Something is wrong about passing xml document to clob

Dear All,
I have a procedure that uses XMLELEMENT to create an XML source. When I try to pass the XML source to the outgoing parameter of the procedure I receive an error saying
"ORA-19011: Character string buffer too small"
When I checked the length of the source it was just 5000 characters long. How is it possible that I can't give this to a clob?
Thank you,
Franky

I'm going to answer it for myself.
Use getclobval() function any you will succeed.

  • Very urgent help needed- Error while passing XML document to Oracle stored

    Hi !
    I have been struggling a lot to call Oracle 9i stored procedure passing Stringbuilder object type from ASP.NET
    I am using Visual Studio 2008 Professional, OS: Windows XP and Oracle: 9.2.0.1.0
    Following is the procedure:
    CREATE or REPLACE PROCEDURE loadCompanyInfo (clobxml IN clob) IS
    -- Declare a CLOB variable
    ciXML clob;
    BEGIN
    -- Store the Purchase Order XML in the CLOB variable
    ciXML := clobxml;
    -- Insert the Purchase Order XML into an XMLType column
    INSERT INTO companyinfotbl (companyinfo) VALUES (XMLTYPE(ciXML));
    commit;
    --Handle the exceptions
    EXCEPTION
    WHEN OTHERS THEN
    raise_application_error(-20101, 'Exception occurred in loadCompanyInfo procedure :'||SQLERRM);
    END loadCompanyInfo ;
    And following is the ASP.net code:
    StringBuilder b = new StringBuilder();
    b.Append("<?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"utf-8\" ?>");
    b.Append("<item>");
    b.Append("<price>500</price>");
    b.Append("<description>some item</description>");
    b.Append("<quantity>5</quantity>");
    b.Append("</item>");
    //Here you'll have the Xml as a string
    string myXmlString1 = b.ToString();
    //string result;
    using (OracleConnection objConn = new OracleConnection("Data Source=testdb; User ID=testuser; Password=pwd1"))
    OracleCommand objCmd = new OracleCommand();
    objCmd.Connection = objConn;
    objCmd.CommandText = "loadCompanyInfo";
    objCmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
    //OracleParameter pmyXmlString1 = new OracleParameter("pmyXmlString1", new OracleString(myXmlString1));
    objCmd.Parameters.Add("myXmlString1", OracleType.clob);
    objCmd.Parameters.Add(myXmlString1).Direction = ParameterDirection.Input;
    //objCmd.Parameters.Add("result", OracleType.VarChar).Direction = ParameterDirection.Output;
    try
    objConn.Open();
    objCmd.ExecuteNonQuery();
    catch (Exception ex)
    Label1.Text = "Exception: {0}" + ex.ToString();
    objConn.Close();
    When I am trying to execute it, I am getting the following error:
    Exception: {0}System.Data.OracleClient.OracleException: ORA-06550: line 1, column 7: PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'LOADCOMPANYINFO' ORA-06550: line 1, column 7: PL/SQL: Statement ignored at System.Data.OracleClient.OracleConnection.CheckError(OciErrorHandle errorHandle, Int32 rc) at System.Data.OracleClient.OracleCommand.Execute(OciStatementHandle statementHandle, CommandBehavior behavior, Boolean needRowid, OciRowidDescriptor& rowidDescriptor, ArrayList& resultParameterOrdinals) at System.Data.OracleClient.OracleCommand.ExecuteNonQueryInternal(Boolean needRowid, OciRowidDescriptor& rowidDescriptor) at System.Data.OracleClient.OracleCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() at Default.Button1Click(Object sender, EventArgs e)
    I understand from this that the .net type is not the correct one, but I am not sure how to correct it. I could not find any proper example in any documentation that I came across. Most of the examples give information on how to read but not how to insert XML into Oracle table by calling Stored Procedure.
    Can you please help me to solve this problem? I hope that you can help solve this.
    Also, can you please give me an example of passing XML document XMLdocument to Oracle Stored procedure.
    In both the cases, if you can provide the working code then it would be of great help.
    Thanks,

    Have you tried simply outputting iusing the htp.p function? for example:

       select doc_xml into lclb_output from mf_xml_docs where doc_id = :P1_DOC_ID;
       htp.p(lclb_output); -- you may have to split this into chunks and loop through, depending on how big the clob is

