Sound media (.wav) file no longer working

Is there a place where you can get a list of media types that are supported in 1.3, specifically .wav files? I need 1.3 rather than 1.2 as the .wav sound file I am using worked in 1.2, but now doesn't :-(
MediaError: media unsupported:com.sun.media.jmc.MediaUnsupportedException: Unsupported media: jar:file:/C:/dev/cmts/dist/cmts.jar!/cmts/applic/resources/buzzer.wav
It happens in the onError() function of javafx.scene.media.Media.
I used to get lovelly buzzer sounds and now there is only silence. Should I convert the file to another format? If anyone has any recommendations on the way to proceed that would be great.
thanks - Chris

It's like if suddendly Adobe would decide that it is impossible to put sound, soundtracks or movies into a SWF. Or as I when I bought Mass Effect Galaxy (not a good game by the way) on the Apple App Store, instead of installling a wooping 110MB+ on my ipod Touch, instead EA and Bioware would have had me streaming the Mass Effect music and the game 's small video and voice acting sequence out of their web site each time I was playing... that would have been laughable.. especially considering the speed of the Internet over there...
Furthermore it's not a technical limitation or they'd have to seriously decrease the capabilities of the JVM by the time Java 7 comes out.
I just hope that someone (JFXtras) would come up with a new Media implementation using the good old ClassPath access to overcome this "but how did they came up with that crazy idea" limitation.
Yes in some case streaming is good but yes in some other cases, providing a fully enclosed packaged app is way better. We want both options!

  • .WAV files no longer readable after Yosemite update

    The issue:
I recently did the switch to Yosemite. I now find some .WAV files to be no longer readable through FCP X, Preview app, QT, etc. BUT, I can open them through VLC, and also Soundtrack Pro. The problem:
An FCP X project with this .WAV files has already been edited, with multiple cuts (46 to be exact) throughout the 35 minute timeline. The file is still visible on timeline with all cuts but is now silent. Looking to relink that audio with a working file. The original files' timecode starts at 09:46:30:09, with 7 channels of audio. What I tried to do:
Open in Soundtrack Pro and simply "Save as" a new .wav file. Still not readable. Then brought the original file in to a new Multitrack Project in Soundtrack Pro, exported to .wav, which is now readable by all programs, but cant be relinked since info are not matched (channel count and timecode) "Incompatible file.
The original file and new file have different audio source and channel counts.
Relinked files must have the same media type and similar audio channels as the original files, and must be long enough to cover all the clips that reference the files."
    My system:
    FCPX (10.1.3)
    OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) iMac (27 inch, Late 2012)
    3.4 GHz Intel Core i7
    32 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2048 MB

Thanks Martin. Thats just what I'm going to do. For the record, I have been dealing with Apple support concerning this issue for the last month. It's been a frustrating and exhaustive process and the outcomes has been underwhelming to say the least:
It seems that under OSX Yosemite, Apple Core Audio , which plays audio in all the apple apps: QT, iTunes, FCPX, Logic Pro X etc, can no longer read multi-track WAV files larger than 2GBs. I tested this extensively myself, and the support staff member I was dealing with was able to re-create the problem at his end.
Apps that do not use Core Audio CAN play the WAV files: QT7, Adobe Premiere, Audacity etc.
Using this information the support member helping me escalated the issue to the Apple developers teams for both FCPX and OSX. He said he was really unimpressed by their response, and that while they acknowledged that there 'may' be an issue with Core Audio they didn't care enough to investigate it. He said that while a fix may come in the future there is no timeline for it to happen. He said he wasn't allowed to recommend that I downgrade, but he then rather embarrassingly admitted that I have no choice if I want to have a functioning project again.
Which makes a mockery of my decision to use FCP over Premiere based on the assumption that Apple would better support their software. FCP has pretty much ****** me off right from the start with its babyish interface and glitchy behaviour. Now I have to downgrade my system to Mavericks, in order to limp to the finishing line with this edit, before I will be ridding myself of this junk for good.

