Sound Blaster Surround 5.1 USB on GNU/Li

Hi, I need to buy USB sound card for my laptop. Sound Blaster Surround 5. seems to be a good choice, but I am running only Ubuntu Linux, so I need to know if it will be working. I know, that only M$ Windows are supported, but it's working on Linux or not?
Thanks for all responses.

    Hi
I have Creative Sound Blaster 5.1 Pro Usb connected analog with Creative Inspire 5200 (5.1). Operating system Win8.1 with full updated. When I watching DVD etc 5.1 sound-everything is ok. But if i listen stereo music, there are 3 channels work that Front right, left and Center. This is not enough satisfy me.
On the other hand, when i watching something on youtube, there are 4 channels work (Front Right/Left&Rear Right/Left) which is better.
Which settings fix my problem for 4 channels listening stereo?
    Have a good day..

  • Is Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 NX USB sound card compatible with Dell deskt

Im considering buying the Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 NX USB sound card to use with a Dell desktop XPS 40, but recently read a forum message on another page that there was a issue with installing on a Dell Tower but no problems with installing on a laptop
any help is appreciated if there are any compatibility issues with using this sound card on a Dell desktop, Thanks
the main reason I would like to upgrade to this card is so my pc doesnt use the integrated audio which Id like better quality performance with a sound card and also dont want to install a internal card on the system

    joaolfb,
Audigy 2 NX will need to be connected with the power adaptor inorder to run. USB will not be enough to sustain the power consumption of the sound card.

  • Sound blaster surround 5.1 (li

Hello yesterday I bought the creative surround blaster 5. but I have some trouble. I read the faq and other support on the creative homepage, but i didn't found any solution for my problems.
. I have only sound troug one of the wholes (the green one/ front). I do not hear other sound trough the other speakers.
    2. When i push on one of the buttons like mute all sound stopt but i can't enable the sound back, (i need to restart my system).
    Maybe this come in handy:
My surround system is logitech X-530
the sound card is the creative surround 5. (it is called 'life' on creative.com).
    Computer: Dell latitude D50
    Thanks

The software has been flaky from the start. Creative has a lousy download section for their legacy products. The newest and de-bugged software and drivers are not available.
I reinstalled the software a few months ago, since this "problem" has been happening for longer than that. It made no difference. I yesterday tried another driver. No difference again.
BY THE WAY: The configuration flips back to "desktop stereo speakers" every time I reboot the computer. I don't have to open any programs. I check the config immediately on reboot, and, MOST times, it's back to 2 speakers again.
    It's a SB 0220 model sound card.

  • Sound Blaster Surround 5.1 Pro - High latency with THX Surround

    Hello everyone,
I was comparing the quality and latency of THX TruStudio with Razer Surround but I noticed something that I hadn't noticed before.
It is known that Razer Surround adds latency and its is unavoidable by the way it works, but I wasn't expecting THX Surround to add as much latency!
When THX is disabled, it has no (or almost no) latency, but if I enable it I can easily fell the delay.
I am testing it with CS: GO by going to the menu to create a new bot match and holding my mouse click on one option (casual, for example) and releasing the button. I can compare the sound made by the game with the sound made by my mouse button when it is released.
With THX Surround enabled there is a noticeable delay, with it disabled there is no delay whatsoever.
On my desktop I have one X-Fi Titanium and there is no delay with CMSS-3D enabled.
I am using Windows 7 x64 with headphones. My processor is i7 3610qm.
Am I the only one having this problem? I believe that with this card everything is processed by the CPU, could that be introducing the latency?
Does that happen with cards based on SoundCore3D? (SoundBlaster Z)
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Generally, an "internal" sound card would have a lower latency as compared to a USB-based sound device.

