Some ONTs not capable of self install?

Hello All,
Current FIOS customer - and moving to an apartment four blocks away where the previous tenant had FIOS. Scheduled the move as soon as I signed the lease, so a tech will visit on 9/10.
Our FIOS is ***CRUCIAL*** to our existence - cell phone service here is spotty (town won't approve new towers) and the wife and I work from the house.
I finally got a hold of someone in support today, who checked with their manager, and it took an hour - but they came back and said that the ONT in the new address "cannot be activated" through the self install process. I did not want to give up the 9/10 date until I verified that a self install was possible - if I give up that date, they told me October was the next available slot.
Do I have any options at all? They are trying to move the date forward, but I'm not holding my breath. I'd pay for some kind of expedited service. I would visit a local office if I thought it would help at all. I could live without for 1-4 days but 10 days?!??!
Does this make any sense that some ONTs can be self-installed and others cannot?

What happened to the old cabling (RG6)? Is it still there inside the apt? Outside? Was it cut off at the ONT?

Hi just wanted to let you know I solved most of my XP problems with my new IPOD. It won't recognise the IPOD or driver and froze and locked up and then the battery died. After hours of trying different things here is what I did. I completly closed computer down. Waited 15 minutes turned on and reloaded everything. I put the usb cable in but not hooked up to IPOD. I turned off Mcaffee (all of it). After my computer came on. I then went and closed everything I didn't need in the bottom toolbar. (taskbar). I then reloaded the software and waited. Took forever to reload and I don't know why but whatever it worked but I DID NOT HOOK UP THE IPOD LIKE IT SAID! I instead shut down the computer after loading the software and waited 5 minutes and turned it back on. I again waited and shut of mcaffee. It loaded everything fine this time and said new hard ware and drivers detected. I plugged my IPOD in and YES I WAS UP AND RUNNING (THIS IS AFTER 6 HOURS OF PLAYING WITH OTHER THINGS!) I am able to load and play, burn, watch movies, see pictures and everything your suppose too! The only thing I see different than the instructions is I left my usb cable plugged in and when it said to eject the disk I didn't. I also didn't plug in the IPOD (5th Gen) and then I shut down waited and then restarted the computer. I hope this helps others because I know the feeling of wanting to return something you paid dearly for and worked hard at saving money to buy one and it doesn't work. My only thing I dislike about apple is they didn't supply a ac adapter for the IPOD and the instructions say to plug it up when trying to charge battery. DUHHHHHH, ya can't do that if ya don't have one and stores are closed and won' open until Monday! But at least I am up and running. I just hate having to plug up IPOD to computer daily to charge the battery which only last a half a day1

I installed Nik:s suite of plug-ins for LR5 but for some reason not all of them were installed. In the end I uninstalled all of the Nik programs from my Mac but before I reinstalled them I opened LR5 again to check. Under "photo" and "edit in" the plug-in

Wow that was really quick, thank you so much. Im not sure at all which version it was because i said it was around 4 years ago he bought it. I know it isn't under his username, since he's a PC person (ugh) so i know its probably registered to one of our actual names. isn't there some way to look it up since we did register it, because I'm not even sure where the disks are from when we bought it (we've moved a lot and also have two storage lockers, i know i would have kept it with other disks) but my cd rom drive is actually broken on my computer as well ( i think it got stepped on and is now squished and won't eject or run disks.)
So is there anyway they can look up that its registered to one of our names since we did register it when we bought and installed it, or do i really have to find the disk with some sort of proof of purchase (i know there would be no receipt after all this time)

Err: CLI0150E Driver not capable. SQLSTATE=S1C00 when dragging a table...

