Sound In/ out "missing" more control

I sometimes like to listen the music in my stereo, but other times the internal speaker it's OK (must of time during the night!). So I need to plug and unplug all time. When I have a powerbook it's OK because all plug it's on the right side of the computer, and as I remeber is the same volume set for internal or line out.
But Imac Intel and I think some G5 has one particular away to handle the sound in/out, and can be increased (?).
If you plug a "sound system" or a headphone the start up schime still on internal speaker with other volume. To change or set the internal volume you have to be unplugged, than plug the external equipament and set the "other" external volume.
My question is, If the Imac can handle two different volumes (so two different way of sound) why it's not possible by software to just change to internal or external sound? Without needing to unplug all time?
As Imac recoganize there are one plug and change the sound to external with a different volume set, but keep the schime intenal. All other Mac I have all sound goes or internal or external (when a plug is present).
If I open "Audio MIDI Setup" I have two "default Input" setup , but just one "Default output". Also, and principal, in "audio output" the source is "internal Speaker" and when you plug it's change to "line out", but we don't have the possibility to change and set between both.
So why it's not possible to have both and just change in the software??? It will be easer, not every time plug and unplug the out speakers or sound system from the back of the computer.

I have a DTT3500, and have had almost the same experience. It was working fine for a year or two, connected to our DVD player for input and serving as a sound system for our TV. Then it started making popping/clicking noises, and occasionally playing the input sound. Now it doesn't even play the input sound. However, the "test" works great, and we get the white-noise sound test on all 5. speakers.
I called Creative Tech Support, but we were not able to resolve the problem. I am wondering whether this can be fixed, or should I just dump the whole system in the trash can. Or can I just replace the control unit's
Would be grateful for any help or suggestions.
Thanks,
David

Do third party replacement tips fit on the apple in ear headphones? I prefer foam tips as they block out much more sound, but I'm not sure if Apple use the standard fitting for headphone tips!?!?!?!

Answer found. Please find below an amazon review explicitly mentioning adding third party foam tips. Sounds like they fit and work like a dream:
"As a audio engineer, I own about a dozen different sets of earphones and in-ear 'phones. My favorite, by far, are my sure SE530s. I have some Sennheiser cx400s which are good workhorses, but lack the finesse, clarity and stunning accuracy of the Shures. For convenience, I bought the Apple's, as I wanted something I could use with the phone for calls.
I found the sound to be quite clear and beautifully clean, but like many, no matter how I tried, the stock Apple tips never made a good seal. The seal is absolutely essential to getting bass out of a balanced armature design. For you non-engineers, just trust me that if you don't have a proper seal, you will have no bass.
In my case, I think the trouble had to do with the largest size being a tiny bit too small, and the silicon being too rigid, yet slick, so they left small airgaps and were easy to remove. I tried using some foam tips from a third party, but their large was more of a medium, and never came close to a snug fit.
As an experiment, I dug around in my ear-tips from my Shure's and tried their rubber tips which are about the same size as Apple's large tips, but made of a more pliant and slightly sticky rubber.
OMG, what a transformation. Suddenly the sound blossomed, the bass became rich and well balanced, and the "top-heavy" sound was totally mellowed into a rich, well balanced and incredibly detailed presentation.
Make no mistake, these are the best 'phones under $200 I have ever heard. The bass is deep and warm, very detailed, and totally lacking fuzz or buzz that I can hear in the Sennheiser set. Look at getting tips from a better headphone. The trick is it has to have a soft rubber base that can expand over Apple's slightly larger stub. Some tips, like the Shure foam tips, have a rigid plastic sleave in the tip to keep it's position correct, and these won't expand over the larger Apple posts."

  • There is no sound coming out of my iPad. If I plug in and external speaker it works. How do I get the sound to work? I must have turned something off?

