[Solved] Where is ncurses-dev? (missing .h file)

Hi all,
I'm trying to compile some code that uses ncursesw, however I don't have the <ncursesw/ncurses.h> file on my system. I'm new to Arch but I thought these files were normally provided by -dev packages, so ncurses-dev in this case. But I can't find this anywhere (not even in AUR) - what am I missing? There are other people here who are compiling programs using ncurses, what did you do to install the header files?

Ah, that did it! I misread the autoconf macro - I thought it defined a value if you had ncursesw.h present, but rather it defines a value if you have ncursesw present, and another value if you should use <ncursesw/ncurses.h> over just <ncurses.h>

Hmm...I'm thinking that nss-mdns is only on the local network, whereas most people are chatting all the way around the internet. This is one feature that might be optional as far as the actual empathy package goes.

Missing PDFMaker Files 7.0

I have Windows XP, Office 2007 and Acrobat 7.0 Standard. I am attempting to create a pdf by combining multiple files. Each time I attempt to assemble my document the following message appears: "Missing PDFMaker files. Do you want to run the installer in repair mode? Yes or No."
After selecting "Yes" it appears that the missing files load and my machine reboots. When I attempt to combine the files again, the same message appears so I am stuck in this loop.
I am able to combine the files using docu printier but I would like to solve this problem of the missing PDFMaker files.
Please provide assistance.

Bill's right - Acrobat 7 is not compatible with Word 2007.
You either have to move to a later version of Acrobat or you could try using the Microsoft Office Add-in which enables saving a Word doc as PDF or XPS. It's at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=4D951911-3E7E-4AE6-B059-A2E79ED8 7041&displaylang=en and is extremely quick but it doesn't have very many customisation options.
We tried the Office add-in for a while but it wasn't flexible enough for our purposes so we moved to Acrobat 8.

[SOLVED] Where do header files come from?

I'm a little confused about which files get included when compiling a program in C.
I made a file named "screen.h". It's pretty obvious that the compiler is trying to use a different "screen.h" than mine, especially since it compiles fine when I rename my file to "screenblarg.h".
I am making a video game using the Allegro Game Library. Here is the command I use to compile the source files:
gcc -O2 -Wall -Wextra -ansi -pedantic -c filename.c -I/usr/include
I "properly" include the necessary files, using quotes and angled brackets, for example, in "main.c":
#include <allegro.h> /* System header */
#include "screen.h" /* Local header */
I'm especially confused because there is no "screen.h" in "/usr/include".
Does this behavior make sense to anyone? Please let me know if it would help to see the actual code. Thank you!

Thank you for your response. I don't see anything in the output of "gcc -v" that would say where it is searching for header files. (it's from the standard Arch Linux package, by the way)

As for including "-I/usr/include", I understand that it's not necessary. It comes from the Allegro command "allegro-config --cflags" in my makefile, which I added to make compiling my program a bit more portable.
There are two other files on my computer named "screen.h". I tried renaming them, but my program would still not compile.
A search on the Internet doesn't say anything about a common "screen.h" file in Linux.
Does the compiler "see" header files (such as a "screen.h") in the libraries that are in "/usr/lib"? Or something? O_o

Missing render file/project will not render

I'm new to using FCE - just got my iMac with FCE pre-installed a few weeks ago - and have run into a big problem with current project. When I open the program, it tells me one render file is offline and I can reconnect or continue. I have no idea where the file could possibly have gone, so I select 'continue'. But now the project will not render. I have four sequences open in the project file, and have tried everything - locking and unlocking tracks, selecting various combinations of render both, render all, render selection, rendering only audio or video, etc. All the appropriate render selections are checked in every option. But still, the project won't render any of the sequences; the render box comes up for a split second and goes away faster than the eye can follow. I've tried setting the scratch disk; that didn't help. I tried saving the project, closing and opening the project, etc. Nothing helps. It just won't render. Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this problem?

When I say it won't render, I literally mean nothing happens when I hit the render command. I see the red timeline render bars. However, I see them only when I go to export the video as something else - a mov, dv stream, etc. In the project while working, there's nothing indicating render is required.
To try and solve this problem of the missing audio clip, I opened a new project and imported the .mov file I was working with initially, which theoretically should have all its parts intact. I made the necessary modifications to the file (essentially starting all over) and then attempted to render. It still won't render. Nothing happens at all when I click any of the render options, even after I've made modifications to the video that would clearly require render - changing the aspect ratio and applying a widescreen video filter. So the program should recognize the changes and render, but nothing happens, whether I choose render from the menu or hit the keyboard shortcut.
I'm a little hesitant to try scrapping the preferences as suggested above, but I am totally perplexed.

