[SOLVED] upgrade problems because of codecs: /usr/lib/win32

When trying to upgrade my Arch64 I encountered an error with conflicting codecs. The error message says:
error: the following file conflicts were found:
  codecs: /usr/lib/win32: exists in filesystem
The codecs which where about to be installed are
codecs-20061203-1
Any hints on that? Do I need to deinstall old codecs and if so why did pacman not succeed?

Thanks a lot, Andy. That did the trick!

Double tap Home button, delete Mail from multitask-bar.
Do a reset (Hold Sleep/Wake and Home buttons about 10 secs or more till Apple logo appears, ignore the Slide to Power Off that appears)
Note: You will not lose any data.

  • [SOLVED] systemd uses cronie.service in /usr/lib instead of /etc

I've been having a little problem getting systemd to use my custom service file for cronie. I've tried doing the same thing with ntpd and a few other services, and they all work fine.
    [root@garrett garrett]# cp /{usr/lib,etc}/systemd/system/cronie.service
    [root@garrett garrett]# systemctl reenable cronie.service
    rm '/etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/cronie.service'
    ln -s '/etc/systemd/system/cronie.service' '/etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/cronie.service'
    [root@garrett garrett]# systemctl status cronie.service
    cronie.service - Periodic Command Scheduler
    Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/cronie.service; enabled)
    Active: inactive (dead)
    CGroup: name=systemd:/system/cronie.service
Sep 13 21:32:52 garrett /usr/sbin/crond[622]: (CRON) INFO (running with inotify support)
It appears to have something to do with the crond.service symlink to cronie.service, since when I remove it, systemd will use the service file in /etc.
    [root@garrett garrett]# rm /usr/lib/systemd/system/crond.service
    [root@garrett garrett]# cp /{usr/lib,etc}/systemd/system/cronie.service
    [root@garrett garrett]# systemctl reenable cronie.service
    rm '/etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/cronie.service'
    ln -s '/etc/systemd/system/cronie.service' '/etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/cronie.service'
    [root@garrett garrett]# systemctl status cronie.service
    cronie.service - Periodic Command Scheduler
    Loaded: loaded (/etc/systemd/system/cronie.service; enabled)
    Active: inactive (dead)
    CGroup: name=systemd:/system/cronie.service
Sep 13 21:32:52 garrett /usr/sbin/crond[622]: (CRON) INFO (running with inotify support)
However, these symlinks don't cause problems in other packages such as with cups.service, which has a symlink cupsd.service. I also tried the same commands above on another arch computer I have that is running systemd and encountered the same results. This just seems really strange, and I'm not exactly sure where to go from here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • [SOLVED]ld cannot find -l-L/usr/lib -lalleg error

I just installed allegro4 (I know it's outdated but I don't really know much allegro 5 and I need to make a game as a project for school), and everything seems to be working fine. I'm using Code::Blocks. In the Settings->Compiler and Debugger window under the Linker Settings tab I have set
    `allegro-config --libs`
When I compile, I get the following error
    ld cannot find -l-L/usr/lib -lalleg
I've tried searching for errors similar to this on google but I haven't had much luck.

axs wrote:It should be -L/usr/lib -lalleg; judging by the message, you have -l"-L/usr/lib -lalleg"
My guess is that you put `allegro-config --libs` where your IDE expects library name while it should go to where IDE expects linker options.
That worked perfectly. Thank you very much.

