Sound in older ga

I have a SB Audigy and running Win2K SP4 and i would like to know if there is any way to get music in older games, mostly DOS based ones, they will run, but with no music or sound.

. I see a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark but no further help is given.
Where are the sound files located, that you are using with your Slideshow? The yellow triangle idicates that the file cannot be found.
In the example above the audio tracks were missing for two different reasons: The song "Linus and Lucy" had been removed from the iTunes Library and was no longer available, the serenade "Eine kleine Nachtmusik" had been replaced in the iTunes Library by a matched version (iTunes Match) and Aperture could not find the referenced audio file. To fix this, you need to restore the original audio files to the exact location in the iTunes Library where they have been previously, when you created the SlideShow, which may be difficult.

New movies lose sound on older Mac

I have some quicktime movies created on my new MacBook Pro. When I play them back on my G4 Powerbook with OSX 10.2.5, and QT 6.0.1pro, the sound is gone. I tried to find an upgrade to quicktime, but everything I found refused to install. I can't upgrade the OS, because I have mission critical softwae that won't run properly on later systems.
If I can't fix the quicktime on my older system, is there a way to prepare movies on the latest system (with Quicktime 7) so that they will be backward compatible and play on earlier systems.
I have been trying to convince my friends that quicktime ought to be the universal format for sound and video, but if is going to be unstable then this requires a rethink.

You need at least iMovie 08 to work with AVCHD. iMovie 08 will not install on anything less than a G5.

SB Live and older ga

I have installed an SB Li've vaule card and am generally pleased with the product, but am having issues with getting sound from older games, such as older LucasArts games (Monkey Island, Sam and Max, Full Throttle, etc.)
Either I have no sound or in the case of Sam and Max, the game won't boot up at all, but hangs immediately when it first starts up.
Are the SB LIve cards not compatible wtih older SB, SB Pro or SB6 settings with these older games?
Any help or comments would be very helpful. Thank you for your time.

Are you running under Windows XP? If so I believe you may need to find an emulator for these games to run on XP. I don't have any specific products, but I know that the sound system on these games used an engine called SCUMM. Perhaps a search for this might yield results.

Attached mixing board with audigy sound card probl

i am using a mixing board with an audigy sound card the porgram im using has 2 channels a and b the music plays only on one port i used to be able to sue up the 2 different songs on 2 volume controls now both songs play in the 2 channels but sound is only controlled by one volume control?it has played properly for over 3 years with no problems until tonight?anyone have any ideas?thanks

Okay, I'm assuming you mean you have a stereo connection to rear Line-out and 2 and that you want both Line-outs to play the same stereo signal. If you are trying for something different, then post additional explanation, and we can go from there. I have not heard of an SB9400 before. You should be able to find the serial number on a white sticker on the card. That would identify the model. I think all Audigies have a Speaker Settings applet. So in Speaker Settings, do you have 4/4. speakers selected? If you have an EAX Console, do you have a CMSS3D option? (It might be called simply CMSS on some Audigies.) If so, select that. If you have a stereo surround option, select that. For the Audigy 2 ZS, for example, CMSS3D stereo surround will route the same stereo signal to Line-out & 2 (and optionally to Line-out 3).

BT COMPLAINT HELP Re: Lack of Customer Service/ In...

