Spark Video Player pause / resume loading

I am developing an application that loads many images and sounds in the background.
When a page containing still unloaded content is requested, the current background load
is canceled in order to free all of the user's available bandwidth to load the requested page
content as soon as possible.
Now video files are big and I would not want to cancel a video load after 50MB because of a
page request and load the video all over again, when the user returns to the video page.
Two questions regarding the issue:
1. Is loader.close() sufficient to stop a file from loading or do I have to destroy the Loader instance?
2. Is it possible to pause loading of a big (video)file and resume loading when appropriate in the Spark VideoPlayer component?

HTML5 video player won't load YouTube videos (and probably nothing else either)

When I request that YouTube use the HTML5 video player for videos, no videos will load - I have to switch to Adobe Flash for anything to play. The page for a video will finish loading and I'll just sit there watching the loading spiral of death ceaselessly. I've tried a number of suggestions from other threads with similar issues and nothing's helped.
- Safe Mode does NOT fix the problem (so it's not an add-on or script issue)
- Clearing cookies/cache does not work
- Toggling the media.windows-media-foundation.enabled setting does nothing
- Disabling hardware acceleration also does nothing
I'm at my wit's end. Flash will hang and crash REALLY often so I don't want to use it, but it's the only thing that works for YouTube. Please help.

You have to download and install Adobe Flash. Flash is not pre-installed.

Spark Video Player path problem

Hi,
I am trying to play a flv video in my flex application.I tried to put the video file in local packages (asset, video subpages..etc), but i did not work at all.
When I put the video into root folder, which is called "src" by default and also in my application as well, it plays the video properly in my development environment (Flash Builder 4). But at that time, It didn't work properly after exporting the application as a release build output.
I stuck with the problem, any help will be appricated.

First of all do you the files on a server where i can test it as well?
You can post a link and I can debug it.
Now if you are planning to run the swf locally all the time with the video siiting next to it, then you need to put this into the compiler argument
-use-network=false
this will allow the swf to load the video when tested on the stand alone Flash player, not only on the web browser.
However this won't allow you to run the swf locally and "pull" the video from a remote server.
e.g I have a swf that runs locally not on a browser, setup as above, and the video is hosted in my web server.
Here in thsi case Flash Player stops me from playing the video for security reasons.
So you have to options assuming that I understood correctly and you are planning to deploy the swf as standalone (by that I mean you are going to give to the customers the swf and they can run it locally by doubleclicking it on their computers):
a.
if you are giving them the video as well (all packaged in teh same folder) then you should go with -use-network=false
e.g the swf plays locally and video is located next to the swf, same folder structure you defined in your app, both in the clients computer.
b.
if you don't want to give the video to the clients but only the swf and then host the video on a remote server online, then you should be ok
e.g the swf plays locally and the video is "pulled" form a remote server like "http://www.domainname.com/videos/video.flv" (don't forget to put in the source of the VideoDisplay the absolute path.

Video Audio Pauses/Resumes on Playback

I have recently bought a brand new 5G 30GB iPod, my first one and I'm very impressed.
I have but one issue I think I already know the answer to, but I wondered if anyone else experiences it.
If you use iTunes to mark your music videos up as music videos, they then appear as Audio only in the song list. If you play one of these, the song pauses for approximately a second for a couple of times per song, then resumes.
I should imagine this is because even if you're playing just the audio component you have to read the entire video file anyway and the memory of the iPod is limited to 32megs so once this is empty, the audio pauses until the drive refils the RAM with the remaining video file? Just a guess but I wonder why they offer playback of the audio of the file if it cannot do so without skipping due to the memory running out.

Buffer size for spark video player

is there any way to control the buffer length in spark videoplayer component ?

Accessing the variable and setting it works for me. Here's a simple example:

One thing to note is that videoDisplay isn't always around as it's part of the skin. So I can access it at creationComplete time, but I can't access it at pre-initialize time. To debug your particular null pointer exception, I'd have to see code, but my guess is it's with videoDisplay. But you can hop in to the debugger and figure out what's null. It's also a great way to figure out what properties are around and available to you.

Using the native iOS video player?

I would like to learn more about using the iOS native video player in my Adobe Air app.
I understand that you can launch the native iOS video player by using StageWebView.
What are some of the limitations of using the native IOS player with this method?
Can I not limit the user's control of the playback controls so the user cannot fastforward thru an ad video?
Once the video is done, can I auto start to a new video?
When the user clicks the DONE/BACK button, can I close the StageWebView?
Are there other ways to launch the iOS native player instead of using StageWebView?
Is anyone creating a Native Extension for the iOS native video player?
If you were to create an app using native iOS code instead of Adobe AIR, what can you do with the native player that you can't control using Adobe Air?

Hi, Jack:
My answers are based on what I have done:
other than stageWebView, you can load native player from native UIWebview, and probably (I guess) directly open a video players.
If you do it from UIWebview, you can have the full access control of the video player, and interaction between Flex and Objective-c is also supported.
Regarding what we can do with the native player, I say we can do anything we want if it's loaded on the UIWebview.
Let's say 'pause', you can make your native player to be paused in the flex code, besides directly click the pause button. The simple workflow is:
Mapping 'pause' function to a objective-c function which triggers the native videoplayer pause function. One situation would be that you have HTML5 page only contains a video player, and java script functions to control the video (player pause, fullscreen etc).
Therefore, you can just call those javascript functions from objective-c.
You can also get information back from objective-c. Let's say you wanna do something after the video is finished, so the objective-c call javascript to listen end info of the video. then objective-c pass this information back to flex as an event. The Flex side catches this event and maps this event into Flex event for your use.
If there is a way to direcly invoke native player, those steps above will be much simpler, but I haven't tried. I am sure someone is doing that, hopefully they can answer you here.

