[SOLVED] udev not creating gamepad device

I'm having trouble with an USB gamepad that actually is an Playstation controller adapter in Arch, I cannot use it in PCSX-Reloaded for instance.
Here's the output of lsusb when plugged:
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 8087:0024 Intel Corp. Integrated Rate Matching Hub
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 8087:0024 Intel Corp. Integrated Rate Matching Hub
Bus 003 Device 011: ID 0e8f:0003 GreenAsia Inc. MaxFire Blaze2
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 0489:e036 Foxconn / Hon Hai
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 04f2:b32f Chicony Electronics Co., Ltd
The gamepad is correctly listed as Bus 003 Device 011 (GreenAsia Inc. MaxFire Blaze2). But I think udev is not creating the /dev/input/js0 device as it should (it works on my Slackware 14.0 box), as the output of ls /dev/input is:
by-id event1 event12 event3 event6 event9 mouse1
by-path event10 event13 event4 event7 mice
event0 event11 event2 event5 event8 mouse0
What should I do? Does other USB gamepads are configured automatically? Is my device too old/incompatible with Arch? Or is it a bug?

I would be nice if you would share your solution so other members could benefit - even if it is a mistake or misconfiguration by yourself
My Dragonfire pad requires the "joydev" module, for example.
# modprobe joydev

  • A6720y-DirectX could not create graphic device.

    Hello all,
     I have an HP Pavilian Desktop a6720y with windows vista. I had a corrupt boot structure and had to reinstall everything, when i attempt to run a game I get an error "direct x could not create graphic device". I noticed that my Nvidia card was not showing up and got that issue resolved but now I show a standard VGA and my Nvidia in device manager so i disabled the Standard. The main issue is that It still gives me the error when i try to play the game.. When i do Dxdiag it shows N/A under the video tab but in device manager it shows the Nvidia card. Am i doing something wrong? What am I missing?

    Hello Aissa2326.  I understand you're having some troubles playing games.
    It is likely that you're just missing the required drivers for your hardware.  Try installing both the HP Software Framework and HP Support Assistant.  Then, you can run HP Support Assistant and it will automatically scan your system and install any missing drivers or HP software.
    Let me know the result and I hope you have an amazing day!
    Please click the white star under my name to give me Kudos as a way to say "Thanks!"

  • [Solved] Can't boot; udev not creating /dev/disk/

    After doing a system upgrade I can no longer boot.  I get the message that /dev/disk/by-uuid/{device id} cannot be found.  (There is no /dev/disk/ path at all).  I tried changing the grub boot path to dev/sdaX, but /dev/sda?? are also not created.
    I have a Fedora rescue CD lying around, and if I boot from that I can see and mount the boot device (/dev/disk/by-uuid/ is created), so I don't think it's a hardware issue.

    Booting from a NetInstaller CD worked.
    A couple of notes in case others have the same issue.
    I had to turn on networking before I could run pacman.  I turned on networking by issuing these commands (not sure of the proper order for them or if they're all necessary, but it worked):
    /etc/rc.d/networking start
    ip link set eth0 up
    dhcpd
    I then ran through the steps listed at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pa … nger_boot.  , but I got errors on "mkinitcpio -p linux" so I added "pacman -S linux," which seemed to include mkinitcpio, but I ran mkinitcpio again afterwards just to be sure and got no errors.

  • [SOLVED] Udev missing MD raid devices

    I have a non-root raid partition that is not being detected during boot-up. The problem is that udev is not creating the /dev/md/0 mount point. I can use mknod to create the mount point, but it will disappear after the next init.
    So, how can I force UDEV to create the /dev/md/* mount points?

    Thanks ... I realized this after some more experimentation! Everything is working now.

