Speedstep-centrino in beyond doesn't work

Hi, I have Arch running on an inspiron 9400 with a core duo. If I boot into the normal arch kernel, cpu scaling works fine. But, in beyond it keeps saying:
FATAL: Error inserting speedstep_centrino (location of *.ko file): No such device
when I try to modprobe it. acpi-cpufreq does the same thing.
I'm not sure how to get more verbose output, but the device does exist as scaling works in the non-beyond Arch kernel, in ubuntu, in suse, and in windows.
Any help would be appreciated.

I've tried acpi-cpufreq and it does the same thing.
Also (it might be related) networkmanager from aur can't find any network devices while in the beyond kernel. This all works in the regular kernel though. Normally, I would be just fine using the regular kernel, but beyond supports the suspend to disk and the suspend to ram where I can't seem to get either working in the regular kernel.
I originally had the speedstep-centrino in the modules array and that's where I discovered the problem. Both speedstep-centrino and speedstep_centrino have the same problem. If there are others that have this working though, maybe I could just try and reinstall arch again and see if I have the problem again.
LB06: your problem is different, I'm getting a No such device error while you are getting a device busy error. n3rlynx might be right about your problem.
Thanks for the replies.

  • HDMI doesn't work, but MDP- DVI- HDMI works

    Hello!
I just got my new Mac Mini and tried to connect it to my TV (a Samsung LE22S8) over HDMI, but this doesn't work since the TV reports "unsupported resolution" (it's the TV's native resolution of 1680x1050, where I also checked all frequencies using an external program and they are as written in the manual of the TV).
However when I connect the TV over a Mini Display Port to DVI adapter, and then use a DVI to HDMI adapter (so that the TV is still using the HDMI input) it works fine.
So what's the difference between MDP->DVI->HDMI and HDMI->HDMI (all resolution and pixel frequency settings are identical)? What can I do to get the HDMI->HDMI solution working?

It also appears that there is no conversion when HDMI-video is extracted from DVI, only that the pins are shuffled.
If direct DVI works on that port, then HDMI-video with an adapter should work as well. As I mentioned above, VGA is present on DVI-I ports on a separate set of pins, and VGA working or VGA not working has no bearing on your problem.
If a Mini DisplayPort is involved, the most common issue is that the Mini DisplayPort connector is not inserted firmly enough. It has a lot of pins and you have to press hard to seat it.
Other possibilities are that the resolution you selected is beyond the capability of the display device, or that the adapter is bad.
Is this the stock display card, or one you added later, and what model?

  • Livid with Apple - It just doesn't work. EVER

    Hi Guys,
As the title suggests I am beyond aggrevated with Apple. But in the interest of healthy blood pressure and actually solving the problem; I will now continue with the problem at hand.
I have through the years provided support for clients who own Apples, and I have through many years of frustration (due to illogical, broken and unnecessary Apple software functions) and oh so many forum visits solved their problems to their satisfaction.
This one takes the cake however.
My client recently broke the glass of his iPad (64Gig) and is now unable to navigate around. He did however buy an ipad mini(16Gig) for his son afterwards and now wants all the kiddie apps loaded onto his sons. I proposed that we perform a backup of his iPad in iTunes and then just restore to the iPad mini as some of his apps was bought in Mauritius and are nor available here for purchase.
    First problem:
We can't restore the backup (45gig of which 30 gigs are pictures) because the iPad mini has too little space. No problem (or so I thought), let's just delete his photos after I manually backed them up. It turns out we cant delete the photos on his iPad (syncing doesnt work, nor can we manually remove them) because iTunes (he is running 10.6.8 and cannot upgrade further) doesn't provide the function of deleting things, and like I just said the syncing doesn't work. This after trying EVERY solution and workaround presented in the forums.
    Second Problem:
This would all have been easily solved if we could just do a memory upgrade on the mini. But Apple has seen fit to force their clients to go out and buy BRAND NEW iPad's if they want a small ram upgrade.
    Third problem:
I tried the syncing seperately via iPhoto and guess what? After about 4 hours of waiting around for it to syncronize it did Jack Diddly Squat.
Can anyone that maybe has had the same problem provide a solution?
For those PR agents out there who actually care, just make things simple. People WANT simple. I'm done with punting your low quality products though.

you can import ALL those photos into iphoto. Then EXPORT them to a large capacity hard drive. Then sort through the photos and sync em to the other ipad.
When you export movies then make sure you choose ORIGINAL not JPEG.