I have no sound coming from my iPad unless I plug in external speakers. How can I get sound again. Thanks

If you lose sound for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email and other notifications, system sounds have probably been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled in two different ways: either by the side switch (located next to the volume up/down controls) or in the Recent Apps tray. The initial default is via the side switch.
Check the status of Settings > General > Use Side Switch to:. If this is set to Mute, the switch on the side of the iPad will mute system sounds.
If this is set to Lock rotation then the mute system sounds control is in the Recent Apps tray. Double tap the home button and, in the tray which appears at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is on the left. Is it is crossed-out tap on it and mute will be turned off and system sounds will be turned ON.
This Apple Support article explains in more detail how the side switch works.

  • Sound Cuts Out During Playback-Sound Card/Audio Interface Necessary?-

I'm a voiceover artist with the following setup:
    Sennheiser MKH 416 P48 U3 Microphone
    Yamaha HS80M Reference Monitors
    Mackie Onyx-i 1220 Mixer
    Adobe Audition CS6
    Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop (Intel Core2 Duo, CPU T5750 @ 2GHz, 32-bit)
Until recently, I could hear anything I recorded or pre-recorded items with no issues.  However, now, as I listen to anything, the sound 'cuts out' (latency issues?).  The meters on Audition will still be moving, but I'll get no sound from my monitors.  I upgraded to Windows 7, hoping and thinking this would solve the issue, and that Audition would play nicely with Windows 7.  This 'solution' seemed to have helped, but ultimately, it did not resolve my issue.  At this point, I believe it's my sound card.  My studio quality setup seems to be too much for my consumer grade sound card.  Because my Mackie has an interface built into it, I did not believe that I needed an interface.  However, I'm beginning to question that.  So, that's part of my question.  Is an audio interface necessary for me even though I have one built into my Mackie?  If so, based on what I list for my system, does anyone have any recommendations for interfaces?  If I do not need an interface, I'd appreciate any suggestions or ideas as to what's causing the sound to 'cut out' and how to resolve it.  Any and all help, I thank you for it in advance!
    E

Finally!  I wrote a reply a few hours back but the fine folks at Adobe took the site down just before I hit send!  Lucky I saved it elsewhere because the "recovered post" was only the first couple of paragraphs.
    Anyhow, take 2.
Well, first off, your Mackie Onyx mixer has a firewire interface built in so it, in effect, becomes your sound card.  The one in your computer isn't involved in the recording/playback process at all (at least not unless you're trying to do something like monitor via the computer card rather than the mixer).  Therefore, buying another sound card/interface won't help at all.
Similarly, audio dropouts aren't a latency issue, at least not directly.  Latency is the delay in the audio as it does the round trip via you sound interface (mixer) and computer.  It's more of an issue for musicians trying to be beat accurate as they over dub tracks.  However, the latency controls could be affecting your drop out problem.  The latency control in Audition is effectively controlling the buffer size--and having a larger buffer (which increases latency) also gives you playback more protection against glitches when your computer gets busy doing something else.  So...the first thing to try is increasing the latency/buffer size on the Edit/Preferences/Audio Hardware menu.
Another thing to check is that you're using the latest drivers from Mackie--check their site and download/install the latest if there are some available.  If there's a choice, go for ASIO drivers rather than MME if there are some available.
Also, I mentioned your computer getting busy with other things--for serious sound work shut down everything else on your computer.  Pay special attention to networking, wifi, and anti virus software, all of which are usualy prioritised to grab processor cycles over your sound work.  Also make sure you shut down all system sounds.
Hope at least one of these suggestions works for you.

  • Onboard Sound Cuts out after a while - anyone know why?