    Can be one of two problems.
    One
    Your database user does not have
    privileges to open a socket inside
    the database. This will prevent
    the XML parser running inside the DB
    from retrieving the DTD which it must
    do to properly parse the document.
    Two
    you are sitting behind a corporate
    firewall and need to properly set
    the Proxy Server host and port to
    properly retrieve the DTD.
    From looking at your code it would appear
    that your job can more easily be done by
    using the OracleXML putXML command line
    utility outside the database.
    You can specify the -D options to your
    JavaVM to set the System properties for
    the proxy server if need be like this:
    java -DproxySet=true -DproxyHost=yourproxyserver OracleXML putXML

  • MII BLS Trasaction calling SAP RFC call - How to pass XML document as input parameter

    Hi,
    1. I am very new to the SAP and SAP xMII workbench.
    I have a webpage with iGrid applet embedded on it. We have multiple rows in the iGrid applet that can be selected by user.
    After selecting single or multiple grid rows user clicking a 'button' on the web page.
    We are using iCommand applet (ExacuteQuery] to call the BLS transaction.
    Using iCommand applet on the webpage we are passing parameters to BLS Transaction.
    Would like to pass on the single/ multiple selected grid row values as a XML document to BLS Transaction variable which is an Input parameter for SAP RFC call.
    I am using SAP JCo Session to make the RFC call.
    Any pointers will be helpful.
    2. Which is a best track in SAP training courses to get formal training.
    Thanks,
    Senthil

    Hi Senthil,
    What version of MII (or xMII) are you working with?  There are some examples of this type of transaction in the wiki which you may want to download and take a look at.

  • Display XML Document from CLOB Column on page

    Hi,
    I have been reading all the CLOB postings that I can find, but I still cannot get my page to do what I want.
    I have a very simjple table:
    MF_XML_DOCS (DOC_ID NUMBER, DOC_XML CLOB)
    I can populate this table OK but I am having problems getting the cotent back out. I want a simple page that takes an ID Number and displays the XML Document for that ID (select doc_xml from mf_xml_docs where doc_id = :P1_DOC_ID). Everything I try either truncates the text (or errors) at 4000 or 32767 characters or reads the XML tags as tags and does not display them. I want a simple display of the XML Document (and I don't mind if it is in an 'updateable' field or not):
    <Parent>
       <name>Dad</name>
       <Children>
          <Child>
             <name>Number 1 Son</name>
         </Child>
          <Child>
             <name>Number 2 Son</name>
         </Child>
       </children>
    </Parent>But when I do something that works for large (32767+) documents all I see is 'Dad Number 1 Son Number 2 Son'.
    Help!!
    many thanks,

  • Something is wrong about the WRT54G2 v1.0 's Recent Firmware (v1.0.04)

    Hello there,
    I have a Linksys WRT54G2 v1.0 - as recommended most here in forums, the router's firmware should be updated for improved performance, but  I have a problem, when I updated my router to v1.0.04 firmware, my router always JAMS, either my router suddenly lose connectivity cannot be pinged, or the router's POWER LED always blinking, this was recently always happened when I updated the firmware unlike I use the older firmware before (v1.0.03 and below).
    I guess the v1.0.04 firmware has another bug was occured.
    Is there a link for an older firmware versions of WRT54G2 v1.0, I think I should downgrade my firmware to make it work properly as old times.
    THANK YOU.

    Yes, upgrading the router's firmware improve the performance.However if you are unable to upgrade through the Linksys GUI then use the TFTP utility to upgrade the firmware....Download 44.3 KB the tftp utility and save it on the dekstop
    Download 1.71 MB the firmware for WRT54G2 v2 and save it on the dekstop.
    Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
    Double click the TFTP.exe file and click run.
    For Server- Enter the IP Address of the router that you assigned.  By default, the router is 192.168.1.1...
    For Password- Enter the password you assigned the router. By default, the router’s password is “admin”.
    For File- Click the triple “…” button and browse for the .bin firmware file...
    Click Upgrade button to start upgrading.  A progress bar should show up to show the progress.
    Once the Upgrade is done press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • Passing XML file to CLOB argument 32KB ?

