[Solved]With systemd on install media, systemctl works during install?

When I upgrading my current machine from sysvinit to systemd, in order to use systemctl to enable services, I first had to reboot the system.
With the new install media for October using systemd, is it possible to enable these services using systemctl during the install (ie, so I could add 'systemctl enable foo.service' to install scripts)?
I do realize that I could just manually symlink, but it feel much nicer to use systemctl.

I do exactly that in my install script...
systemctl enable cronie.service
systemctl enable [email protected]
systemctl enable UEFIstubMOVE.path
systemctl start UEFIstubMOVE.path
...but see below for the message I get when I try to start one of the services...
ln -s '/usr/lib/systemd/system/cronie.service' '/etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/cronie.service'
ln -s '/usr/lib/systemd/system/[email protected]' '/etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/[email protected]'
ln -s '/etc/systemd/system/UEFIstubMOVE.path' '/etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/UEFIstubMOVE.path'

  • [SOLVED] broadcom-wl works during install, but not after.

I have this macbook air which I'm beating into submission, and it has a broadcom wifi chip. I followed the instructions here for the installation and it worked perfectly. After booting into my newly installed system I do the same, but when I do 'modprobe wl' it fails with:
    # modprobe --verbose wl
    insmod /lib/modules/3.14.5-1-ARCH/extramodules/wl.ko.gz
modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'wl': Invalid argument
I checked with 'lsmod' and none of the blacklisted modules are loaded. I have no idea how to proceed but it should work since it worked during installation. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!
EDIT: As  user Namarrgon on irc pointed out, I needed to rebuild the broadcom-wl package. The reason it worked in the live usb and not in the installed system is probably because the installed system had a later kernel than the one on the live usb.

At least for rt2870sta, it's a retarded bug in Linux that was introduced in 2.6.31 and is still not fixed. It works in the live environment because it has an older kernel.
    Kernel 2.6.31 module conflicts
The 2.6.31 kernel caused the rt2870 driver to conflict with other wireless modules. The fix in this thread says that you need to blacklist the rt2800usb rt2x00usb and rt2x00lib modules by modifying the MODULES array in /etc/rc.conf
    MODULES=( ... !rt2800usb !rt2x00usb !rt2x00lib ... )

  • Problem with AE CS5 and laptop screen resolution during install..

    Hello everyone,
I bought AE and I am very disappointed.  When I went to install the  application, I got the following errors and it stopped installing.
    Exit Code: 7
    -------------------------------------- Summary  --------------------------------------

    WARNING: Display requirements not met for  {DA1B174B-4297-467C-9EF8-0AB8D4D5171E}
WARNING: Payload cannot be installed due to dependent operation  failure
My max screen resolution is 1366x768 and the requirement is  1280x1024.
I don't plan on buying a screen that large.  Is there a fix for  this? perhaps editing the registry? I won't mind the small work area.  I  can manage.  does AE CS4 have this resolution requirement?  I have an  opengl capable graphics card in my laptop so I don't think that is an  issue here. any help would be much appreciated. thanks

ok I think I was able to bypass the " Display requirements not met for {DA1B174B-4297-467C-9EF8-0AB8D4D5171E}" error during install. I hooked up an exteral monitor with the required resolution and I did not see that error message again.  However, I am still getting the following error messages
    <code>
WARNING: Payload cannot be installed due to dependent operation failure
    </code>
could it be that my graphics card does not support opengl? how can I make sure it supports opengl 2.0?
the graphics card that I have is an integraded intel media graphics accelerator.  I am quite sure it would support opengl2.0. any thoughts? thanks
My brother has a screen resolution of 1240x780 and yet he was able to install AE CS5 without any errors at all.  He has an ATI mobility Raedon Graphics card.  whats up with that? also, he cannot hear any sound from avi videos in AE.  He has tried everything even raising the decibals level in the track.

I then tried downloading Media Go straight from the Sony Website and it always comes up saying "a programme is already install/uninstalling, please finish this before trying to install". Theres no programme already trying to install/uninstall so i dont understand whats wrong.
Ive also uninstalled Phone Companion and tried installing Media Go then, but still the same problem. And ive tried running as an "Administator" and in "Compaitbility Mode".
    Could please someone help me
    Thanks

Just to clarify, have you tried rebooting the PC then installing MediaGo separately?

  • Wireless Works during install.... Does not work after install.