Why cant i import a video from toast video player to imovie?

Assuming it is the standard DVD format of mpeg2: (if it isn't post back with further details)
You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:

Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.

From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it.
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

Player no longer loads on some video sites

I've suddenly been having trouble playing videos on several video sites that worked perfectly for me before. The player simply never loads. All I get is a blank space where the player is supposed to load. It doesn't load on Gorillavid, Videoweed, Megavideo, nor Vimeo. But YouTube, Sockshare, Putlocker, and Videobb are still working.
I'm on Windows XP 32-bit, running Firefox 3.6.6. I had Adobe Player 11-something running, but when I tried to download the latest version, the system prompted me to download version 10.3.183.11. I figured maybe my computer isn't compatible with the new version, so I uninstalled 11, and installed the older version. This had no effect on my problem.

I would prefer not to update Firefox, if at all possible. The last update I did caused me several months of work to adjust to various changes developers had made to various features. My browser never returned to its full functionality, and if YouTube hadn't forced me to update, I would have gone back to an older version.
I should also say that I have difficulty with many updates these days because my laptop simply doesn't have the resources required to run some of the newer versions (I'm not sure if this is relevant to the newer version of Firefox, but this is a general problem I run into), because I run on 256 MB RAM, and don't have the means to increase that.
When I go to the Adobe Player download page the version I have running now, 10.3.183.11, is the only one that I'm being offered. I have no idea how I managed to get version 11 previously, but I see no way to download it from the download page. It defaults to the old version automatically.
Under Display Adapter it says: NVIDIA GeForce2 Go (Microsoft Corporation). The driver version is 5.6.7.3

Elements 12 video player automatically pauses & video time line

Hi Everyone,
I'm trying to use Premier elements 12 to do a few things & cannot find the answer to a few questions I have & was hoping someone could help me
1) When using the elements video player (one built in) if I start to play a video, it's automatically pauses after about 7 seconds. Is there a way to have it not auto pause?
2) When I bring in a video & look at the "Video1" bar, I notice the video only shows for about 30 seconds & then there is a blue space. How do I get the video clip to show thru out (in the Video1 bar) ?

What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 12 running on? Could use that information if we get into any computer specific Q&A details.
I think that we need to start with
a. What are the properties of what you are importing into your project, such as...
video compression
audio compression
frame size
frame rate
interlaced or progressive
file extension
pixel aspect ratio
We need that information as it relates to the next question. We could direct you to video audio properties readout program for the information but let us try to get the necessary information from knowledge of the brand/model/settings of the camera that recorded the video.
b. What is the project preset that you or the program is setting to match the properties of the source video?
(See Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and tell us what you see for Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Rate, Pixel Aspect Ratio - even if the
fields look grayed out).
c. When you are playing your Timeline content in the Edit area monitor is there an orange line over its content.
d. To the left of the name "Video 1" is a filmstrip icon. That represents the video display style. It has 4 different display types. You toggle to get the display type that you want - assumed the one where video thumbnails populate the whole Timeline clip's duration. That is the display type which is seen in the above screenshot. So, one click at a time on the filmstrip icon until you get the preferred video display style. The audio tracks also have display styles - only two different ones not four like the video display style. (For audio, see the speaker icon to the left of the name "Audio 1")
Please review, consider, and supply the necessary information. Then we will sort through the details to discover the core of your reported issue.

Any examples for loading a Flash video player into a JavaScript layer?

I want to build a web page with a button that when clicked opens up a javascript layer and loads a flash player inside that layer. And that layer would need a close button. Does anyone know of any tutorials to help me do this?

I have a fast computer and my webpages load really, really fast. I have FireFox 4 browser and a Vista Home Premium 64-bit OS. So I don't have a slow computer or web browser. But these slow YouTube vids take way too long to load for some reason.

To post the full stats from your router
for home hub - 192.168.1.254

Why can't Firefox cannot load certain applications on certain sites like a whole chatroom, video player or the reply box on a forum?

When I was ask to join this site ( the mozilla support site), firefox was unable to display the register or log in page, all i saw was the page getting darker and an unmoving white rectangle.
Also when I got certain site to watch a video like animefreak.com the video player will never appear, I have to use internet explorer to watch it.
There are some sites where the chatroom simply doesn't appear and others where I can't even use the reply box in the forum

Recently both the Yahoo! Toolbar extension and the Babylon extension have been reported to cause an issue like that. Disable or uninstall those add-ons.

Player pauses and skips with .mp4 files from video camera

As you will tell, I'm a total novice at this video stuff. I just purchased this new Sanyo HD1 video camera. It creates .MP4 files and says they can be played with QuickTime (included with on the CD!). When I play the clips with QT, I get terrible playback - video/audio pauses and large chucks of video just drops. I've tried the clips on a variesty of high end machines (latest version of QT) with the same results. Interestingly enough, if you use the product that also comes on the CD for viewing (ULead) - everything looks smooth. I'd rather use QuickTime and go Pro for those features if I can get it to work. Suggestions?

I also have this same problem and have found I can get the file to play if I select the "add to selection and scale" option under the edit tab. However when I exit and save the option I still have to select the option on the same file the next time I open it in order to get the file to play.
What is the fix?