  • HTTP Streaming WAV audio no longer works with quicktime 7.7.3  OSX or 7.7.5 in windows

The latest revisions of quicktime (as plugin) no longer play our webservice's streamed audio files.  The audio is simply encoded wav all javascript hooks seem to work properly, but there is no resulting audio output. Reverting to previous revisions of quicktime on the same platforms restores the expected behavior.
The files are streamed over authenticated HTTPS connections and are encoded as "RIFF (little-endian) data, WAVE audio, ITU G.711 mu-law, stereo 8000 Hz".  If the file is downloaded to the local machine, the quicktime player application has no problems playing the audio.  Similarly, dropping a file: URL to the download into the web browser also plays correctly. The issue started with Quicktime 7.7.3 on OSX with Safari (Yosemite) and 7.7.5 on Windows (Chrome and Firefox). Mavericks and previous Windows quicktime plugins work correctly.  This is especially problematic for our Mac OS clients because we have not been able to identify a current working combination or a functional downgrade path other than to downgrade the OS to Mavericks.
Any suggestions or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Jon, I read.  But the links to websites are not playing on a Windows7 computer. Can you tell me why they are not?
I believe that with a new dawn comes new understanding of the problem.
I do not have access to a Windows 7 computer nor do I run Windows on my Mac.
I am not a web coding programmer. However...
Neither of the original poster's links (http://openmap.bbn.com/~mthome/quicktimeaudio.html and http://openmap.bbn.com/~mthome/wavtest.wav) work because they both point to the same HTML (quicktimeaudio.html) file.
The HTML file looks like this:
This file appears to look for the QT plug-in to see if QT is installed, if the version is v7.7.6, and whether or not the WAV extension is supported.
When I click on either link, this is what I see:
    Although I am running:
the browser display shown above indicates the HTML code thinks that QT is not installed rather than being the wrong version and then, instead of terminating the browser processing and displaying the correct error message, the HTML code falls through to a display of the audio media controller and automatically starts playback. Unfortunately, since confirmation of WAV playback support was skipped (or for some other reason), the QT plug-in does not access the required codec (or fails to send the data to the handler) and no audio is heard when playing the WAV audio file. In short, even though I am not a web programmer, I believe the main issue here is the coding of the HTML file.
When I "re-containered" the original poster's WAV file and posted it on my own server, I created a URL link that actually pointed to the WAV resource and not to the HTML file code as did the OP's secondary link. Thus, when I accessed the audio file, I did so directly via the plug-in, by-passing the HTML file code issue and allowing the file data to play correctly in Safari under both Yosemite and IOS 8.
Believe the HTML file needs to be re-coded to fix the problem. I can now play the original 8-bit µ-law encoded WAV file in players and Safari but believe the OP here should consider a more modern compression format/file container combination that would allow him to abandon use of the QT player plug-in to maintain compatibility with "plug-in free" browsers. For instance, would HTML5 coding be able to play AAC encoded content in MOV, MP4, M4V, and/or M4A file containers? Once again, questions like this are beyond my expertise and need to be answered by someone proficient in this area.

  • The sound on my iphone no longer works, nor do the buttons at the side that turn sound on and off/volume control. But weirdly, you can play music without headphones. Tried restore and jack in and out. No luck... any ideas?

The sound on/off  button onthe side of my iPhone no longer works, nor do the volume buttons. All sound has disappeared from the phone apart from the Music which still plays. Have tried th Restore and restart phone plus have plugged and unplugged phone jack. No luck  - any idea anyone?

One thing that helped was getting a toothbrush and scrubbing the dock connector on the phone.  I scrubbed the connector and used compressed air for about 1/2 hour till the connector looked much cleaner.  An Apple employee told me that the pins on the phone had a little corrosion and sand.  The problem hasn't gone away completely, but has been significantly reduced.  I'm going to hold out until my contract expires after which time I'll switch to an iPhone5 (or newer) or Android phone.

  • AAC files no longer work

I have 865 AAC files which no longer work.
These are in iTunes but no longer play. Can't really say when they quit but noticed it tonight and went thru them all.
If I view them in the Finder, they don't play with Quicklook or by preview in the Finder window.
No other application will play them (VLC, QuickTime).
In the Finder, it shows them as an MPEG-4 Audio File. The extension is .m4a, which is an AAC.
    Icon is correct.
In iTunes, when I get info, everything is on the left side of the Summary tab but right side is blank. It should have the Profile, channels and Encoded with: (iTunes and QT version).
Looking at file properties in VLC, everthing except the name is blank (arist, genre, etc.).
    Bit rates are different (128, 160, 192, 256 VBR).
Dates added and modified are from 2005 to a few weeks ago.
    Single songs to whole albums.
Some iTunes DRM, some iTunes plus and some imported from CDs.
I'm running 10.5.7 on the internal drive and my iTunes folder is on another drive on a 10.4.11 partiton.
I have copies of these files on another drive and comparing them in the Finder, they have the same creation and mod dates. They are the same number of bytes.
The only difference is one works and one doesn't.
Ran Disk First Aid and Permissions repair on both drives.