    Hiya!
I just finally finished semi-installing from live.  it's exciting.  I'm stuck at cli trying to get wireless to work.
it's really weird.  First-  I only have wireless (it's from my downstairs neighbors).  I used it DURING the install process- downloaded all of the packages, etc etc.
But when I start up my computer, I get a [FAIL] by network (it does not start up).   However, if i # ifconfig wlan0 up, the wireless turns on.
    iwconfig does not work
and I cannot scan for networks...
During install, I was able to see the names of every network.
There isn't any sort of password for the router I would like to connect to (and connected to before); it's just a linksys.
My wireless card is intel 5300 and I'm almost certain I installed the 5000 driver package.
    Thoughts?
Perhaps I should go to sleeeeeeep..

  • Premiere Elements 11 "installing Shared Technologies" error during install

How do I fix the "The installation process has encountered an error whil installing Shared Technologies.  Please restart your system and try again." error while installing Premiere Elements 11?  Photoshop Elements 11 installed fine, but I keep receiving this error while trying to install Premier Elements 11.
    I have already tried:
    Install from CD
    Install from C: drive root
Install from Adobe website trial version
Install from CD, after clean boot
In each case it installs at the same place with the same error.
From searching these forums and doing a web search it seems like a common problem with no clear solution.

    FFWLKin
I do not know if what I am about to report will help or confuse the Premiere Elements users further on this Shared Technology error encountered during Premiere Elements installation, but here is hoping that something in the following experience might be of help to someone....
I entered your thread with the Shared Technology error (targeting Elements Organizer/Data 7) when trying to install Photoshop Elements 10 and Premiere Elements 10 on a new Windows 8 64 bit computer. Unlike the others I had no problems installing Premiere Elements 11 and Photoshop Elements 11 from the Adobe installation disc a week earlier on this brand new Windows 8 64 bit computer. Short of re-formatting the hard drive, I did everything plus with no luck in getting versions 10 installed on this Windows 8 64 bit computer. So, I decided to focus on working with the already installed version 11 programs.
I headed for Premiere Elements 11 to create a DVD-VIDEO format on DVD disc and to my horror found that the program's burn dialog had no burner(s) in the burner location (either the build in one or an external burner (USB). But, Premiere Elements 11 burn to folder did work. On the other hand, I found that Photoshop Elements 11 Organizer File Menu feature to burn (datadisc) to CD or DVD did recognize these burners and that burn to feature worked. I went through the typical drill for those in this type of situation and nothing remedied the problem. So, I decided to go for the deactivate/uninstall/reinstall route. Well,  now Premiere Elements 11 reinstallation ran into the same fate as Premiere Elements 10, that is, it ran into the Shared Technologies error related to installation of the Elements Organizer and Premiere Elements 11 would not install after going through everything decribed in this thread, excluding re-formatting the hard drive.
    1. Deactivated/uninstalled Photoshop Elements 11 and Premiere Elements 11.
    2. Apply the cclearer: cleaner and registry cleaner. And, then went into the Registry and deleted all related to Photoshop Elements 10/Premiere Elements 10 as well as Photoshop Elements 11/Premiere Elements 11.
    3. Disabled firewall, antivirus, spyware...
    4. Tried to reinstall Premiere Elements 11, using the installation files (setup.exe in 64 bit folder) copied to hard drive. No go. Same Shared Technology error.
    5. Started deleting programs that I had installed after the initial successful installs of Photoshop Elements 11 and Premiere Elements 11 (these programs included iTunes, VLC player, and ImgBurn). Still no go for the Premiee Elements 11 install, and same Shared Technologies error.
FINALLY, Photoshop Elements 11 and Premiere Elements 11 got successfully installed on this Windows 8 64 bit computer according to the following scenario (iTunes, VLC player, and ImgBurn still removed from system...firewall, antivirus, spyware protection re-enabled)
    1. Attached a USB burner to computer via one of its USB 3.0 ports.
    2. Inserted the Adobe installation disc into the burner tray of this burner in order to install the program(s) via the installation disc.
    3. Selected install for Photoshop Elements 11. It went to completion without problem.
    4. Selected install for Premiere Elements 11. It went to completion without problem. And, now the burn dialog/burner location did recognize the computer's built in burner and my USB external burner.
None of the above may have had anything to do with what finally triggerd the version 11 installation processes to go to completion. But, I add this to the mix of how Photoshop Elements 11/Premiere Elements 11 finally got installed in Windows 8 for the user.
And, I would offer this suggestion to those who have already installed Premiere Elements 11 on their Windows 8 64 bit. As soon as possible make sure you have burners listed in the burner location of the program's burn dialog.

