Some email addresses won't send - sometimes.

I just upgraded to Lion. Here's my unusual issue: Some of the emails I try to send using Apple Mail get rejected by my ISP's outgoing mail server ( I am required to use the ISP's outgoing server to send mail using password authentication). I can't seem to find any rhyme or reason as to when and why this happens. It is an "on again, off again" issue and occurs at different times to different email addresses I am trying to send to. Sometimes an email address is allowed to be sent to by my ISP. Sometimes it is not. When the message is disallowed, I get ths following error message:
"Sending the message content to the server failed. Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be sent."
I cannot send mail using any other outgoing server other than the one the ISP requires. About 95% of my messages make it through there.
Initially, I assumed the issue must be my ISP but I've tested the ISP's outgoing mail server using web mail and there is no issue there. I can also send web mail from my web hosting account. I am pretty sure Apple Mail is doing something to offend the outgoing mail server. Anyone have any ideas? This is very odd.

The symptoms you describe sound like an unstable Internet connection to me. Webmail and SMTP are two different things, so when web mail does work, that does not mean that you can connect to the mail servers through SMTP. Could be the Internet connection or a firewall. You should try to send the same mail, with the same outgoing mail server at different times, when that works once and does not work another time, it is very likely that this is a problem that only your ISP can fix, since no settings have changed...
Hope that helps

Emails from one particular email address won't download into Mail for my [email protected] account. Email from everyone else comes in fine. I can see his mail in webmail and on my iPhone, but not in Mail. It comes through to my yahoo address but not my main address. Here are the headers from one of his emails, hopefully someone will have an idea how to fix this.

    Paula,
I sent two different photos. The same photo has been placed in both boxes.
    Ray

It's not the images that aren't downloading, it's the entire email. His email just doesn't show up in Mail, like it was never sent at all.
I access [email protected] through Mail app.
Not sure about winmail.dat... and not sure what program he uses to send mail.
Some of his mail gets through, some doesn't. Doesn't seem to be any reason. It's not always emails with attachments that don't get through. Sometimes it's just a plain text email that doesn't get through.
    Thanks,
    Paula

  • IPhone email receives, won't send - have read through forums, nothing works

    Hoping someone can help.
my iPhone receives email but won't send.
I first tried the automatic sync through iTunes as I am on an iMac and use the Mail client. That didn't work.
Then I deselected 'sync' and set up the account directly on my iPhone. First I did it just like my blackberry (which always worked) - as a POP account, with the same settings as on my computer.
Then i tried it as an IMAP and Exchange account. didn't work.
Please tell me it's something simple I'm doing wrong - here are the details:
    Incoming mail server:
    host: mail.website.com
    user: sarah+website.com
    password
    Outgoing Mail Server:
smtp.earthlink.net - also tried smtp.website.net, with and without SSL
    sarah+website.com
password - tried it with and without user + password (as i never needed this on bberry)
If anyone has any suggestions at all I would be grateful -
    thanks so much,
    sarah

We went to the "www.apple.com/support/iphone/mailhelper/" and followed all its directions (you are asked to enter your e-mail address, and it returns with everything you need to enter to set up the info).
Before this worked, we had to undo the mail sync in iTunes, then select the "eject iPhone" from a pull down, unplug the iPhone. We then deleted the earthlink account we had first created. Then we recreated a new Earthlink account using the info given us from the link above. The only thing we had to change was under Settings/Mail/Authentication ... don't select anything. It defaults to the MD5 thing but doesn't display anything -- just leave it that way.
I guess that sometimes the sync operation muddles up the process when first creating yor mail accounts.

"The reply" as in the Rescue email to reset your Security Questions? If so, then you will have to contact iTunes Support directly to get them reset:

  • How do I use a Contact Group email address as the sender of an email?

I want members of the contact group to be able to manual select the contact group email address as the SENDER.  This, primarily, so that recipient clients can respond, if necessary, by merely pressing reply (then the entire group gets the email).
    Possible?

By "contact group" do you mean a distribution group?  If so, you need to use one of the following the shell commands:
    For Send on Behalf:   Set-DistributionGroup <group alias> -GrantSendOnBahalfTo <useralias>
    For Send As:              Add-AdPermission<group ID>-User<user alias>-ExtendedRights'Send-As'

  • Apple Mail - Load images for some email addresses automatically

Is it possible in Apple Mail to put some email addresses on a white list so that the images within their emails always load?
I don't want all images to load for every email I get, but I find it an annoyance to have to often load images from contacts I already trust.

AppleScript to the rescue!  Thank you Linc Davis!!!
Still find it strange Apple doesn't have this built into the Mail interface as an option and have to run a script [grumble].

  • Mail doesn't recognize email address I'm sending to

I'm trying to send an email to a group in my address book but whenever I try to send it I get the error message:
"The server “smtp.mac.com” did not recognize the following recipients:" and then lists most of the email addresses I'm sending to.
I don't think I could have that many of the email addresses wrong, so I have no idea what's wrong. Does anyone have any advice?

I've got the same problem. Is there a way to turn this off?
Unfortunately, the ISP's have been catching so much flak for spewing spam that they have resorted to methods to protect their reputations regardless of how you want to work.
The most obvious spam in the world is a message with a large number of recipients.
PC users can not be trusted by their ISP's because their machines are infested so often with programs designed to spread spam.
If an ISP is accused of sending too much Spam they run the risk of getting dumped to the "Black Hole" by other ISP's and that damages the ISP's ability to do business. Hence the reason for the ISP's to get involved. They never cared much before now, until it started affecting their business.
So, because of the trash and bull that's been going on with the Trojan Programs on Windows machines for the last 4 years, I don't think you can do much, except to try other mail servers that may not interfere with your messages. If you get your own domain on a host, you own the mail server. Maybe that's an answer...

