SOLVED---WARNING!!! Latest updates break Konqueror!

After my daily update on my AMD64 box, I get this message (translated) when I try to access the net with Konqueror:
An error happened loading "http://url of the page"
Could not start following process:Not able to make io-slave.
Klauncher answered: "Error loading kio-http"
How do I repair this?
Added comment:(00.42 h local time): It is repeatable:my second AMD64 machine does identically the same thing8

Do you use testing?
The heimdal version in testing does break kio_http, but by creating symlinks you can get around that.
Do a ldd /opt/kde/libs/kde3/kio_http.so | grep not and see which libraries are missing. Search for these libraries in /usr/lib (e.g. libgssapi.so) and create a symlink from e.g. libgssapi.so.2 to libgssapi.so.1 . This is only a dirty workaround, but it works until the related kde packages are rebuilt against the new heimdal version.

Now my icons in GDM and GNOME are missing. The icons in the top panel are not monochrome anymore and the Shell Overview and Web are missing all their icons. Plus they are crashing repeadedly.
Is it possible that this has something to do with the old kernel? Or is this another problem? What does the line

Icu was upgraded from 0.50 to 0.51.1 , you probably have packages (could be from AUR) that are build against the old icu version and need to be rebuild.

WARNING: Camera update breaks the Encore

You may want to skip the current camera update released via Windows Update, at least with the Encore 1. If you've already installed it, go into Device Manager and roll back the driver. Your camera will suddenly work again. You may want to hide the update in Windows Update because if you tick it again by mistake your camera will fall over again.

Latest Update breaks brightness level in iMac

Everytime I restart, the brightness level jacks up to 100% The effective brightness I have calibrated for is on 0% This started happening directly after the latest 10.5 update. Its annoying to reset it everytime I restart.
I have a 17" 2006 imac. The first intel one.

I would try both a PRAM and an SMC reset.
PRAM
1. Shut down the computer.
2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
3. Turn on the computer.
4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
6. Release the keys.>
SMC
1. From the Apple menu, choose Shut Down (or if the computer is not responding, hold the power button until it turns off).
2. Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord and any display cables.
3. Wait at least 15 seconds.
4. Plug the power cord back in, making sure the power button is not being pressed at the time. Then reconnect your keyboard and mouse to the computer.
5. Press the power button on the back to start up your computer.

[SOLVED - kinda] Xorg updates break mouse acceleration

I have a razer diamondback mouse, which until recently I'd been using xset m 1 0 to rein in. Without this, the mouse has frighteningly high acceleration and is impossible to control.
After the updates it refuses to move unless I send it halfway across the pad first. Running "xset m 1 1" suddenly makes the mouse impossible to control again. There doesn't appear to be any middle ground.

Well, it looks like there's a new, undocumented addition to xorg.conf, in the form of Option "Sensitivity" in your mouse section, a la:

Where Sensitivity can be anywhere from 0 to 1.0. In addition, you must run
xset m 1 1
(disable acceleration and also have a threshold) to have the mouse work smoothly again. As it is, a Sensitivity of around 0.4 or 0.5 roughly emulates what I had before.

[SOLVED] qemu-kvm update breaks libvirt

I just recently upgraded to qemu-kvm 0.12.1.2-1
Once I did this I was unable to start my VM's I received:
error: Failed to start domain dns
error: internal error unable to start guest: char device redirected to /dev/pts/1
qemu: '' invalid format
I just rolled back the package using the packages in
/var/cache/pacman/pkg by pacman -U qemu-kvm-0.11.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz

After deciding to upgrade to the new one and actually figure out what the problem was I discovered it was a simple fix.
To fix the problem I was getting I went into virt-manager and all you have to do is remove the machines hard drive and then reattach it.
I was then able to boot the VM's.

[SOLVED] Amarok not starting up after the latest update

Hi there,
as the title says, my Amarok isn't starting anymore since I did the latest update (from today to 2.4.1-3).
I see my bouncing logo animation on the cursor for a few seconds and after that it just disappears and nothing happens.
Did this happen to anyone else? Any hints what I can do now to fix this?

The latest Java update breaks some vital applications

The latest Java update breaks some vital applications. I have reverted back to 7u45. But now, every time a java applet is used, the "later", "block", "update" window appears and stops the applet from loading. I must have this older release. Oracle does not throughly test their updates. Note: the apps the update breaks are actually Oracle apps.
I have checked the "do not ask again until next relesse" box every single time. Worthless.
Is there a way to stop Java version checks? I even have the box deselected for check for updates; ignored by OS X. I WANT CONTROL! Stop checking!

We are facing the same issue. We suggested all out customers not to install the updates Java 7u65 or 8u11 until there is a workaround or fix.
The wrong look & feel is causing the following problems:
- Either icons or text can be display on a button. Currently the majority of buttons are displaying an icon. Therefore the workaround is to set the text at least.
- Scroll-bars are displayed within all cells of a table column. The circumstances are not clear when these scroll-bars are displayed.

Like the subject says, wine doesn't start utorrent anymore after latest update. The output I get is the following:

and then it hangs. If I change my Windows version in winecfg to for instance Windows XP, the first 2 errors disappear, but wine still hangs:

Enabling DRI and disabling DRI doesn't help. Updating to the latest wine 0.9.30-1 also didn't change anything.