Hello everyone, first i wanna tell you that I love your CR4E product! You did an awesome job! Now, I am having a problem with creating a report using DB2 data. I have a ODBC connection, and I successfully connect to DB2. I can see all the tables; however, when I try to see sample data from a table i get java.sql.SQLException: General error message.Also, if I try to drag a table to a report it gives me CLI0150E Driver not capable. SQLSTATE=S1C00 error. I have downloaded new DB2 drivers, and when i create a new Data connection I pick db2jcc.jar file.I really dont know what the problem is.Please help.thanks, nn 

Hi, you mention that you have an ODBC connection, but you also talk about connecting to the db2jcc.jar, can you provide me with some more details regarding what your database connection string looks like in the Database Explorer view? Are you connecting to the ODBC DSN using the JDBC driver or connecting directly to the DB2 server? We have tested the DB2 connections with CR4E so it should work without too many issues. Unfortunately, I do not have a DB2 server installed on my machine and I am on the road this week so I cannot test this at this time. However, I will give this a try when I get in next week against our test database servers and let you know the connection details that we used for our testing. In the meantime any more detail you can give me on exactly how you are setting up your connection will be useful. Self install kit and failed video sik charges

My Comcast bill this month had a $15 charge for a "self install kit" and a $40 charge for “failed video sik”. Yes I was sent a self-install kit, but did not order one. I drove to the local Comcast office some 30 miles away to return it to unopened. What I did order was a cable card, which I picked up at the local Comcast office. After a full week of unsuccessful online troubleshooting and two 60 mile round trip visits to the Comcast office to exchange cable cards, it was suggested that a technician come out to my house. On 3/13 the technician arrived and after 5 minutes determined my issue was a "trap" on my cable line. After he removed it the cable card started working immediately. So after wasting a week of my time and two trips to the Comcast office you all reward my good nature by charging me $55. I can understand that there can be difficulties in setting up a new service, but I should not be charged when those difficulties were on your end not mine.

I am so frustrated right now. I also got a SIK charge on my new account with Comcast. I signed up with Comcast about 3 months ago. I am so busy, I didn't install
The equipment for about 6 weeks. I finally did it, but was unable to get the video to work. I called the customer Service multiple times. I even spoke to the technical department. They were unable to help me. After multiple phone calls I was told that I needed to have a technician come to my house. I said I did not want to pay for a technician. The customer service person said there would be no charge since it was not my fault. After two missed appointments the technician finally showed up. He was a very nice young gentleman who looked over my installation of my equipment and said I did a good job. The problem was the box was defective. It was not registered to my account.
The technician went to his vehicle and got a different box. He hooked it up, registered it to my account and it worked beautifully. He explained to me that the cable box that was originally sent out to me was defective. It had never been registered to my account. He apologized multiple times and left.
I just opened my newest bill from Comcast. To my surprise I had a $50 charge that says failed video S I K. I immediately called Comcast customer service. After speaking to one customer service rep And explaining the whole situation, she offered me one month free premium channel. I reminded her that this $50 charge was unfair since it was not my fault due to a bad installation. The problem was that Comcast sent me a defective cable box. She said she could not do anything for me and the $50 charge would remain on my bill and need to be paid as soon as possible. So I asked to speak to her supervisor.
The supervisor listened to the entire story about my defective cable box. He seemed very uninterested in the problem and simply stated that Bill will remain the same. He told me, "You'll need to pay the $50 as I'm not going to take it off your bill." I let him know that this was very unfair. And it felt a little bit like a scam to get money out of customers who are stuck. He was basically Unconcerned and pretty rude about the problem and let me know I had no alternatives.
So here I am...one more unhappy Comcast customer complaining about what has happened so many others. I just feel it's a real injustice for them to hit me with a $50 charge when it wasn't my problem to start with. They sent me defective equipment. I was never given the option just to mail back the cable box and receive a new one. They also never mentioned a $50 charge for the technician to come out to my home.
I don't know what else to do. Most companies, when you call customer service, they can understand the logic of a problem like this and they address it because they care about their reputation in the community. It's sad that this Company has become calloused to the needs of the customer.
I wish someone from Comcast would help me, as I love the high speed internet........