  • Performance problems in games with Sound Blaster USB Sound Dev

    Hello!
I recently bought a new USB sound device named "Creative Sound Blaster Surround 5. USB Sound Device"?or maybe also "Sound Blaster Li've! 24-bit External" as this is the name that Windows is displaying.
Before, i was using a C-Media PCI Audio Device.
    Other system info:
    Windows Vista SP
ATI Radeon 9200 LE (i know it's old, but i was able to play the games before)
    2GB RAM
Now, my performance in games decreased significantly.
I only play Team Fortress 2, but i also tried an old GoldSrc engine?based game which was also slower.
The game now isn't playing fluently like before: my fps dropped and every few seconds, the graphics stop as there is a big network lag. It is now impossible to really play the game.
    i already tried
    - reinstalling steam and tf2
    - using another usb port
    - reinstalling the sound drivers
    - all (both sound and graphics) settings to low
The Steam support thinks that the data transfer rate for USB isn't high enough for what is needed and recommends that i should buy an internal sound card.
But i hope there is a different solution to this problem and someone here can help.
    Thanks!

No PCI interface, but USB = Slow. No hardware-acceleration (Mayber your CMedia had !real!, not pseudo?DS hardware support) so its normal that the soundblaster usb is slower in every term. But maybe sounds better...
The USB versions are only for Notebooks and other speciall situations where a PCI soundcard with X-FI or Audigy chip cannot be used...

  • My Sound Blaster Zx issues

Other than the problems I am about to write, it has been an amazing gaming experience with all the games I've played. I've been using Sound Blasters since the ISA 64 (DOS era) times. I hope for the best for Creative.
Second of all, I am using the latest drivers from the website and after the list of problems you'll see my full system specs I copied from archive sorry for unnecessary details of the system.
Too much noise when I am using the headset it's very annoying too much to handle sometimes. Scrolling up and down the web pages make noise. I don't know what causes this issue. It may be that the shielding on the headset's cables is too bad (it may be since it's leaking the speakers to mic. People can hear what I am listening to even if the mic is disabled on the headset). There is the same noise when it's on speakers too but I cannot verify whether it's the cables that are picking the noise or the card. In order to solve this issue I connect the Sound Blaster Zx to the bottom of the motherboard where there is a PCIe 16x. This eliminates most of the noise but creates so many other problems I am not even going to talk about since Creative may not have designed this card's controller to work on PCIe 16x bus. All the problems exist when it's connected to 1x PCIe and 16x problems are not listed below.
Frequently upon restart, it asks me too choose the sound card for PRO STUDIO and Sound Blaster Speaker Setup separately. The names are followed by numbers. ex: 2 - Sound Blaster, 3 - Sound Blaster
Surround left is a lot louder than surround right speaker. I have to adjust it's dBs on the Speaker Level panel. First, I thought this could be an issue with the T6160 box, but I have a 5.1 surround headset and I feel the same to some degree when I'm using it. I play Battlefield 3 usually and it's very noticeable if you want to try.
CrystalVoice Focus doesn't work at all other than making the mic stereo. You can hear which direction sound is coming from, but it doesn't limit the angle. It still captures everything. I need it to capture only my voice not the surroundings outside the angle.
This is not a terrible issue: Sound Blaster does a fantastic job on canceling the sound coming from the speakers if that sound was processed digitally. Without any effect on the voice (mic) it fails to cancel the echo and creates a 2 - 3 degree loop (then it drops)
When all the five jacks are connected upon restart sometimes it doesn't stay with the last chosen settings (5.1 speakers), it automatically switches to headphones.
Sometimes channels get all mixed. Either have to restart or switch between headphones and speakers
Again, I'm posting full specs since I heard other peripherals may be the reason to some problems.

    Hello, KaziQ.
I can't say about headset, my microphone and headphones are separate and they are working fine.
I had the same problem with 2- sound blaster, 3- sound blaster, but it was on old buggy system, I made a fresh install of Windows 7, now I think this problem is gone. But it's smth related to Creative drivers.
I have no problems with volume of channels, seems all good, right-left, both rear, etc.
As for CrystalVoice- all the same. It's making microphone Stereo, somehow, I think, it should help with angles u are speaking into it, but i don't know how, coz this feature seems kinda useless to me. On other hand, I can hear myself and people can hear me perfectly, using this small mic that came with Z soundcard.
As for switching to headphones- yes, I had this issue on old system. Reinstalled from scratch Windows (formatted drive C) and drivers. Problem is gone for now.
And I never got mixed channels, never! Even on old system.
But I advise to do the same... try clean installation...
    And good luck. )

  • How does one enable Stereo Mix on the Sound Blaster Arena Surround USB Gaming Headset

I'm usually streaming games and I picked up this headset to replace my old gear.
I've noticed in 32-bit XP Pro I do not have the option to enable stereo mix which was how i was able to stream game audio and commentary on.
Does a work around exist to enable stereo mix or to otherwise transmit audio from both the input and playback sources?
BTW I've also posted this on the Livestream forums to see if I can get a bite.