Hi all,
I havent posted for a while as ive been ill, but am hoping someone may be able to help...
I had been a customer of BT for around 3 years (All 3 services Broadband-Option 1, Vision Unlimited TV package, Free eve & weekend calls/line rental). Upon each year I found usually BT care would assist in giving me a better value package however this year I hear nothing back(despite heading up the email as URGENT and stating contract up 14th Sep! & also marked for a Manager, as id been assisted by Nigel ***** in previous years who had been the manager). However no reply.
I then decide given no reply that I'll look at some cheaper providers/see if I can get a better price (as money is tight with my illness) and managed to get a better deal by a long shot. So I phoned BT to explain this and ask asked for the MAC code. The lady (Tamara) didnt attempt to keep my custom or offer me anything but seemed to not want to give the MAC code as she kept putting me on hold again and again and then said it would have to be posted out within 5 days, to which I explained I needed it today to give to a new provider(as I didnt want to be charged for extra with BT), put on hold again, finally she said her manager (Paul of the Customer Options Team)had let Tamara give me the MAC code. Given the difficulty in getting it from them I made sure I checked the code in the following ways...
1. Checked if case sensitive - reply was that its all in capitals
2. I asked Tamara to read it out to me and I wrote it down.
3. I then asked if she could read it to me again so I could check it.
4. She read it back to me, this time including a forward slash and extra letter. hmm
5. I then read it out to her phonetically(eg A for Alpha) and asked her to say yes if correct.
6. All letters correct I was told.
7. I asked for the MAC to be emailed to MY HOTMAIL EMAIL.
Due to the difficulty in obtaining the code I ensured I wrote the date (13th September 2012) and the advisors name(Tamara) and the Manager(Paul of Customer Options) along with the call time of around 3.45pm approx 13/9/12.
I asked Tamara regarding the moving process and was told that once I gave the MAC code and it was given to my new provider to use it would then cancel my BT contract. I explained however that I was only moving Broadband and not TV package and asked if I would need to cancel the TV package today(as despite me asking regarding the 3 services it was not informed to me), so was then told yes and I asked for this to be done that same day(as contract was up). I asked if I should ask for the call package to be cancelled as it was likely Id go to broadband only service, but she said as id need the line that it couldnt be done until the MAC was used by the new provider. I explained I was concerned incase BT overcharged me for a futher month(even though my contract was up in a day or so).
I phoned up new provider (after deciding to go with the for new service)the following day (14/9/12) and got a new broadband sign up along with the line rental(calls package included eve & weekend) for a good price. I gave the mack code and was told this was incorrect. I found it odd over this given how difficult it had been to get this code the day prior so rang BT (on my house line) while having new provider on the mobile phone nearby and I spoke to BT at approx 3pm (14/9) and explained that I needed to check the MAC CODE as I had obtained it after difficulty the day prior and had my new provider on my other phone waiting to complete my new order. (After going through security) the man refused to read out the MAC code to me and stated I needed to read it to him and he would check. I explained as I had passed security I would like him to read it to me(the purpose being is that I had checked the code very well & phonetically with BT in my call and that leaves very llittle chance for error).The man refused to do this (strange?) so I read him the first two letters(he then refused to read the rest as stated I had to read him what i'd got), I found this a bit odd but did as he asked, to which he informed me it was correct. I stated this needed to be checked and he placed me on hold for over 7mins(while I had my other provider on the other phone and then the line went dead...great!).
I phoned up again and spoke to a different adviser(sounded an older chap and was very polite) and explained the same to him and he was most helpful and read me the MAC code with no difficulty(no asking me to read what I had first etc like the other advisor) and again I repeated the code back phonetically to double check. There were 2 errors in the code (given my prior adviser Tamara) and the first being G instead of J and D instead of P. Now, I appreciate mistakes get made but given how many times I checked that code and phonetically G FOR GOLF sounds nothing like J FOR JULIET and nor does D for DONALD sound like P for PAPA. So I finally get the correct MAC code and thank the polite chap you did help me properly and with no holding and messing about.
So I'd like to complain about the way this was handled :
1. BT firstly didnt reply to my email and thus didnt make any offer to me to retain custom, which is sad given ive been with them a number of years. (sent to bt care)
2. Also I had great difficulty getting the MAC code when phoning up, meaning I was holding for alot of the call. I was then clearly given the wrong MAC as I checked many times and the first time it was read out without the forward slash and an extra letter and so as detailed above I had it thoroughly checked phonetically. I also never received the MAC email as assured to my hotmail email address as I requested.
2. Subsequent call I had to make during peak time to obtain MAC again - male adviser (think he had a scottish accent)put me on hold for 7 mins and prior to that as detailed above would not read the MAC to me. Call was then cut after 7 mins BT's end which meant I hadn't time to ask the advisors name.
3. 3rd call to BT re: MAC code - Was given the code with no delay and man apologised Id had problems prior. I then found out that 2 letters of the MAC were incorrect as detailed fully above (even though checked phonenetic way)
I'm very dissapointed in the service of BT, firstly in not replying to my email re: my 3 contracts being up for renewal, then in not attempting to offer me any loyalty offer to stay or indeed anything at all. The most frustrating and expensive issue I am unhappy about is the 3 phone calls made to BT to obtain a correct MAC code and checking the code several times along with phonetically checking leaves barely any room for error therefore that is extremely frustrating. Also initally being told it had to be sent by email and would take 5 working days(when I explained I wanted it today).
Given the errors I would also like to check that the information I was given that id only be billed up to date of contract renewal date(as im not renewing and moving). Also I wasnt informed that my BT Vision Service could be cancelled immediately, it was me that had to check that and get the adviser to do that for me.(believe this is now done). I have ordered o2 broadband and line/calls package and this is in the process of set up. I would like my complaint to be investigated fully and so it would help if someone could let me know where to forward this?? Also I want to get a clear idea of what I will be billed for as my contract with BT is currently up and the MAC has been given over but should it take the new provider 6 days, how much will BT bill me? I hope that some action will be taken given the amount of calls I have had to make sorting things out & wrong info being given and would ask this be deducted from any final bill as this has taken alot of time for a simple issue.
Sorry that was long but I felt it justified and would like to know who best to send it too?