  • ITunes 9.2.1.5 for Windows: Sharing / Home Sharing doesn't work

I have a windows XP laptop and sometime within the last two months (after upgrading to 9.x??) sharing and home sharing stopped working.
I have read the troubleshooting post, and everything is configured correctly. It doesn't work at home OR at work (although MAC users at work are having no problems).
Can anyone confirm that this is a BUG in 9.2? Does anyone have any fixes? As I said, my ports are open. Of note: my iPhone remote app works on my home network with our Mac, but not the PC, indicating that the problem isn't the router. I did delete exceptions for iTunes, Bonjour, and ports 3689 TCP, 5353 UDP (which, curiously, allowed my remote to work with my PC itunes, but the remote does NOT show up in the sidebar.
I think this is a bug, beyond the software firewall issues.
Any help anyone can give me will be met with plaudits and wreaths of laurels.
    Thanks

  • CFMX 7 CFFORM Validation doesn't work in 7.0.1

We have code that's been running under CF5 and CF6.1 just
fine, but when we moved it to CF7 all of the cfform validation
stopped working (standard cfform w/ no additional custom
javascript, just cfinput tags w/ required attributes). We updated
the server to the newest version, and even applied the cumulative
hotfix .jar file, but to no avail. Seems to be some consensus out
there that there's a bug in version 7.0.1 where the path to the
cfform.js file (/cfide/scripts/cfform.js) is not being translated
properly so that the browser can find that .js include. I found a
workaround, but I had to create a virtual directory "cfide" (that
points to the actual cfide directory in the webroot) in IIS so that
the mappings would work properly. This isn't terribly secure and is
kind of a silly workaround to have to do when it worked perfectly
under the other versions of CF and the /CFIDE mapping is in place
in the CF Administrator. Anyone else having this issue, and beyond
that, know if macromedia/adobe has (or is working on) a fix for
    this?
    Thanks in advance.

That could be also, but in our case, we're not even using
custom JavaScript. We're just using the internal cf form
    validation:
    Example:
    <cfform action="default.cfm" method="post">
    <cfinput name="firstname" type="text" required="yes"
    message="enter your name">
    <input type="submit" value="submit" name="submit">
    </cfform>
And, unless we create an IIS virtual directory mapping to the
CFIDE folder, even though it's in the CF Administrator mappings,
the validation doesn't work, even though it did in previous CF
    versions.
    Thanks for the idea, though.

  • IOS 5.1 Update, Home Button Doesn't Work.

Ever since I installed the iOS 5.1 update on my iPhone 4, the home button does not work at all! I've tried every trouble shooting solution I could find. I've Restarted, I can't hard reset because the home button doesn't work, I've restored from back up, I've restored as new, I've vacuumed out and gently used a tooth brush in the port below the home button in attempt to remove any dust. I've tried opening a factory installed app such as Maps, Safari, Stocks etc and held the top button until the "Slide to power off" showed and then held down the home button until it went to home screen except it didn't go to the home screen at all the "slide to power off" disappeared after a while. I have extremely intermittent response with the Home Button. If i press it continuously it will work after 27 presses one time or 9 presses another but never when I try to do a hard reset and 9.999 times out of 10 it doesn't work. I am so frustrated! I didn't get it wet and it stopped working immediately after the software update. HELP!