Not in figuring out what happened.
I copied the files from a backup drive to the original drive replacing the files and everything works fine.
Okay now, here's something really whack.
I had dumped all the files into the trash but have not empied it yet.
I installed 10.5.8 yesterday and it works great.
However, now looking at the song files in the trash, they all play correctly with Quick Look (spacebar).

  • Old .idx files no longer working

Old .idx files (index files) that worked with Reader 9 no longer work with Reader XI.  Because of this, I have not upgraded beyond Reader 9, but I love the new XI. Is there any way of converting the old .idx file so that they will work in XI?  (is there a simple upgrade tool?)

Latest iPhoto, v.9.5. New Library: same result. But all files that iPhoto balks at ('sees' them, but warning exclamation point and not opened) open happily in Preview.
(A thought: maybe I should try Loom. But iPhoto really should be able to handle these files if Preview can.)

  • .avi files no longer work in quicktime

hi. I recently reinstalled Mac OS X 10.4.11 and now .avi files don't work work in quicktime player. The timer along the bottom still counts what looks to be the right time, but there is no sound or picture, except with other file types, it seems (or at least with .mpg 's it's OK, they're the only file types I've tried) I've got VLC player, so it's obviously not a massive inconvenience, but it's irking me and I wondered if anyone could help me out.

You probably need to download and install Perian from http://perian.org/

    Hello,
    thank you for your Help.
But I just want to read a Binary File, which is build by another program. And this is coded with 8Bit (like a normal Binary File) and not just with 7Bit (ASCII). So the workaround doesn't work in my case.
I posted the Test-VI in my first post (here once again as picture). And it works fine on the PC, but if I try it on my MCB2400 the "Read Form Binary File" Node doesn't work.
And it is also possible to open the Bin file with the "Read Text File" Node and see the cryptic content of the Bin-File. So the Problem seems to be in the "Read Form Binary File" Node.
    bye & thanks again

  • Cr2 files no longer work

All of my cr2 files no longer open in camera raw. This is roughly 1000 files.
The setup used to take these 1000 cr2 files was a Canon T3i in conjunction with Capture One and a tethered USB cable.
Suddenly today not a single file can be opened in ACR. I usually just drop the .cr2 file on CS6 in dock and it opens camera raw. I now get the message "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file.". If I instead go open cs6 > file > open > enable: camera raw > open.. it says the same thing.
I haven't change anything in my setup. Same camera, same tethered cable, same Capture One...
Even if I did change something, it shouldn't affect the cr2 files I generated 6 months ago?

When I go Help > About Plug-ins > Camera Raw  I do not see "About Plug-Ins".

  • .move files no longer working now I'm in Vista

I have vid projects made in Premiere Elements 2. I've upgraded my computer, and of course was forced to now use Vista. I discovered Elements 2 didn't work on the machine - looked like it was working, but was unable to save.
Fine, so I've upgraded to Elements 4. But I still have the same problem - The projects which worked perfectly well in Elements 2 do not work in Elements 4 on Vista. The vid files for the projects are .mov files. Just now I saw an error when trying to use a downloaded vid converter--it said no Quick Time codec was found. That was never an issue on my old computer--Vista doesn't come with .mov codecs?
I've looked and looked, am confused, am very frustrated I can't finish my work on these projects. I MUST be able to open these again and continue work in Elements 4 on my new Vista machine.
    Desperate for solutions. Thank you.
    Randy B.