  • [Solved] Overriding systemd Unit Files Isn't Working

I'm trying to set up some custom dependencies for various services, some of which are supported packages, some are custom packages I've developed. I am running into problems following the procedure described here - specifically, service files in /etc/systemd/system are ignored, and the only way to override them is to edit the files in /usr/lib/systemd/system. I have verified this issue on both a VPS instance and my desktop. Both systems were originally built well before systemd and have been converted to pure systemd systems. Does anyone else see these issues, or know of any reason this would be happening and/or how to resolve it?
Steps to reproduce. This example uses httpd and mysql, but I've tested it with several other services, always with the same results:
Enable the service unit and create a new override:
    systemctl enable httpd.service
    rm /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/httpd.service
    cp /usr/lib/systemd/system/httpd.service /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/httpd.service
Edit /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/httpd.service, adding a line 'Wants=mysqld.service' to the [Unit] section.
Make systemd changes effective, and verify them. The first command results in an error that says "Failed to issue method call: Invalid argument". The final command will show an empty list  ("Wants="), when it should list mysqld. Running systemd-delta also shows no override.
    systemctl reenable httpd
    systemctl daemon-reload
    systemctl show -p "Wants" httpd.service
Change the replacement unit file to .include the packaged unit file:
    cat > /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/httpd.service << __EOF
    .include /usr/lib/systemd/system/httpd.service
    [Unit]
    Wants=mysqld.service
    __EOF
Repeat step #3, with the same results
    Reenable the package's unit:
    rm /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/httpd.service
    systemctl enable httpd.service
Edit the original unit file in /usr/lib/systemd/system/httpd.service, adding the 'Wants=myslqd.service' to the Unit section
    Repeat step 3
Result is the correct and expected one this time ("Wants=myslqd.service")

It most likely has to do with the change to the new systemd package.
    https://mailman.archlinux.org/pipermail … 24231.html
If you do an 'ip link' and you see the interfaces other than lo, they will have a different interface name.
    This is a quick fix:
    ln -s /dev/null /etc/udev/rules.d/80-net-name-slot.rules
This will revert back to the old naming scheme ie: eth0, wlan0, etc
If this doesn't work, or it isn't the issue, you can just delete the created symlink.

  • [SOLVED] How to get Broadcom wireless to work (Arch install)?

I'm very newbie in network managment (and in Linux in general), and it's my first time installing Arch.
I came from Debian/Ubuntu. In Ubuntu 14.04 it was working already, and in Debian 7.8 I only had to install the package "brcmsmac" to get my wi-fi card to work.
But now I have no idea what I'm doing in Arch. I've already downloaded and installed the system using the auto DHCP connection, but after the chroot I got confused, now I'm stuck in configuring the network and wireless. I didn't even install a bootloader yet. (I'm using another computer to post this)
I followed https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beginners%27_guide and https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/broadcom_wireless, and Google'd about it but everything seems confusing.
I won't need anything special like a server, so I imagine the solution is very basic and newbie.
It's probably a very simple thing to do, like installing a package or loading something, and I don't want to mess up my system.
I heard about AUR but I don't know how to use it.

    Gusar wrote:
We need *a lot* more info than that. Could be something very simple, like the interface being up before starting wifi-menu (netctl doesn't like the interface being up, it'll only start correctly if the interface is down).
Or it could be something more. In which case, you'll need to start wpa_supplicant manually with debugging enabled:
    wpa_supplicant -i wlp18s0b1 -c <(wpa_passphrase MYSSID passphrase) -d
Once this says you're connected, open another terminal and start dhcpcd. Or, if wpa_supplicant doesn't manage to connect, post the *entire* output.
Edit: Ok, you posted more info as I was writing my post. Will look through that, maybe it contains something useful. If not, follow the instructions above.
Edit2: Nope, nothing about wireless in there, except that the driver loaded.
    It worked!!
I was looking into the logs and found an authentication failure...my password is very long so I made some mistakes while typing it.
So this is the solution all the way:
    SOLUTION:
    - No need to install or load any external drivers (all I used was already in the base installation)
    - DISABLE THE HIDDEN NETWORK OPTION IN THE ROUTER (thanks for the heads-up @Gusar)
    - run "# wifi-menu"
         or
           "# wpa_supplicant -i [interface] -c <(wpa_passphrase MYSSID passphrase) -d"
    - run "# dhcpcd [interface]"
    - Good to go!!
I'm sorry for the trouble guys, and like I imagined, it was really easy and now I see my newbiness hahaha ;D
    Thanks.

