Sorting based on a specific value in Columns

Hi All,
Crystal 2008 version I have. And we are connecting to BW queries as source.
In a crosstab, I want to sort my row values based on a column value.
For example, in rows I have an element with three values . In column I have only one element(month), with couple of month values. My requirement is to sort rows based on a specific month (Mar'09 for example).
.....................Jan'09......Feb'09.....Mar'09
ABC...............10.............323...........33....
XYZ...............32..............33............11....
FGH...............5................34.............55...
But when I try to sort based on the Month, I can not select a specific value(mar'09). And it sorts based on the total value (sum of all months).
How can I achieve this problem?

For {Sort Value}, if you wanted to sort on the Jan column, then substitute the field name that your example shows as 10 in row ABC. For {row value}, substitute the field name that is used in the first column (ABC in the example).
In other words, take the value that you want to sort on, and put it in front of the value currently displaying as the row header. Then, sort on the results.
The purpose of the "000000000.00" is to make the length of the number, when converted to string, a consistent size. This is needed (a) so you know how many characters to strip off when displaying the row value, and (b) so the records don't sort as 1, 12, 2, 234, 235423, 25, 3, ...

Sorting and Grouping by multi-value Choice columns - any options?

I found out the hard way that SharePoint doesn't support sorting or grouping lists by Choice columns that are set to "Allow Multiple Values." I'm stunned by this missing capability, and my project has come to a complete halt without it. It's like Microsoft only implemented hafl the feature -- you can put data in, but then you can't do anything with it. You can't even use the column in a formula in another column, so you can't parse it.
I'm not posting just to gripe though. Does anyone have any suggestions for alternatives? What do you do when you need to let people make multiple selections, and then you want to sort or group by those values? Are there any add-on products that allow this? At this point my only option seems to be to not allow multiple choices, but that's taking away a rather significant feature.

Thank you for the reply and the additional questions. For my situation I want to use the multi-value choice to indicate a "belongs to" relationship, as in "this item belongs to projectA, projectB, and project C. Because there are more than 10 projects, I didn't want to create a separate Yes/No checkbox for each one.
For viewing the information, I'm looking primarily for a "group by" function. So if an item belongs to projectA, projectB, and projectC, it would appear three times, once under the grouping for each project. What I don't want is for a row that only belongs to projectA to be grouped separately from a row that belongs to both projectA and projectB. I want to see all the rows that belong to projectA grouped together, regardless of whether they also belong to other projects.
I'll look into using a grid control, but if you have any other suggestions I'll certainly listen.

I am using Oracle 10g, In my worksheet i have created column using Decode Function.I would like to count Flag='Y'(not using group sort).
Could anybody help me on this problem

Hi Vikram
You need to create another calculation in your worksheet using the DECODE as you suggested. Here is what you need:
DECODE(Entered Employment,'Y',1'0)
Make sure when you create it that you pasted the item name into the calculation and do not type it yourself. Because the name contains spaces Discoverer may think of it as being a variable instead of a column name.
If you do the above you should be able to do a SUM on the new calculation.

I need to hide multiple rows in a dynamic table based on the specific value of that row.
I cant find the right expression to do that.

Go to the Row Properties, and in the Visibility tab, you have "Show or hide based on an expression". You can use this to write an expression that resolves to true if the row should be hidden, false otherwise.
Additionally, in the Matrix properties you should take a look at the filters section, perhaps you can achieve what you wish to achieve through there by removing the unnecessary rows instead of just hiding them.
It's only so much I can help you with the limited information. If you require further help, please provide us with more information such as what data are you displaying, what's the criteria to hiding rows, etc...

How to Sort Dimension in Pivot Table via Order Column which is changing like Factual values

Hi,
Recently in of our product offerings we got stuck on this following question:
How to Sort Dimension based on the Order Value which Keeps Changing with Factual Values??
We have a data source laid out as (example)
In the above the “Order” columns are changing per
Company/(DimensionA) for DimesnsionB.
Instead what we want is: (But only if we can get the following result without putting the “Order” Column in the “Values” Section.
If there are any configurations that we can make to our power pivot model for the similar data set so that the
DimesnionB in this case can be sorted by the Order column, would be greatly helpful to us.

According to your description, you need to sort dimension members in Pivot Table via order column, and you don't want the order column show on the Pivot table, right?
Based on my research, we can sort the data on the Pivot table based on one of the columns in that table, and we cannot sort the data based on the columns that not existed on the Pivot table. So in your scenario, to achieve your requirement, you can
add the column to pivot table and hide it.