Missing patch files when applying patch

I have been trying to apply the Oracle 8.1.5 patch and I have
followed the instructions given. On running the script
(sh linux815patch.sh)it goes through the motions of installing
the patch for about a second and then stops with a message
"missing patch files". I have dowloaded the patch from two
different locations twice and it still gives the same problem.
Has anyone come across this and how was the problem solved ?

Missing aif files

hi there,
after i record a simple track and save etc. when i go back to garage band, load the track, it says Audio file “Natural#04.aif” not found". and hten my track which i have recorded with that .aif file is no longer in existence...

I started experiencing problems with lost/missing audio files after upgrading from GarageBand '09 to GB '11. Before I've had a whole bunch of other problems, some where solved with help from Apple advisers, some not. When I bought my MacBook Pro in October 2009, I also bought Apple Care. I didn't want to, but the guy in the store told me that I might regret it if I don't. Good thing I followed his advise. It's expensive, true, but if I didn't have it,...well, I'm glad that I do. Apple Care allows me to call Apple Support and have trouble shooting sessions with Apple advisers. Some of the sessions depending on how difficult/serious problem was were up to two (2) hours long! And let me just tell you, that so far there have been problems with basically all applications at one time or another. I also had quite a few remote sessions with senior advisers. I like those the best, I can see their cursor on my screen leading me to places where I should go, and do whatever they tell me to do over the phone at the same time. Some GB problems were solved that way, some not. Regarding lost audio files I'm currently working with third senior adviser. The previous two who were working with me for the last few months basically run out of options and stopped getting back to me. All three said the same thing though, that's the first time they saw thing like that (audio files getting lost). The current adviser passed the whole issue to Apple engineers over a couple weeks ago. So far I've got an e-mail from him with an info that engineers keep working on it, and meanwhile I should use the only solution that I have in my disposal, the solution which might work for you guys or might not. First of all you need to have backups, you need to set up your time machines, so when something bad happens to your project, you can "pull it" back from time machine. Once there, it'll stay there. I made a mistake with postponing setting time machine, and it costed me loss of a few projects. Getting back to issues with my GB, I went to the store where I bought my computer and asked the guy there to transfer one of my projects to their GB on one of their computers. To our surprise, the audio files which were getting lost on my computer, didn't get lost on their GB, but instead completely different audio files went missing! Go Figure. OK, here is the issue with my GB. First of all, this problem only affects projects created in older version of GB. Here is what happens: I open the project created in GB '08 or in GB '09 in the GB '11 version. If you updated your application to iLife '11 all the projects open in GB '11. At first all the audio files are there. Now I want to close the project, so I go to "File", then click on "save" in scroll down menu. Now comes the tricky part. Even without making any changes whatsoever, after clicking on "save" a box with a message appears on the screen, more or less saying that since the project was created with older version of GB, I have to decide how do I want to save it. I can either click on blue active button "save" which will save the project in GB '11, or I can click on "save a copy", or click "cancel", go back to "File", and click on "Save As". In case of "save a copy" and "save as" you'll have to change the original title, you can add whatever, or remove whatever you want from the original title. The point is, the title has to be different. If you named your project Black Night, so now you can go for Black Night 2 or something like that. So, if I click on that active blue save button and save the project to GB '11, then close it (it doesn't matter if I save it or not to iLife), or quit GB altogether, and then reopen the project again, audio files go missing. Having backup helps a lot, because I can get the project from time machine as many times as needed. So when I reopen the project and audio file is missing, I trash it, I go to time machine, restore it from there, and this time I save it either as "save as" with different title, or "save a copy" also with a different title. In some cases "save a copy" doesn't help. The audio file still goes missing. So the best option for me in that case is to save the project as "save as". But if you don't have time machine, and you lost an audio file, and perhaps you don't even remember what it was,so you can't reproduce it, then there is to my knowledge still one option left. You can buy special software for recovering lost files. These softwares are expensive, so you're better off spending money for whatever is needed to set up your time machine. I hope that this what I wrote here might help a bit for those who have similar issues. I also understand the feeling of getting frustrated with GB, and even thought of abandoning it altogether perhaps for some other software. I myself many a times due to multitude of technical problems with GB and other applications exercised the thought of getting rid of my computer. But that would mean substantial financial loss, so I'll keep it till Apple Care runs out then I'll see. Fact is, that upgrade to iLife '11 helped to solve many issues from the past. Up and coming software updates addressed many of them. As far as GB goes, despite all the issues that I've been having with it, In my opinion it's a very good sounding software. I can't deny having lots of fun with it, and I keep discovering new possibilities all the time. Here is a link to sites where you guys can check out how I'm doing with GB and iLive (to make videos). DW CS5 Missing Related Files Problem