  • Email address autocomplete in Send & Track

Earlier today we launched our first version of "email address autocomplete" for Send & Track.
If you're using the web interface for Document Cloud, http://cloud.acrobat.com/send, and you choose to send a "Personalized Invitation" and enter email addresses, you'll see a feature you're probably used to using in other software: email address autocompletion. After you type a few characters, we will show you a short list of potentially relevant email addresses that you've previously used within Adobe Send & Track. Simply choose the one you want (either by mouse or using your arrow keys and tab or return), or continue typing if it's an address you haven't used before.
We anticipate this feature being included in releases of Adobe Acrobat DC and Adobe Acrobat Reader DC later this year. Meanwhile, if you're using our desktop tools, you can continue to use our integration with your local machine's Address Book.
Feedback, or questions, are welcome as always.

    THANK YOU!!!!

  • Some email shows name of sender some show address

In Mail, in my upper viewing pane where all emails are shown in a list, some show the name of the sender (John Doe) and some show the email address ([email protected]). I have smart addresses turned on, and in the body of the message all emails show the name, rather than the address. Those where only the email address shows are in my address book, so they're not unknown to the system. What's up with this? Is that something I can change or is that a setting in the sender's preferences as to what they want to appear?

  • 553 errors sending to some email addresses, not others

Hi! I have several complaining companies who can't send emails to some domains, others are ok.
I have confirmed that each or these use <providername>.blackberry.net as the return address. These are the only ones affected. I have removed the Cmime service book entries on my Blackberry and resent, with no affect on the problem. I can send to these domains with a different return (from) address. The exact error is: 5.1.0 Unknown address error
553-"Requested action not taken mailbox name not allowed". The message never is seen by the destination server.
The interesting part is I can send to other domains with the blackberry.net zone, without this error. Can you shed some insight here?

The contacts are in MobileMe, but they are the same as in the phone, i.e., no email addresses.
So the answer to my question - is all contact info available in your MobileMe online address book is no?
I have tried syncing with Outlook 2007 and gave up - something as simple as phone number labels I have with the Address Book and iPhone such as "Main" for a phone number didn't compute with Outook - which is a garbage application IMO. I switched to using Windows Contacts for syncing contact info. A little better but with Windows Contacts, you can't have a company name designation only - Windows Contacts wants to place the company name as a first and last name in addition to the company name only, which I haven't been able to stop. I finally gave up trying to keep Outlook or Windows Contacts automatically synchronized with MM. If I want to add contact info or any changes, I have MM replace all contact info instead of automatically synchronized.

  • How eliminate some email address when sending to a Group

On Mac mini signed up for Thunderbird because Mail/Comcast would receive but not send messages. I have groups listed in address book. I can select a group and Thunderbird sends BCC out fine. I want to be able to eliminate some of the members in the group from some emails. I do not see who they have been sent to until the email has been sent. I want to edit the names in the group when I get ready to send. Any way I can do this. This is the way I was handling group messages in Mail. It worked fine until they decided to receive but not send my e-mails.

As per https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1022522 you solved your problem. Please mark this thread as 'Solved'.
    Thank you.

  • Cannot change the email address where Apple sends "help for resetting info dealing with security questions".  Won't allow change.

I have forgotten the answer to one of two My Apple ID security questions.  Apple has supplied the solution to that problem online in Edit Your Apple ID.   I would be happy to follow those instructions, except......the only email address the Edit Your Apple ID page will allow me is one that has not been functional for over a year.  There are no options for changing that recovery email address since I only have two security questions, not three, as Apple specifies. Neither can I find an option for switching to the two-stage verification process---although I would rather not do this.  I recently edited my email addresses in My Apple ID on my Sony Vaio laptop in an effort to alleviate the problem, but it didn’t help. I use the Apple ID on an iPad (4th gen Wi-Fi + Cellular MM) and two iPhone 5 (IOS 8).  Does anyone have suggestions? Feel that I've read through all the fine print and cannot locate an answer.

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions. To do this, click here and pick a method; if that page doesn't list one for your country or you're unable to call, fill out and submit this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

  • Some email not making it through sometimes, other times no problem

I have a user on my server who complains that sometimes she receives email from a particular person and sometimes not. She receives all other email just fine. I need help trying to diagnose why some of those messages just disappear.
In Server Admin, mail filtering is set to deliver spam, but change the subject line to include * SPAM * so my thought is the message should be arriving one way or another. I've set all logging levels to debug in the Mail services section. I searched through some log files looking for the particular email address, hoping to find a reason it was ignored sometimes, no luck.
Can someone help me find out why some messages from that outsider get delivered and sometimes not?
    Thank you!!!
    --Patrick

Check the client's mail tool (as was mentioned) for its spam filtering settings, and check the details of these lost or missing messages from the sender's end (eg: have the sender forward one of the lost messages to another user), and have the sender replicate the messages to another address for a while (other than to this user), and investigate the contents of the particular messages (to see if there's something tripping spam filtering), and investigate white-listing the sender for the particular client.
I'd also take a look at the version of the client's mail tool (for upgrades or fixes not covered by, for instance, Mac OS X upgrades), and at the configuration of the client system and the client mailer.
It's quite possible to set up message processing rules in most mail clients, and these can cause mail messages to appear lost if the rules are forgotten or miscoded.
It's possible that the mail is going into the bit-bucket at the sender's end of the connection. There are tools which scan out-bound SMTP messages in place at the firewall within some organizations. And there are buggy SMTP servers around. (Hence the earlier suggestion to replicate future messages to multiple receivers.)
Further down the chain of what most folks want to look at are the SMTP logs. Feasible, but somewhat more work than I'd want to start with.
