use for other Linux
       systems.
The only problem is that I didn't change anything from the Arch stock configuration of /etc/pam.d/sudo, and it used to work. Here's the result of
    cat /etc/pam.d/sudo
    on my system:
    #%PAM-1.0
    auth required pam_unix.so
    auth required pam_nologin.so
Something else that comes into my mind that might be connected with the problem is that at some point while doing maintenance on the server, I received the following error:
    Authentication token manipulation error.
Unfortunately I don't remember in what context it was or whether the problem started afterwards. I believe though the problem is either that or the update, because those are the two extraordinary things that happened on the server since the problem started.
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!

I'm in a Hampton Inn trying to connect my apple tv to the wifi.  Apple TV recognizes and says it's connected but doesn't ask for the password and is not actually connected because it can't download Itunes.  How can I get the Apple TV to ask for a password.  I noticed another wifi connection from someone in another room and when I clicked on that the Apple TV asked for the password, but doesn't for the hhonors wifi.  Anyone know what to do?

Thanks vazandrew.  I had to call the provider, but they have 24/7 service.  They had to manually add the device.  Thanks for your help.

    Back up all data.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select Change Settings for Keychain "login". In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences ▹ First Aid
If the box marked Keep login keychain unlocked is not checked, check it.
    Select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain. Quit Keychain Access.

  • How can I get FIREFOX to store password for the public library, since it doesn't ask me when I go to that site ?

My password at a particular website was changed recently, so I
removed that site from the list of saved passwords in Firefox
manager. Now, when I visit that site, FIREFOX doesn't ask me
to save the password for this site.
    WHY ?

The website may be using autocomplete=off to prevent Firefox from saving the name and password.
You can remove autocomplete=off with a bookmarklet to make Firefox save the name and password.

  • [solved] sudo: No password needed before graphical login?

Yesterday I was messing around a bit with SLiM. I didn't configure any sessions for it however, so I was forced to login trough a VT.
The funny thing is, on the VT, before loging in with a graphical manager, sudo didn't ask for a password. This was also the case when I using gdm. After I logged on to a graphical desktop, sudo would also ask for a password in de VT.

On my machine sudo 'remembers' me for up to five minutes so if you had used sudo just prior to that time this might be what is happening.
    from sudo man page:
Once a user has been authenticated, a timestamp is updated and the user may
then use sudo without a password for a short period of time (5 minutes unless
    overridden in sudoers).
    Otherwise, I am not sure.

Use the Settings app to select your Wi-Fi network.
Settings > Wi-Fi > Select the Wi-Fi Network that will not work > then select Forget this Network
After to accept this choice your iPad should see your network again and allow you to enter the new password.

My apple tv stuck at setting date and time. Also when connecting yo network doesn't ask for network password

I just went through this last night. (Aug 15, 2013)
What I did to get back up and running. This is not the first time I have lost the network connection with my Apple TV 3
Products effected: Apple TV 3 and Home Sharing (My Apple TV 1 was not effected)
Power down (unplug) the Apple TV and power down your router ( in my case, it is a FIOS router, flipping the on/off works fine).
    Power both items back up.
At this point, I usually can reenter my Apple ID and PW. and reconnect Home Sharing.  But for some reason I was unable to reconnect last night but was able to get it reconnected in the morning. I was jut to tired to deal with it last night.
A new issue that is was able to fix after a good nights sleep.
I did figure out, (after trying to reenter my ID and PW many times and having it tell me that my ID and PW was wrong), that when using the Apple TV on screen keypad to type in the user ID. DO NOT use the ".com" keypad button. Instead type out each character for .com. ( or what ever ending you use for your ID account.)
Once I typed out my full ID and PW. everything is back to 100%

    Hello everyone,
i wonder that is there a way to make the portal doesn't ask username and password.
I mean when you open url :

    Hi Ali,
You can configure the Kerberos authentication for using integrated Windows authentication.
The Kerberos protocol is an integral part of the Windows 2000 operating system and enables Windows Integrated Authentication in a Windows Domain without an intermediary Web server.  <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/43/4bd58c6c5e5f34e10000000a1553f6/frameset.htm">See the Link</a>
    Hope it helps.
    Thanks,
    Ami

  • [SOLVED] sudo doesnt work

    Hi guys,
I'm having the strangest issues since my last installation of archlinux. First I could not login into any tty (after entering the username, nothing happened). I could solve that by installing the util-linux package. Now I cannot use sudo.
The user is in the group wheel (which is uncommented in sudoers). I have changed nothing in the sudoers file, here's the content:
    ## sudoers file.
    ## This file MUST be edited with the 'visudo' command as root.
    ## Failure to use 'visudo' may result in syntax or file permission errors
    ## that prevent sudo from running.
    ## See the sudoers man page for the details on how to write a sudoers file.

    ## IP addresses, network numbers or netgroups.

    ## User alias specification
    ## Groups of users. These may consist of user names, uids, Unix groups,
    ## or netgroups.
    # User_Alias ADMINS = millert, dowdy, mikef
    ## Cmnd alias specification

    ## Defaults specification
    ## You may wish to keep some of the following environment variables
    ## when running commands via sudo.
    ## Locale settings
    # Defaults env_keep += "LANG LANGUAGE LINGUAS LC_* _XKB_CHARSET"
    ## Run X applications through sudo; HOME is used to find the
    ## .Xauthority file. Note that other programs use HOME to find
    ## configuration files and this may lead to privilege escalation!

    # Defaults env_keep += "XDG_SESSION_COOKIE"

    ## this may allow users to subvert the command being run via sudo.
    # Defaults env_keep += "XMODIFIERS GTK_IM_MODULE QT_IM_MODULE QT_IM_SWITCHER"
    ## Uncomment to enable logging of a command's output, except for
    ## sudoreplay and reboot. Use sudoreplay to play back logged sessions.

In the auth.log there are following lines which seem to be important:
Jul 12 13:46:18 localhost sudo: PAM _pam_init_handlers: no default config /etc/pam.d/other
Jul 12 13:46:21 localhost sudo: PAM no modules loaded for `sudo' service
Jul 12 13:46:22 localhost sudo: pam_unix(sudo:auth): conversation failed
Jul 12 13:46:22 localhost sudo: pam_unix(sudo:auth): auth could not identify password for [archUser]
    Jul 12 13:46:22 localhost sudo: archUser: 1 incorrect password attempt ; TTY=pts/2 ; PWD=/home/archUser; USER=root ; COMMAND=/usr/bin/pacman -Syyuu
So I looked up the content of /etc/pam.d/sudo:
    root@arch /etc/pam.d # cat sudo
    #%PAM-1.0
    auth required pam_unix.so
    auth required pam_nologin.so
The files pam_unix.so and pam_nologin.so are both saved in /usr/lib/security.
I noticed that if I enter the password wrong, I need to wait one or two seconds before I can try it again (this behaviour seems to be normal). But when I enter the password correct, there is no waiting time and I can enter the pass again.
I have no idea what to do and hope that anyone can help me to use sudo again.
4 years ago, after installing archlinux the first time, I had not a single error. Everything worked just fine but now I get two errors at once after the installation!

seriously? it is stated in multiple news, the wiki and in about every third forum thread that you shouldn't use force unless you know exactly what you are doing or you are explicitly told to use it. I don't blame you that you didn't notice this, a lot of people don't (unfortunately). But when people correct you and want to help you are like "whatever, I do what I want! go away!" ???
And what do you think the search function is for?
Please stay away from Arch... geez...
Come on, do you seriously think you are the only one using the search function? Show me some threads with the solution for my issue!