I'm not able to use all backup devices. I made a backup using two dvd-r and one cd-r.
One of the dvds and the cd worked perfectly, but the second dvd does not work. There are no scratches or dust on the surface.
I tried both of my cd-drives.
What can I do?

use device manager to reinstal sound driver, but try to install diferent versions of it, after update (made by hp update) i had no sound, installing older ver help

Power adapter (that external thing) making whine?

While getting used to the CPU whine my macbook makes, today i was very supprised of a sound comming from the other side of my desk...
My powersupply (that thing from Delta Electronics ADP 60AD B) is making noice, and i'm able to influence that noice by my CPU usage!!!!
On low CPU usage it makes noice (it's very very high pitched, almost exact the same as the CPU whine) and very cracy (excuse my english, description is: like playing an LP with audio).
What is this? I do not have equipment i guess to record this sound, most older people will probably not even hear it (due to the high frequency; i'm 23 so still have good ears)... but this does not seem normal.. There is no fan or so inside that thing right?

High frequent sinus tone from screen

Sometimes I can hear a “not very dramatic” high frequent “sinus” type of sound, coming from the iMac`s screen. Sometimes it occurs when “altering visual graphics”. For example, when opening Safari, or other applications. 10 minutes ago, I heard the sound. Right now, having two different active programs on my desktop, like Safari and Word, the “sinus tone” is gone.
I`ve heard this sound on older television sets, but I don`t have a clue of what it could be. No disaster, but I wonder: Is this normal?

boy, ...weird as it sounds, the older I get the more I DONT wanna mess around with stuff anymore.
I guess if I had to I could dig up tools for windows 32 bit stuff ( dependence walker comes to mind )... and all that background stuff that used to be fascinating to me and really helpful besides...especially when solving problems with my machine...but NOW.... I am getting more and more into NOT doing anything anymore to solve problems...and more into just doing what I need to do...if there is a client involved or some way to make money or a product out of that " time" I spend on this stuff.
I guess what I'm saying is... if I don't HAVE to do something now I shy away from it.... and just keep this machine as lean as possible so I dont have to deal with surprises from installed junk hooking me into something I dont want.
The browsers and social media things are the worst IMO now... and search engines and all that junk...and the relationships they have with each other...
At some point all this will come to some giant wall...where serious computer users will not even have their work stations hooked up to the internet...
And they will be the minority.
The business and profit etc will continue along the lines of cookies and all that...and browsers, search engines, social media, etc...and probably dick tracy watch phones and little phones with screens and all that, which I have absolutely no interest in.
But anyway, thanks for posting this link cause back in the day this stuff was very helpful to me depending on what browser I was using etc.
Right now though, my biggest concern is trying to avoid the giant frog on the kids course when I'm supposed to be on the adult course ....

(Another) Question Regarding Logic's Pan Law

Hello, everyone. Just as I thought my previous pan law thread absolutely exhausted every possible question that could be asked on Logic's PL, another one popped up, albiet this one seems much more easilly addressed (or so I hope):
When Logic's PL is set, and you bounce a track, will the resulting bounced file when listened to OUTSIDE of Logic (i.e. on its own) be heard WITH the pan law or without the pan law? In other words, if I bounce the track on a -3dB PL, where my center signal is -3dB lower than my left and right signal, will I then hear the bounced track when played outside of Logic with the -3dB lowered middle? or will I hear it with the center signal a little louder now?
The reason I ask this is because if the latter scenario is the case (i.e. Logic's PL gets ignored when the bounced track is listened to outside of Logic) - which, incidentally, might just be the case given that some tracks I bounced and then listened to seemed to be a little louder in the middle than I rememebered them being - then what on earth is the purpose of the pan law itself?? If the PL only exists and functions so long as you're in the vaccume of Logic, then that obviously won't work because it doesn't apply OUTSIDE of Logic, and, consequently, gives you inacurate mixes.

So then to hear back how a -3dB PL bounce sounds in Logic, you have to listen to it with the PL readjusted to 0 dB, correct? otherwise Logic will add another PL to the track that was already bounced with the PL on it . . .
This statement is incorrect. If you playback a single Stereo file in Logic, and do nothing to it pan-wise, it will come out sounding exactly the same as the mutlitrack.
You need to really understand why Pan Law even came to be.
Back in the analogue hardware days of yore, there were some engineers that had issues with certain resistive pots which were chosen for panoramic control of a mono sound source on a stereo mixer.
They invented a system, for their particular board, whereby a "panoramic" pot would be fed by TWO versions of the same signal, instead of one signal. This cause the center to be about 3dB LOUDER than the hard left and right, because, when you add the same signal in a mixer twice, generally you get a total gain of 3dB.
So, they did some fancy pantsy calculations and figure out they could add RESISTORS to these two equal signals, and bring down that center by 3dB. The side effect became that when you panned hard left or roght, you were now getting 3dB LESS signal at those panoramic positions.
When DAW's came along, they orignally did not behave like their analogue mixer counterparts. they mostly were set to 0 pan law, meaning the center would be louder. After much complaining by the audio industry some companies changed this, some with options, like eMagic Logic, and some simply changed it period (ProTools).
So now you have the option to have your DAW behave more like an analogue desk, or not. the option is entirely up to you. although, if you want to mix music and have it sound like older, analogue recordings, you should choose -3dB.