    Randy,
One thing that QuickTime (QT) allows one to do is use "reference" files. Basically, one will have a MOV file, with is only a proxy and requires the actual files (from which it was created) to be available. This is *probably* what you have with the MOV and the "numbered files." The MOV is the reference, or proxy, and the numbered files are what it references. I'll often see a folder with 1 MOV (small in comparison) and then dozens of larger MP4 (or other MOV) files, that the proxy MOV file references and needs to play. Without them, it has nothing to reference.
Point two: on a Mac, QT has a "professional" CODEC (forget the exact name of it now), which is often used by Final Cut Pro (FCP, Apple only). This CODEC is not available on PC. When a file has gone through FCP, it needs to be Exported to a format that is cross-platform. A lot of FCP users do not realize this and just do as they normally will - Export to the default. Unfortunately, PC users cannot use these files, because the CODEC is not even available for the PC.
I'd ask that the files be re-Exported to DV-AVI and your problems will very likely go away. If this cannot be done, then ask that they be Exported to "self-contained" MOV files, hi-rez, but with a universal CODEC, not something like H.264, which is very popular but the file will be highly compressed, to start.
As for the MOV files playing in WMP, something is wrong there, very wrong. WMP does not play MOV files. Now, some other players, like VLC Player, and Media Player Classic, might be able to play some, but not all. What version of QT do you have? I just upgraded to 7.5.5 (249.13), which was the latest as of last week. I do have the QT Pro version (on all machines), but I noticed that 7.5.5 included a few CODECs that my older version (about 7.3) did not. These were automatically installed on the system (more on that later). The problem versions seem to have been around 7.4.1. They gave all Adobe programs fits, not just PE. It *seems* that Apple has fixed, whatever was broken. Main things that the QT Pro version allows is rudimentary editing (basically file joining, with just a very little more), and Export to various formats and various CODECs. Regular QT is just a player with a bunch of advertising hung on it. Unfortunately, the Pro version does not dispense with that advertising [sigh].
Now to CODECs. These are little appelets (often .dll's) that need to be installed on the system and registered. Once done, they are available to all programs, that use CODECs. You don't need to move anything. However, some CODECs will establish a "priority" for their use. While they do not overwrite other CODECs, they will set their priority higher, and this can fritz with some programs, which expect b THEIR
CODECs to have priority for certain formats. This can get tricky to go in and re-set these priority flags. There are some utilities, that can do it, or one can hack the Registry - not a good thing, unless one knows exactly what they doing and have a backup of the Registry.
This is one reason for only installing CODECs that are needed, as some can mess up existing CODECs. CODEC "packs" are notorious for ruining good ones. Also most of the CODECs contained in the packs are hacked, or reverse-engineered versions of real CODECs and are often poorly implemented. Some CODEC packs even contain malware.
Now back to the Reference (Proxy) MOV files. These are often used in NLE's, that support them, as a way to edit by proxy, so that the changes can be made to the full version, when done. This method requires few resources, because the files being edited are just placeholders for the real data. Adobe NLE's do not allow Proxy file editing.
In your case, I think you need to go back to the camera person and ask for the footage to be Exported to something that all NLE's, and all platforms, can use, like DV-AVI with 48KHz 16-bit PCM/WAV Audio. That will solve your problems with these files. Next would be to get the latest QT, and upgrade it to Pro (~US$40). Unless the QuickTime Professional (not inculded, or available for any PC) CODEC was used, you should be able to handle/Export them. If that one CODEC was used, you're hosed. Only a Mac with that CODEC can work with the files. You might find a post-production facility locally, that has it, and can make the conversion for you to DV-AVI. DV-AVI is
    i "virtually"
lossless. It certainly beats having files that cannot be edited on a PC.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
[Edited to add] If you old system worked with these files in PE2 perfectly, but your new system (Vista) with PE4 does not, it probably rules out the QT Professional CODEC (wish I could recall the name). What it does mean is that your old system had the proper CODECs installed, and your new system does not - very common occurance. Try the newest QT version 7.5.5, or greater, and see if it installs the proper CODECs. Next make sure that you do
    b NOT
delete any files from the folders with the reference files. It is but a shell, a little database, a proxy and does not contain any Audio, or Video, data. It absolutely needs the rest. If you upgrade to QT Pro, you can launch your reference file in QT Player, and Pause it. Then Export, and at the least choose a Self-Contained MOV file,
    b NOT
    a reference file.