I talked to Apple today and was told that it's a "hardware issue" and they will not fix it. I will have to pay 169.00 to have it repaired because it is no longer covered. He told me that "the software update triggered a hardware problem" and that they haven't heard of this issue before either and this was after he went and "spoke with a senior service advisor". The thing is that if THEIR software update triggered the "hardware problem" meaning that if I hadn't updated at all my phone would be in perfect working order right now then HOW IS THAT NOT A SOFTWARE ISSUE?! I am beyond livid. I cannot continue using my phone with assistive touch, NOTHING else works and I know this isn't the first time they've heard of it because how can so many people be having this problem and Apple NOT be aware of it?!  My family has bought three MacBooks, three MacBook Pros, one iPad, two iPad 2s, seven iPhone 3s, one iPhone 3GS, five iPhone 4s, two iPhone 4S, four Apple TVs, one Time Capsule and COUNTLESS versions of iPods and have never had an issue having any of them repaired and only four of those products had to be and it was a fast and hassle free...then again they all were covered still at the time of repair...
How do you restore to a previous firmware? I don't want a new phone...I want MY phone to work...the one that worked perfectly before their update....this is beyond ridiculous...I wish apple would take a look at their own support communities and see that this ISN'T our problem...it's a problem created by THEM.

  • Brand New - Doesn't Work

Installed software, but computer doesn't recognize it, probably because the iPod seems broken. It just sits on the Language screen and none of the buttons work. I've tried turning it off and resetting, but it doesn't work. Installed the software on a friend's computer and it did the same thing (says hardware installed succesfully, but then says there's an error when reading the ipod). Beginning to think paying $300 to the company responsible for the iMac was a big idiot deal.
If you know of any way to fix it, go ahead and comment but it probably won't work. I actually would rather have tips about how I can go to my local apple store and get them to ship it back and send me, you know, one that actually works.

Since you don't appear to want our help here, why not just call the Apple 800 number and tell them what the problem is. They would usually be expected to walk you though a few troubleshooting steps to see if it can be resolved without repair, and then arrange a fix for you if it can't.
On the other hand, if you have an Apple store in your area, try taking it in and asking for a 'genius' (some are more genuis material than others) to have a look at it. Many iPod faults are resolved that way. If you take your receipt, they may even be able to organize a replacement if the fault is beyond the capacity of a genuis to fix.

  • DW 8.02 IEFix doesn't work for me

    G'day Guys,
Anyone having problems with the javascript fix for the IE
(Eolas) issue? I've been trying to update existing pages with QTVR
content on them, DW findes the code asks if I want to change it
with the new scripts etc, makes the change, creates the Script
folder and .js files in the root directory. All good.
But upload the resultant .htm file and the script folder etc,
and it doesn't work. QT is started on the page, but the actual QT
    movie can't be found.
Here is an example: (warning large fullscreen QTVR content

    www.adventurecampers.com.au/panos/fraser/01qt.htm - doesn't
    work
    www.adventurecampers.com.au/panos/fraser/02qt.htm - this is
before DW IEFix - works fine.
I imagine I'm doing something wrong, but I can't see what it
might be, with such a simple solution.
    Thanks,
    Aaron.

I swear, I hate pages that do this -
    <SCRIPT language=javascript>
    <!--
    window.resizeTo(window.screen.availWidth,window.screen.availHeight)
    window.moveTo(0,0)
    //-->
    </SCRIPT>
    Please don't.
It doesn't look to me like you have correctly applied the
    fix. Please tell
me the exact steps you have used to insert the QT and apply
    the fix.

  • Automated batch doesn't work in photoshop & from Bridge

    Hi all,
Automated batch from  Bridge  tools>photoshop>batch  Photoshop cs5 stops working. Automated batch also doesn't work in photoshop. Automated actions work in Photoshop. All other Photoshop process work  from Bridge. I use a PC with windows. This happens even with files I was  previously able to do an automated batch with Photoshop. It doesn't  matter what the file extension is. This has only recently begun  happening for no apparent reason.