  • [Solved] Upgrade fails because of net-tools

It was almost a week since I last did a "pacman -Syu" on my system. Before that, I had read about depreciation of net-tools and have already modified my rc.conf to use the newer simple network setup. Everything was working fine. Even upgradation of the system (pacman -Syu) also worked fine last week.
I was out of town for a few days. So, when I came back on Sunday, I tried updating the system. Pacman found updates and downloaded them. But it failed when actually upgrading the packages. It gives the following error:

As you can see it complains about /bin/hostname file existing in the filesystem and that causing problem for net-tools package. I'm not sure how or why this happened. The /bin/hostname is supposed to be available on the filesystem, right?
Since net-tools was depreciated in favour of netcfg, I tried removing net-tools. When I try that, it offers to remove netcfg package as well!
    [vinay@arch ~]$ sudo pacman -Rcsu net-tools

What I did was to upgrade each package manually (excluding net-tools package). But this is cumbersome and tedious. I did a search on the forum and on internet and did not find other people with the same problem. So, is something wrong/corrupt on my arch installation?
If so, how do I fix it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Vinay V

Thanks for the reply. I should have searched for a generic "exists in filesystem" rather than net-tools error specific "/bin/hostname exists in filesystem". I thought this was because of the recent move to netcfg from net-tools. Maybe I'm mistaken.
Anyway, thanks for pointing out that stikie to me. Let me try the suggestions in that post

I managed to solve the issue commenting the --indirect-rendering flag and installing and launching driconf to create a default ~/.drirc file.
I just noticed that in the same upgrade I got intel-dri from 8.x to 9.x version, maybe it's related.
Launching a terminal in .xinitrc and manually launching
    LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose compiz --debug --replace ccp
show me a lot of errors, but it's working, and I don't need anymore the --indirect-rendering flag (in the past I put that flag in the command because of the bad performance that compiz had without).

  • [SOLVED] glibc upgrade problem (moved /lib myself)

    Hi,
I went to upgrade my Archlinux system,
and had to apply both the June and July intervention upgrades described in the announcements.
Neither of the sets of instructions worked on their own,
and before I thought of how to combine them properly,
I tried moving the files from /lib to /usr/lib and making /lib a symlink (to usr/lib),
so that maybe I could skip the July intervention instructions.
I didn't break my system (for long), I successfully moved the stuff over,
      and then I ran
pacman -Syu --ignore glibc --ignore filesystem
    pacman -S filesystem --force
and then the upgrade was mostly done.
But then upgrading to glibc still doesn't work.
      From pacman -Su,
      I get the output
error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files)
    glibc: /lib exists in filesystem
    glibc: /usr/lib/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 exists in filesystem

    glibc: /usr/lib/libthread_db.so.1 exists in filesystem
    glibc: /usr/lib/libutil.so.1 exists in filesystem
      Running
    grep '^lib/' /var/lib/pacman/local/*/files
      returns
    /var/lib/pacman/local/gcc-multilib-4.7.0-6/files:lib/
    /var/lib/pacman/local/gcc-multilib-4.7.0-6/files:lib/cpp

    /var/lib/pacman/local/lib32-glibc-2.15-10/files:lib/ld-linux.so.2
      Running
    find /lib -exec pacman -Qo -- {} +
      returns
    error: No package owns /lib
So it seems that there was more to be done than just moving the lib files and making the symlink...
I'm sorry that I went against the instructions,
but I had to deviate in some way to do this upgrade.
I just probably deviated in the wrong direction.
Does anyone know how I can finish upgrading my system?
I can think of things to try, but I don't want to be wrong and make it worse.

