Sorting by camera serial number?

Hello,
I can see how to search photos by the various cameras I've used over the years. (Metadata>customfilter>CameraInfo)  I can also see the serial numbers of the cameras in the image info.  In the past several years, I've been shooting with three different D300 bodies. Is there a way to sort or search by the serial numbers of the three different cameras?
Thanks in advance,
M. Jackson

  • Is it possible in Aperture 3 to sort by camera serial number..?

Ok so I've bought a second 5Dmk2 for my Wedding photography, now the time sync is out by 1 hour on each camera, summer time and none summer time..
I know how to change this in the meta data, but my problem has a bit more to it, the file numbers also over lap, i.e i have two versions of img_8990 from both cameras, and meany of these...
So all the pic's are out of order, and the numbers are quite jumbled up too
What I would like to do, is sort by camera serial number, change the time on one set of images, then arrange by time, the rename the files...
So the question is, can/how do you arrange by camera serial number..?

    Hello,
So the question is, can/how do you arrange by camera serial number..?
You cannot sort by serial number, but you can separate your images by serial number:
I suggest to create a smart album for each camera:
File -> New -> Smart Album
Then add a rule: Serial number contains
Do this for each of your cameras, and then use "Metadata -> Batch Change -> Adjust Time Zone" for each of the separate smart albums for each of your cameras.
    Good Luck

  • Camera Serial Number for Nikon D80?

I've seen multiple references to sorting by camera serial number, and I've searched for info on how this info is incorporated into Lr 2.0, but so far I'm still in the dark.
My system (Win XP SP3) doesn't incorporate serial number from my D80 when I import NEF files, and I'm wondering whether this only occurs with the more expensive models? Or should I expect that my serial number should show up in Lr 2.0?
    Tom R

Thanks for the suggestion. I've downloaded the application and will try it tonight.
Lr 2.0 shows the serial number field as blank...

  • Lightroom not reading correct data for Lens and Camera Serial Number

    Hi you all.
Recently got Lightroom, and I'm so impressed - I never imagined image organizing and adjustment could be this easy and at the same time very advanced.
I have a problem, however. Lightroom (and Adobe Bridge, too) does not correctly read the EXIF data of Lens type and Camera Serial Number.
The first ~50 images I took and imported turned out correctly and displayed my serial number and lens (18-55 mm Canon) inside Lightroom.
But now, whenever I import photos into Lightroom or view them with Bridge, they all display "Unknown Lens" and "Unknown Camera Serial Number".
At first I thought that maybe the camera didn't correctly record this data on to the photos anymore for some reason, but a comparison using EXIFToolGUI shows that the metadata is EXACTLY the same as in the photos that display this info in Lightroom correctly.
I have not done any changes to either my camera (Canon EOS-350D / Digitial Rebel XT) or lens (the kit lens, 18-55 mm Canon).
It seems that for some reason, Lightroom has stopped reading these two fields of metadata - all the other fields, such as aperture and shutter speed, all display correctly.
I also tried to reimport the photos into Lightroom, but it didn't help. Neither did "Synchronize Folder" -> "Scan for metadata updates".
What should I do? I'd like my lens information do display correctly, as I'll buy a new lens soon.
I have attached one of the photos that Lightroom doesn't read the data correctly from. Try importing it into your Lightroom, and see if how the info displays.
    Thanks in advance.

Are these jpgs or RAW?  I have only edited metadata on jpgs.
It looks like Vista's import stripped out all the makernotes.  I didn't look at your file but that seems to be what happened.  Be warned, Photoshop CS2 also strips out makernotes!
Now how to fix the problem.  If you want to edit the metadata on files already loaded into LR, you need to write out your metadata to the files first, then edit the metadata, then read the new metadata into LR.  This is scarey for me, so I always make sure my backup is up to date on the images first.
What to do...  You probably can't put back all of the makernotes, so what to do to get the lens information in.  I don't know if putting back in the makernote LensType would trigger LR to reconsider its lens information.  I don't know.  If it had a real lens name, my guess would be no because it would have an XMP::Lens field which would override.  But maybe unknown lens doesn't have this field and it would re-read the makernotes.
The other solution is to forget about makernotes for these images and put the exact text you want into XMP::Lens.  I think that's the "easy" way.
In either case, you will have to become familiar with exiftoolGUI or exiftool itself.  I use the command line exiftool but it looks like you can edit multiple files with exiftoolGUI.  Select your files, click the edit thingy (^) under XMP, choose various, and there is lens.  Put in the text you want.
I would do this with one file first.  If the lens shows up after you read the new metadata into LR, you know you have it right.
Note, exiftool can write backup files for each file.  This makes too much of a mess for me.  I prefer to copy the directory first (I have copies anyway, I just have to make sure the backups are up to date).
Good luck!  I'm struggling with a similar situation where the same lens used by two different cameras is coming out with a different name.  I need to go back and "fix" the names in the images already imported, and then develop my procedure for setting a single unique name before I load new images into LR.  Not too much of a problem because I'm loading in GPS information anyway...  What's another call to exiftool...

