Some keyboard keys of Satellite A660-11M don't work

hi,
the keyboard of my Satellite A660-11M is not working properly. Some keys won't type, others would type the wrong letter/number.
Does replacing the keyboard usually fix the problem? Are keyboards available for this model?
By the way, juice was accidentally spilled on it weeks ago, so i assume it's the cause of the problem.
thanks in advance.

Hi
Yes, possibly the issue is related to the spilled juice.
I think only the keyboard replacement could help you
The new keyboard can be ordered from a Toshiba ASP in your country.

  • Satellite A660-11M on Windows 7 - Toshiba Power Saver does not work

    I have a Satellite A660-11M and I work on Windows 7 Ultimate
The problem is that I have download all drivers and updates but the toshiba power saver does not work its installed with no error and TPSLaunch (green icon) does not open when I click on it and no icon I found in the control panel for the program afterIi install all the Value Added Package!

Toshiba Power Saver is only for XP installations, you can't install the XP Drivers (and most Vista Drivers) in Windows 7.
Make sure all your drivers are for the A660, and make sure they are for Windows 7.

    Hi buddy,
    Wait a moment, please.
Im a little bit confused about your posting First you write about Power Saver and then about green icon Which one you mean exactly and whats the problem?
If you mean Eco mode you have to install Eco Utility from official Toshiba website.

  • Satellite A660-11M - Some become garbled

Hi guys, looking for some help.
The sound on my laptop (satellite a660-11m) has intermittently become garbled. Almost like a base rumble. sounds terrible almost as if speakers are blown if that makes any sense.
Any ideas, iv'e only had it 3 months

    Hi
I think also this has something to do with the sound settings.
Unfortunately, Im not A660 owner so I cannot say exactly what you have to change but my notebook has an preinstalled sound tool which can be found in control panel.
There i could change the sound appearance.
I would also recommend updating the sound driver as suggested by Xardas

    Hello
First of all I have to say that you can ignore such driver update messages. If you dont notice any problems you can still use the old drivers.
For power saving you should use the Eco-Mode on your notebook. As far as I know Satellite A660 has an Eco key and if you press it, Eco Utility will start and save energy.
Furthermore the preinstalled Windows 7 from Toshiba is already configured for best compatibility and good performance. You can install and do what you want, everything is configured properly. :)

  • Satellite A660-11M: regular crashes, sometimes even before the BIOS...

    Hello,
I purchased one month ago an Satellite A660-11M.
I set up a double boot windows 7 / ubuntu 10.04, and I experienced several times a complete freeze of the system under both OS. Moreover, after a freeze the laptop is really hard to reboot: it generally freezes several times in a row, and most of the time there is no screen display at all (I cannot even see the BIOS lines, nor the toshiba logo).
I read several threads with the same diagnosis, and it seems to be likely to come from the AC adapter.
Is there a way to be sure that it comes from it, and if yes what can I do about it ? If I send my computer in warranty, what are the chances that this issue is fixed?
    Thank you for your answer.
    Best,
    pico770

Hello and thank you for your previous answer.
After several days of chaotic use of my computer, I have some other symptoms:
    - crashes can happen under both windows and linux, under any kind of application (firefox, warcraft 3, windows startup, linux startup).
    - when there is a crash, the hard drive seems to go on, however: the picture is frozen, generally the sound is frozen as well (yet not always) and neither the mouse nor the keyboard are answering. If I press the maj key, the led usually signalling the maj mode doesn't react. I then have no other choice than pressing the power key 5 secs...
    - after a crash, the reboot is very painful: it crashes generally several times during the boot process (under win 7 and linux) and there is a very weird stuff happening: the video card seems to remember the crash, ie for example what happened once is: I got a crash under Win7. I rebooted directly under Linux, and Linux booted AUTOMATICALLY in safe video mode (it happened once under windows as well). Under linux I extracted the Xorg.1.log file, and here are the 2 lines in error:
(EE) [drm] failed to open device
(EE) Failed to initialize GLX extension (Compatible NVIDIA X driver not found)
However, when the boot is normal, I don't have such a thing, which means that the driver is actually working well.
It seems that each time I boot in safe mode (under both win and ubuntu) everything works fine. So the issue may actually come from the video card (GeForce 330M). I didn't change the factory driver under windows, but it is more recent than the one present on Toshiba website...
    Thank you for your time,
    pico770

  • Satellite A660-11M - How to enable WiFi?