  • Media Encorder CS6 no longer works as it did

I have CS6 Master Collection on a Windows 7x64 Ultimate HP Z820, 32 GB RAM, Quadro 4000, and have been using it for over a year. I use Premiere Pro and batch Queue to Media Encoder for encoding. The last time I used this workflow for batch was about 130 days ago, and it worked like a charm (like it should). A couple of weeks ago, I was on another project and tried to batch again, just like before, even using some of the same presets (on a 'nothin fancy' timeline) and Pr would create a project file in the TEMP folder after I pressed the Queue button, and AME would launch, and the project would appear in the AME queue. I'd press start, and wait a long time, until finally in the Encorder panel, I'd see "Connecting to Dynamic Link Server...", after several minutes, I'd get the goat, and find an error of "Could not read source file..." in the logs. After verifying the source was indeed there, I decided this was really a dynamic link issue.
Here are a few more data points from things I've tried (also pointing to a dynamic link issue).
    (1) Exporting (encoding) directly from Pr works fine (so the headless AME is working)
    (2) Importing a Pr Sequence within AME does not work either, I get an error from the Import Premiere Pro Sequence dialog (after a long wait “Connecting to Dynamic Link server…”) that “Connecting to Dynamic Link server failed”.
I do suspect this is a dynamic link issue, but don't know why, or what has changed. I've tried the 'create a new Premiere shortcut in dynamiclink folder' solution found on the forums and Google, but it didn't work. When I first tried that, I did find two shortcuts already there, one for Pr and one for Ae, but BOTH of them pointed to a CS4 folder! I've never owned CS4, and went from CS3 Design Professional to CS6 Master Collection. I also suspect this issue was caused by one of the updates to Pr that occurred within the last 130 days (since the last time I know this functionality worked). I've made not changes to my system during that time.
Kyle suggested that it could be firewall problem blocking the TCP traffic used by dynamic link, but I do not use Windows Firewall, and all of this happens on a single machine, so there should be no TCP traffic across the wire (unless it is communicating with Adobe?). I use Webroot Endpoint Protection, but have received no indication that anything is suspect or has been blocked. Any help from the Adobe engineers would be greatly appreciated.
I'd be willing to assist with troubleshooting on my system, as I've done with Audition in the past, but really don't want to uninstall the suite and go through that again. This should be tracked down by looking at the updates pushed out to CS6 withing the last 130 days. I think there have been two.
    Thanks,
    Shane

    Gina,
I've resolved my problem thanks to another posts on this forum. It turned out to be the NVidia nView Desktop Manager applet found in the Control Panel. It was enabled, and I believe it has been enabled for a long time. I don't know if something in a recent update broke things, but as soon as I disabled the Desktop Manager, my dynamic link started working again in all aspects. Give it a try. Good luck.
The following was a description of the problem I was having from another post:
I have the same problem. All of this functionality worked before (at least about 130 days ago), but there have been at least two updates to Pr since that time.
Here are a few more data points. (Win 7 x64 Ultimate on HP Z820 32 GB RAM, Quadro 4000 CS6 Master Collection)
    (1) Exporting using Queue in Pr CS6 to batch in AME creates the project file in a TEMP directory, and launches AME and adds the file to the Queue. When I press start, it sits a LONG time, then finally in the Encoding panel, I get the "Connecting to Dynamic Link Server...", until it fails with the error "Can't read source file..."
    (2) Exporting directly from Pr works fine (so headless AME is working)
    (3) Importing a Pr Sequence within AME does not work, I get an error from the Import Premiere Pro Sequence dialog (after a long wait “Connecting to Dynamic Link server…”) that “Connecting to Dynamic Link server failed”.
I suspect this is a dynamic link issue, but don't know where. I've tried the 'create a new Premiere shortcut in dynamicilnk folder' solution, but it didn't work.

  • My file no longer works... any ideas/help?

I'm pretty new to FC and am doing this project for class (I'm a Media Arts student at the University of Montana). I completely finished the project and when I went to save FC crashed, now FC crashes everytime I open the file.
I'll attach if anyone wants to look at it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    -Kyle

    Hi Kyle,
I took a look at your file and the problem is your "Button16" component is self-referential: it looks like you dragged a Buton16 into the skin definition of Button16 itself.  So each Button16 contains another Button16 which contains another Button166 which contains... you get the idea.  Catalyst should be preventing you from doing this, but in beta 2 it doesn't.
I've hand-corrected the code in your project, and it now opens correctly.  I've attached the corrected FXP -- let me know if it works for you.
The file is still pretty slow to open, though, I suspect because you have so many states.  One thing you could do to cut down on this is to use an Action eqauence to show/hide your dark gray video popup rather than having a separate state for each possible place it could appear.  This should basically cut in half the number of states you have, making not only it faster but also easier to do editing (since you don't have two copies -- with video and without video -- of each state to keep in sync with each other).
    Hope that helps,
    - Peter