  • Nikon D300 raw files, unable to retrieve the camera serial number!

    Hi all,
I have just downloaded some D300 NEF files (camera firmware v. 1.2) onto my PC, and both Bridge and Camera Raw display NO camera serial number in all the shots! :-( And when I convert them in DNG, I still don't have any info on the nikon camera serial no. , why!? :-(
I opened them with EXIF tool and I tested that the camera serial is there in all the NEF's (and also JPEG) files.
I tried the NEF files from a Nikon D2X camera and, this time, the camera serial is read perfectly from both Bridge, Camera Raw and Lightroom (v. 1.4.1) too. Does someone have any hints!?
    Thanks in advance! ;)

    >then it's either a bug in the application or an application that ignores some very basic rules.
For as long as Photoshop has been around, any plug-in, with or without an extension will try to be loaded by Photoshop (as well as Bridge). Normal renaming of a plug-in or removing an extension will NOT eliminate Photoshop's ability to load them at startup.
There are certain symbols you can add to the front of a file name to prevent loading the plug-in. If you want to disable a plug-in on startup you'll need to add ¬ symbol as a leading character and that plug-in will be disabled.
This is neither a bug nor a failure of the application...it's a special situation that is a standard cross-platform method that Adobe apps have used for years (at least 18 years at this point with Photoshop).
So, while it may be obscure and obtuse, it's not the problem of Photoshop/Bridge since it's behaving as designed.
In testing various versions, I often have up to 1/2 dozen different versions of Camera Raw installed at one time. I use the ¬ symbol to disable all the version I don't want to load and make sure only 1 version is named normally.

  • Wrong Camera Serial Number

A number of years ago, I started shooting digital with a Coolpix E990.
Lightroom shows an exif serial number for this camera which is incorrect and which is in fact the serial number of a D2X which I bought much later. I have a number of pictures from this D2X camera in the database. The serial number for the D2X is shown correctly.
This false serial number for the Coolpix E990 also appears in Bridge, strangely enough.
This is not preventing me from using Lightroom normally, I am just worried that something may be corrupted.
    Any comments or ideas?

Were the images opened by any other application?
I am baffled, as I can't think of any other way that images from camera x would bear camera y's serial number....

  • Battery Serial Number Report For Laptops?

Does anyone know if there is a way to get a report of the battery serial number via ARD 3?
    Chris H.

In theory it should be possible even though I have not tried it. Using system profiler you will be able to gather all sorts of data (Serial Number for computer and Battery Stats like charge capacity, power level, times charged etc... cant remember about Battery serial try it an see).
To run profiler from UNIX comand level, click on the ARD 3.0 Unix icon, type in "system_profiler" and save it as a template for future use.
    Accessing system profiles with Terminal
You can generate a system profile with Terminal using the system_profiler command line tool. To use this tool, enter the following command in Terminal: /usr/sbin/system_profiler
For more information about the system_profiler command, enter "man" and system_profiler.

  • Dreamweaver CS4 Serial Number Problems

Hi guys, I bought a new copy of Dreamweaver CS4 a couple of years ago, installed it, and its run fine. I don't build websites for a living, have just built one for myself and a couple of groups I'm involved with.
Just a few weeks back, I went to use the program and it told me to enter my Serial Number. I thought this was a bit wierd as I'd been using the program for a couple of years, and entered the Serial Number provided on the packaging when first installed. When I entered the Serial Number a red X appeared next to the number and the message "The serial number you entered is not valid"
Why would this have happened? Has the program been corrupted? I've been using the program without any problems until this started, now I can't seem to get into it. How can I fix this problem?
    Many thanks.

Hi everyone, thanks so much for your replies, I really appreciate it. Sorry for my slow response, I have to travel a bit for my work so have been away lately. Jim, I have checked the serial number a few times to make sure I didn't mess it up. But am still having issues.
Carey, the problem I'm having isn't with trying to install it on a new pc. The problem is with my two current pc's. I first loaded the product to my main pc approx 2 years ago, and its been working fine. I installed it to my laptop more recently when my main pc went in for some repairs. Its been working fine on the laptop too. However, in December last year, my main pc was struck with a virus. I don't know if this was at all related to the issues I'm now having with my serial number,  but the next time I went to use Dreamweaver, it started giving me a countdown for when I'd need to install my serial number. When that countdown reached 30 days it locked me out. When I entered my serial number, the red X appeared next to it and said "The serial number you entered is not valid".
The program worked fine on my laptop, until I went to use it a couple of weeks ago, and now when I open it an error message pops up which reads:
"Licencing for this product has stopped"
"This product has encountered a problem which requires that you restart your computer before it can be launched"
Then it goes on to tell me that if the problem continues I should contact Adobe, and it gives the error message: "Error: 148:3"
When I restart my computer, I get the same error message.
I have been really happy with the product. I don't want to install it on a new pc, I just want to sort out the serial number issues that have started and to get it working again on my existing pc and laptop.
Thanks again everyone for your help.