First, given what you've written, it's important to ask:  48 x 48 what?  Details matter.  48 x 48 pixels?  Inches?
Beyond that, yes, I believe the Image Size dialog interacts with us a little differently than it used to.
Whether it's a positive or negative design change I can't say.  They're trying to pack a lot of functionality in there, and it might take a little getting used to...  It does seem deterministic:
If you want to keep the physical print size the same and increase the pixel density - i.e., upsample the  image - you would have to choose physical dimensions.  Try this:
    1.  Change the units to inches.
    2.  Change the ppi value and press OK.  This resamples the image.
On the other hand, if you want to keep the pixel count the same, but just change the ppi value so that it matches a particular kind of display, how would you do it?  Try this:
    1.  Change the units to pixels.
    2.  Change the ppi value and press OK.  This changes the metadata.
Are you trying to assume what leaving the units set to percent means?  To me it says "xx % of the pixel count".

  • IWeb "open new page in browser" doesn't work?

On websites I have created in iWeb, the hyperlinks to a web page will not open in a new window even though I have checked that setting in the Inspector. Previously when creating websites with html I would simply add the "blank target" code but in iWeb there is no way to edit html directly. I have tried this with Safari and with Firefox, it doesn't work!
Message was edited by: Ironic Bliss

Thanks for those helpful suggestions, though I have batted around different ways of trying to get iWeb to register the "open in new window" when checked, to no avail so far, and it doesn't work with any link, whether in text or combined with an image. Taking all these points:
I have now managed to open the html using TextWrangler but I must admit it is a little beyond me to even find the string of code in question as iWeb uses so many files. It would be better if I could just get iWeb to do the work for me as it's meant to.
Strangely, when I open the website in iWeb the first time, all the pages to the left are marked in red before I've done anything! So I cannot use that as a simple check to see if a change has been made. Also I have already tried making other changes after checking the "open in new window" box before saving.
I always publish to a folder on my HD, as I am uploading to a server that is not me.com or mac.com. (Could that be the trouble? iWeb seems to generally be very unfriendly to publishing on other servers than Apple and I have had to jump through a lot of hoops with various things.)
Could it be the weird folder hierarchy created by iWeb, where there is an index.html page outside of the main folder where all the stuff is kept? So far, I have just uploaded it to the server "as is", so the contents of the main folder (which has another index.html rather strangely placed outside it) are not at the root level on the server. The folder containing them is at the root level and so is the "external" index.html. Would it work if I uploaded only the contents of the folder to the root directory on the server, and not in the folder that iWeb creates or with its "dummy" index.html outside it?
(I think in the past this has caused trouble with Google search sitemaps, and is the reason why in the end I uploaded the whole thing and not just the contents of the main folder.)
So to be clear (not that easy here), the files on the server are:
Directory > index.html plus the folder containing all the website files. So the actual website files are at a second level in a folder, not at the root level.
The easiest example where the blank target doesn't work is on the home page of one of my websites. Scroll down and there is an image of a book which has a link to a bookstore. This should open a new page in the browser, but never does. (Annoyingly, in FireFox it even kills the back button, Safari works slightly better in that respect.)

  • Embedding fonts - doesn't work

Another day, another Flash Catalyst problem.
I check the box to embed fonts when I publish, only when I preview my output they are nowhere to be seen. Bottom line, Flash Catalyst doesn't work on a Mac. I've had nothing but problems. This program isn't ready for prime time at all. I've used betas of programs that are much more polished than this. I believed that there wasn't suppossed to be major issues when using FC with 10.7 Lion.
That's not true, this program is so broken and flawed and such a frustration to use. Adobe can't be bothered to update even though they've had access to Lion for months. If they can't make a program that works then why bother releasing for the Mac platform at all?
    Lets see:
    1. Placeholders don't work.
    2. Importing Illustrator files doesn't work.
    3. Publishing with embedded fonts doesn't work.
These aren't minor issues. They are MAJOR PROBLEMS!!! How did Flash Catalyst see the light of day on the Mac? Why was it released? Are these problems isolated to 10.7? Why aren't these MAJOR DEALBREAKERS listed? Can anyone at Adobe stand up and admit that this Flash Catalyst on the Mac is a total fiasco?