    Hiya peeps,
Ever since I bought my MSI motherboard, the onboard sound has been a bit dodgy.  Whenever I play games like UT2004 or halflife, the sound cuts out after several minutes of play.  It only comes back again if I restart the game, but then after a few minutes it will cut out again.  Anyone else experienced this?
I have tried altering all the game settings from safe mode sound drivers to full EAX H/W accelerated but this has made no difference to the stability of the audio.  I have been updating all the drivers to my system as and when MSI live update picks them up, os I am up to date on that front.  I have a lot of decent kit (PSU etc) in my machine and its not overclocked in any way at all.  Also I have the most up to date direct x too.
My system spec is below,  please help chaps.
PS im trying here as MSI have not responded to any of my email queries about this problem.
    Regards,
      MrG.
    CPU: P4 2.8E Prescott 800FSB (200MHz * 14.0) HT Enabled
    MEM: 1GB Corsair XMS3200C2PT Platinum CAS2
    MTB: MSI 865PE Neo2-PFISR (MS-6728) Bios V3.7
    GFX: GexCube Radeon 9800 Pro
    HDD: Hitachi Deskstar 7K250 120GB ATA-100 8MB
    PSU: Enermax EG465AX-VE(G)(FMA) 460W
OS : WinXP SP1, all drivers up-to-date and Liveupdate up-to-date
Nothing is overclocked and all BIOS setitngs are set to the defaults.

I had the same problem, this is how i fixed it:
Uninstall everything relating to the drivers for your sound from both the control panel AND the device manager, do not let windows PnP install ANY drivers. Then manually install the latest drivers, not from live update, but from MSI's website, then run the installer package. Make sure you reboot at every step, since that's what I did, and no more sound cut-out.
See, we have many of the same specs in our computers, this is probably the same issue I had.

  • Does anyone know how the cutout filter works and is there a way of achieving the same effect without using filters to get more control over final look?

does anyone know how the cutout filter works and is there a way of achieving the same effect without using filters to get more control over final look?

Several ways to get similar results.  Image > Adjustments > Posturize with low values similar to what you'd use n Cutout.  This is the most flexible way I can think of as you keep the image in RGB mode with layers intact.  A more radical approach would be to reduce bit depth using Indexed Colour.  You'll need to experiment with settings, try changing Forced to Primaries, and Matte to Foreground Color.  There's no going back from this route, although you can change the mode back to RGB to re-enable layers, adjustment layers etc.
A nice thing about the Filter gallery filters is that you can change the layer to a Smart object with all the control that gives you.
Now if only this forum could filter out bizarre content.

  • Out of Stock Control available in Turbo Lister

    Hi Turbo Lister Users,
The option to use the Out of Stock Control feature in Turbo Lister is now available in the Beta version of the program.
When deciding whether or not to be a Beta user, please keep in mind that the beta versions aren't free of bugs, nor are they fully supported. Everyone is welcome to join the Beta Program, but experienced users will benefit most from using Turbo Lister beta software.
If you would like to opt into the Beta version, please follow these steps:
    1. Open Turbo Lister
    2. Click on Tools->Options
    3. Expand Advanced Options
    4. Click on Program Updates
    5. Click the Join Beta Program button
Once you accept the terms, click on Tools->Check For Program Updates and install any updates found, if you are not automatically prompted to do so.
After the updates are installed, the program will need to be closed and re-opened.
To use the Out of Stock Control feature, you must do the following:
Turn on the feature in your My eBay.  This can be accomplished by logging into your My eBay account, hovering over the Account tab and selecting Site Preferences.  From there, expand the Sell Your Item form and listings section and check the box "Use Out of Stock Control option".  Please note that this will activate the Out Of Stock Control option for all your Active Fixed Price Good Til Canceled Listings.  The time it takes for Turbo Lister to recognize the change to your account can take a few minutes to a few hours.
Turbo Lister will then allow new Fixed Price GTC listings to be uploaded with a Qty of 0 as well as editing Active items in the Listing Activity section to set the Qty to 0.
For sellers that use File Exchange or the eBay API to set the Out Of Stock Control feature for specific listings, you only need to make sure the OutOfStockControl field is set to TRUE. (The only restriction for this option is that you will only be able to edit active items to depleat or increase the Quantity count. Creating new items would need to be done through File Exchange or the API).
For more information on the Out Of Stock Control feature, please review the following Help Page:

The "restore disk" is built into the Mac. See About Recovery.
Need more specifics about what error messages you got while installing Adobe Flash.
However, you can almost avoid Flash altogether by setting YouTube to play the HTML5 version instead.
Click the Try something new! link at the bottom of the YouTube page.
I don't know about the sound issue. Might be hardware as you think. Try other headphones to check.