Hello
Hoping somebody may be able to help me with a missing related files problem in CS5. I've tried Adobe phone support but they couldn't solve the problem.
*Some* of my sites (but not all) are not showing all the files related to that page. My pages are typically in .asp vb server model and contain .asp virtual includes (header, nav etc) plus .js and .css linked files
However DW is only showing the .asp includes as related files and not css or js ones. In design view the CSS is displaying correctly, and all styles appear in the CSS inspector but not showing as a related file in the bar. In CS4 it works fine.
I've tried deleting the site and recreating it, copying the files to a new folder and setting up a fresh site, creating a new folder and downloading all files from the remote server but no joy. I've also tried refreshing related files. if I click on the filter in the bar it only shows the asp includes and nothing else.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated, this is a great feature when it works

UPDATE:
Managed to solve this problem, this is a new issue to DW CS5, previous versions do not seem to exhibit this problem
It occurs when you use site root rather than document relative paths for js/css etc files AND don't have the remote site url (web url) specified in the site setup | local info dialog, or do not have it fully qualified with http://
ie. ../js/file.js works fine without a remote web url but /js/file.js does not show the related file in the bar unless a remote url is defined.
Hope that helps anyone else that encounters the same issue!

I am converting an InDesign document to ePub and mobi. The document also exists as a PDF file (which, as you may know, can not be converted effectively to ePub).
The InDesign file has been supplied to me with missing Illustrator .ai links for charts and graphs. There are lo-res images in their places.
I could manually import individual charts from the PDF file into Illustrator, but there are dozens of them and relinking will be a huge job as it is. Any suggestions on how to transform all charts and graphs in the PDF file to .ai files OR import them directly into InDesign?

1. how do you know the links are missing?
The "missing, click to relink" question mark appears in all InDesign charts and graphs. The ID links panel is all question marks.
2. how do you know the there are lo-res images in their place? (are they named as such? is your page display set to 'highest')
When I create an epub or mobi file, the graphics are blurred, placeholders for the intended artwork. I can anchor them, but they look pretty poor.
3. can you contact whoever made the source files to acquire the missing files?
I have tried (and tried and tried). Alas, this is a pro bono job for a UN development agency in Beijing, and no one can figure out where the files are (even though I found the a complete directory path to where they should be on SOMEONE'S computer).
4. you can PLACE the PDF pages diectly into indesign (crop to the charts) and then delete the lo-res files after using them as a reference for placement and size--yes a lot of work, but if you got to, then you got to.
At this point, if I can't come up with an alternative, I think it will be easiest to select each chart and graph from the PDF, then "edit using AI...", save them individually as AI files and relink them. I was praying for a more simple solution (other than finding those missing .ai files).
There is an extension, but it's $100 and I'll probably never need to use it again. I'd spring for it if I was sure it would save me much time.

Where are the many missing features in Numbers found?