Update table based on ID reference comparing each column and value

Hi,
Through UI user can update any information and click save. In backend i will be receiving only ID as reference . Based on the ID value i should update multiple tables wherever i have the reference tables. Here i will not get the values or column name updated.
I just get a ID to find which row is updated.
I should do a comparision now.
I have a history table where i get the row before updation. and i get a row after updation from current data i.e. from ssdb_Railroad[This will be updated by java after updation we will get the ID inorder to update remaining tables]. Now i need to compare
both the table column values and know which column is updated and after getting the value i should update reference tables.
Below is the structure for comparision table , History table and Main table.

Here SSDB_Railroad table and History table needs to be compared and get a updated value and it should be inserted in a comparision table. as well as it should be updated in reference tables.

According to your description, personally, the merge function can meet your requirements. Usually, we can synchronize two tables by updating or inserting rows in a target table based on differences found in the source tables. Just as your description, when
the value of ID and InsertDate_UpdateDate in the source table matches a value, update them in the target table. When the values does not match, the source row is inserted into the target table.

Print out a column value only if another column has a specific value (CASE Statement)

I tried many hours to find a solution for the following request but wasn't successful. Maybe you could help me.
I've using the already existing SQL Views in Microsoft Service Manager to do some basic reporting about my tickets.There is no closed date in the activity tickets so I decided to print out the lastmodified timestamp when the status is "closed".
That's my query:

Unfortunatelly I'm not getting the value from dbo.DisplayStringView.LastModified. SQL outputs that it is not possible to convert the string to date/time.
I think there is a problem with the CASE statement in combination with a value select.
Any ideas how to print out a column value only if another column has a specific value?

I think it is the other way if you want the missing date shown as a string.

Looping thru column names based on a variable value

I have an ArrayCollection with a series of columns named
price1, price2... thru to price10
I'm trying to loop thru these columns based on a variable
value, but can't figure the syntax:

doesn't work
}

Try testPrice = myGrid.selectedItem["price" + column];
Remember to test that selectedItem isn't null before you try
to assign the values.

Sorting based on two columns in report

Hi,
we have one issue on sorting based on two columns in report.
In the report we are doing sorting on two columns(week_id and stage_name). I have attached the screen shot for the same. The sorting is first done on the week_id and then on the stage_name. The issue comes when we have no data for the stage 1 - Prospect in W1. The stage goes to the second position.
Please suggest if there is any work around to show the 1 - Prospect stage in W1.

Return the rows of the table where a column contains a specific value first

I want my query to return the rows of the table where a column contains a specific values first in a certain order, and then return the rest of the rows alphabetized.
For Example:
Country
ALBANIA
ARGENTINA
AUSTRALIA
CANADA
USA
Now i want USA and CANADA on top in that order and then other in alphabetized order.

HTML Dataset - how to filter based on data values within columns

I have had success with using the XML dataset and filtering based on user input (see javascript example below)

I need to accomplish this type of filtering with an HTML table. All that I have been able to accomplish with the use of the in the rowselector (see example below)

Although my advanced dataselector within Dreamweaver CS4 has a column selector... I can't under or get it to work.

According to your description, you want to pass the Terminal number that user logon to where clause without needing to create a userid table, right?
As per my understanding, you need to add an additional table to store the user and corresponding terminal, so that you can filter the data to show the rows based on the user and corresponding terminal. Here are some blogs which describe dynamic security

How to access sort direction and filter value of columns? Can I catch the 'filtered' or 'sorted' event?

We have some columns being added to a table. We have set the sortProperty and the filterProperty on each of our columns.
This allows us to both filter and sort.
We want to be able to access the columns filter value and sort value after the fact. Can we access the table and then the columns and then a columns properties to find these two items? How can I access the sort direction and filter value of columns?
We would also like to store the filter value and the sort direction, and re-apply them to the grid if they have been set in the past. How can we dynamically set the filter value and sort direction of a column?
Can I catch or view the 'filtered' or 'sorted' event? We would like to look at the event that occurs when someone sorts or filters a column. Where can I see this event or where can i tie into it, without overwriting the base function?

Just wanted to share how I implemented this:
Attach a sort event handler to table - statusReportTable.attachSort(SortEventHandler);
In this event handler, grab the sort order and sorted column name then set cookies with this info
