[solved] Sudo works with user password instead of admin password.

When i do a sudo command, it asks for a password. I enter my normal user password, and it works!
It doesn't work if I enter root password. Is this normal?

Yes that makes sense, however have you updated it at My Apple ID before trying to change it in your system preferences > iCloud settings, you must do that first.

installing microsoft office for mac and getting prompt for installer password.  i have put in apple id password and admin password and not working, i have also reset my admin password 3 times and it is still not working? how do i get past this?

You don't use your Apple ID or its password to install anything on your Mac. You use the admin account's name and password.
Use the name and password you last entered when resetting them. The "name" you use is not the short name of the admin account folder.
For example. If you create an admin account of John Smith, the short name given to that account's folder will be johnsmith. So when an app requests an admin name and password to install something, the admin name you enter is John Smith, not johnsmith.

  • [Not solved][Sudo/X] Enter key not released after typing password

After upgrade to xserver 1.16 I noticed strange thing - any command I try to run with sudo "hangs" keyboard and mouse. It looks like after typing password and pressing <Enter>, this key is not released.
System is still responsive, for example I can watch youtube, listen to music, there is no high cpu usage, but inputs are blocked.
    For example:
    sudoedit /etc/whateverrc
opens editor and cursor goes down.
This is not a problem with my keyboard
    In tty sudo works fine.

    What is in your journal/logs?
After "hang" X still works, so I need to kill it (alt+sysrq+re) or reboot.

  • Working with user-defined forms in SBO

    Hi, newby here.
What is the right way to work with userdefined-forms in SBO?
My add-on adds a button to a system-form (when it is loaded).
User presses the new button, and the following code is executed:
    - LoadFromXML("MyForm.xml")         ( like the sample code)
    - oForm = SBO_Application.Forms.Item("SBOFormEditor_11")
    - oForm.visible = true
    The user-form is displayed
User presses the OK button on the new user-form, which triggers
    - oForm.close()
This works. But a possible disadvantage may be that the form is loaded from XML, each time the user clicks the new button on the system-form.
I would prefer to load the form once, upon starting the add-on. And then display or hide it, by simply turning the oForm.visible-switch on and off. So, when user clicks the OK button: oForm.visible = false.
The problem here is that when the user clicks the close-form button (X), the new form seems to be gone/destroyed/removed.
So, when the user clicks the new button, I need to know how the user exited the new form previously:
If user clicked OK, then I can set the oForm.visible switch on,
but if the user had closed the form, I need to re-load it from XML.
In my experience, if a solution is not pretty, there is usually a better one. But then again...beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Any comments, or better alternatives, would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Erwin

    Hi Erwin,
    Welcome to the forum.
I don't think I've ever seen an addon which hides its forms until they are needed again but it's an interesting idea. Whereas I can see some advantages, I'd be inclined to always load the form from XML for a few reasons:
    1) Most of the time I tend to be working with multiple instances of the same user form (ie the user can open my form multiple times like a lot of the system forms). Keeping track of how many instances of my form are open and whether they are hidden or not is more of a pain than just closing and opening the form.
    2) Hidden forms still take up memory on the workstation, although that's probably a minor issue for one or two forms at a time.
    3) Unless the form is quite complex (ie large number of controls or lots of comboboxes to populate) the load speed is acceptable.
If your form is quite complex and the user is likely to be opening and closing it regularly then I can see an advantage in hiding the form until it is needed again as this should speed up the response time.
There are ways to stop the user closing your form unless they use the Ok or Cancel buttons:

  • Mobile User doesnt work with user directory set on external drive

i'm in the progress of migrating some users from local user accounts to mobile user accounts.
unfunny thing is that creating the local copy of the mobile user accounts works perfect if the user directory is set on the internal drive of leopard server, however if I move the directory to an external drive no more locale login is possible, just "an error has occured" is reported.
I suspect a problem with user rights on the acl, however I havnt got an idea how to set them properly.

I'm having the same problem with Network Homes. When I create then in Workgroup Manager on the main drive with Mac OS X Server it all works great. When I create and share a folder on the second internal disk the client get "an error occurred" message.
Does the name of the folder matter?
    Server HD/Users/glimonez - Works like a charm
    Same Xserve second drive
Data/Users/glimonez - an error has occurred"
What should the permissions be for the Users folder on Data? What should I use to change them?
Also, is there a way to apply the default permissions to a users home folder? Desktop, Downloads etc for them only, and Public and sites to whatever they should be? I've only seen "apply permissions to folder and everything enclosed" options.
    Sorry for long post

  • The condition for action don't work with user status

    Hello,

    Hi Anette ...
The app runs on iOS 5.1.1 or later as noted here >  https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/bejeweled-hd/id517260318?mt=8
But does not necessarily mean the developer updated the app for iOS 8 compatibility.

  • Is there a Labview Chroma6310 driver that works with serial port instead of GPIB?