Hi. I have a Satellite A660-11M with key features
    -Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (pre-installed, Toshiba-HDD recovery)
    -Intel Core i7-720QM Processor
    Wifi:
    Compliancy : Wi-Fi
    Network Support : 802.11b/g/n
    Manufacturer : Broadcom
    Wireless Technology : Wireless LAN
    Manufacturer : Broadcom
    Wireless Technology : Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR
It has been working fine but after the children were using the machine and shut it down I cannot see the Router using the wifi.
I tried the hardware switch on the media strip between the keyboard and the screen and none of the buttons respond; I suspect this may be the issue.
Fn F8 brings up the wifi fn display but clicking on it will not enable it. Trouble shooting informs me to "Turn on Wireless Capability" but as stated above, the media strip appears to be inactive. I can connect normally using the cable to the router.
I tried a System Restore but that didn't help.
So although I have a sinking feeling I am missing something obvious, any thoughts before I start reloading wifi driver and resetting BIOS? If that is the recommended approach, what driver controls the media strip
    Many thanks for any help.

Thanks for all your assistance... Got it sorted:
For anyone else with this model, *it was a hardware fault.*
You need to undo one of the screws on the underside of the laptop (I undid them all 8o() and gently lift up the keyboard fascia from the top (directly above the function buttons). Under here you will find a small ribbon cable from the media panel to the motherboard... this had come undone.
    Reconnected, rebooted, job's a good'un.
Genuinely impressed with how supportive this forum is... in Arnie's immortal words: I'll be back!

  • Do anyone knows drivers installation order for Satellite A660-11M

Do anyone knows the drivers installation order for Satellite a660-11m?
I've got some issue installing Win 7 pro (wlan do not work properly,
freezing few minutes after laptop startup, unabling to run CHKDSK on C:).
Reading this forum it seems to me these aren't new issues for Toshiba users.

    Hi, friends.
I've installed the the Flash Card Support Utility. In effect, now the function keys work. ;) <img class="emoticon" border="0" alt="" />
Unfortunately it seems that problems are hard to die. The Laptop, in fact, keeps freezing, tipically but not exclusively, after resuming from suspension due to lid closing. System can stucks during windows login or after a while that user is logged on.
During these days i've discovered that SPTD.exe x64 v.1.74 (Daemon Tools) and Nod32 x64 makes impossible launching chkdsk on %SystemDrive% (countdown stucked on 1 and hdd led blinked with very short ON state). However, even without installing those, it seems that one is not able to break the countdown (that windows shows before it starts chkdsk) pressing a key.
But maybe I should open a new topic for talcking about this.

  • Satellite A660-11M - Ventilation holes on body

    Hello everyone!
Last week I've started to play in ARMA 2 on my SATELLITE A660-11M and after 20 minutes playing it gets hot and automaticaly shut down. I read a lot of topics in forum and decide to clean cooler with compressed air can. Suddenly ive noticed that laptop dont have under the body ventialtion holes, exactly in this place where is the cooler fan. To describe this more properly, I can say that on rear side of laptop body there is circle of ventilation grille but this grille is absolutely integrally molded.
J think this is defect of smelting.
Anyone has the same problem? How can I make a ventilation holes?

    Hi deadpastor,
    > i will try to find some information in web about manual moding of laptop bodies for best perfomance
Sorry but in my opinion thats funny
I have also Satellite A660. I have it with Intel Core i7 CPU, 6GB RAM, 500GB HDD and GeForece GT330M graphic card and I guess your model has the same CPU and graphic card.
Well, I also dont have any holes in this place and everything runs fine, I dont have any problems with overheating or something else.
I have installed several games: Crysis, GTA IV, Far Cry2, Mass Effect and others. Every games runs properly for hours, performance is good and no overheating.
I use the preinstalled Winodws 7 64bit Home Premium version with newest display driver from Toshiba (260.51) and newest BIOS 1.80-WIN.
Everything runs like a charme :)
If you dont believe me I have taken a photo of the Satellite A660 body where you can also see the specs (720QM/4G/+2G/etc)
    http://img641.imageshack.us/i/img5655j.jpg/
Where do you use your notebook? I use it on my clean desk. Dont use it on your bed or similar. Make also sure that there is enough free space around the notebook.
User manual can give you more detailed instructions where to use the computer.
Your problem would be solved if you didnt open it yourself because its out of warranty now.
Everything what you can do now is asking an ASP for repair cost or you modify the case but I dont think it will help if there is really a hardware issue

  • Satellite A660-11M: Does not start with 8GB of RAM, but works with 6GB

    Satellite A660-11M:
I upgraded my RAM from 4GB (2x2GB) to 8GB (2x4GB). When I start the computer I can see in the BIOS it reads the 8GB of RAM. However, when it boots up, it does not go past the blank DOS screen (just before starting Windows).
If I remove one of the 4GB & replace with a 2GB (so I have 6GB in total) it starts ok.
Does anyone know how can I get it to work with 8GB of RAM?

