Sony HDR-CX700 stopped downloading to FCPX

I recently got a new MacBook Pro running Lion 10.7.2 I installed FCPX from the app store I also got a sony HDR-CX700 at the same time.  I used and dowloaded movies directly to FCPX from the camera numerous times.  Yesterday night when I tried to download more video FCPX does not see the camera.
I also took some still pictures using the Sony.
When I attached the Camera iPhoto opened automatically, something that did not happen before I used iPhoto to import the still images.
Anyone know what might have happend? What setting might have changed? As far as I know I did not change any settings on my computer or camera that would cause this to happen.
iMove also does not see the video.
the hard drive icon for the camera does show on the desktop.
thanks for your help.

Click open archive and point FCP to the disk that's mounted on the computer. Does it see it then? Do not go inside the disk, simply point it at the top level of the disk.

  • Sony HDR-XR 150 E  and FCPX, problems in importing

This question has been raised in the iMovie forums without satisfactory answers. Is FCPX in anyway better than  iMovie in this aspect? I would like to hear from Sony HDR-XR 150 E users who have taken up editing in FCPX to kindly let me know how they are importing HD files into their hard drives.

Ok, What I managed to find is
    Source file
    AVCHD Video (MTS)
    Length - 0:00:22
    Frame width - 1440
    Frame Height - 1080
    Data rate - 11699kbps
    Total bitrate - 11955 kbps
    Frame rate - 25 frames per s
    Exported file
    H.264, 1440 x 1080 (1920 x 1080)
    AAC, 48000 Hz, Stereo (L R)
    Current size  - 1408 × 792
    Data rate - 10.33 Mbit/s
    FPS - 25
    Clip specs in FCP
    1440x1080 / 25i
    Codecs - AC3, H.264
Video field dominance - Upper First
    Orientation - No value
I attached two screenshots of the blurred parts of clip
I also now realised that this featre of chopped and blurred video is already in the imported clip in FCP. So FCP makes the file some kind corrupted thruogh importing

Can I use FCPX for Sony HDR-XR520?

You probably can but the best way to be sure is to download the free 30 day trial of FCP X and see how it goes.

  • I have a sony HDR-SR5 camcorder and need to empty the iternal hard-drive. I have downloaded onto Picture Motion Browser and woud like to know if this will have stored all of the data on the hard-drive so can go back and edit later.

I have a Sony HDR-SR5 camcorder with a 40GB internal hard-drive. I need to clear the hard-drive as it's almost full. I have managed to download the footage onto Picture Motion Browser, but am wondering whether PMB will have stored all the info from the camcorder hard-drive so that I can edit later.
Also, I would like to back-up on another hard-drive, but when I have tried this I can't view the footage stored on the hard-drive so am not sure whether I have backed up sufficiently and in what format? If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd be very grateful...

    >I have managed to download the footage onto Picture Motion Browser
Isn't Picture Motion Browser available for Windows only?  If so, why are you posting in an Final Cut Express forum?  My apologies if I'm incorrect.

You shouldn't need any application except what you already have: iMovie, iDVD, iPhoto....
To check on compatibility with your model camcorder, check these out:

Some formats are not readable by the above; you can use something like MPEG Streamclip to convert the footage or Quicktime Pro (as mentioned in one of the articles).

Looking up your camera online, I found it is capable of 1920 x 1080 Full HD 60p Recording. It's the 60p (60 frames per second Progressive) that's the problem I think. iMovie '11 will do 60i (Interlaced). You might need to convert it from the format the camera currently uses into another format to get it into iMovie. Read more about it on this link here: How to import 60p footage From that message thread comes the recommendation to use ClipWrap to convert the camera's video clips now that they are in 60p:

Use ClipWrap to rewrap to QuickTime. Import the files. Edit in either 59.94 or 29.97. The latter if you want to use the high frame rate for slomo

  • I cannot download pictures and videos from HDR-CX700 camcorder to windows 8.1 laptop

HiI am trying to download the pictures and videos from the HDR-CX700 camcoder to a windows 8.1 laptop, I get a sound but noting happens.Bernard