  • [solved] Digital Camera not recognized in device-manager

    My digital camera "Canon Powershot SX120 is" is not recognized by the devicemanager. I have read Digital Cameras.
    $ groups
    wheel storage users printadmin
    The "camera"-Group isn't needed anymore and this group doesn't exist on my system.
    The Powershot SX 120 has a  MTP/PTP connection mode (as the manual says). But:
    # mtp-detect
    Unable to open ~/.mtpz-data for reading, MTPZ disabled.libmtp version: 1.1.6
    Listing raw device(s)
    No raw devices found.
    gphoto succeed:
    $ gphoto2 --auto-detect
    Modell Port
    Canon PowerShot SX120 IS usb:002,019
    A gphoto --summary could be found here
    There is no udev-rule for this camera. If i create one while copying a rule from a similar camera from /etc/udev/rules.d/69-libmtp.rules, and store it into /etc/udev/rules.d/69-canon.rules, the device-manager shows up. My udev-rule:
    # Canon PowerShot SX120AX (PTP/MTP mode)
    ATTR{idVendor}=="04a9", ATTR{idProduct}=="31e0", SYMLINK+="libmtp-%k", ENV{ID_MTP_DEVICE}="1", ENV{ID_MEDIA_PLAYER}="1"
    The device-manager shows me only the option to open with a file-manager. Doing so will result in an error:
    The file or folder udi=/org/kde/solid/udev/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.1/usb2/2-8/ do not exist.
    With my udev-rule:
    solid-hardware listen
    Object::connect: No such signal org::freedesktop::UPower::DeviceAdded(QDBusObjectPath)
    Object::connect: No such signal org::freedesktop::UPower::DeviceRemoved(QDBusObjectPath)
    Listening to add/remove events:
    Device Added:
    udi = '/org/kde/solid/udev/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.1/usb2/2-8'
    Without the active udev-rule, "solid-hardware listen" produces nothing, but
    udevadm monitor
    monitor will print the received events for:
    UDEV - the event which udev sends out after rule processing
    KERNEL - the kernel uevent
    KERNEL[5077.662572] add /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.1/usb2/2-8 (usb)
    KERNEL[5077.662655] add /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.1/usb2/2-8/2-8:1.0 (usb)

    UDEV [5077.693035] add /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.1/usb2/2-8/2-8:1.0 (usb)
    Don't know what to do ... is a udev-rule necessary to bring up the message from device-manger? Or is the Camera not recognized as a mtp-device (the Camera has no such settings)? How could i figure it out?
    With Digikam i could import Fotos, but i would do so with gwenview. I've tried to check it out with gwenview_importer:
    $ gwenview_importer --udi '/org/kde/solid/udev/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.1/usb2/2-8'
    QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
    gwenview_importer: Missing required source folder argument.
      (don't care about the different udi, i took this example from a former try) but i don't know, how to find out where the "source folder" is ...

    I have solved this by making an extra udev-rule for my camera. See my adventure on forum.kde.org for details

  • When I start Internet Sharing /etc/bootpd.plist is not created and the other device is not assigned an IP address.

    Just like the tite says. I am investigating why my Macbook Pro (3,1) running Mountain Lion will not assign an IP address to a computer connected via Ethernet when Internet Sharing is turned on (laptop receiving WiFi connection, supposed to be sharing connection over ethernet). I tested using a relatives macbook and it worked just fine. It turns out my laptop is not creating the file: /etc/bootpd.plist when Internet Sharing is turned on.

    Solved it, at least temporarily:
    Investigate process binding port 67 with the following command:
    sudo lsof -i 67
    Close the offending process (in this case: bootps):
    sudo /bin/launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/bootps.plist
    Start internet sharing again from the system preferences panel

  • Why do I get error 'Could not create temporary file. No space left on device" when I use the Engine Installation Wizard in TestStand?

    The process gets to the NIVISA\SETUP.INI step, then I get this error.
    I've tried with installing the MDAC and not, and it happens both times.
    The drive I'm trying to create the file to has 7.4GB open on it, so I'm not sure why this is happening.
    Thank you,
    Dave Neumann

    Dave,
    This is documented in the KnowledBase 2D6A63VW titled: "Error: Could Not Create Temporary File, No Space Left on Device".
    As RByrd suggested, you might need to free up some memory space in your System Temp directory, OR you may change the location of your System Temp directory to one with more space (such as the directory where you want the TestStand Engine files to be saved). The Knowledbase shows how to do this step by step. This is its URL:

  • Udev doesn't create sd* devices in /dev

    Today I updated udev package and after it I can't start my system. The booting stops with the message about check filesystem manually. When I tried to do this I couldn't find any sd* devices in /dev. Kernel detects all drives and correspond files presents in /sys/block directory. I can make device files with mknod command using information from /sys.
    How do I make udev to create device files in /dev?
    Sorry for bad English.

    I just found one more interesting thing. When I test udev rules by "udevadm test /block/sdb/sdb2" udev creates correct device files - /dev/disk/ dev/block and /dev/sd*. But at daemon mode - udevd --daemon it doesn't do anything!
    Does anybody know how to fix this?

