Something behind the screen.

Hi,
I was unfortunate enough to have a small insect find its way inside my new Sony LCD screen a year back, which resulted in a smal black dot on my screen.
I cant beleive it, on my mac bok pro which ove only had a week, theres a small dot of something behind the screen like i had with the insect! To the eye it looks like a dead pixel, however when observed with a material magnifying glass, it is isnt a dead pixel, its something behind the screen, about the size of a 2 pixels.
I cant believe my luck, a week!
James

I have something similar on a MacBook Pro 15-inch with the new LED backlit screen. At first, I thought it was dead pixels, but upon closer examination, it appears to be something (a dark spot) BEHIND the surface of the display. Any suggestions on how to get rid of it?

  • Dust/Dirt/Dark patch behind the screen?!

    I am certain that this has appeared today, and seems to be a small dark patch of something behind the screen. It is not a dead or stuck pixel but a small dark patch almost in the centre of the screen.
    I have tried cleaning the screen with the provided cloth and a small amount of water but it does seem to be behind it, I just don't understand how!

    Time Machine will create a complete backup, but you can't boot from TM. For instance, so your drive crashes. You can attach an external FW drive and boot from that. I know you used to not be able to boot from a USB drive, but I don't know if Apple changed that. I would check that out. If you can boot from a USB drive, then you're all set. Otherwise, you'd need a FW interface, found on most enclosures.
    You can use Super Duper! without paying first, but you don't get the scheduling option. You can do everything else.
    For the external drive, use Disk Utilty, select your external disk, Choose partition, choose 1 partition (if you want one), select Options, and choose GUID partition table. Then click apply. It has to be GUID to boot with Intel Macs.
    So say you get your computer back wiped. You boot from your external drive, launch Super Duper, then copy the clone back to your internal drive, and you are back to where you left off. No loss of data. I've used SuperDuper! for a couple years now and it's saved my life a couple times.

  • Dust Behind the Screen

    Hi I have the 2006 Intel 20in iMAC, and I have Dust particles that got behind the screen, Let me see if I can explain this well enough, They are behind the screen, and it looks as if something is On the screen, like a Smudge, but really if you look close it's behind the display like in between the screen and the backlight, is there a Way to take it apart and clean it ?? I've taken this iMAC apart many time's to dust it out, and to change my Hard Drive, so I know what I'm doing when it comes to taking it apart, I just wanted to see if anyone else had this problem, I tend to carry the Computer with me allot, in my iLUGGER Carrying case, so I'm assuming that's how the Dust gets In-Between the screen. Just wanted to know if there is any Take-Apart Tutorials just for the screen itself ? Or if one of those Can's of AIR would somehow get it out ?

    I believe your only option will be to get Apple to replace the screen for you, which won't be cheap.  If the machine is still covered under warranty, you could try to push the case that the screen must be defective for a bug to get in there.  Apple has been known to do free out-of-warranty service in some pretty unbelievable circumstances, that that is at their discretion, so be very pleasant and polite so they'll like you and want to help you out.    But be prepared to have to pay for the repair.
    Good luck!

    You should take it to an Apple store or an AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) Carefully inspect the hinge joint and make sure there is no debris that you can see, you can try carefully sliding some sticky tape thru the joint to clear any loose stuff out. But this sounds like there might be more going on here, and the hinge is something that you do not want to fool with.

    When pulling down a long pulldown menu, the menu, instead of starting a new row, will extend past the bottom and behind the browser so that I can't navigate to an item that's below/behind the screen. FF should be making a second row for these long pulldown menus, right?

    Nope, there is no second row. There should be a scroll arrow "button" at the bottom and the top of that drop-down to allow you scroll, or you can use the scroll wheel on the mouse scroll further down (or back up).

    Try to reset your device:
    Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
    1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
    2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
    3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.

  • Pearl has dust behind the screen

    I dont know how it happened, but my pearl has dust behind the screen. Does anyone
    know how to remove the screen so I can clean it.
    Thanks,
    Joe

