[SOLVED] xorg 1.9 Update Issue During Install

I am in the process of installing arch and have gotten to the point where I need to install the video drivers. I decided to use the proprietary ATI catalyst drivers. I downloaded the catalyst-utils tarball and it said my xorg was outdated. Went to reinstall xorg and it still is just using the 1.8 version. I checked my repo mirrors and I am using up to date ones. I -Syu'ed a few times and pacman still wants to install 1.8. I tried specifying with /extra/xorg, still no luck.
Whats going on here?

You are right. There are a lot more self-support tools available in Windows
than in MacOS. All you ever get on a Mac is "That didn't work: -304998173".
    Thanks for your insights.

The upgrade is not the 11.0.06, but that is an update. The upgrade is what
you can purchase if you had a previous version of Acrobat (at least AA 9).
The upgrade is substantially less in price than the full product. With the
upgrade you also have to have the SN of the previous product available for
the install. That is why I asked about the upgrade. Once you install AA XI,
then going to 11.0.06 is a free update (updates are changes in the
sub-version and are done quarterly or when there is a critical security
issue).  You can often fix installations by running a repair. In Windows
that is done either from Help>Repair or from the Control Panel. I do not
know the equivalent of the Control panel in the MAC. In any case I am glad
    you got it fixed.

It was a few selections below kernel.org......

  • IOS Update stalled during install...should I reboot?

Doing a required update to the software on my mac mini (so I could then update the ios on my iphone4s)  seems that the update stalled during the 'installing files' step.  Should I power off and try again?  Help...

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

  • Applying all update\patches during 'install software update' step

    Hi,
I have created software update group (around 10 updates\patches) and deploy it to 'unknown computers' collection. Ts 'Install software update' step scans through and only installs 2 updates out of 10. I have kept deploy property as 'required' while publishing
on 'unknown computers' and 'install software update' has 'All Software update' selected (other option is mandatory update'). I want to have all the 10 required update to be installed . any idea what should be the settings on 'deploy' prperty for software group
that install all the updates in the group during 'install software update' step? Any pointers will be appreciated
    Regards,

    Hi,
Yes , they need a reboot and reboot is happening automatically. I believe, once reboot is done, other patches should take over with installation. I don't see any information for another updates that are part of same software group. For these 2 succefully
installed updates log has below that indicates they reboot and finish.

  • Desktop update Froze during install

I just got my new Torch and was updating it to the newest softwear, and it has frozen during the install step. It has been stuck on this section for the past 4 hours. It says not to disconnect the device or interupt the process as it could make the device unusasble. What can I do ?!

Hi, strangely I am also experiencing the same issue but with the Blackberry curve when tried to update to OS 6. It froze at the install stage. I am at wits end too to undo or wait .. Any advice is deeply appreciated ..

  • 10.4.7 update freezes during install

I'm trying to update a G4 iMac. It had previously crashed hard during the install, so I had to archive and reinstall the OS from the original disks. I ran the disk verify and repair. Now, it downloads the combo update, but it never gets past "Preparing for Installation." No other programs are running during the install. Is there more that I can and should do?
    Thanks for any help.

Probably a bad download. Dump it and download another. If that doesn't work, then you should run the Apple Hardware Test program to rule out any hardware problems.

  • Keyboard Software Update Freezing During Install

    Hi,
I'm, rather belatedly, trying to install KeyboardSoftwareUpdate 1.2 on my PPC G5 running 10.4.11. The keyboard is wired and the problem, which I've read is curable with this update, is that none of the function keys like for volume or brightnesss, etc. work. Every time I try to install this update, the installation freezes after Select Drive and before letting me move on to choosing Installation Type. At this point, I then have to force quit the application. The drive I've been choosing (and which is also the only option for installation) has plenty of space on it. I've had no other issues with any other installations that I can recall. Suggestions? Thanks

    Hello,
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
    Try the install again.
I think Spark cured this FN key thing for another person and the same problem...

  • [SOLVED] Xorg 1.16 updated and won't start with Nvidia driver

I tried updating to xorg 1.16 yesterday and after rebooting everything stopped after "[OK] Reached target Network."
I was able to switch to a different terminal and downgrade to xorg 1.15 to boot again.
I've seen https://www.archlinux.org/news/xorg-ser … available/ but I'm not sure what it implies I need to change to get it to work. I am running Gnome 3 with GDM.
I'm fairly new to Arch so any help to get me moving in the right direction would be great.
    Thanks,
    Justin

That fixed it! You guys are awesome.
    For other's reference...
Once booted press Ctrl+Alt+F2 to get another terminal. Log in and type the following to downgrade the xorg packages.
    cd /var/cache/pacman/pkg
    sudo pacman -U xorg-server-1.15.2-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz xf86-input-evdev-2.9.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
    sudo reboot
Once it reboots you should have your desktop again. Run nvidia-settings and go to X Server Display Configuration. From there click Save to X Configuration File and save the file as 20-nvidia.conf. Then move the file to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-nvidia.conf if you saved it somewhere else.
Upgrade back to xorg 1.16 and reboot.