BT Infinity Self Install

I am going to be ordering FTTC after the new year as my cabinet just went live today!!
I have read elsewhere that with the Homehub 5 BT are going to roll out self installs (ie Engineer only vists cabinet not your house). Has anyone heard when this is likely to happen. I already have a filtered face plate fitted so this would be the ideal option for me.

X1 self install epxerience

I ordered the X1 self install kit to replace my "Any Room" DVR box and two satellite boxes. Here are my experiences: -I recieved the new equipment withing 5 business days. It was nicely packaged, and has alot of documentation with each box. Make sure you keep the "Account Card" handy. It has your account number and phone number on it. -All new boxes have new power supplies. It's a shame if you already "neatly tucked away" your existing power supplies in "cable managers, etc". You'll have to "unbundle" all the cords, etc and then "rebundle" them to get them organized and out of sight. -Don't follow the "hook up" instructions. They'll lead you believe that you hook up the power and your TV cables first, and then later on hook up the cable connection. It won't work. Hook up everything first and then wait for the activation screen. It'll take a few minutes for the "activation screen" to show up. Use the remote and the info on the card to enter your account number and phone number. If you don't get a TV show displayed within a few minutes, call Comcast Immediately. They messed up and didn't remove my old equipment from my account and I couldn't activate the new equipment until this was done, and they sent "refresh" signals to my new boxes. This'll take some time--for me it was about 30 minutes. -Once you get the first TV show displayed (above), you IMMEDIATELY NEED TO SET UP YOUR REMOTE!!! If you don't (as I didn't), you'll get an annoying screen that says a channel is free, etc along with a cryptic key symbol. Why the screen doesn't say, "SET UP/PAIR YOUR REMOTE NOW" is a mystery to me!!! The Comcast tech I called was "clueless" about what the problem might be. He wasted about 45 minutes of my time. I finally figured aout the problem and had to tell him the solution!!!! -After you set up the DVR box and begin to install the satellite boxes, you'll have to set up the remote for each satellite box too. I live in a large house and every time I set up the remote for a satellite box, the signal from satellite's remote went thru the walls to my main DVR box. I had to set up my DVR's remote each time. It only took about 30 seconds, but was alarming at first. This should be documented in the materials that are sent. -You'll see some features missing on your new equipment/system as compared to the old equipment. The new equipment doesn't let you SET A REMINDER for an upcoming show. Don't bother to look for it. When you are "Paging", there is no "WRAP" feature. Once you go "all the way to the top of program listings, you'll have to start paging all the way in the opposite direction. This is a "PAIN". When you view the program listings, the "font size" is smaller and hard to read. Make sure you look at the "program/channel" information at the right lower portion of the screen. It's much easier to read but should be displayed in a "brighter" mode to catch your attention. -I have all my old equipment boxed up and applied the "pre-paid" UPS sitcker to the box. I'll be dropping it off at my local UPS office tommorow. I wish I could have called UPS for a pick up at my home. I have my "fingers crossed" that the old equipment will be removed from my account immediately and that I won't end up being billed for both the new and old equipment. I've had this happen to me many times before, and it's a real pain to get corrected!!! -Overall, some "Tweaks" are are certainly needed. I've only used the new equipment for a couple of days, and it can be a great way to watch TV. I hope this helps anybody that is new to "X1". Jim

Regarding double billing...my old equipment return date on the bill was the date I received the new equipment, even though I also sent it back UPS. I'm going to give comcast the benefit of the doubt that this was deliberate on their part. I was not billed for any overlap.
I agree that the equipment card is key. Also, use the phone number on the card. Comcast had my TP number listed, but I used my landline. My mistake ruined what would have have been a flawless install.

HT200189 Updated 10.9.1 but will not allow me to install VPN Update

Updated OS X to to v. 10.9.1 and restarted computer twice, but will not allow me to select a destination for VPN Update for OS X Server software; error says "VPN Update for OS Server can't be installed on this disk (MacIntosh HD). This volume does not meet requirements for this update.
I also updated OS X Server from the App Store to latest 3.0.1. and still does not allow me to install the VPN update.