I have a Sound Blaster Arena Surround usb Gaming Headset and the left speaker no longer works.
I have tried the headset on multiple computers ranging from xp to vista to 7. some have different versions of the driver. On all the left audio is silent.

But I no longer have the box or booklet that came with it and therefore can’t get the serial number for the device.
Is there anything you guys can do to help me?
The closest article I could find to this problem was here http://forums.creative.com/t5/Headphones-Headsets/Sound-Blaster-Arena-problem/m-p/558966#M2001. So it appears I must wait for an admin to help.

    Very handy info.
I went to http://rma.creativelabs.com/OnlineRMA/EnterProduct and that section required I have a legit serial number.

  • Problem: Sound Blaster Arena Surround USB Gaming Headset

    Hello
I have one of these Sound Blaster Arena Surround USB Gaming Headset, which are 7..
I have Windows 7 as OS on my computer and it gives me a few problems.
W7 recognises the headset as a "Stereo" headset. The headset has a Sound Card of it's own and uses the drivers that come with the Installation CD for Surround settings that are mad in Audio Control Panel or Creative Entertainment Console.
    This is a problem.
For example. Playing Call of Duty 5: World at War.
The audio settings on this game, always (and is unchangeable) goes after the default Audio Device. And then it recognises my Headset. And puts in STEREO config. Since it was W7 recognises, and I cant change that on the game and neither on the Audio Settings on the computer. Which make the subwoffer and Surround effects useless which is a hard bummer, since it's such an awesome headset and is totally awesome when i play Battlefield: Bad Company 2.
I really want to know how I can fix this! Please help me. Any settings or special config in the cfg files you can do on Call of Duty 5 or and settings or stuff I can do to change so W7 recognises my headset with the 7.!

I contacted Creative. They will not help me. If anyone has a Sound Blaster Arena Surround USB Gaming Headset and would be willing to open up the plastic housing on the USB end to tell me what goes where I would greatly appreciate it. Also the plastic housing will go back together. If any additional info is necessary, please inquire.

  • Usb Sound Card Surround

    Greetings,
Not to long ago i got a Sound Blaster Live! 24bit external usb and tried to make it work with linux. The gentoo wiki for this card worked, however because it is a usb card, the front speakears are the only ones that are working. Since I have a 5+1 speaker set and headphones I would like to use this card to the fullest.
Acording with the information that I found, this card doesn't have a internal mixer and I believe that's the problem, because in windows I have to install the creative drivers otherwise I have the same results that I have in linux (only the fronts speakers working).
I tried a few kernel versions, updated alsa and user several configurations, tried the closed OSS drivers and all gave the same results.
I would like to know if is possible to use all the speakers with this souncard or if someone with other usb souncard that uses the snd-usb-audio module was able to use surround in their soundcard.
Sorry for my bad english and thanks in advance.

I have one and it works okay in Windows 7 (I have not actually used it in Vista). The sound quality is good, the only problem is you must use the beta drivers (the official ones are terrible) and there's a delay. Playing music doesn't cause a problem, but playing video it can be annoying. I typically use VLC just so I can adjust the audio delay. It's possible that I'm getting the delay because of the USB hub. I haven't really tested.
I do like the sound quality. Get the beta drivers and don't install the stuff from the CD it comes with. I don't have any crackling or pops and never have. Personally, I really like it.

  • Multiple cases in which the Sound Blaster Arena USB Headset breaks. . .

I bought the Complexity edition of the Sound Blaster Arena Surround USB Gaming Headset. After using it for months the USB connector part of the headset breaks and falls apart. Feedback from here shows that this has happened to many other people (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16826158084).
I want to know if can get this repaired as this is a defect. When i tried submitting an RMA it says that the serial isnt recognized but when i registered my product it works.

    Hello Bunbotman990,
Please get in touch with customer support here if you have problems with the online RMA. I'm not sure but for issues like this, they may have to ask you to send in a pic of the defective part.