    Joe, If the phone is out of warrantee and/or do don't want to go through the enormous hassle of replacing your blackberry there is another alternative. I have done this several times myself but I would recommend that you be mechanically inclined. Although the surgery is very easy some blackberry models have retention clips that need to be pushed aside with a very smal screw driver like one you would buy for repairing sunglasses etc. I do not have a pearl so I am not much help giving you specifics about that particular phone..
    Go to ebay and look for cellular phone repair tools. There are dozens of sellers, just look for a Torx kit. Inside the battery compartment you will find four torx screws that you will need to remove. Once they are removed the back of the phone pops off. Depending on your model the phones sometimes come apart in layers (like the 8700). So after the first layer you may need to remove more torx screws to get inside to the screen. Be careful when splitting the phone apart as small pieces will be loose inside like the volume and push to talk buttons. You will need to careful put these back in place when re-assembling the phone. Once the phone is split apart you should easily be able to clean the screen and the inside from dust. Just use an old tooth brush.
    Although this whole procedure is not overly difficult for me, it is not for everyone. So please proceed with caution and under your own risk.
    On another note this is the same procedure if your phone ever get water damage. I have a neighbor that thought it was hilarious to throw people into the pool during a drunkin haze (thankfully he stopped drinking...). Twice he did it to me with my phone still firmly attached to my waist. After doing a terrific impression of a Marlin trying to shake a fisherman's hook my phone still had water pouring from it and vibrating like crazy. I immediately took out the battery and took the phone completely apart. I then set all the parts EXCEPT THE LCD and the CLEAR PLASTIC WINDOW on a cookie sheet.  All you are trying to do is dry the electronics. Cell phones are all rated for fairly high temperatures  in case you were to leave it in the car on a hot summer afternoon. I then set the oven to preheat at 150 degrees. Once it was preheated I turned the oven off and let sit for a minute with the door cracked. Then I put the cookie sheet into the oven and closed the door. I let it sit until the oven had completely cooled down. Re-assembled the phone and presto it worked just fine until the next time he threw me in. If you want to be completely safe you can put the unassembled phone on your car dash which works as well. So long as there is little humidity and good amount of heat but not above 200 degrees.
    Good luck...

  • Screen is dirty behind the screen

    I've had my iMac for a little over a year. The other day I noticed that part of the screen looked dirty. I got some screen clean but I couldn't clean it. I believe the dirt is behind the screen. I have Apple Care. What should I do? It's hard to see ( that's why it took me so long to notice it). I can only see it when it is over a white screen. I don't know if I should take it to my local Apple store. I don't want to be without it for too long.
    Thanks.

    If you do a search in communities for "dirt inside screen, or dirt under screen, you will find others with the same problem.
    Some have said it's not dirt but the LCD that as a problem.
    Others confirmed it is some sort of dust.
    Call Apple, they will arrange a repair for you.
    And since you have Apple Care, you can get it repaired in your house if you live less then 50 miles from an Authorized Apple Service Provider.
    ATTENTION! Some have mentioned that Apple tried blaming this problem on a dirty or very dusty environment. You might have to insist on how clean your house is!

  • How do you get fontmetrics before displaying something on the screen?

    Let me ask in another way:
    how do you get fontmetrics before displaying something on the screen?
    Edited by: tjacobs01 on Aug 24, 2008 12:03 PM

    and you call getGraphics() it returns nullI learned to not use the getGraphics() method. Check out my posting here where I ask what the getGraphics() method is good for:
    [http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5233274&messageID=9954741|http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5233274&messageID=9954741]
    Also, c.getFontMetrics(c.getFont()) will be an NPE because Font is initially null.Maybe I don't understand the question. The following works for me:
    import javax.swing.*;
    public class Test
         public static void main(String args[])
              JTextField textField = new JTextField();
              System.out.println(textField.getFontMetrics(textField.getFont()));
    }Every question should have a SSCCE, so we don't have to guess.

  • Has anyone else had something slip behind the screen?

    First of all, I thought the displays were *at least* somewhat shielded, as to prevent little things from making their way behind/between the screen.
    Anyway, when I took my MBP out of my Timbuk2 commute bag, then out of it's Radtech Powersleev yesterday, I noticed a piece of hair on the screen. Now this is not unusual for most of us, and those of us who are anal dust off the screen or whatever to remove said debris. I attempted this, only to find that it was not coming off! I look closer and see that a piece of hair made it inside my display and dropped into its current position! How the heck? Gentle attempts to "shake" this piece of hair were unsuccessful, so I assume it'd have to be taken apart to be removed, or the screen replaced.
    Has anyone else had this kind of problem recently? Did Apple take care of it for you? I've never actually seen this firsthand, although a brief search through the internet brought forth varied results.

    This has happened too me with an eyelash and i took it too the apple store and they said tough luck....I hate my apple store here in Milwaukee they are a bunch of jerks...'m so tempted to take the 2 hour drive to Chicago to their apple store to get better service

  • Second monitor "hide" the programs behind the screen background.

    Hi!
    Updated my system a couple of days ago. When I rebooted, my second screen comes up as normal, except I can't get anything to show on that screen.
    The primary screen works as normal. The second screen shows the background and conky, but when I try to open anything on the screen, it opens, kind of behind the background. I can use the program, and drag it to the first screen. Then I see it. It's almost like the screen background covers it.

  • My brand new iMac (late 2012, 27") has a little scratch or something on the screen

    I just bought a new imac 27", later half hour of use I noticed it has a little scratch on the screen, not on the front glass but behind it. too strange to be some dead pixel. Someone can tell me what is? Do AppleCare cover this? If they do, has to be exchange the whole machine or just the display? here is some picture:

    It looks to me like a row of pixels but in any event you must return it within the 14 day period (or at least have a formally confirmed agreement that you will be doing this).   The latter applies if you live too far away from a suitable returns venue and it has to be returned by carrier.   Usually all carriage costs are covered.