Some PDFs not working in Preview. Mac created PDFS work but windows created PDFS dont

Some PDFs not working in Preview. I installed adobe reader and then deleted it because the software was aweful and PDFs have been haveing issues ever since. I can open up PDFs created on my Mac in preview just fine...
But when I try and open a PDF created on a windows computer it says:

I am not sure why where the PDF was created would make a difference but couldnt help but notice that was the difference between the PDF files that work and the ones that give that message. I can view the PDFs on a windows computer just fine and never had issues untill adobe, it seems to have messed up PDFs on my Mac and I am so frustrated with them. I have searched my computer for any remaining adobe files, deleted them and restarted my computer but I am still getting this message.

Uninstall Adobe Reader's plug-in.
Remove the following two files from /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/:
AdobePDFViewer.plugin
AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin
Open Safari Preferences > Extensions. Do you see AdobePDFViewer? If yes. disable.
Log out/in and test.
Another option is to download and install this plugin. Schubert|it PDF Browser Plugin . PDF Browser Plugin 2 is free for not-for-profit activities if used at home or at educational institutions.

Recovery Manager not present and cannot install it

I am working on a friend's computer as a favor as he knows nothing about computers. I know some, but not much/enough about HP's. Windows failed so I entered Recovery Manager (f11) and made a backup image ( it had never been done on this computer) to a USB, Sony 32 gb. When I tried to boot from the USB during system recovery it would not boot. I tried changing BIOS settings removing protected boot and switching to legacy boot device, but it still would not boot. So I had downloaded a Win 8 install ios, burnt it to a DVD. It installed Win 8.1 fine, but it did not allow me back into Recovery Manager. I tired to use the Restore System but it still did not boot from the USB. Recovery Manager does not run. The restore partition is intact on the hard drive, so I have been trying to reinstall Recovery Manager with Windows running from RM/Tools/Rita-Tools/HPRecovery.exe. It will not finish installing RM. So I tried to install it from SW setup/RM4Win/installer.msi, but gives me "a script for this install to complete could not run. Contact your support or package vendor." Another time I tried it said the path was incorrect. I even tried copying the recovery image from the USB to the RM folder on the recovery partition but that gives me an incorrect path message too. I tried to find a file suggested on C;\Program files (x86)/Hewlett-Packard/HPRecovery Manager/Rebecca.exe but it is not there. I read that some USB's are not compatable but it did not giv e a compete list, only a few examples. Don't know where to find that list so I can buy another USB and copy the image over to it. Please, anyone, who actually with some indepth experience, would you help? I don't have much hair left from pulling it out.

WHen you get trouble with msi files you usually need the Microsoft Installer cleanup utility.
Here is a method for removal of iTunes and related programs with clean up and reinstall.
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)

Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program. The installer doesn't give any message to confirm the installation.

Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:

Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
If you don’t see an entry for one of the programs that did not uninstall, look out for blank entries or numeric entries that look like version numbers e.g. 7.x for Quicktime or 1.x for Bonjour.
restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
If it does, install iTunes.

When I try to download the newest version of FF I get a message that says I do not have permission to install it. Help!

I attempted to down load the 5 and 6 version at separate times. Both times I got an error message that stated I did not have permission to install the program. I own the computer and am the sole user. I am working on a Macbook Air. I have never encountered this issue before when updating Firefox. I am presently using the 3.5.6 edition and some of my sites are not supporting that edition anymore. Can you tell me what this error message means? I also have not been receiving the update messages for the new editions of Firefox.

If you have problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop

* Install the new version that you have downloaded

Disc Burner. Why are some files not readable or writeable?

