Some Mac OS X game questions

I'm trying to create a game for Mac OS X. I want to be able to create a program where you are a spaceship, and you manuever your way through space, and I'll add other features to that, once I have the basics down. I have the following questions.
1. How do I draw an NSImage in a view? I don't want to use an NSImageView, because I want the image to be able to move around.
2. What would be the best way to start desinging my game? I haven't even started?
I might come up with more questions later on. I am really stuck here. I have no idea where to begin.

I found this method:

I tried this out, but I don't know what NSCompositingOperation I want to use, I don't really understand them, even after looking at the documentation. What would be the best one to use to just make an NSImage appear in a view?

Where can I find some good children's games for cheap?

I just got an old second generation iMac G3 for my son (4). It is running OSX 10.1. I would like to put some games on it for my son to play. Previously he had a PC running Windows 98 and a bunch of kids games like Reader Rabbit and other education yet entertaining programs. However, none of them have Mac install versions on the CD's we got. I am wondering if anyone knows a good place that sells some good quality educational games for children in the <$5 each price range.
I know there is new stuff on Apple.com for $20+ each, and I will probably get some of those, but the problem with the new ones is that they are going to require OSX 10.2.8+ and I do not have and extra copy of that.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

You can restore your system to the older operating system, by applying the installer that installed 10.6, followed by the 10.6.8 combo update. However, some things may not operate as expected. In that event an erase and install might be needed. Make sure before any erase you have at least two backups handy.

Try syncing to your Mac and then try again. Don't know what is causing that problem.
If you really must delete the item from your ipad, first delete it in iTunes on your computer then sync the iPad with the computer.

New Upgrade Wrecked Mac OS 9 Game Video

On March 7, 2007 I upgraded Quicktime, ITunes and Backup and after running this and restarting, my Mac OS 9 games lost video.
I was just playing one yesterday and wanted to finish the game I had started, but couldn't get any video signal after the upgrade. I then tried another OS 9 game I really like (Total Annihillation) and there was no Video on that either.
Any suggestions, or will this be fixed in the future????
I still have video for my other OS 9 Applications (mostly Statistics), but I have games that are waiting to be finished.

OK - 10.4.9 fixed this for one game, but not for the other I wanted to play.
Ah well, some of us prefer to live in the past when games were really games and not all these Visual Effects.

NetBoot : some Macs not reacting

Hi there!
We are currently running the latest OS-X Server (10.4.10) on our XServe dual-G5 and offfer a Netboot service to 4 Mac clients (a preliminary test phase). One machine served as our image disk, which I drew a system image from using the target disk mode on our G5Quad. All went well and the image is bootable as intended.
However, when deploying our client machines, I noted that 2 of the 4 machines are not booting from the Netboot image but show the blinking question mark on the startup screen (the disks are empty on all clients). The other 2 machines however boot in no time with the same image.
If I start the non-booting clients by keeping the "N" pressed, they boot perfectly as well...
Now, I've checked all the standard issues like DHCP, conflicting IPs, net availability, etc. and nothing so far has crossed my attention. All receive a correct IP address (related to their MAC addresses) and all can "see" the network properly. Here's a short log excerpt from netboot :

Our DHCP server is a Linux machine BTW...no issues here as well.

However, like I stated in my previous post, the problem is not the startup disk chosen...if so, why would 2 of 4 Macs start correctly from the net an the remaining only by being forced to netboot with the "N" key? All Macs were prepared in the exact same way.
What I came up with was the latest EFI update for iMacs. I am going to try to find out which Mac was updated and which not. Maybe that's an explanation why some Macs seem lost!

Some Macs while they have Firewire, don't support Target Disk Mode, nor Firewire booting. These Macs if they came with no DVD drive, and only a CD drive or CD-RW drive (as opposed to combo or superdrive), can only install Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4) if you:
1. Install a compatible internal DVD drive from which supports http://www.patchburn.de/ or other firmware that supports Mac OS X booting.
2. Find the original retail CD version of Mac OS X 10.4 that was available for a limited time called the Media Exchange Program CD.
These Macs include the Blue and White G3 desktop (non-iMac), and the PCI PowerMac G4 described below:

The iMac G3 with built-in Firewire, iBook G3 with built-in Firewire, and AGP PowerMac G4 with built-in Firewire at least support Firewire booting and Target Disk Mode which would allow them to use an external optical DVD drive that supports Mac OS X booting.

What happens if the firmware isn't updated?
The display may stop working, even for OS 9. It is not easy to fix.
I just installed 10.2 on one of them and it seems to be working. Should I uninstall it and upgrade the firmware and start over?
Check the "Boot ROM version" with System profiler. If the firmware is updated it will be 4.1.9
It is not necessary to remove OSX to install the updates if OS 9 is still on the hard drive. If not, and the OS 9 drivers are there, OS 9 can be installed without affecting OSX.
The update won't install if it is not needed.

Some math elements appear as question marks in equations - FM9/Win7Pro

Hello everyone,
I am facing the issue that some math elements appear as question marks in equations; for example, the summation and angle symbols.
The approximately equal or the alpha symbols, for example, appear correctly.
The symbol font is installed.
System specs:
FrameMaker 9 with the latest patches installed.
Windows 7 Professional with the latest updates installed.
The strange thing is that math elements appear correctly using virtual computers on my computer (Windows XP and Windows 7 Ultimate on VMWare).
Same maker.ini file and fonts are present on all (real and virtual) computers.
I have reinstalled FrameMaker already on my real computer (where I have the trouble) and it did not solve the issue.
I have checked (I think) all question mark related topics (when question marks are displayed instead of the correct characters) on this site, but none of them provided the solution to my problem.
I would appreciate your help!

Thank you for your response.
I use Adobe PDF as the default printer on both the real and virtual computers and I do not know the SetPrint utility.
I see the question marks appear in the FM files as well as in the printed PDF. It makes me think it is not a printing issue.
c:\windows\fonts is provided as the Font Source in the Embedding box for the Adobe PDF printer both on my real computer and my virtual one.
The SymbolMT font is listed in both cases in the Embedding box, which is (probably) referred to as Symbol Regular when I open the c:\windows\fonts folder using Windows Explorer. No other symbol fonts seem to be installed in this folder. I do not know how to check what other folders FM considers.
By the way, I can insert the summation character, for example, as a simple character using the Equations editor correctly, the problem comes when I try to insert it as a math element.

I was receiving the same error message yesterday, which said There was a problem downloading "The Song Name / Album / Artist". The file seems to be corrupted. To redownload the file, choose "Check for Available Downloads" from the Store menu. The file tries to download five times before this error message appears.
I too, tried to find the file and delete it, but it was no where to be found.
So I gave up for that moment and tried again today and I was able to successfully download the file. Amazing how that works!!!