The driver that I have downloaded from NI site is based on GPIB, I need to run it via serial port. I don't have GPIB board. I am pretty new in NI world. How easily can I convert the GPIB driver to serial port (ASRL)? Has anybody already done this? Any help on this is highly appreciated.
    Best regards,
    Farsh

I haven't looked at the driver and I'm not familiar with the instrument but the conversion should be pretty simple. If it uses VISA for the GPIB communication, the conversion is already done. VISA works with both GPIB and serial - just use the name of the serial port as the VISA reference name. This would be ASRL1 or Com1. If it's an older driver with the traditional GPIB calls, then replace every instance of GPIB Write and GPIB Read with VISA Write and VISA Read. You might also have to add some line terminator like CR/LF to every write. There are a lot of instrument drivers that are compatible with both serial and GPIB. The HP34970 is one that comes to mind. You might want to look at it to see how to do it yourself.

  • I have followed the steps to remove a saved password, but it hasn't actually removed it from firefox as there is a general password and an admin password. I accidently saved the general password so unable to open as an admin. Thank you for your help.

I have followed the steps under security within Firefox to remove a saved password, but it hasn't actually removed it. I removed it and then tried to sign on again and it automatically went to the saved password. This URL uses an admin and a general password and I accidentally saved the general password so unable to open as an admin. When I go to the URL to enter my admin password it goes to the saved general password. As administrator for my church website, I can't get into it and make changes without using my admin password.

    SYNOPSIS
tv_grab_nl_py is a python script that trawls tvgids.nl for TV
programming information and outputs it in XMLTV-formatted output (see
    http://membled.com/work/apps/xmltv). Users of MythTV
(http://www.mythtv.org) will appreciate the output generated by this
grabber, because it fills the category fields, i.e. colors in the EPG,
and has logos for most channels automagically available. Check the
website below for screenshots. The newest version of this script can be
    found here:
    http://code.google.com/p/tvgrabnlpy/
    USAGE
Check the web site above and/or run script with --help and start from there
    HISTORY
tv_grab_nl_py used to be called tv_grab_nl_pdb, first released on
2003/07/09. The name change was necessary because more and more people
are actively contributing to this script and I always disliked using my
initials (I was just too lazy to change it). At the same time I switched
from using CVS to SVN and as a result the version numbering scheme has
changed. The lastest official release of tv_grab_nl_pdb is 0.48. The
first official release of tv_grab_nl_py is 6.
    QUESTIONS
Questions (and patches) are welcome at: paul at pwdebruin dot net.
    IMPORTANT NOTES
If you were using tv_grab_nl from the XMLTV bundle then enable the
compat flag or use the --compat command-line option. Otherwise, the
xmltvid's are wrong and you will not see any new data in MythTV.
    CONTRIBUTORS
Main author: Paul de Bruin (paul at pwdebruin dot net)
Michel van der Laan made available his extensive collection of
high-quality logos that is used by this script.
Michael Heus has taken the effort to further enhance this script so that
    it now also includes:
    - Credit info: directors, actors, presenters and writers
    - removal of programs that are actually just groupings/broadcasters
    (e.g. "KETNET", "Wild Friday", "Z@pp")
    - Star-rating for programs tipped by tvgids.nl
    - Black&White, Stereo and URL info

Running the script by python2 solves it for me:
    su - mythtv -c "nice -n 19 python2 /usr/bin/tv_grab_nl_py --output ~/listings.xml"

  • Messenger not working with non-apple cells after changing password iOS password

I changed my password because apple decided to not accept my password simply trying to download an app and after i got home, i lost capabitilty of texting to non-iphones through the messenger app.
It absolutely lost the capability i had before simply by changing my password.
I tried relogging in in all my devices iphone, ipad, and macbook pro and though i can text fine on my iphone, i no longer can text outside of the apple world to android cell phone users.
How do i regain connectivity to the rest of the world instead of just apples?!
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi,
If the iCloud ID is the same one you use in Messages for the iMessages account then you need to change the password there and in all other devices.
As you tend to be unable to change all devices at the same time the link between the iPhone number and th Apple ID tends to get lost which then means any Text Forwarding linking also gets broken.
On the Mac Version Untick the Enable box for the iMessages account.
On the iPhone remove the Apple ID and place the iPhone in Airplane mode for a good two minutes.
Go back to the Messages settings after this and make sure the iPhone number Verifies.
When this is done turn th Enable box back On on the Mac version.
Untick the iPhone number as a Receive "ID".  This may make the Start Conversation From drop down disappear.
Send an iMessages from the iPhone (it can only use it's number) to the Apple ID (Effectively the Mac)
    Send a reply.
This will check that the iPhone  (Number) can Send and Receive.
Now on the iPhone Add back the Apple ID to re-link them.
This should cause the Pop up to appear on the Mac.
If it does not Restart the Mac version.
This should Enable the unticked iPhone number in the Receive At list and make the Start Form drop down appear.
    Now Reset the Text Forwarding.