I am trying to backup my friends computer files on a beige G3 (233 MHz). I am burning about 6 DVDs of AIF music files. Most of the files are about 30 - 40 Megs in size. Often I receive error messages on particular files that read:
"The operation cannot be completed because some data cannot be read or written.
(Error code - 36)"
Followed by the choices: "Stop" or "Continue".
I have a bad feeling that my startup disk is too small but I am not sure.
Most of the files work fine. However some of the files cause disc burner to not be able to use them in the disc image before I burn. Why would this be?
Here are the specifications:
Computer: beige G3 with two hard drives (one SCSI and one ATA hard drive) and a Pioneer DVR-110D DVD writer which is Apple supported (Apple system profiler indicates Apple supported on this DVD writer). My blank DVD disks are Sony Vermatim DVD-R (1 - 16x speed support). Although I think my beige G3 only writes them at about 2 or 4x.
I am using OS 10.1.5. My startup disk which has OS 10.1.5 in it is a 4 GIG SCSI disk. Is this big enough for a startup disk (for creating 4.5 GIG DVDs)? My files are on the second hard drive which is a 40 GIG ATA disk.
I have a bad feeling that my OSX startup drive is too small for disk burning - it is only 4 GIGs in total and OSX Disc burner (Disc copy) is first making a disk image on my startup volume before it burns it. Perhaps that disk image is too large for the startup volume. Is there any way I could ask OSX to put this disk image on the second larger hard drive instead (not the startup drive?).
Here is my process (I hope I am doing this right - I am new at this):
1. I first insert a blank DVD-R
2. A message pops up asking my if I would like to create a blank disc image for this disk (I think this is the typical Disk Copy utility window. I say "yes" and give it a name and choose the "DVD-R or DVD-RAM" option. (I am not sure if there are other important settings to choose here or better settings to use but I guessed the other options that seemed obvious. A blank disk image is created with an icon that looks like a DVD disk.
3. Then I drag my chosen files to this blank disc image. It takes about 30 minutes to copy over. Thats when I receive the error message that some files couldn't be "read or written". The other files work fine but it would be nice if they all worked.
Why would some files not be readable or writeable?
4. Then I choose file/burn in the top menu and the DVD is created. This takes another 20 - 30 minutes. At the very end of the process another message pops up saying:
"Sorry the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occured (error code -28)" Followed by an "OK" button.
However all the files that made it onto the final DVD are fine - its just that its not all of the ones I originally chose in the first step when dragging to create the disk image.
Am I doing this the right way?
Why are some files not "readable or writeable" as it indicates in the error message?
Is my 4 GIG startup disk too small for this? or are the music files possibly corrupt? or could there be some other possible problem?

To follow up, I have some good news. After following your advice Kappy, it now works very well Thanks! Instead of using the 4 GIG volume for the OS, I am now using an 8 GIG partition on an 80 GIG drive. So now the OS has some room to operate. No disk errors occured on my first DVD
Now there was one problem. The second DVD burned gave me an error. I am not sure why but I am going to guess that because I had to installed the OS onto an 8 GIG partition maybe the OS needs to be rebooted in between disk burns because although 8 GIGs is certainly greater than the 4 GIGs I gave it last time, it still isn't a lot of space - maybe just enough to do one DVD at a time. Thats only a guess. So I rebooted to see if that clears the system out ready for the next DVD and I am trying to burn the second DVD again. If I remember I will report back. In any case, yes, this seems to be working. I hope this second DVD burns well too.

Vista 32 - ipod not recognized, failed to install drivers, disconnecting

Hi to all,
I have experienced a problem with my brand new Ipod classic 80GB and was flustrated by it. It took me some time ro research internet to find a fix for this problem and i would like to share it with you to have it at one place. If such article exists here i appologize, i did not find it myself.
_The problem:_
Ipod in Windows Vista 32 *cannot find/install drivers*. Ipod shows up for couple of seconds and then *automaticaly disconnects*.
Solution:

Can you be specific as to what drivers are not installing? An issue that can be had when doing PNPEnum is that child devices of something that does not have a driver installed are not visible to the PNPEnum. A way to get around that is you can force the
injection of drivers that are not getting installed. Something like you can add a second Inject Driver step but, have it be a selection profile of drivers that always get missed because they are children.