  • More Control of Cache Synchronization in a Cluster?

If I understand correctly, the cache synchronization manager, by default, sends out a changeSet message to the network for any UOW write commit. Since I have a control on certain objects not using Toplink’s cache, I actually do not need the cache synchronization manger to broadcast any update on these objects. In other words, I do not want the cache synchronization manger to send out the changeSet message to the network if I only update those objects that are configured to always read from the database. In this way, I may be able to avoid some unnecessary changeSet message propagations.
My question is that whether I have a way, either in sessions.xml or in Java API, to tell the cache synchronization manger not to send out the changeSet message for a given specific UOW write commit (although I still need the data update to be committed to the database).

Many thanks for the reply and glad to see something better is on the way again!
If I choose to set the cache synchronization manager to null, do the UOW write for a given class which is always refreshed from the database, and then reset the cache synchronization manger back to the previous instance, do I need to do the following afterwards:
// must login/re-login to initialize cache synchronization
              if (session.isConnected()) {
                   session.logout();
              session.login();
to ensure the manager be reset properly?
Since the propagation of the changeSet message is triggered by the UOW, can I have more control at the UOW level to turn on/off the cache synchronization manager?
If I understand correctly, in Toplink 10.1.3, I can configure the cache synchronization manger globally at the session level, and also have the option in the same application to set a given number of classes not be cache synchronized in a cluster at the descriptor level to overrule the session global settings. I should not have to choose one over the other. Once these are done in configurations, what is the reason that I still have to choose either to send the changeSet or to invalidate the message?

  • Headphones usage on Satellite A660-BT2G22 -sound plays out of the speakers

When I plug headphones into my Satellite A660-BT2G22 Laptop the sound plays out of the speakers and the headphones.
There has to be a way for me to make the sound play only through the headphones and I would really love that because I am going off to college soon and will have a roommate and I will want to listen to my own music and stuff and not force him to hear my stuff all the time.
    Please help?

This notebook model is not known to me but check control panel and option for some audio manager there. On notebooks with Realtek sound card there is Realtek HD Audio manager.
Check all options there, especially small folder symbol placed at the right top side. When you click on it connector settings window will be open. Enable auto popup dialog.
Now, every time when headphones will be connected you can choose headphone as only device you want to use.
    Please check it out.

  • POP sound come out from air vent

Hi every mac user out there,
My MacBook pro 15 inch recently don't know why, start to have a pop sound out from the back of my MacBook pro's air vent, this started after I open the below case just for checking(because last time I saw a little tiny bug going inside!), after that I heard the pop sound, in early state, sound I quite loud so I think maybe is my hand or some other thing make it, then a few day ago, there still has a pop sound but just a small sound from the vent, after about 5min of usage it will show up, any idea?
Note:my mac does not has any dust inside the fans or the vent, I haven't do any battery calibration or any rmc or NVRAM reset recently, I not over use my mac only does when editing some movie and play game ,does this affect them?

I also have this problem with my Extreme Gamer Fatilty X-Fi. In 6 channel direct mode 5. works perfectly but if I switch to the SPDIF mode connected to that Creative Digital I/O addon thing the rear left and rear right sound comes out of the front right and front left. This is with the latest drivers. I tried a clean re-install of the drivers and apps using driver cleaner but the sound is still messed up.
I guess thats an improvement in for me. With Vista 64, SPDIF didn't even work at all till the more recent drivers, so I guess you could call it progress, creative style.
I am lucky I have little need for SPDIF with this card as its not a main source of movies/TV for me. This system is mostly used for gaming, and at least that works good. Had I needed this for a HTPC or something I would be very very pissed off. If I had paid for that DDL thing I would be livid having already paid for their $4 Digital adapter addon which is rendered worthless.

Clean out/blow out the headphone jack. Insert/remove the heaphone plug a dozen times or so
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