Problem is solved. Had to delete the .wine folder. Lost all utorrent settings, but it works again now.

Missing MSVCR80.dll after the latest update solved.

To all of you who lost iTune after the latest update, obviously there were some kind of bugs at their end. Very annoying. But here is the fix you can do it yourself. And don't worry your iTune is intact inluding your library.
First, you have to uninstall every Apple product via Control Panel, Program Uninstall. In that list you should have 4 Apple items; Apple Applicaiton Support, Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Software Update, and iTunes. Uninstall them one by one.
Imoortant ot re-boot the system.
Then go to www.apple.com/itunes/, and look for the download button. That's it. As you go through the steps, be sure to instll as amdministrator.
You should get back your old iTunes with nothing missing.

Apple have a recommended order for uninstalling the components, and there are some other tips below...
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

Latest iTunes update breaks iTunes Radio

Has anyone tried to use Featured Stations on iTunes Radio? The latest update has broken this on both my iMac and MacBook Pro. Both running news Yosemite and iTunes. I'm able to play NPR Radio, but all else has failed. I've logged out, and logged back in. Restarted and still no iTunes Radio on Featured Stations. I even created my stations and still no sound.

It's working now. Must have been an issue with Apple regarding iTunes radio.

Did latest MAC OS update break connectaddin...?

Mac Snow leopard - since the latest update this week, connectaddin is not working.
Conference room is fine if I delete it - but if it installs (or if I install the newest version) then the room just locks up on on the little waiting to load windows and never finishes connecting.
Worked fine before this week.
Any one else see this?

Hi, I am using Vista Ultima x64 and the same behavior is observable. The only changes to the system were update(s) in the last seven days. Yesterday I then noticed that loading the Connect Add-In PlugIn messes up the meeting room. All I can see is a little white window. Deinstalling the Connect Add-In allows at least to login to a meeting and participate as attendee. As soon as I try to share or broadcast content and therefore download and install the Add-In again, the problem shows up anew.
Update:
This morning (TUE 17th Nov.09) I could download the Add-In and it worked again (although I had to hit reload once). However, if I do the Audio Settings Wizzard, it complains that a newer Add-In should be used. If you say yes, it downloads again the broken version and the problems start anew, if you say no, everything works so far. It is a guess but it looks like Adobe reverted the Add-in back to the previous version for the main application, but the Audio Wizzards seems to 'see' still the newer (faulty) plugin.

[SOLVED] GTK applications failing after latest update

Several GTK applications are failing after the latest updates.
So far, I have found Bleachbit and Gtkpacman are crashing, but there may be more.
They all give the same error messages (obviously, the application name/line number in the first line varies):

pacman -Q pygtk gtk2 give different versions, as I haven't yet been able to fix my previous problem with Firefox 3.6 (machine in constant use), so I guess that's the problem.

T60 WLAN COMPLETELY GONE after installing latest Update Intel Wireless WiFi Link for Windows XP

I just reinstalled a T60 from scratch TWICE to the point of updating - Intel Wireless Wifi Link for Windows XP -
Just after that very latest Update (3.1.1.1 or so?) there is no WLAN possible and I had to find out, that a system restore is impossible either! (Simply does not work and asks me to get another point and try again)
I have a full backup done by acronis 2010 so that does not bother me so very much.
The point is that I like to WARN everybody to install that Update to their T60 e.g. 2008YWJ !!!
(contains 3945AGB WLAN Module!)
After Updating U HAVE NO CHANCE TO REPAIR IT! U get always the problem signature

szModVer : 13.0.0.2 offset: 000d4912
and the System wants to report that stuff to MicroSoft...again and again...every time u
start AccessConnections.
U can DEinstall AccessConnections and Intel Wireless Wifi Link for XP completely, reboot
and REinstall it....just 2 get the same messages and NO WLAN anymore.
I could not get out of this Driver Installation Hell until I did a complete Recovery Install and
I got back to Hell when System Update REinstalled Intel Wireless WiFi Link for XP
automagically...;-(((
And again NO CHANCE to roll back, No chance to get rid of that annoying bug. This time I have an ACRONIS-Image so I can spare some time....

Why is XP System Restore not working on an T60 to roll back to Point b4 installation of this Update???
(I could not use that Thinkvantage-System Recovery because it did not even get all its updates by the
time the system went in limbo during install! What i defintely can say is that it breaks at exactely
same point when Intel Wifi Updates is installed...
I do my Acronis Restore now and try 2 avoid this Update....;-(
if anybody KNOWS how to get that system 2 an earlier point of an install orgy i whould be thankful to get that information...
I am keeping alive 12 Thinkpads here R40 R50 T42 T43 T60 T61p T400 T500 and NEVER

gal9000, welcome to the forum,
have you tried running windows system restore from safe mode? It usually works then because some anti-virus softwares will prevent it from running successfully from "normal" windows.

WARNING - LATEST SLES 11 PATCHES CAUSING HIGH CPU USAGE
This may only apply to my site, but I wanted to let others know right away. I just applied the latest SLES11 SP3 patches this AM to our Primary server. Upon reboot I am seeing java processes associated with ZCM services using up to 100% CPU time across multiple processors. Me server is crashing every 10 minutes or so. I have opened an SR.
Be careful. I will report back.