    Hi.
    I'm quite an Oracle noob. This is my very first question here in this form.
    I can successfully pass an XML file < 32KB to the p_xml_in parameter of my import package.
    My Import package also processes successfully the xml as supposed.
    Unfortunately passing an XML file >32KB causes this error:
    07-26-2012 09:30:31 ERR:-2147217900 - 'ORA-01460: unimplemented or unreasonable conversion requested' from foo bar my connectionthingi
    It is clear for me that ORA-01460 comes when the value in p_xml_in is to big.
    The question is: How can I transfer very big XML files (> 10MB) to my pakage ? (I thought CLOB can hold many TBs? )

  • Generate XML document

    Hi,
    My problem is about generating XML document. I'd like to be able to generate automaticaly (like what we can get at this kind of URL http://xdbserver:8080/oradb/USER/table_name) XML documents for any relational tables, I want the document being schema based and I want to store them in XDB in the repository.
    I do not really matter at the time the way the xml is generated (I just do not want that it takes hours). Is there a way to do that with PL/SQL package or with a java classes?
    Thanks in advance.
    Vlad

    1)I'm using this PL/SQL proc to create XML :
    (table_name in VARCHAR2)as --generation d'un fichier xml basé sur un schéma pour la table dont le nom est passé en paramètre
    qryCtx DBMS_XMLGEN.ctxHandle;
    result XMLType;
    begin
    qryCtx := dbms_xmlgen.newContext('SELECT * from VLAD.' || table_name);
    -- set the row header to be EMPLOYEE
    DBMS_XMLGEN.setRowTag(qryCtx, table_name);
    -- now get the result
    result := DBMS_XMLGEN.getXMLType(qryCtx,2); --2 for XMLSchema (1 for a DTD)
    --insertion de result dans la table tempo
    insert into tempo values(result);
    --close context
    DBMS_XMLGEN.closeContext(qryCtx);
    exception
    when others then
    dbms_output.put_line(TO_CHAR(sqlerrm));
    end;
    I saw in the doc that DBMS_XMLGEN.getXMLType(qryCtx,2) with the "2" was for schema but what does it do exactly, does it generate a schema against the table_name?
    2)I'd like to put the result which is XMLType in a XML file in the server, is there a way to do it with UTL FILE?

  • Parse XML document which have xlink/xpointer inside

    dear friends,
    There are lots of topic talking about parse xml, validating xml with schema and so on, but no one or any book talking about parsing xml document which can parse document with link inside.
    According to Mr Meggison at http://www.megginson.com/Background/
    we can do it, but he is not expert with this thing.
    For example I have 3 XML document. My main XML document, let named it A.XML have XPointer inside and this element pointing to B.XML and C.XML using xpointer. how to parse A.XML and in the same time my SAX recognized this XPointer and parse also element inside B.XML and C.XML.
    I am really grateull for any helpful information from you.
    best regards

    I think you need to look for a SAX or DOM parser that undestands XPointers and knows how to follow them to additional content.
    I have used XSLT and specified external documents to it. It knows how to read a document and in effect make a nodeset which can be searched with the XPath capabilities of XSLT.
    It sounds like you wnat an <include file="xxx"/> capability and have the parser stop reading the current file, and start reading the second file.
    That works in Schemas, but I'm unaware of any way to do it with SAX or DOM in one pass.
    It would not be too hard to process the first file, say with DOM.
    After the Document is built, go find the <include> elements, read get the attribute needed, build a new Document and merge it into the original Document in place of the <include> element.
    Is this more what you want to do?

  • Mapping XML documents in Oracle

    I am a newbie in Oracle.
    I would like to know how to store entire XML documents in CLOBS.
    Since yesterday I hear about XSQL, and I was wondering if nobody had some sample code to realize this mapping.
    Thanks in advance for your help

    OTN has some sample apps that might interest you:

  • Preload an xml document

    Hi!
    I've managed to preload an image with getBytes.../...total
    properties but what about my XML document. Can I get statusinfo
    while it loads into FlashPlayer?!?
    PS I'm publishing to AS2.
    Thanks

    <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Sudip Karnavat ([email protected]):
    I need to parse an XML document consisting of metadata and actual content and load the same into database columns with the body content into a CLOB.
    e.g.
    <AUTHOR> Mike <AUTHOR>
    <HEADLINE> About XML </HEADLINE>
    <DOCUMENT>
    This document outlines the details of the XML parser for PL/SQL .........
    </DOCUMENT>
    I need to load the author and headline fields to author and headline fields in the database and DOCUMENT field to a CLOB column.
    What approach should I follow? Should I use the XML Parser for PL/SQL ? Are there any sample examples.
    Thanks

    Sudip,
    I forgot to add that really what you need to
    do is write a transformation using XSLT and
    only pick the information you need to store.
    If you want just e-mail me the xml file and I
    will do that-:)