If not, you should be okay forcing the glibc update at this point.
    I did.
    It worked.
    My system is saved.
    Thank you very much.
What follows is information about what I did since your post, in case it helps anyone else.
Are you sure that you've updated all the file locations for glibc?
No. I don't understand the structure of pacman well enough to know that there isn't another set of files I have to edit.
I had gcc-multilib and glibc complaining when I tried pacman -Su
I did see a thread where someone said that uninstalling everything that complains, except for glibc, allows glibc to upgrade.
I tried to run pacman -R gcc-multilib, but a package complained that it needed gcc, as if gcc and gcc-multilib are the same thing.
I gave up on that lead there.
    After the advice here,
I tried figuring out what --force does.
man pacman said that it does "Bypass file conflict checks and overwrite conflicting files."
Then I tried finding out what conflict checks get done.
I looked at the pacman source code and learnt nothing useful.
Then I looked inside the package archive for glibc. (/var/cache/pacman/pkg/glibc-2.16.0-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz)
Inside, it was in the structure of a root file system, with presumably the set of files it would try to copy into my system.
I saw that all the files getting complained about were symlinks in both the archive and my system.
I couldn't just delete them all off my system because /lib was one of them.
I looked at the other files in the archive, and there was only one file I was afraid of it overwriting - locale.gen,
so I backed up locale.gen, and did
    pacman --force -S glibc
    That ran without complaints.
    Then I ran
    pacman -Su
That ran without complaints and upgraded about 5 things.
Then I rebooted, and I could succesfully start X and visit this webpage.
Also, I installed my system in early June. That's why I didn't try the "for installs that have not been updated during 2012" package.
I didn't know why that was there, so I didn't know that it would apply to me.
Or if the way the wiki article did apply to my exact situation is something else, then I still haven't found it.

So what I gather from the discussion here is that this (nvidia-dkms) should only be used for custom kernels?  And the topic should be a sub topic of https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NV … tom_kernel?  Is that right?
    Thanks for you help.

  • [Solved]/usr/lib/libwx_gtk2u_core-2.8.so.0 is truncated

Since before I can remember I've had the following output after installing anything from pacman:
    /sbin/ldconfig: file /usr/lib/libwx_gtk2u_stc-2.8.so.0.1.1 is truncated
    /sbin/ldconfig: file /usr/lib/libwx_gtk2u_stc-2.8.so is truncated

    /sbin/ldconfig: file /usr/lib/libwx_gtk2u_core-2.8.so.0.1.1 is truncated
    /sbin/ldconfig: file /usr/lib/libwx_gtk2u_core-2.8.so.0 is truncated

    /sbin/ldconfig: file /usr/lib/libwx_gtk2u_core-2.8.so.0 is truncated
I hoped it would be ok to forget about it, but no such luck. Now I'm trying to compile amule-cvs from yaourt:
    /usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gnu/4.2.2/../../../libwx_gtk2u_core-2.8.so: file not recognized
Compilation then stops. So, are the two problems related? I've tried the main amule package in extra for the time being, but when I run it I get 'bus error' from the console, so I really would like the cvs version.

The files are owned by wxgtk-2, so I just made sure all the corrupt versions of the package were removed from my cache.
    sudo rm /var/cache/pacman/pkg/wxgtk-2.*
Then do a 'pacman -Sy wxgtk' and choose to upgrade if need be. If all goes well you will no longer get the warnings from pacman, and both the binary and cvs packages will install and run fine.

  • [SOLVED] ldconfig: /usr/lib/libOpenCL.so.1 is not a symbolic link

Hi. I use 64 bits arch with gnome and the ATI driver 13.6 beta installed from the AMD binary and I usually execute steam. Everything seem fine, but recently I receive a message when I update any package with pacman
ldconfig: /usr/lib/libOpenCL.so.1 is not a symbolic link
However the update seems correct, only that warning message. I've checked the propietary of the file
    pacman -Qo /usr/lib/libOpenCL.so.1
/usr/lib/libOpenCL.so.1 is owned by libcl 1.1-3

On my system, that file IS a symbolic link:
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 23 Aws 14 2012 /usr/lib/libOpenCL.so -> /usr/lib/libOpenCL.so.1*
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 27 Aws 14 2012 /usr/lib/libOpenCL.so.1 -> /usr/lib/libOpenCL.so.1.0.0*
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 21K Aws 14 2012 /usr/lib/libOpenCL.so.1.0.0*
[Aside: I know that the "Aws" isn't English but I hardly ever pass LC_ALL=C myself just because so little is translated into my interface language . Dates is almost it. ]
I would try reinstalling libcl and take it from there.