    Hi soincabf,
Could you tell more about what happens when the camcorder is connected to the computer? Is it being recognized by the computer itself? What software are you using to import your files? Have you tried using other computers?
When the camcorder is turned on and connected properly to the computer, the LCD display of the camera should display USB connected. Please make sure that the USB connect setting of the camera is set to MTP/PTP. We recommend using the PlayMemories Home software for easier import and editing of pictures and videos.
But if the computer doesn't recognized the camera, we suggest trying other USB ports of the computer and disconnect any devices, aside from the keyboard and mouse, from the PC. We'd also suggest trying i on other computers. If it doesn't have any issues connecting to other devices. Then we suggest contacting your computer manufacturer for further assistance.
If my post answers your question, please mark it as "Accept as Solution". Thanks_Mitch

  • Sony hdr cx7 download

I just bought a new Sony HDR CX7 handycam. I am having a hard time getting the footage off my memory stick and onto iMovie. Please help.

1.- Create an image file (name.dmg).
2.- Copy all your contents from the Memory Stick to your new image file.
    3.- Close your image.
    4.- Open iMovie '08.
5.- Open the image file with the Memory Stick contents
6.- iMovie should detect automatically the video.
Hope it works, it works for me.
You can do it directly from the camera also. But I prefer the image file method.
    1.- Open iMovie '08.
2.- Connect the camera to the Mac.
    3.- Turn on the camera.
4.- Open the display. It should show a message asking to connect through USB.
    5.- Accept the connection.
6.- iMovie '08 should detect the movies stored in the camera an it would let you import them.
    Good luck...

  • Will my sony HDR-TD10 work with FCPX

will my sony HDR-TD10 work with FCPX

    Probably.
"iMovie supports standard and high definition video, as well as the most popular formats, including DV, HDV, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and even AVCHD."
    microMV is recording in MPEG-2.
Bring your camera to your Apple dealer and try it out.

  • Capture HD video in Final Cut Express with a Sony HDR-FX7

When try to capture a video from my new Sony HDR-FX7 using the HD Format Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60 the preview screen never shows the video being captured. In fact the video is never captured. Any suggestions to how set the 'Easy Setup'? When I try to capture with NTSC format the software keeps looking for a timecode that it will never find thus stops within a minute of starting. I would love to capture some video from my new Sony HDR-FX7 but not having much luck tonight. Have any helpful hints?

First, trash your preferences. Setting different incorrect settings and opening the capture window is a good way to corrupt the prefs files. HDV AIV 1080i60 is the only one to use if the camera is correctly set to output HDV.
Please give your full system specifications, what computer, what drives, how everything's connected, what settings are on the media (you really did shoot HDV?), and finally what version of the software, of the OS, and of QuickTime are you using?

  • Not able to capture HD content from Sony HDR-HC3

I recently purchased Final Cut Express 4, after successfully using iMovie HD for the past year. I successfully captured some DV content (non-HD) from my Sony HDR-HC3 for a project. However, when trying to capture HD footage for a 2nd project, I'm not getting anything. Here's the info:
    * I made the change in "Easy Setup..." to set the format to HD using Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60.
    * The footage was shot at 1080i on my HDR-HC3.
    * The camera is plugged in via FireWire.
    * When I choose "Capture", the the HDV Capture dialog comes up asking me for a file name. Once I give it a file name and click the Capture button, the tape starts playing and I get a black window with "Final Cut Express" in the middle (and the Apple logo). At the bottom, it says "CUEING TAPE (press 'esc' to stop)". When I press 'esc', the tape stops and the black capture window goes away.
    * I never see a preview in the capture window, but I see the footage fine in my camera's LCD screen.
    * A folder is created in the Capture Scratch folder, with the name I gave in the HDV Capture dialog, but nothing is ever written to this folder. It's empty.
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong...I just don't seem to be capturing any video...FCE is seeing my camera and is taking control (starting and stopping) but nothing is actually being captured.

Ok, I figured it out on my own. Operator error.
When I had captured non HD content using my camera, I had to set the iLink (FireWire) conversion to "On - HDV-->DV" in the camera in order for it to work. I forgot to set it back to "Off", so the camera was downconverting to DV when output through FireWire. Once I turned off the conversion, I was able to capture in HD.
