When I text random people that are in my contacts their reply will come back as just their phone number.

I am having the same problem, thought it was because I put in all of my contacts with 7 digit phone#s. changed all to 10 digit , seemed to help for a while. I'll let you know if I find anything

To fix this, you need to stop sharing the same iCloud account, and stop using the same Apple ID for iMessage and FaceTime.
One of you needs to migrate their device to a new iCloud account. To do this, start by saving any photo stream photos you wish to keep to your camera roll (unless already there) by opening your my photo stream album, tapping Select, tapping the photos, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow, then tapping Save to Camera Roll. If you are syncing notes with iCloud, you'll need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself so you can later copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account (which only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud; the person keeping the account won't be effected by this), choose Keep on My iDevice and provide the password to turn off Find My iPhone. Then sign back in with a different Apple ID to create your new account and choose Merge to upload your data. Once you are on separate iCloud accounts, you can each go to icloud.com and delete the other person's data from your account.
Then go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, and sign back in with the new iCloud ID. Finally, do the same thing in Settings>FaceTime. This will prevent you from getting each other's text messages and FaceTime calls.

After downloading iOS 7 on the 4s when I iMessage people my Apple ID comes up instead of my contact and when they text my contact it comes to my phone as a text message???( my data is on)) plzzzzz helpppp

Thanks for the question. It sounds like your phone number may not be checked in Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. This usually occurs when the phone number is waiting to be activated with iMessage. It should take no longer than 24 hours, and may resolve on its own.

My entire phone got hacked and now I believe there is a cloned phone number who is texting my contacts....very bad things and I don't know what to do....get a new phone? New number?

Within the last few months I have gotten several snap shots of conversations from friends that showed it was my phone number but the conversation was not from me. It was someone using my information but texting frieda, family, and some co workers very obscene things. But the person was using completely juvenile context and I don't do that at all with my texts. The worst part was it began becoming such a huge issue when the cloned number or whatever was texting guys stuff and I wasn't the actual person texting. I got no responses to my phone but I had some very confused friends and even at one point my boyfriend got texts from my number when I was literally sitting next to him and my phone was on the coffee table. Anyone have any ideas on what I need to do. I have reset my phone, deleted everything off of it, reset passwords, I don't use location services but I am still having people getting crude messages. It's to the point now that my very own friends don't talk to me through text or my personal email because they don't know if it is truly me. Please help!

Your phone is not hacked however your sim card probably IS cloned.

How can I see a contact's entire phone number when iphone has large text?

I changed the font on my mom's iphone 5 to a larger size (but not the largest available) so it's easier to read. However, now when trying to view one of her contact's phone numbers, the number cuts off at seven digits and follows with dots, for example "(123) 456-7..."
Perhaps it's a silly question, but how can I view the entire number without reducing the font size? When I try to select the number it dials the contact. I wouldn't want to cut and paste, or copy it every time just to see the entire number. Any help would be much appreciated!!!!!

The contact in which the photo does appear (along with the contact's name as well) is one that I added myself. I have photos added for many of the people in my Contact List, but neither their photo nor their name appears to me whenever they call or text me.
I know how to add a photo to a contact's information within my Contact List. I need to know how I can make that photo (or even the contact's name) appear whenever I have an incoming call/text from them. What I am seeing is just their phone number, and I do not know everyone's phone number well enough to recognize from whom I am getting a call/text. You need to link your iPhone number to Messages - and Facetime if you use it. For Messages go to Settings>Messages>Send and Receive at>You can be reached by iMessage at. If your phone number is showing there, select it as your Contact address. If it doesn't appear in there, take a look at the end of this article for help.