    Hey,
To be honest I never heard about SanMax RAM modules...
In my opinion the problems is related to your RAM modules Not compatible to your notebook or defective.
Can you test it with high quality modules from Kingston or pretested modules from an authorized service provider?

    :) listen dude
Every display (TV, LCD, TFT, notebooks display, external display, etc.) might affect your eyes if you would not follow the rules recommended by manufacturers and eye specialist ;)
You should take a break between the computer work sessions and gaming.
You should keep distance to the monitor and be sure that your environment is bright enough
Read the user manual and ask your eye specialist how to avoid red eyes ;)

Hi l, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
I agree with captfred, you definitely want to run that update, and then repair permissions. If that doesn't do the trick, try removing the batt and running. In some cases the batt causes pressure on a cable between it and the inside of the MBP case, resulting in keyboard/trackpad issues.

  • The multimedia controls on my Satellite 2450-S203 don't work

    Hi,
The multimedia controls on my Toshiba Satellite S2450-S203 don't work you got any idea of what is wrong?

I have noticed several postings about the Toshiba controls issues. Mostly the buttons like play, stop, pause dont work. I dont know why but mostly the reinstallation of the tool and the common modules will help.
Seems some files or registry keys are corrupt

  • Some keyboard keys don't work; most are fine

    Hi guys,
I have a really bizarre problem with my first generation 15" MBP. When I turned it on today, I realized that the down and left arrows don't work, yet the up and left arrows do. Unfortunately, I've also since realized that the tab button doesn't work, nor does the space bar! It's just a few sporadic - but very important - keys that don't work. The computer hasn't been through any trauma - no drops, no water damage, no poor working conditions...this just happened out of the blue. Does anyone have any idea as to what might have caused this, and if there's anything I can do myself to fix it? Oh, and I have Windows XP installed via bootcamp, and the same problem exists there - so it's definitely a hardware issue...right?
See this link for a photo I took of the keyboard, with the buttons that no longer work highlighted in red. http://img193.imageshack.us/i/keyboardwjp.jpg/

There are two basic possible problems though your description of which keys are non-functional leads me to think the first is rather unlikely. The first is that the keyboard cable may have worked itself partially loose. The cable can work itself loose without any trauma involved - we see one every couple of months where I work. The second possibility is physical disruption/damage to the individual keys, like water damage or something small working its way under the key to impede its ability to touch the contacts. I'd suggest going to an Apple store or repair center.

  • Pavilion 15-b142dx Some Keyboard keys not working

A friend gave me their Pavilion 15-b142dx  sleekbook, apparently AFTER they spilled some type of liquid in it. I was able to revive the computer, however, there is still a problem with the keyboard.  When the keyboard is installed in the laptop, several of the keys do not work. However, when I take it out (and suspend it with some plastic) it works fine.  I have disconnected the ribbon cable, and taken some alcohol to clean up the area. I have also been able to run the HP diagnostics on bootup, both short and extended versions, and they come back ok.  Additionally, I connected an external keyboard and it worked fine. I have searched the forum for this type of question and didn't see it. Has anyone else had this problem, or am I looking at replacing the keyboard?
I currently am running windows 8.1. I do not get any error messages, but I did notice HP does not include a keyboard key test in its diagnostics.
    This question was solved.

    Hi there @MrKen99
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that some of your keys are not working, after some liquid decided to pay an unwanted visit to the board. I am happy to assist you with this.
In my sordid past I have seen some really messed up keyboards, due to similar things, coffee, cola, water, whatever. My most memorable was someone who brought me a computer that was used in a kitchen and was close to a deep fat fryer, and the keyboard was not only coated with oil and grease but a build up of fuzzy dust all throughout the keyboard. In that case I recommended a replacement as the cost to clean it was more expensive than a new one.
Anyway, it sounds as if you have already tried to clean it, but if you did not pop off the offending/non-working keys, the contacts could be "tacky". Make note of the keys that are having the problem and treat them individually. This document shows how to remove and replace keys from a standard notebook keyboard.
    Notebook Keyboard Troubleshooting (Windows 8)
If you do not have any success doing that then, I would look at either replacing the keyboard, or using an external keyboard. If you choose a replacement you can look at the service manual for it, and it will list the supported parts.