  • Backspace key doesn't work during install

I'm installing Oracle 10.2.0 under Solaris 10 05/08 I'm using PuTTY 0.6.0 and Cygwin as my X server. In the Oracle install windows, my backspace and delete keys do not work. They work fine everywhere else.

    hi jnojr
what about making executing the following command in your shell before starting the runInstaller:
    stty erase <backspace key>
    stty delete <delete key>
    please read that document: http://www.acm.uiuc.edu/workshops/cool_unix/stty.html
    Read that also:
    http://www.linuxdocs.org/HOWTOs/Keyboard-and-Console-HOWTO-5.html
    check your settings
    #stty -a
What is the result of that command?
If the issue is only on x11 then try that:
Backspace key to generate a BackSpace:
    % xmodmap -e "keycode 22 = BackSpace"
Delete key to generate a Delete:
    % xmodmap -e "keycode 107 = Delete"
    this should fix your issue.

  • Leopard install disks being scratched during install

I have had a couple of very strange experiences trying to install Leopard (upgrading from 10.4.10).
I initially ordered (at a special price) and received a Leopard disk under the program whereby I had purchased my MacBook Pro within the month prior to Leopard being issued. When I attempted the install, it moved along fine and then midway hung and finally said the install had failed--disk unreadable. I was unable to start up at all. Couldn't even eject the disk. Finally got it out. Did a clean install of 10.4. Reinstalled all my many programs and was determined to NOT use Leopard.
A few days later I looked at the Leopard disk and found that rings had been "scratched" or "worn" into the data surface as though my DVD reader/player had malfunctioned and been in contact with the disk surface. I was horrified and quickly looked at all my other program disks just used for the reinstallations, afraid the DVD player had ruined them too. They were all ok. This lead me to believe that perhaps the Leopard disk was bad even before I put it in my computer. I called Apple. They issued a new disk with barely a comment.
Well, I finally got around to doing an install of Leopard with the new DVD. I looked carefully at the disk first. No apparent ring scratches. The install worked--really slowly--but it finished and works fine.
However, when I ejected the disk, I took a look and, sure enough...the data side had rings scratched (or worn) into it as though my DVD player had been in contact during the installation process! They were not there before the install. This has NEVER happened with any of the other MANY installation disks (or disks I've burned) on this computer but has now occured TWICE with the Leopard install disk!!!! WHAT'S GOING ON?????
Has anyone else seen this issue?

You might see what happens if you play a movie DVD. Use an old one. Be sure to play it through the switch point to the second layer.
You problem may be that optical drive is damaging dual-layer DVDs for some obscure reason.
Most of the other installation disks you used were probably single-layer disks.
It might also be that the Leopard DVD is a bit thicker than a standard DVD. Check the thickness.
If you do get another replacement DVD I suggest making a backup immediately.
You might also be able to copy the scratched DVD on another machine, but it has to had a DL burner. Sometimes copying a scratched DVD will work, since the copying process re-reads bad areas many times.

So I tried to update to the newest Itunes.  It locked up my computer part way thru the install.  Black screen, computer turned itself off.  Now anytime i try to do anything with Itunes it shuts my computer down.  I can start up fine in safe mode but when i try to uninstall from there, Itunes doesn't exist.  the other apple programs do, but no itunes.  when i try to uninstall the other programs in safe mode it tells me it can't because the windows installer isn't loaded.  I have system restored to over a month ago and itunes still doesn't show up in add/remove programs.  however, i can open itunes.  it just tells me a file didn't get installed and to uninstall and reinstall.  So, how do i remove a progam that doesn't think it exists and crashes my computer when i try to do anything related to it???  I'm out of ideas.  running windows vista.

I think my problem is fixed now.
For the fun of it, I reinstalled iTunes 9.2.1 today (using the exact same installer as I did yesterday), but this time I didn't uninstall iTunes first. As expected, iTunes recognized my iPhone (as I expected it to, until my next reboot).
A few minutes later, Software Update showed up and among the updates is "iPhone SDK Compatibility Update". The description indicates that installing this should fix an issue where iPhones and iPod touches aren't recognized by iTunes. Isn't that interesting?
I installed that update and most of the others waiting for me (including Java, Safari 5.0.1, and a few others - not 10.6.4 though, due to the issues with nVidia graphics cards). After the reboot, I started iTunes, and it saw my iPhone!
So, if you're having this same problem, I'd recommend tracking down this update and see if that does the trick for you. Hopefully it will.

  • Install flash player, but during install told to shut down safari

I am a new mac user, with at desk top using ios 10.9.  Been trying to download Adobe Flash player but during installation it quits and I get a dialogue box telling me to shut down Safari.  I don't have Safari open.......

I figured it out from another thread.  you need to "Quit" Safari before installing.  Yes, its nothing to worry about once you figure it out, but until that time its frustrating for people switching from PC to MAC.