Second phone number for a contact wont appear as an option for text messaging on iPhone 4/IOS6

My iPhone 4 (IOS6) is a work phone and my number is blocked (I have to call a lot of people while out of the office who I don't want to have my cell number). Since I want my friends to know it is me when I call I save their phone number in my contact list with *82 in front of their number. However, I learned that text messaging doesn't seem to work with *82 in front of the number so I also have each contact saved as a second number without the *82 at the beginning for texting only. After "upgrading" to IOS6 I have found that my texting number won't show up when I type the contact name into the address bar in the text message app, just the *82 number that won't work. It used to list all numbers associated with that contact. I know I could just send them a message from the contact card one time and then just open the thread in the messaging app every time after that, but since I am often driving when I am out of the office I use Dragon dictation to compose my texts and then only have to type the contact name into the address line each time instead of typing an entire message. Long story short, I really need it to list all numbers for each contact and not only the one they randomly decide I might want. I have also checked my contacts and ensured that the non-*82 number is listed first in the contact card, that didn't change anything.

There is an option in the Settings>General>Reset>Reset Home Screen Layout. Of course this means that your screen layout will be reset but maybe this will 'bump' those hidden apps out of the 'invisible 5th row'. It's worth a try I guess. Did you check to make sure the apps weren't pushed to like the very last screen instead?

I had thought about this, but it seems other people have already chosen the screen name "pinksharkmark" and virtually every variation of it I can think of. So that isn't an option for me. As for getting it to display something else as well, do you mean that if I were to get an AIM screen name like "CromulentCat" I could somehow log in to iChat under the AIM account "CromulentCat" yet get iChat to represent me to my Buddies as "PinkSharkMark"? Because I have to admit I don't see how that can be done. It appears as if iChat displays to anyone chatting with you precisely the account name you logged in under and nothing else. So if you logged in using a .Mac account, then you are displayed as "[email protected]" while if you logged in under an AIM account, you are displayed as "CromulentCat". But that's it that's all... there is no way to change CromulentCat to PinkSharkMark.

I have done that to no avail. Any ideas?

I had the same issue with the iPhone 6 and tried everything! I now understand that at some point I stored a number for a contact without including the area code and sent a text message. So, to correct the issue, you must literally "erase" all references to the contact, not just the number. Deleting the contact and entering a new one is not enough because the iPhone stores references to that number in multiple places. The steps below worked and are very simple:
1) On the contact screen, delete everything stored for that number. You can't just edit the contact to fix the problem, so write down or record the info somewhere before you complete this step. Choose edit and then select DELETE to eliminate the entire contact which means home, work, cell, email address, etc.
2) Delete the entire string of messages you sent to that number. That's every single message...
3) Now delete the entire string of invalid 2114 messages you received after your text(s) failed.
4) Finaly, remove the contact from FAVORITES if you saved it that way.
5) To validate that all this worked, simply go to the keypad or contact screen and enter the number associated with the contact to verify successful removal. I used the keypad and dialed to confirm. If the contact number still shows up, you need to go back and recheck your steps. Trust me, I had to do this a few times.
Several posts suggested that you should reset and turn off your phone. After following these steps, it was not necessary for me to reset or turn off my device.
is there a much faster way to achieve the same results? Probably, but this was safe for an iPhone novice and may help you avoid inadvertently deleting other contacts or replacing factory settings that you need.

I recently bought a new iphone 4s two weeks ago. with the last two day's people cannot get throught to me, Even do i have full reception on the vodafone ireland network it says my phone is powered off. Also when someone does eventually get throught to me there number comes up "unknown" even do its saved in my contacts and there name used to show up. You shouldn't be charged if it's a hardware issue, it is under warranty for one year. As stated above, out sounds like something you installed like a messaging app. Keep in mind that not all applications in the market are safe. Factory reset and try again. If that doesn't help, go into a dealer and demand a replacement.

I have this identical problem. For a while my group texts didnt show up on my ipad. Then one day they did, maybe everyone in the group started using the same os version or something. Ever since my first reply to the group there have been complaints of multiple threads. I can not find a pattern for when my group text's decide they want to create a new thread. (it doesnt happen every time) Everyone in the group has deleted the thread, we've all toggled imessage on/off etc. There still hasn't been a solution.