  • EOS 5D Mark III - Serial Number EXIF Error

    Hi,
I just enquired of PhaseOne as to why their DAM & RAW processor does not show the Camera Serial Number and I received the following reply:
"The simple reason for this is that the 5DmkIII does not write it in the standard EXIF data which the 5D and the 5DmkII did.
I have attached a EXIF extract from a 5DmkII and a 5DmkIII to show it.
This essentialy is a Canon firmware issue or feature depending on how you see it"
Is this going to be corrected in a new Firmware release or is it a feature of the 5D Mark III?

I guess the question is, "Is there a "standard" location for the camera serial number in a RAW file?" Or is the author of a RAW processor responsible for knowing where it is and handling it accordingly? With the exception of a few artificial outliers like Adobe's ACR, aren't all RAW formats camera-specific?
    Hi,
Yes there is a standard promulgated and agreed to by camera manufacturers from The Japan Electronic Industries Development Association (JEIDA) which produced the initial definition of Exif. Version 2.1 of the specification is dated 12 June 1998. The latest, version 2.3, released on 26 April 2010 and revised in May 2013, was jointly formulated by JEITA and CIPA. Exif is supported by almost all camera manufacturers.
Unfortunatly though, camera vendors also store important information only in proprietary makernote fields, instead of using available Exif standard tags. An example for this is Nikon's ISO settings tag and now it seems, the Body Serial number tag on the Canon EOS 5D Mk III is used for something else.
It leads me to believe it is a tag error because my other Canon cameras don't have any problems.
    Don.
Maybe they put the serial number where they did in order to make it more resistant to Exif-editing software. If so, maybe it's a feature rather than an error. It will be interesting to see where the serial number appears in RAW files from the 7D2.

  • Are selfmade DNG profiles referred to the cameras serial nr. (et al.)?

Need a quick help, because I'm just writing an article about the DNG profile editor...
When I make my own DNG profile with the DNG PE, is this profile referred to the cameras serial#? If you have more than one camera of the same model, you should be able to make a separate profile for every body. If you have different profiles for different cameras of the same model - are the right profiles automatically referred to the corresponding camera in ACR? Or do I have to use different profile names to select them manually?
When I have assigned the different profiles to the corresponding cameras in ACR and I fix this as a standard ("Save new camera raw standard"), will the right profiles be assigned correctly by ACR from now on? Only if "Align standards at the cameras serial number" in the ACRs settings is active? (Sorry, I don't know the correct option names in english, because I only have the german version of PS...)
Unfortunately I can't try this by myself, because I own some digital cameras, but not two of the same model... :-(
Is there anybody who knows this? Or is there an owner of "camera tweens" who can figure this out for me?
Another question: If I have already made a camera calibration with ACR (modified the red, green and blue primaries), can I transfer these values (without change) to the DNG profile editor to save and use this calibration as a profile? (I know I have to set the calibration to 0 in ACR in this case, because instead it is applied twice.) My question is: Do same values of the calibration in ACR and PE produce exactly the same result?
I just tried this: It is not the case. Why not? I compared the two results with the difference-mode, they are not exactly equal (differences up to six 8-bit integer values).
What about the "Hue (dark tones)" slider in ACRs camera calibration? Why is it missing in the PEs Color Matrices window?
Thx a lot for your answers
    Marius

So far as I am aware, DNG camera profiles do not store camera serial numbers, only camera model. Application can, if they want, associate a particular profile to a camera with a particular serial number.
As regards differences between PE and ACR calibration sliders - I don't think the Adobe people have ever had it as a design goal for PE and ACR to be exactly the same in that regard. But only someone on the inside like Eric Chan would know for sure.

  • Why do images in ACR randomly appear in serial number (camera body) order?

This is frustrating me to no end - I'll start editing a wedding, selecting a succession of images in Bridge then opening them in ACR (oh, & I'll have Date Created as my viewing option, which the images *do* show up in, in Bridge); then, for apparently no reason, the images I've openind in ACR start showing up in serial number or camera body order (split into mine & my second shooters). I'll have started the editing, gone through any number of images with no problem (all opein in ACR in Date Created order), then, BOOM! I'll select a succesion of images & they open divided up into the different camera bodies order...help! Please!

So what you’re seeing is that ACR always sorts by camera-body/serial-number order rather than whatever order they images were in when you selected them in Bridge or are you saying that the images appear in ACR in the proper order than at some point they switch order w/o exiting ACR?