Will old custom 30 pin car interface work with new classic?

My faithful 60GB 2004 iPod Photo just went to hard drive heaven after 10 years of faithful service, while sitting in the car continuously in weather from -10 to 110 degrees. Thank you, Apple for all the tunes!!
I still have a custom 3rd party interface that was installed in my 2004 Toyota Camry and connected to the stereo/NAV system. This was back when these interfaces were still new pieces of tech - and I paid a few hundred dollars for the device and its installation.
This device powered the iPod Photo and fed its audio (and some control functions) to the stereo/NAV system.
The manufacturer name on the connector coming out of the hole in the dash drilled for it says "Peripheral."
So... ...I plan to keep the car a few more years and I need a new iPod.
I know some of the the pinouts on the 30 pin connector have changed over the years, and my question is if there's a reasonable chance this interface will power a new iPod Classic and play its audio feed correctly?
If it won't work, I'd prefer the added functionality of an 64GB iPod touch over the Classic (Apps, camera, just enough storage, etc.), even if I have to power it via a 12v power port and find another way to get sound into the car system.
But if it will work, I'd prefer to just be able to keep using the interface I have and buy a Classic, as I have my apps and a camera, etc. on my phone already.
Other details:
1. I haven't looked into getting sound into older cars without AUX inputs for years, and the last ways I remember were FM transmitters and cassette tape adapters that plugged into the headphone jack. So I don't know if there are other ways these days. And, no, the car does not have a cassette tape player.)
2. If the interface will transmit power and sound, the control functions are less important - as I usually controlled the iPod with its own controls. But I suppose there's a chance the interface could interfere with these??
Any comments or advice are much appreciated.

Anyway, I did talk to Apple Care and they suggested I go to an independent Apple vendor with a used Classic in stock and see if they'll let me plug it in to check if it works, and that may be possible in my area. So will likely "try to try" that if I don't get any other input.....

Problem with audio output device not working

Okay about a week ago, i came home from work, booted up my laptop and noticed that the hp quicktouch program failed to start. Then I also noticed a red X over my sound icon on my taskbar. So i thought it might have been an error of some sort and rebooted. When I did that everything came back up find, but when I started playing a game, I noticed the sound went out again... I closed the game and went into the device manager. But as soon as I closed the game out the sound fixed itself... So i started the game back up and about 10 mins in it went out again... So I went back into device manager, scanned for hardware changes and it seems to be working find, so i reinstalled the game thinking that could be the problem.
Well when I rebooted my laptop i got the error again about quicktouch and the red X over my speaker icon. I went back into device manager to find that my sound, game controller device and driver is not even listed...
Ive been looking around for a fix to this problem, but could not find any solution. So today I reinstalled windows again, but no sound, no driver, or anything is showing up. I really dont know what to do to fix this, people say download drivers and ive tried that, nothing is seeming to work.
If anyone knows what I can do to fix this please inform me, the only thing else I can think of is go MAC lol.
Oh btw, im running a HP Pavilion Entertaiment PC (dv9700). It has windows vista 64 bit.

DVI interface does't allow audio. Is there optical IN from your Panasonic TV? By then you can connect your ATV to Panasonic using optical together. It will work.

I have an Iphone 4 on the latest IOS 5 and latest 2.3 remote control app as I use Itunes 10 to manage the phone. Since version 10 of Itunes the airport express output has been degraded with a digital volume control so I refuse to use version 10 for my lossless audio. I specifically purchased the AE knowing that I would have pefect lossless digital audio to pass on to my high end music system (I understand that turning the volume to the maximum should have the same result but to me it just does not sound as good as with itunes 9). This step back with version 10 of Itunes has made me determined to stay with Itunes 9.2.1 Now I find that the upgraded version of the remote control app will not pair with or control a 9.2.1 library. Does anyone have a solution that does not involve using Itunes 10 to stream my audio under the control of the Iphone. I would dearly love to just go back to an older version of the iphone app but again how can that be done? Or better still have the option in Itunes 10 to have garanteed bit perfect output to airport devices as many people would really appreciate this as true lossless audio is essential for many serious music lovers.

Strangely enough the pref file did not show up in the Preferences folder. I don't know what this means but it could be signifigant.
