Special Column names in SQL Server

Hi,
I am trying to use ODI to load data from SQL Server to Oracle. My problem is having special column names in the old SQL Server database. The columns have names such as 9500Column1. I tried enclosing the names with square barckets in the model definition but it did not work.
Any ideas? Any modifications I might make to the LKM?
Nimrod

Try enclosing the special fields in double quotes instead of [ and ]. Yes, that isn't the T-SQL standard, but it works, even in SS Studio.
I had a SELECT statement in a Procedure that died when it hit a space in the column name. After hours of unsuccessful attempts to escape [ and ] it occurred to me that maybe " and " would do the trick as that is the PL/SQL standard. I think the proverbial feather could have knocked me over. Or was that me kicking my self in the rear?

  • Variable database name in SQL Server query using Oracle database link

    Hi All,
    I have an ApEx 4.1 app running on 11g x64 (11.2.0.1) on Windows Server 2008 x64, and I have some data integration points with a SQL Server (2005 and 2008) that I need to establish. I have configured the database link with dg4odbc and it works beautifully... I can execute queries against the SQL Server database without any problems using the database link.
    However, there is a scenario where the SQL Server database name is dynamic, and I need to generate it on the fly in a PL/SQL block, and then use that in a dynamic SQL query (all of this in ApEx). This is where I run into problems... when I am querying the default database based on the ODBC connection and I don't have to specify the database name, there is no issue. But when I need to access one of several other non-default databases, I keep receiving the "invalid table" error.
    This runs fine:* (note that "fv" is the name of my database link)
    v_query1 := 'select "ReleaseDate" from dbo.Schedules@fv where dbo.Schedules."SchedID" = :schedule';
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE v_query1 into rel_date using schedule;
    I then take that rel_date variable, convert to a varchar2 (rel_date_char), and then use it as the database name in the next query...
    This returns an error_ (Error ORA-00903: invalid table name)
    v_query2 := 'select "PARTNO" from :rel_date_char.dbo.ProdDetails@fv where "SchedID" = :schedule and "UnitID" = :unit
    and "MasterKey" = :master and "ParentKey" = :parent';
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE v_query2 into part_number using schedule, unit, master, parent;
    I have also tried using all of the following to no avail:
    'select "PARTNO" from ' || :rel_date_char || '.dbo.ProdDetails@fv where "SchedID"...
    'select "PARTNO" from ' || rel_date_char || '.dbo.ProdDetails@fv where "SchedID"...
    'select "PARTNO" from ' || @rel_date_char || '.dbo.ProdDetails@fv where "SchedID"...
    'select "PARTNO" from @rel_date_char.dbo.ProdDetails@fv where "SchedID"...
    Is there a way to do this in PL/SQL?
    Thanks for any help!

    Now using variables to perform the select:
    SQL> declare
    2 val varchar2(100);
    3 c integer;
    4 nr integer;
    5 tabname varchar2(20) :='EMP';
    6 ownr varchar2(20) :='dbo';
    7 dbname varchar2(20) :='gateway';
    8 begin
    9 c:= dbms_hs_passthrough.open_cursor@FREETDS_DG4ODBC_EMGTW_11_2_0_3;
    10 dbms_hs_passthrough.parse@FREETDS_DG4ODBC_EMGTW_11_2_0_3 (c, 'SELECT count(*) FROM '||dbname||'.'|| ownr || '.'||tabname||'');
    11 LOOP
    12 nr:= DBMS_Hs_Passthrough.fetch_row@FREETDS_DG4ODBC_EMGTW_11_2_0_3(c);
    13 exit when nr=0;
    14 dbms_hs_passthrough.get_value@FREETDS_DG4ODBC_EMGTW_11_2_0_3(c,1,val);
    15 dbms_output.put_line(val);
    16 end loop;
    17 dbms_hs_passthrough.close_cursor@FREETDS_DG4ODBC_EMGTW_11_2_0_3(c);
    18 end;
    19 /
    24576
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    => instead of executing the statement using "execute Immediate" we have to use PASTHROUGH package to pass the statement to the SQL Server.

  • Using select list value as column name in SQL

    Folks,
    Thanks in advance for any help with this
    I have a select list with two values (Instance and Username) created by
    STATIC2:Username;USERNAME,Instance;INSTANCE
    I am trying to pass the value of this (:P2_SELECT) and use it as a column name in a SQL query as below
    select USERNAME,
    INSTANCE
    from table_name
    where :P2_SELECT like '%'||:P2_TEXTSEARCH||'%'
    When I substitue the :P2_SELECT for one of the values (either instance or username) this works fine
    I suspect it is due to how Application Express interprets the value of :P2_SELECT
    Any help would be much appreciated!
    Gareth

    Thanks Munky that worked a treat!
    The next hurdle I have now is that because I have changed the region type to "PL/SQL Function(returning SQL Query)" there is no longer the option to add sorting to the columns as I have had to change the Source option to "Use Generic Column Names (parse query at runtime only)"
    I will have a scout around and see how I can get around this

  • Cannot get Universe column in the sql server ?

    Hi,
    I able to get some of columns using below query , but I cannot get some of the columns from universe to SQL Server.
    If I try through SSIS also the columns are missing which are unable to get using openquery.
    If I add "Microsoft ODBC Data Source (ODBC)" for Universe U2 also then some of the columns are missing .
    For Example : Unable to get "Description" Column.
    How can I check what is the problem  ? Please help me on this..
    select * FROM OPENQUERY(ulive, 'select Description
    FROM TABLENAME WHERE Z_ID=''020324.doc''')
    Msg 7321, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
    An error occurred while preparing the query for execution against OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "ulive".
    Thank you..

    What is Universe U2  server? Is it SQL Server or Oracle or perhaps MySQL?
    select Description FROM ULIVE.DBNAME.DBO.TABLENAME WHERE Z_ID='020324.doc'

  • Problem in EOImpl.doDML() ,with Identity column in MS SQL server.

    Hello,
    I'm using JDeveloper 11.1.1.4.0
    My application is working with MS SQL Server.
    One of the tables in the database has its PK as Identity column.
    EO is created with the corresponding attribute as Primary Key.
    Upon calling doDML() in EOImpl, it generates an insert statement and attempts to insert in the PK field as well. MS SQL does not allow insertion in PK field and throws exception.
    I tried setting some configuration on EO PK attribute, but in vein. Also there is no other 'unique' column in table that can be setup as PK in EO.
    Appreciate your suggestions.
    Regards,
    Amar

    i think better to Oracle datbase as I am afraid of that Oracle won't be able to see your problem against sql server due to sql server is not their product!

  • How to track only one column updated in SQL Server 2012?

    Is there a way to only track one specific column named Newsletter (bit format) of a table only when any record in that column has been changed from False to True?
    e.g. In SQL Serer 2012, I have a table named tblSignupHistory. so i originally set the query like this:
    ALTER TABLE tblSignupHistory
    ENABLE CHANGE_TRACKING
    WITH(TRACK_COLUMNS_UPDATED = ON)
    and in my stored procedure, if any data is changed, SQL Server will automatically send me an email notification.
    BUT i only want the notification email to be send only when this one specific column's value is changed from 0 to 1 (False to True). Any changes in other columns for the same table can be ignored.
    Thanks.

    5. Create a sql sever agent job which will execute the procedure in every 10 second.