I am sorry you are having trouble. I'm not running Lion on my Mac (issues with LDAP and a corporate network). With something like you are describing I would try two things before contact Adobe support. The first would be to try a fresh install. Maybe the OS upgrade wonked something. The other thing I would make sure is that my JAVA runtime is up to date. Flash Catalyst is built on Eclipse, which in turn in built on JAVA.
Beyond, that these issue are more that I can help with.

  • "Print page" doesn't work as intended when using lengthy tables. (Brother MFC 6490CW, possibly others)

I had originally thought this was a printing driver problem, but further testing indicated that this was not a problem in Internet Explorer and it was a problem in Firefox.
When printing some web pages using Mozilla Firefox, particularly those having sizable tables which would extend beyond the length of a single printed page, the remainder of the table is not printed even though the remainder of the web page itself is printed. The behavior is also noted when using Print Preview. See, for example, this web page which I created: http://alltherightwaystowrite.blogspot.com/2013/08/the-basics-capitalization.html
I inquired of other bloggers to see if they were also experiencing this issue. See, for example, the discussion I began here: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!msg/blogger/EpD6K2ezIZE/a5mPu8CV0HwJ
As you can see, the only response I received indicated it was not an issue for that person with a different printer. This leads me to believe the problem is with either the MFC6490CW printer (unlikely) or the MFC6490CW printer driver (more likely) or perhaps with Firefox, or some combination of those three. This problem is duplicatable by me on successive attempts to print with any web page with a table extending beyond the length of a single page of printed paper. The output error occurs whether printing in portrait or landscape mode.
Saving a web page as "Web Page Complete" and opening up the web page in Microsoft Word created a variety of formatting errors, but otherwise, the entire contents of the page would have printed. Of course, this is not an ideal solution in any event. The entire document should print seamlessly across multiple pages without losing any data or content in the process.
As indicated above, as an additional test, I attempted to print the same web page in Internet Explorer and did not note the output errors described here. The web page printed correctly under those conditions. As a result, I believe that the most likely culprit is Firefox since Internet Explorer was also a good test case for my printer and printer driver, and it passed that test case.

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=521204 - this is a META Bug which is tracking all the Bugs which are related to '''Wrong page splitting / Missing page content when printing''' - 34 different Bugs, 14 of which are marked as solved.
IMO, that page would be better served with a print css script ''(as jscher2000 mentioned earlier)'' to make that a "printer ready" page, if wanting that page to be "printable" is your intention. As it now is that page is shrunk by about 50% with the "Shrink to Fit" feature engaged. Look at that page in Print Preview when the Scale is set to 100% instead of Shrink to Fit, and see that the page is so large that it shows that about 1/2 the width. Then decrease the zoom level in Print Preview to 50 or 60% to get that page to fit horizontally with the "Shrink to Fit" feature disabled. Looks like a case of "garbage in - garbage out".
I think the css used for that page uses too large a font which ''(IMO)'' forces Firefox to shrink the font too much to make that page fit to a letter size sheet of paper. And relying first upon the Print to Fit feature in the four different major browser engines ''(Gecko, Trident, WebKit, and Presto)'' and then the hundreds of print drivers out there is just looking for failures such as you are seeing; it works for some viewers and doesn't work for other viewers. What appears on the '''"screen"''' doesn't always translate to the '''"printed page'''" too well without proper instructions via style sheets, especially since "screens" are oriented horizontally and most "printed" pages are vertically oriented unless the user shifts to the Portrait view.

  • In VI Logger, Beginning Of Data button doesn't work when viewing graphs

This button doesn't work correctly when I view logged data. Instead of jumping to the beginning, it jumps to beyond the end of the data. The other 3 buttons work fine (scroll forward and backward and go to end of data).

In order to provide a better answer, it would help if you could post the version of VI Logger you have (if you are not sure, you can find this out in Measurement & Automation Explorer under the Software folder) as well as the operating system you are using.
I am running VI Logger v1.1 on a Windows XP machine and the four buttons all work properly when viewing the graph of logged data. There is a known issue where the behavior you saw, with the "Beginning of Data" button not working, has appeared on a system that runs a German OS. If you are running a comparable OS then this behavior might occur and there is currently no fix for it.