Was the X Server updated, and have you double checked your .xinitrc file to make sure that it's not the cause of the problem?
    run
    cat /var/log/pacman.log | grep $(date +%F) | grep xorg-server
to see if the X Server was updated today.  If you didn't update it today then just substitute the date as follows
    ... | grep yyyy-dd-mm | ...
Please let us (the community) know whether the grep finds anything in pacman's log.
    No worries.
EDIT: If the X Server was updated recently then you can see if downgrading it helps any.
You can see about using downgrade/downgrader to do the actual downgrading for you OR you can check your pkg cache and reinstall an older version of the X Server from there
    downgrade xorg-server
    OR
    downgrader xorg-server
    OR
    ls /var/cache/pacman/pkg -1 | grep -P "xorg-server-.*-VERSION"

  • About memory issue during installing Oracle 11g on Windows Server 2003

    Hi, all
When I installed Oracle 11g on Windows Server 2003 which the server is a virtual server, Oracle only can detect 2G memory.
But there are 4G memory with my server.
I want to know if the Oracle 11g's new feature or the virtual server lead the issue.
Also , I want to get your help to resolve the issue, thanks a lot.

    Let me get this straight:
You have created some virtual machine using someone's unknown VM software.
You have installed Windows Server 2003 (perhaps, but not confirmed 32-bit) to that VM.
You have allocated 4GB of memory to the VM (we guess ... not sure I'm ready to take your word on this)
You are attempting to install Oracle 11g (presumably 11gR1 32 bit for Windows) in the VM
And the Oracle (installer?) seems to be reporting that you only have 2GB RAM.
Since I personally have installed Oracle 11g 32bit for Windows on Windows 2003 server with 4GB RAM and had no issues, I would be investigating the (unknown) VM environment.

  • Issue during install of Photoshop CS5 - files do not completely extract.

"A problem occurred while extracting some files. Check available space on your computer and the write privileges on the destination folder" - trying to install Photoshop CS5 after hard drive crashed.  New install of Windows 7 64bit.  Downloaded install files and get this message part way through the extraction.

are you installing on a partition less than 1tb in size?  if not, partition your hd so you can install on a less than 1tb sized partition.

  • Flashplayer update crashes during install.

I am trying to update Flashplayer on Dell PCs using the following OSs & Browsers.
XP Prefessional, XP Home & Windows 7
    IE8 ver 8.0.6001.17802
    IE9 ver 9.0.8112.16421
    Firefox 19.0.2
After downloading the exe file for Flashplayer ver 11.6.602.180
Upon clicking on file downloaded, the installation begins then an error box pops up with
An error has occurred in the script on this page.
    Line: 1
    Char: 16104
    Error: Object expected
    Code: 0
    URL: http://127.0.0.1:2156/app/_js/adobe.js
Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?
        Yes No
Then no matter what I do, it pops up with the second error box with
An error has occurred in the script on this page.
    Line: 1
    Char: 19197
    Error: Object expected
    Code: 0
    URL: http://127.0.0.1:2156/app/_js/adobe.js
Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?
        Yes No
This has been going on for almost a year now & I am surprised Adobe has not fixed it yet.
I cant remember how I got around this for the last few updates, but this is very time consumming and because I tried unistalling Flashplayer & this error continuing to happen, I now have no Flashplayer.
Is there anyone that can suggest an alternative to Flashplayer?
    Kind Regards, Rusty

Download and run the offline installer from http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-windows.html#mai n-pars_header

  • Dell mini 10v Issue during install process.

When I attempt to build the b43 firmware from makepkg, it says "==> ERROR: Cannot fing the strip binary required for object file stripping." Please keep in mind that I am using the install usb because I can't connect to the internet. The fwcutter is installed as well. Thank you for reading.

The live media unfortunately does not include all of base-devel.  You need the binutils package, which has /usr/bin/strip.  The live media is really meant to be used with internet access, but I see your dilemma here.
You obviously have internet access on something though, so why not download the package itself (or look in /var/cache/pacman/pkg if you installed base-devel on the on-disk system) and install it into the live media with pacman -U.

I wish I fully understood your post, but perhaps you should try re-downloading. Are you trying to download the 10.7.3 update? If so, then try downloading OS X Lion Update 10.7.3 (Client Combo).