  • Udev not loading the right driver for usbtmc device

    I have a usb beam profiler  and I'm trying to get it to work on arch linux. It works using NI-VISA, so I should be able to communicate with it using usbtmc. However, when I plug it in, it does not show up in /dev.
    I think the problem is that udev is not loading the tmc interface driver when I plug it in.
    Here's a snippet of the output from lsusb -v:
    Interface Descriptor:
    bLength 9
    bDescriptorType 4
    bInterfaceNumber 0
    bAlternateSetting 0
    bNumEndpoints 4
    bInterfaceClass 255 Vendor Specific Class
    bInterfaceSubClass 0
    bInterfaceProtocol 0
    iInterface 0
    I believe that bInterface* should look something like:
    bInterfaceClass 254 Application Specific Interface
    bInterfaceSubClass 3 Test and Measurement
    bInterfaceProtocol 1 TMC
    iInterface 5 TMC488
    Is there a way to force udev to load the right interface? Or is the problem that I'm missing something from my kernel?

    Could you post the entire output of lsusb -v for the device?

    Not sure, but probably /dev/usbtmc0

    Nope, don't have a /dev/usbhid0

    Had a crash and reinstalled everything.  All is OK, except when I open Acrobat 9, I get the message "CoCreateInstance failed - Could not create 3D mouse device".  Tried unchecking anything in Acrobat preferences having to do with 3D, and I don't currently have a 3D mouse device installed.  Can't find any other reference in Google that includes both Acrobat and the contents of the message, part or all.  Ran "repair acrobat installation" and rebooted, and that didn't help.  Totally stumped!

    use the cs cleaner.
    first uninstall your cs5 programs (including acrobat) and uninstall adobe reader.
    run the cleaner for reader:  http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
    restart your computer.
    then run the cs cleaner (http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html)
    restart your computer

  • Why does Group created on Master console does not show any device count mapped on the managed Amp?

    Q: Why does Group created on Master console does not show any device count mapped on the managed Amp?
    A: When a group is created on master console it will be pushed to all the managed amp which is added with Manage group configuration enabled. The Group pushed to the managed amp will be created as Global group and you can create subscriber groups for the global group to which you will add the device into since we cannot add any devices into global group directly.
    Hence there is no device added to the global group, on the master console it does not show any device count for the groups that are created on master console.

  • [SOLVED] Udev: recognising plugging/unplugging of USB Audio Device

    Hi!
    I am trying to write an udev rule to detect if an usb audio device was plugged / unplugged to change my default audio device (in effect this udev rule should run a bash script..).
    Right now it looks like that:
    KERNEL=="pcmC[D0-9cp]*", DRIVERS=="usb", ACTION=="add", PROGRAM="/bin/bash -c '/home/me/dotfiles/soundconf.sh attached'"
    and I have a second rule for "remove" instead of add calling a different parameter.
    However, unfortunately the change is not being detected. my sound devices are listed in e.g. /proc/asound/card0/pcm0c etc for my first card and /proc/asound/card4/... for the second.
    They are also listed in /proc/asound/NAMEOFCARD (e.g. PCH).
    how can i reliably detect if one was plugged or unplugged?
    thanks !

    please not that my usb soundcard is attached through a usb hub to my laptop and that it was attached when I ran the command, then removed it and attached it again.
    tried to use those udev rules:
    KERNEL=="pcmC1D1p", DRIVERS=="usb", ACTION=="add", RUN+="/bin/bash -c '/home/me/dotfiles/soundconf.sh attached'"
    KERNEL=="pcmC1D1p", DRIVERS=="usb", ACTION=="remove", RUN+="/bin/bash -c '/home/me/dotfiles/soundconf.sh detached'"
    to no avail unfortunately...
    thanks a lot for your patience and time !

  • Solved: Udev rules not working

    I have file called "/etc/udev/rules.d/99-monitor-hotplug.rules" with this rule:
    ACTION=="change", SUBSYSTEM=="drm", RUN+="/root/scripts/hotPlugMonitor.sh"
    But hotPlugMonitor.sh-script is not ran even thought it has permission to be ran and
    udevadm monitor --property
    gives:

    You got the command slightly wrong. See the right command:
    udevadm control --reload
    From:
    $ udevadm control --help | grep reload
    --reload reload rules and databases