The more that I use Numbers the less likely that I will ever go through the motions of trying to get Numbers to do enough of the things that have to be done in order for my income tax program to work. Like in another post I have some of my smaller tax forms to say that they are too big to be imported. There seems to be too many missing features to do a useful job.
This leaves trying to use Numbers to handle new small, small, small spreadsheets. At the present times I have little problem setting up a format for a cell providing the formatting is available. In Excel the easiest way to copy a format to a new cell is to use format painter. Many time copy/paste will work. But copy/paste will move the formula also. I have not been able to find a way to do this with Numbers.
So far the sliders feature is the one feature that interests me enough to try to use Numbers in the real work handling portion of my business. Many things I want to do either I can't find out how to do them or there are too many added keystrokes needed compared to Excel to make me want to do a spreadsheet in Numbers.
Since the majority of my spreadsheets do not use a header row or header column I have to get that turned off. Tax sheets have a lot of blank spaces to start things out & normally will be different than the next sheet.
I used a lot of cell/range names as well as individual cells. I use 450+ cell names in my main Form 1040, A,B,D,NE,IA page. That still leaves me needing to know the row/column designation most of the time. I cannot find where that information is displayed in Numbers.
I keep looking, but generally do not find the needed feature that I need. Many like the cell designation is so basic. Being able to use the arrow keys to move to a cell for inclusion in a formula is another one that I am unable to do. Using the help files do not come close to answering any question that I have with Numbers. Where is the Numbers, "Missing Manual?" I need what I don't have & may not be made at the current time.
Like Pages 1.0, Numbers 1.0 doesn’t seem ready for prime time use. There are too many missing features be a very complete spreadsheet. Some I probably can’t find, some probably are not there.
I need help.

Here is a solution that worked for a user who also had a problem with iTunes Software Support. This thread was for a win32 version, but Maybe this is the problem for both of you?:
IT appears that AppleApplicationSupport.msi, is not opening and installing properly.
Download and SAVE iTunesSetup.exe, where you can find it.
Then:
1. Download and install WinRAR.
2. Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe icon and choose "Open with WinRAR".
3. Once the EXE is opened in WinRAR, double-click AppleApplicationSupport.msi and when the installer window is open choose "Repair".
4. Done! You can now run iTunes normally.

Pro Tools Missing audio file message syndrom exists on Logic

I come from Pro tools and i am a bit traumatised by this fkn Pro Tools missing audio file message for those who know what i mean..
Is it something possible and frequent in logic when we work on a daily basis ?

No, you simply copy the entire project folder to a flash drive and bring it home. If you have included the audio files in the project folder, which logic does by default, logic will find them just fine at home. If it asks where they are, you just hit "search" and if they're there, If you've copied the song file to your drive without including the audio files ("pilot error") then the program can't find them. Often, I get protools sessions from clients with missing files. Sometimes the entire audio files folder is missing, but more often the missing files are out-takes that are no longer part of the arrangement, and were still in the audio file list of the song, but were not included in the folder when the project was copied and brought to me. How or why, I cannot tell you.

Error report form iTunes Store: Missing Nib File

After having uploaded the .zip-file to the iTunes Store (update of an existing app), I got the following error-report from the iTunes store: Missing Nib File - The referenced nib file "MainWindow.nib" was not found in the application bundle. Is it possible that this error occurred while creating the app in the Adobe app builder or where do I have to look for this error? The first uploading of the original app worked without an error. What do you recommend me?

Frankly, this is outrageous. This issue has been open for close to 5 months. Rather than simply updating the SP4 incremental update with the correct files, SAP's brilliant response is to tell us that the file is STILL broken, but ***** you, whenever we fix it it will be the full build only. Well, thanks! That makes it so much easier. Rather than looking at Crystal Reports 2008, maybe it's time to suck it up and look elsewhere,

   Yes, I am downloading it from a Win2003 machine. The browser is IE7.
   I can even see what's inside the m293.cab, and it is not the file mentioned on the error message...
   This is the m293.cab content (one file):

   The file doesn't seem to be corrupted, it just doesnt have what was expected by the installer software.
   I tried downloading it again and had the same result... These are the installation files that I've already tried with the same result:

Missing theme files

I'm opening a previously saved document and I'm getting this huge list of missing theme files. Any ideas how to fix?

It was installed from the App Store. I worked with tech support on the phone (2.5 hours) and we did not solve the problem, however, I encountered severe Keynote problems in the past and it was font related.
One of the first things I did when the problem started was to go to FontBook, select all the fonts and run a Validation. Then, the fonts with marked with an X, I removed. Unfortunately the problem continued and it seemed to be getting worse. Now, I couldn't save files without a warning coming up and I was losing the photos that were placed in the doc.
The tech had me do a safe boot, open a new user, etc. The new user worked but who wants to switch back an forth between users just to do a Keynote preso??
As is often the case when you are at your wits end, you go back over things you have already done. I went back to FontBook and ran the validation again. Much to my surprise all the X fonts were still there. Hmmm. So, I went in and manually deleted these varmints.
Problem solved. Now the corrupt files are still corrupt but I was able to create a new presentation, clean from errors.
